RUSS DWARF – The legendary Russ Dwarf, (most famous as the frontman/founding member of Killer Dwarfs) has taken me on an acoustic Rock journey; one that is so memorable, it’s like being given a prize! The prize is Wireless and it’s the new Acoustic Rock album that Russ Dwarf has released, filled with songs from his Killer Dwarfs catalog and featuring some of the finest musicians in the industry today. (See musicians listed at end of post).

I am now convinced that Russ Dwarf has become equally famous as a solo artist; now that he’s excelling in such quality musical fashion during his post-Killer Dwarfs era. Transforming Heavy Rock songs into acoustic versions of themselves can be a risky move for any famous name within said genre; Tesla, Mr. Big, Nirvana and Foreigner (to name a few) have all succeeded with an unplugged stopover and Russ Dwarf can be rightfully added to that grand list, in my respectful opinion.

On Wireless, the vocals of Russ Dwarf are as engaging as they’ve ever been, with his immediately identifiable voice reminding me of an era when Heavy Metal was loud, proud and unequivocally colorful. With that said, the atmosphere of Wireless is upbeat and gives way to a feel-good listening experience. Wireless and its ten songs comes across as such a natural progression of acoustic gladness, that it’s undeniably refreshing to even my Extreme Metal soul.

Once I listened to the album opener Keep The Spirit Alive, the realization had set in that Russ Dwarf hasn’t lost a micro step as a veritable Rock star; he has brought his Rockin’ past into the present with a confidence that I both hear and feel. Wireless isn’t the acoustic Rock album to wind the party down to; it’s actually just the opposite! The animated vocals of Russ Dwarf, coupled with the vibrant acoustic tones that blankets Wireless, makes this album one of the foremost of its kind that I’ve listened to in years.

Los Angeles, CA – Purple Pyramid Records will be releasing a vintage live recording of legendary classic rock band Captain Beyond ‘Live in Texas October 6, 1973′ on May 21, 2013 on CD & Double-LP. One of the most underrated Classic Rock bands of the early 1970′s, Captain Beyond were considered a ‘supergroup’ of sorts at the time and featured original Deep Purple lead vocalist Rod Evans, former Iron Butterfly guitarist Larry ‘Rhino’ Reinhardt and bassist Lee Dorman, and ex-Johnny Winter drummer Bobby Caldwell.

Although the band only lasted three critically acclaimed albums and several tours of the US and Europe, the band’s following is as strong today as it was back in their heyday! Now with the release of this rare sought after concert recording on CD and vinyl for the first time, fans can relive the magic that was Captain Beyond in concert! Recorded just after the release of the group’s second album ‘Sufficiently Breathless’, Captain Beyond ‘Live In Texas’ captured the band while on tour with King Crimson.

BLACK STAR RIDERS, the new band featuring THIN LIZZY members Ricky Warwick, Damon Johnson, Scott Gorham and Marco Mendoza together with drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper / Megadeth), have announced All Hell Breaks Loose as the title of their debut album on Nuclear Blast Entertainment, which will be released in the UK on the 27th May 2013.

The artwork features a painting by Gil Elvgren (March 15, 1914 – February 29, 1980), the legendary US painter best known for his work on pin-up girls, advertising and illustration:

The artworks ties directly to the origins of the album title. Ricky Warwick explains “I was watching a documentary about World War II bombers and saw the name painted on the side of one of the aircraft. The name just resonated with me and it seemed to encapsulate the turmoil that we, as a society, are currently experiencing. The past few years have been such a wild ride and now with the release of the album, it sounded like a bad-ass album title that summed up what BLACK STAR RIDERS is all about.”

Bound For Glory, the debut single from the album, saw its exclusive first play on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 radio show on Thursday 21st March 2013. The song is now available to hear HERE!

SLAUGHTER REVOLUTION – STONE’S METAL PICK OF THE DAY!

