As far as the sweating though, can't speak for him but I really do work hard before, during and after an event. I usually have at least 40 to 50 hours into a event before the day of an event. There is much more that I do than stand there and push buttons!

That's ridiculous! I am a DJ. Granted, a DJ that loves Classic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal but still... that song gets played on a regular basis whether it's a rock event or not. If I could manage to get enough events playing all Hard Rock/Metal I would quit playing all the other genres all together. Check out my page(s) if you get the time. My regular DJ page is http://www.facebook.com/allaroundsound my page that I created for my favorite music is http://www.facebook.com/classichardrockandmetal

Dude... that is funny stuff. Your right, at least this DJ didn't have a "fuss" over a Poison song. Plus, "Unskinny Bop"... ROCKS. It's almost like being given Metal redemption... knowing there was a wedding that had a "requested" Poison song honored by the DJ.

Cool story. ;)

Today I went to ym first wedding and the DJ seemed to like R&B but I kindly asked him to play Unskinny Bop by Poison and he actually played it (after waiting a while for him to drag it out though). The only thing is that he tried to quiet the word hell when Bret says "What the hell is going on" he actually just made it sound odd because he turned the volume down fast but not all the way so everyone heard the word still and the volume change but he changed it back quick after he did that, at least he didn't give a fuss about that song. Anyways I just thought about this post when I requested the song.

That is a cool idea... only the "professional" DJ's have the equipment. It would be great if it's a relative you hire as the wedding DJ... then again, who knows? I would have to say there are fine wedding DJ's out there... has to be? By process of elimination?

At my very own wedding... the DJ we hired was another rude dude too. It's like a whole other story in and of itself. This DJ... he accused me of being "out of line" because I asked for a cold beer when my wife and I arrived at the reception hall. It's totally true and bizarre. Here I was, the "actual" groom... and all I wanted was my "first" cold beer after becoming a married man and the dork DJ we hired treated me like his 10 year old son. Whoa that story gives me the chills to this day.

I haven't been to a wedding in America at all and I live in America, but this guy sound out plain rude. I know the DJ for a wedding my parents went to was one of the guys that used to work for KROQ in the eighties, but I really don't know except school DJs which only play modern day crap, there really isn't much that hasn't been said, except maybe make your own playlist for a wedding and play it yourself, that always works better and it is free.

To answer your last line... RIGHT? I was surrounded by too many relatives and friends to lower myself to this guy's immature level. Telling him off was not an option in real time. Besides, it felt almost as if he was "baiting me" to do so... he definitely has anger management issues as well for he was extremely rude to the wedding photographer too.

Blatantly and "out in the open" rude to this wedding photographer he was. The sad fact is that the wedding photographer was a true professional and did what I did... he just ignored the comments and actions of this jerk DJ. Walking away from a jerk is the best defense.

Good Ol' "plastic" Hollywood always makes the wedding DJ out to be a "stud" or "super-cool" dude that everyone wants to hang with or know. NOT this wedding DJ that I encountered!!

It did feel good to get this off my chest though... and bring to light the immaturity of another person that I had the misfortune to come into contact with. :(

DJ's Stone, you either love 'em, or hate 'em, and for the record, I'm firmly in the latter camp! I have always subscribed to the view that they are frustrated musicians (they want the fame, but don't have the talent) -sadly nowadays technology means some of these life-forms actually have BECOME famous. Scary. All they have to do is put a needle on a record or press a bloody button. They are not there to make snap moral judgements. A band has an excuse for not playing "Nothing but a good time" - they may not know it, or be that kind of band - but a DJ should know it, and based on the very title of the song, you'd think any DECENT DJ would have it in their collection because events they attend should be about having a GOOD TIME, and it might you know, actually be RELEVANT. Duh. Let's hope your cousin and his bride have a long and happy marriage, so they never have to book another one!

I'd like to end on a small humurous aside:

Q: What do you call a hundred Wedding DJ's at the bottom of the ocean?
A: A good start.

I've actually never been to a wedding nor a funeral ceremony in America...only in Japan.

So, even though I am an American, all I know about those ceremonies in America comes from Hollywood movies.

Weddings and funerals in Japan are quite different than in America. I couldn't imagine a situation like this happening in Japan.
