Super Bowl XLV – My “Dream Metal” Halftime Show I’d Like To Share
SUPER BOWL XLV – Regardless of the performers who have been chosen for this years Super Bowl XLV, I have my own “Dream Metal Halftime Show” I’d like to share with the world. Some may disagree with the performers I have chosen, while others will raise the horns to the air and be pleased. Whichever is the case, this is about “personal” choice. Personal Metal choice, that is.
I’d love to see Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey up on that stage… ripping out Killed By Death. Then, it would be so righteous to see and hear Lemmy state to millions of fans worldwide, via live simulcast: “We’re Motörhead and we’re a Rock ‘N’ Roll Band”.
Just to see and hear Klaus Meine belting out: “big city, big city nights!” on that Super Bowl stage would be a Metal moment to remember… especially since the Scorpions are currently in the midst of their three year farewell tour.
Oh, man, would it be a Metal treat to witness Rob Halford as he stalks the Super Bowl stage… singing with Classic Metal defiance: “some heads are gonna roll!” The vision of K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton side by side, trading off guitar licks would be a Metal sight to behold. A Metal Super Bowl XLV sight to behold, that is. What a tremendous way for Judas Priest to kick off their 2011 farewell tour… the Metal thought of it all is fun stuff.
As a last thought to my “Dream Metal” Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show, I would be psyched out of my Metal mind, to see and hear Hank Williams Jr. bellow out: “are you ready for some Metal!”
It’s just too bad that I, along with other Metalheads that span generations, will have to watch mainstream Pop performing at Super Bowl XLV instead.

I would prefer AC/DC over Motorhead…Performing “For those about to Rock, We Salute You” Now that would be a perfect Half Time Show.

Alright… only there is “time” issues with this “Dream Metal” Halftime Show… so AC/DC gets a “Dream Metal” Super Bowl Pregame performance.

Great lineup, problem is that none of them are American. How about Billy Milano to sing the national anthem.

Bill Milano would fit right into this mix. I just picked these three bands straight from the heart… based on how I feel at this “moment” with both the Scorpions and Judas Priest saying “goodbye”. Lemmy and his “Rock ‘N’ Roll” Band has always been an example, “for me”, of longevity, quality and perseverance within the world of Heavy Metal, without ever cow-towing to the establishment or “the man” if you will.
The Super Bowl Halftime Show has had The Who, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins and Sting to Aerosmith, Kid Rock and Shania Twain in the past. Plus, with the Super Bowl being a “tele-casted” worldwide phenomenon that it is, going international with the bands “shouldn’t” cause a ruckus.

You make very good points and shame on me for worrying about what a few rednecks might think. These bands would make for great halftime entertainment. What would be even better if they were to play at my dream Super Bowl which would be an all Pennsylvania battle between the Eagles and Steelers. Green Bay ended the dream for me this year. If they couldn’t get Billy Milano, there is always Dee Snider and why not Alice Cooper to perform. He has been a mainstay for 40 years now.

It’s all good 80′s Metal Man. The Super Bowl has actually “fallen” right on my birthday too, they are Super Bowls: XX, XXVI, XXXI and XXXVII. Now, the Super Bowl lands in the first week of February. We can thank the “media blitz” for that. The days leading up to the Super Bowl = big time $$$ for advertising and “special events” in the host Super Bowl city.
I’m a life long Giants fan… and when they won their “first” Super Bowl back in 1987, (XX1 vs. Broncos), it happened on January 25, one day before my birthday. That was a very cool present the G-Men gave me!

Didn’t KI↯↯ perform the “halftime show” for the SuperBowl a few years ago…with the football cheerleaders wearing KI↯↯ make-up?

KISS did perform for a “pregame show” and not the halftime show… for Super Bowl XXXIII back in 1999. The Denver Broncos defeated the Atlanta Falcons – 34 to 19. You have a fine Metal memory!
I was born on January 26, 1966. I turned “one” years of age on January 26, 1967 (naturally). The first Superbowl was played on January 15, 1967. So, I am the same age as the biggest NFL Football Game in all the land!
Maybe… some day… there just “might” be a Super Bowl Halftime Show “Presented By Metal Odyssey!”
Um, once again, I guess that’s a “Metal Dream” too.

All great choice and NFL does not care if they are American artist or not witnessed by The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Paul McCartney all playing at the Half Time shows, all great acts IMO.

Great lineup, if it were me, I would choose the david Lee Roth era Van Halen with Dave jumping aorund stage, then Iron Maiden with crowd chanting during the portion in Heaven Can Wait, and then Metallica with the backbeat to for Whom the Bell Tolls going “Hey, hey, hey, hey…” like in many of their live performances, make it iwth Jason Newsted because he does all the commentary like “keep it going strong” for the chanting and his background vocals fit the songs well like in creeping death.

Yeah, those three iconic bands would work! You put some Metal thought into just how it would look and sound it appears… cool.
The more I think about all of this, the more I realize that Heavy Metal has really gotten the “shaft” from whoever has been “in charge” of the Super Bowl Halftime shows over the years.
I’ll tell you one thing… David Lee Roth “owned” the live stage back in those memorable 80′s!

I know I’m not into the hair/glam/80s metal of the majority of the fans of this site are, but my dream team would be Clutch, Dream Theater, Uriah Heep (playing the Demons & Wizards album), and Iron Maiden. Pink Floyd almost made it, but I don’t see them being ‘rock’ enough for an event such as the Super Bowl
Plus when the Packers take it this year, I want some pump up music for our victory

Pink Floyd isn’t that bad of an idea. If it were up to me, I’d have them play “Dark Side Of The Moon” in it’s entirety, immediate following all the post-game celebration… right there in the middle of the field. It would be a cool way to “chill-out” after all the hoopla.
It’s strange, Pink Floyd has always psyched-me-out in a “chilled-out” sort of way. David Gilmour’s solo/debut album from 1978 is a CD that I refuse to take out of my home CD disc player. Honestly, I leave it on that rotary disc platen for good. I listen to this Gilmour CD at will and it serves me right.

Yea, I’m more of a ‘The Wall’ fan, not that ‘Dark Side of The Moon’ isn’t excellent. ‘The Wall’ is one of my top 5 favorite albums ever.