SLAUGHTER  REVOLUTION – This fourth studio album from Slaughter, Revolution, may not bestow that same 90′s Arena-style Heavy Rock which skyrocketed this band up the charts; still this is a Slaughter album that deserves to be revisited for its Psychedelic backdrop meets late 90′s Hard Rock. Truthfully, the album cover is much more Psychedelic than the songs! Back when Post-Grunge was heating up the airwaves and Heavy Metal was not getting anymore love from the media, for me, Slaughter honestly released a very memorable album with Revolution back in 1997.

The vocals of Mark Slaughter are toned down here and there on Revolution, yet Tongue n’ Groove is a song that Mark Slaughter nails with excitement! Believe me, Mark Slaughter has his classic moments, vocally, on this album. There’s something about  the ambiance of it all, some special Slaughter potion was added here that makes this album still Rock like crazy for me. The album opener American Pie makes me feel like it’s 1970; only in a good way. This American Pie song has all the retro/Psychedelic flavor one could ask for and it seriously sucks me right in.

The (legendary) Joe Walsh gem from 1973, Rocky Mountain Way, is covered here by Slaughter and it sounds exceptionally groovy. Metal as my witness, Slaughter made this song their own… still, the original can never be topped. From beginning to end, Revolution is worthy of listening to in its entirety. I truly don’t want to skip a song on Revolution, each time I listen to it. A sad fact about Revolution is it’s the last time guitarist Tim Kelly would shine on a Slaughter studio album. Tim Kelly had passed away in an automobile accident the following year of 1998.

I’ve seen Revolution for sale on Amazon.com as an import CD, along with the MP3 album. If you’re looking to get your ears into a 90′s Hard Rock album without all the bells and whistles featuring the flavor-of-the-month from that era, then Revolution from Slaughter just might do the Rockin’ trick. By the way, my media version of Revolution is on cassette and it sounds grand while I’m driving my 2000 Ford Taurus. Metal be thy name.

IAN DANTER – Former Dressed To Kill Member, KISS Tribute Drummer, Releases Debut Hard Rock CD ‘Prove You Wrong’

London, UK – Muli-instrumentalist and former drummer with the longest running KISS tribute act Dressed To Kill, Ian Danter has released his debut hard rock CD ‘Prove You Wrong’ on Cherry Red Records. Ian Danter, a well-respected musician in his own right,can proficiently play several instruments, which he displays  on his new CD. Ian plays drums, guitars, bass, keyboards and sings background vocals and lead on the three tracks. Lee Small, lead vocalist from the UK hard rock outfit SHY, lends his powerful Dio-esque vocals to 12 of the 15 tracks on the CD. Upon first listening to ‘Prove You Wrong’ classic rock artists like Rainbow and Dio immediately spring to mind. Ian explains, “I loved the music I grew up on because it made me stop and listen. It also made me appreciate good melody and how to construct a song. That is what ‘Prove You Wrong’ set out to do – to recreate the era of the song, the riff, the FEEL rather than following a trend.”

Some say sports and Rock and Roll don’t mix.. yet in the case of Ian Danter, this notion has been proven wrong. As well as his fame in the music industry, Ian is also known for his highly successful and fanatical fan-supported Saturday evening show ‘Football First’ on talkSPORT Radio, as well as presenting both local and national radio programmes in a wide variety of formats for well over a decade. Some may find it peculiar that a renowned sportscaster with an immense fan following would be able to deliver a hard rocking, well written and produced album, yet the CD title says it all. Ian explains, “As for the title, ‘Prove You Wrong’…well that is all about my desire to show that sports broadcasting and rock music are not mutually exclusive career choices! You can be credible as both, despite conventional wisdom, and I want to ‘prove’ that with this album.”

Because of Ian’s fame and work schedule as sports presenter, recording his new CD was not something that happened overnight. Says Ian, “I’ve been meaning to record my original stuff for over a decade now. The spark to actually get me into the studio was a little unfortunate – a couple of local musicians and friends passed away recently, including SHY guitarist/songwriter Steve Harris. At Steve’s funeral, I started talking to a producer friend and the subject came around to my stuff… Steve had been able to complete recording SHY’s best album just before his passing, and it suddenly occurred to me that I had to record my songs as soon as I could…you never know what the future might bring, after all.”

Ian’s musical influences can be heard loud and clear on his new CD, in particular his earliest musical loves Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy and Rainbow. Ian recalls, “My older brothers owned ‘Machine Head’ by Deep Purple, ‘Live & Dangerous’ by Thin Lizzy and ‘Rising’ by Rainbow. Rainbow and Ronnie Dio’s voice were a huge influence on me. ‘Rising’ especially really captivated me…the riffs, the vocals, the sheer scale of it all just blew me away. Then one day at my cousin’s place I saw a couple of KISS albums in his collection and asked to borrow one – that was ‘Alive!’ and it was a total life-changer and had a profound effect on me. Before long I was buying everything I could find in their back catalogue – which wasn’t an easy task in 1970′s England! I’ve remained a staunch foot soldier in the KISS Army ever since.” Ian played drums with the longest running KISS tribute band Dressed To Kill for 5 years. Other musical influences include Dio, Rush, Foo Fighters, Wildhearts, Cheap Trick, Jellyfish, Pantera, Journey and Aerosmith, to name a few.

In closing, Ian has this to impart to his fans and listeners, “I hope you get as much out of listening to these songs as I did putting them together. It was a real labor of love… and hard work should always pay off!”

Ian Danter’s CD release party will be held on Friday March 22, 2013 at Birmingham City FC’s Jasper Carrott Suite.

EUROPE “Always The Pretenders” – This CD Single From 2006 I Won In A Magazine Contest!

EUROPE – ALWAYS THE PRETENDERS CD SINGLE

It was sometime back in 2006 and I saw a contest ad in Revolver Magazine; with the prize being a CD single of Always The Pretenders by EUROPE. I forget what the actual questions(s) I had to answer were, to win this CD single. I believe the contest was run by Sanctuary (Records), then again my memory is vague on it. I guess that stuff doesn’t really matter anymore!

All I do know: I still own this CD single (that I won) and I recently stumbled upon it while rummaging through some CD’s I haven’t listened to in years. This (lead) single Always The Pretenders was used to promote the seventh EUROPE studio album released back in 2006: Secret Society (Sanctuary). This CD single was released via T&T / Sanctuary.

The song Always The Pretenders and album Secret Society is not the Glam/Arena/Hair Metal version of EUROPE from the 80′s; instead, this is a much more Modern and Hard Rockin’ version of the latter. Honestly, the sound that EUROPE tapped into back in 2004 with Start From The Dark married well with their sound on Secret Society from 2006. Relevancy is key here, my Metal brethren.

What makes this CD single extra cool is there are 4 songs on it. Here’s the track listing: Always The Pretenders (Radio Edit), 2. Always The Pretenders (Album Version), 3. Flames (Live) and 4. Superstitious (Live). The 2 live songs were previously unreleased. Both live songs were recorded at B.B. King in New York.

Superstitious originally appeared on Out Of This World; the fourth studio album from EUROPE released back in 1988. Flames originally appeared on Start From The Dark; the sixth studio album from EUROPE, released back in 2004. Both live songs are solid listens from EUROPE, with some top-tier sound quality happening.

I surely recommend this CD single from EUROPE to all Classic Rock and 80′s Hard Rock/Arena Rock fans. As for this EUROPE CD single being a collectible one day, who knows? I’ve seen this CD single selling between $4 and $10 (U.S.) around the internet, both used and new.

EUROPE released their fourth studio album, Out Of This World, back in August of 1988. My favorite song from this album is the opening track: Superstitious. This is just one fine, memorable and inspiring (uptempo) late 80′s ballad from Europe. I still own the cassette version of Out Of This World and I’m not selling it. It has nothing to do with my being superstitious either. Metal be thy name.

Sweden’s chart-topping, multi-million unit selling band spanned the Glam/Hair, Arena Rock, Hard Rock and 80′s Heavy Metal genres with their Heavy Melodic Rock sound; embedded with powerfully driven guitars along with a dynamic rhythm section and keyboards to match. The vocals of Joey Tempest are laced with Heavy Rock eloquence, coupled with his confidence and unique harmony.

EUROPE still kicks Heavy Rock ass to this very day. Ring that EUROPE bell and tell all the villagers to gather around, cause the song Superstitious has a brilliantly contagious sound!

TREAT – Melodic Rock Legends Celebrating Their 30th Anniversary In 2013; Special Edition Album Package, Tour, Festival And Goodbye News Announced

Swedish Melodic Rock legends Treat are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2013 and announce some mouth-watering news for all their fans. Treat will release a special 30th anniversary edition package, containing a best of-album with two brand new songs and two previously unreleased songs, and their latest album “Coup de Grace”, regarded as a “masterpiece” by Classic Rock Magazine and voted “Melodic rock album of the year 2010” with an extra track.

Treat also plans a big tour, that will kick off with some major festival gigs in  the summer, and will see them rockin´on the road in to the autumn. Then it´s over. For good.

”We have a saying in Sweden: You should always leave the party when you have the most fun”, says guitarist and songwriter Anders Wikström who formed the band back in 1983 together with singer Robert Ernlund. Say what? Treat is breaking up!  Treat has never been a more tight-knit Rock’n’Roll unit than now, and the band is brimming with creativity and excitement. That´s why the band now chooses to call it a day; they want to, as they put it, ”end on a high note”.

”We´re doin’ it out of love and respect for our fans”, Anders Wikström says. ”We quit before they ask us to get the hell out. We want Treat´s legacy  to be pure Rock´n´Roll happiness!”

The decision to close down operation is most amicable, and kind of grew upon the five in the band, but when the decision was made, the band almost immediately started making plans for the farewell party next year.

”We´re going out with a bang and will give our fans a ride they didn´t even knew they wanted.”, says Anders Wikström.

Treat, who released their classic debut album ”Scratch and Bite” back in 1985, now also introduces the new bass player Fredrik Thomander, who’s for years been close to The Band Of Brothers that Treat are: Fredrik has been co-writing songs with the band, mixed ”Coup de Grace” and has already done some gigs as a Treat Brother.

Anders Wikström (guitar and vocals), Robert Ernlund (lead vocals), Jamie Borger (drums), Patrick Appelgren (keyboards and vocals) and Fredrik Thomander (bass and vocals) take Sweden on a turbo charged Rock´n´Roll journey in 2013. There’s many ways to say goodbye.

”We wanna party with our fans”, says Robert Ernlund and adds: “The Treat’s on us”!

MOTHERSHIP – BIO:

Rock n’ Roll history is rife with brothers working together to create their artistic vision. But rarely do we hear about a full-fledged family unit embarking down the treacherous path of a musical career. In the case of Texas-based Mothership, the Brother Juett (Kyle on bass, younger brother Kelley on guitar) enlisted the aid of their father, John Juett, to help get the ‘ship off the ground. Raised on a healthy dose of their father’s 70′s-era record collection, the brothers began crafting songs fueled on the raucous and raw good time vibe when music seemed to know no bounds.

Lifting off the pad for the first time in 2010, the band began to gain momentum and notoriety with their unabashed live shows. Knowing that the service of the family patriarch was temporary, Father Juett actively helped his boys find his replacement, and in late 2011, enter the mighty Judge Smith to hammer away on the skins.

In early 2012, Mothership entered Crystal Clear Studios with Wo Fat mastermind Kent Stump manning the boards and by mid-year, the band self-released their debut album. It was the combination of the 70′s-era heavy rock fuzz and fury mixed with the blistering guitar solos of the NWOBHM-era that drew the bands attention to California-based Heavy Rock label, Ripple Music. In the waning months of 2012, after a successful year of traveling regionally throughout Texas and opening for national acts such as Prong, Red Fang, Gypsyhawk, Earthen Grave, and Lo-Pan, Mothership officially dubbed Ripple Music as its Home Port and began plotting a course for their first U.S. Tour in early 2013.

This live album from Paul Stanley came out in 2008. I have to admit, that I’ve never been a big KISS fan. There are many of their songs that I do like, only I’ve always felt that they’re a bit over the top as a band. Anyway, a few months ago I was curious to hear how Destroyer (Resurrected) was going to sound. When I typed KISS onto my iTunes account, all the KISS albums displayed and this Paul Stanley album caught my eye. I sampled a few tunes and thought it wasn’t half bad. I did a little research and discovered that this Live album is only available on iTunes or DVD. I made the purchase! Man O’ Man, does this album Rock!!! It’s a great mix of Classic KISS and solo Paul Stanley.

Money Never Sleeps came out in 2009. Just like the Paul Stanley album, I stumbled upon this Covered Call album on iTunes and gave it a sample. I really liked what I heard and bought it! When I listen to Money Never Sleeps, many of the songs remind me a lot of the good ones Bon Jovi put out in the 80’s and 90’s. My favorite songs are, Til’ the End, Nothing at All and What about Us.

Robert Johnson’s Tombstone came out in 2006. I really dig this album, it’s (kind of) a Southern Hard Rock album recorded by a band that doesn’t get enough credit here in the States. If you like the Jammin that Southern Rock offers you won’t be disappointed with the song Don’t Wanna Talk about Love, which is probably my favorite song on Robert Johnson’s Tombstone.

In my humble opinion, if you’re looking to spend a few Christmas dollars on yourself this new year, any one of these albums surely won’t disappoint!

Metal Odyssey – Stone Picks His Top 10 Hard Rock Albums Of 2012!

After I banged my METAL brains to a pulp in compiling a Top 30 Metal Albums Of 2012 list, I decided to keep the Hard Rock side of the street to a cool and tidy Top 10 Of 2012. Okay, there’s really 11 Top Hard Rock Albums Of 2012; cause there’s a tie. Couldn’t help it. My favorite METAL troll who lives deep in the Pennsylvania woods told me a couple of days ago: “No one ever said it would be easy, Stone”.

Below you will find the 10 Hard Rock Albums (all released in 2012) that I turned to most often to get psyched-out of my Hard Rockin’ mind. I truly thought this list over long and hard, while making certain the overall quality of the albums stand tall on their own respective musical merits.

In my heart, KISS will always be #1; only SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators found their way to my Rockin’ soul in 2012. That counts big time. The ultra-fabulous return of Van Halen, Trixter and Soundgarden are just 3 stories among many Hard Rock comebacks during 2012. What sensational comeback albums these 3 bands created and they’re included in my Top 10! Spider Rockets appear in my Top Ten for good reason; their Hard Rockin’ bite is infectious!

Switzerland’s The Order and N. Ireland’s Million Dollar Reload are 2 bands that released unbelievable albums this past year! Both of these bands took me by incredible Hard Rockin’ surprise! The word elite comes to my mind, whenever I listen to the new albums from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Country Communion. As for Georgia’s very own Jackyl… their new album Best Of Show is a combination of Hard Rockin’ fun and whoop-ass that I am so very thankful for.

Thank you for supporting Hard Rock and any/all bands seen or heard on Metal Odyssey this past year. I greatly appreciate your every visit and loyalty. I also want to thank each band listed below for existing. Metal be thy name.

SOUNDGARDEN – KING ANIMAL

More than just a “new” or “comeback” Soundgarden album. This is an accomplishment from Soundgarden, with lyrical brilliance and songs that are executed with unique and memorable musicianship and vocals. I can easily place King Animal atop the back catalog of Soundgarden albums and preach to the world that this band has returned in (what feels like to me) mystical fashion.

APOCALYPTIC LOVE

As I see and hear it, once an album can move you, lifting your Rockin’ soul to new heights as Apocalyptic Love has done for me, then it’s a #1 album for certain. The combination of SLASH’s guitar and Myles Kennedy’s vocals were destined to unite. It had to be! At least that’s how I feel and hear it.

The chemistry of this entire band just seems to be right on the bullseye, overflowing from every song on this exceptional album. Maybe it’s just me. Regardless, I couldn’t be more confident and psyched-out by my choice of Apocalyptic Love being my #1 Hard Rock album of 2012. Metal be thy name!

Musically, it’s anywhere from Debussy to Bjork, Chet Baker to Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley to Queen…it’s all in there, mixed up in my own unique way…” As far as the title goes, David explains, “I really love the provocative images that the word ‘Scarlet’ conjures up in my head… it’s a very passionate color, and brings to mind characters such as ‘Scarlet O’Hara’ in ‘Gone With The Wind’, ‘The Scarlet Woman’ (the goddess from the mystical system of Thelema), Scarlet Johansson (very cute!!)… and also the Sir Conan Doyle book ‘A Study In Scarlet’, which I believe is where Sherlock Holmes was first introduced. In a way the last reference seems particularly apt, as I feel like this album is my first real introduction into the world of music…”

THE ROLLING STONES “GRRR!” – I Bought This Super Cool 2CD And I’ll Tell You Much More About It…

THE ROLLING STONES – On its release date of November 13th, I happily purchased the brand new 2CD of greatest hits from The Rolling Stones titled: GRRR! at my local Target store. Here’s a funny blunder I am guilty of while making this GRRR! purchase:

Upon seeing GRRR! stocked upon the CD display at Target, the excitement overcame me; so much so that I read the sale price (incorrectly) as $9.99 (U.S.). After buying this 2CD and a few other items, I thought to myself: “gee whiz, Stone, that amount I paid was higher than I calculated in my brain.” I paused, then came to a complete stop before exiting the store. I needed to check my sales receipt and make sure I didn’t get screwed on the price of an item (which happens more often than not).

Sure enough, I read the price sticker wrong on the GRRR! 2CD. Instead of the price being $9.99 (like I thought I read it) it was $19.99 instead! Whoa! I had not a clue. I guess the good news is that I didn’t pay $19.99 for GRRR! after all. Nope. I instead paid the sale price for GRRR! which was: $16.99. That’s very, very cool. Heck, this is a “2″ CD after all and it boasts 40 classics from The Rolling Stones! Not too shabby of a Rockin’ buy and   YOLO! 

The 2 NEW songs on GRRR! are: One More Shot and Doom And Gloom. Both of these songs ROCK!!! WHOA!!! Think: Hard Rock Rolling Stones, (not) Start Me Up or Harlem Shuffle. Seriously, I am very psyched-out about these 2 new songs; they signify that The Rolling Stones can certainly dig-in-deep and continue to put out some kick-ass Classic Hard Rockin’ material!

I highly recommend GRRR! to all Rolling Stones fans and anyone that digs Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Rock and the history of Rock and Roll! Metal be thy name.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION “AFTERGLOW” – Majestic, Classic Hard Rock Still Exists… And It’s Right Here

Black Country Communion – Afterglow is the third studio album from the supergroup that should really be named: Classic Rock Champions. All kidding aside, this Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley produced album is so much more than I expected. With super legendary musicians joining forces with such a prominent producer, the first two BCC albums were magnificent in their own right; only Afterglow is by far the very best out of the three albums from this band, in my Rock infested opinion.

Glenn Hughes wrote the lyrics to every song, with Jason Bonham lending a pen on This Is Your Time and Common Man. With the writing of the music for Afterglow, it’s a collective effort from the entire band, which is broken down so nicely in the liner notes. These four musicians are undoubtedly legends and they have written and recorded a wonderful album of eleven songs.

Afterglow stands out from the first two BCC albums with its unbelievably memorable songs. These are songs that just instantly stick inside my head with their melodies, rhythm, beats and (of course) vocals. Whereas the first two albums had a song or two that may sound like (just above) average offerings, Afterglow is a listening sensation of Classic Hard Rock from beginning to end. My God, I’m tickled to death by Afterglow and I’m strongly considering it to be my top Hard Rock album of 2012… and quite possibly my favorite album across the board from this year!

The sunny skies of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple certainly shine over this album, with Big Train, Afterglow and Confessor (respectively); giving every musical indication that even legends such as BCC will give a nod to other Classic Rock sounds other than their own. Let there be no misunderstanding however, that BCC is a band as original as the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Jason Bonham doesn’t over extend on drums (and never has in his career), while Derek Sherinian follows suit on keyboards. I applaud them both for I’m so convinced that the less is more plan of attack always comes out victorious in Rock and Roll. Joe Bonamassa is such a talented guitarist it’s spooky. His lead vocals on Cry Freedom are superb and makes for an added bonus on an album filled with pure Rockin’ magic.

Lead vocals and bass are brought to you by none other than Glenn Hughes. What can I possibly write that has never been written before about this legend of Rock? Glenn Hughes is one of those vocalists walking the planet today with a captivating voice. I listen to Glenn’s vocals and lyrics on The Circle and have to pick my jaw up off the floor each time this song ends. Overall, BCC has whisked my memories back to the slower days when FM radio actually meant something to all of us; while (thankfully) reminding me that majestic Hard Rock can still be created. Metal be thy name.

KISS “MONSTER” (Some Fun & Rockin’ Thoughts From Stone, Part 1) – My Favorite Song Revealed!

KISS - Okay. Unless you’ve been living on the Moon or have been out-of-touch with humanity for the past year, there is a brand new KISS album for sale and it’s called: MONSTER. The 20th studio album from the ICONIC KISS was released this past Tuesday, on October 9th, via UMe. Yup, this new album is exactly that… an F’n MONSTER and I mean that in the most grandest way too. Metal be thy name and ring that KISS Army bell. Tell all the naysayers and posers to go to F’n hell.

You see, being a lifetime KISSaholic, how could I write an album review for MONSTER with just one post? I did write reviews in the past for other KISS albums; where I cover the album’s songs and how it sounds, feels, blah, blah, blah and F’n blah again. This time around, for MONSTER, I’m gonna do things a tad different. I’ll write about one song, about the album cover or whatever the hell I want to write about, in reference to this ABSOLUTE ROCKING KISS ALBUM. One F’n post at a time. Metal be thy KISSaholic name and tell all the naysayers… SHAME!

What’s my favorite song on MONSTER? Which song have I played over and over and over and Rock And Roll Over again? That’s easy. Here it is:

LONG WAY DOWN

I’m telling you right now, this song has CLASSIC ROCK oozing from it’s every crevice and the guitars are the HUGE giveaway here. For those who never thought KISS could make a song that would elevate them into the upper stratosphere of ROCK RELEVANCE… think again. With Long Way Down, KISS reached back into their CLASSIC HARD ROCK ROOTS and have delivered a very (un)KISS-like sound that somehow sounds like… KISS.

Paul Stanley sounds SUPERB on vocals while Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer sound simply invincible as musicians on this song. (Aw, hell, that pretty much sums up KISS on this whole album). Listen for yourself and maybe you’ll agree… that KISS MONSTER is 100% KICK-ASS KISSTORY.

Uh, oh. Stone gets a tad pissed off here:

It’s funny how all the BIG NAME mags and newspaper Rock critics all want to be a part of the KISS ARMY now that they’ve listened to MONSTER. Where were all these naysayers and posers since KISS Dynasty was released? KISS MY ASS is what I say to them all. KISS it baby. SSSMMMAAACCCKKK!

Okay, Stone is mellow again. Um, Kinda.
