SEVER THE DRAMA – I crossed Metal paths with SEVER THE DRAMA and would like to share their raging music video, Watching You, with all my fellow Metal brethren. WatchingYou is the lead single from their (2010) debut album Vested Interest. I hereby make this Metal declaration:
SEVER THE DRAMA – Watching You music video is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!
SEVER THE DRAMA calls Hartford, Connecticut home and are an unsigned Hard Rock/Metal band. This band bestows some potent Metal talent and should not fly under your Metal radar! I dig what I’m hearing from SEVER THE DRAMA; this is underground Heavy Music that must be heard and spread stateside and worldwide!
Take a listen and look below to Watching You… crank it up LOUD and remember these 3 words: SEVER THE DRAMA. Metal be thy name.
BUY THE DEBUT ALBUM, VESTED INTEREST, FROM SEVER THE DRAMA ON ITUNES!
Sever The Drama is as much a mission statement as a band name. This focused, driven four-piece from Hartford, CT delivers a dynamic Hard Rock experience. Intricate and explosive rhythms lay the foundation for solid bass, powerful guitars and melodic yet aggressive vocals.
Since 2009, Sever the Drama has been playing stages in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York – building its fan base. High powered, tight, visually arresting performances separate Sever the Drama from the rest.

SKID ROW – UNITED WORLD REBELLION (CHAPTER ONE) EP was released back on April 16th and it has absolutely kicked my Heavy Rock lovin’ ass since the first moment I cranked it up! Below are 5 reasons why YOU MUST BUY this kick ass CD and find out why it is a 100% fabulous release from these Legends of Heavy Music! Fans have waited several years for some new studio material from SKID ROW and now it’s here! Metal be thy name!
Reason # 5:Johnny Solinger. As with prior SKID ROW releases Thickskin (2003) and Revolutions Per Minute (2006), Johnny Solinger has proven himself to be one hell of a talent vocally; giving SKID ROW and their songs a badass vibe and character that I not only expect… it’s what I want!
Reason #4:ALL 5 songs kick Heavy Rockin’ ass. Hey, I’ve used the word “ass” a couple of times here already. Um, if you’re offended… kiss my Heavy Rockin’ and Metal lovin’ ass.
Reason #3: This Is Killing Me. Yes, the (power) ballad: This Is Killing Me. I am Stone. I HATE ballads, therefore, when a ballad psyches-me-out-of-my-mind I’m gonna tell the whole F’n world about it. Whoa.
Reason #2: SKID ROW could have taken the low road and not bothered to release any new music at all. Instead, SKID ROW are not about resting on their legendary Heavy Rock laurels; this is a band that obviously wants to remind fans and new fans alike: We are here to kick your Heavy Rock ass!
Reason #1: The band itself. SKID ROW. Holy shit did they compile 5 Hard Rockin’ songs that are QUALITY in BOTH music AND lyrics. I only wish United World Rebellion (Chapter One) had 10, 12 or more songs! This isn’t a SKID ROW release to ignore, my fellow Rockaholics and Metal brethren. Chapter Two can’t be released quick enough for me. Metal as my witness, this EP from SKID ROW is a MUST buy. Metal be thy name.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of KING KOBRA’s new studio album II on July 5th in Europe and July 9th in North America.
King Kobra’s long-awaited reunion album “King Kobra” (s/t) released on Frontiers Records in 2011, left no doubt that this was a band to be reckoned with. Even though nearly 25 years had passed since the original line-up recorded the landmark “Ready To Strike” and “Thrill Of A Lifetime” albums, the energy and immediacy of the bands lightning attack had not diminished one iota and fans responded in kind.
“We chose to name this album “II” because it is both the second album of our reformation with Frontiers Records as well as the second generation of the band with Paul Shortino as lead vocalist,” says guitarist David Michael-Philips. “Paul’s unique style gives the band a new feel apart from what we were in the 80s with original singer Mark/Marcie Free. I think the “re-boot” naming gives Paul the credit he deserves while paying homage to our original singer and sound”.
The thick, soulful vocals of Paul Shortino, dual guitarists Mick Sweda and David Michael-Philips, and the thundering bass and drums of Johnny Rod and Carmine Appice delivered an album that, while easily carrying on the tradition of the first two releases, brought a contemporary twist to a signature melodic, hard rock style. “The “70’s” flavour of this new album was a conscious move to incorporate our influences into the music,” says David Michael-Philips, while Carmine Appice adds “King Kobra was a band in the ‘80s with great players…and had roots in the ‘70s also.. We tried to make a cool combination of both, which I think we achieved with this new album”.
Produced by David Henzerling with Carmine Appice and Paul Shortino, II digs into King Kobra hard rock roots to create an album that has all the swagger and swing of the classic 70’s albums (think Montrose, Bad Company, Deep Purple and even Carmine’s own legendary Cactus) with a crystal clear sound that combines the best of both analogue and digital recording techniques. From the tight and punchy “Have A Good Time” to the 8-minute epic “Deep River”, “II” shows a more mature band confident of its songwriting ability performing with the technical prowess garnered over years of experience.
II track listing includes: Hell On Wheels; Knock ‘Em Dead; Have A Good Time; The Ballad Of Johnny Rod; Take Me Back; When The Hammer Comes Down; Running Wild; The Crunch; Got It Comin’; Deep River; Don’t Keep Me Waiting; We Go Round.

GREAT WHITE took a different approach for this video Shotgun Willie’s. They let their audience helm the director’s chair. Filmed over the course of March’s 2013 Monsters of Rock Cruise, where GREAT WHITE headlined the floating Rock festival, the video encapsulates the high energy of everyone there and the five-piece band’s bond.
“We discovered after looking at the footage that not only do we look like we are having a blast,” guitarist Michael Lardie said. “But that our fans connected to our music in ways that we can’t always see from the stage under the lights. Some of the video is very much a party atmosphere, but this is also a video scrapbook of people who have never stopped loving our music and continue to be a part of the GREAT WHITE family.”
GREAT WHITE gives special thanks to all the fans that participated and contributed.
Shotgun Willie’s is the fourth single off of Elation (Frontiers Records).
The North Carolina Psych-Rock quartet has also added a handful of tour dates for later this month with stops in Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Boston.

Check out the concert flyer for the HARD ROCK FESTIVAL in Lima, Peru! This very cool festival will take place on April 25th, 2013! FIREHOUSE is headlining, with GILBY CLARKE and FASTER PUSSYCAT on the bill! Whoa!
“Quicksand is a quick 2:35 of ghostly dreamdoom that joins the melodies of ’90s shoegaze with the churn of modern sludge and a riff straight from the Billy Corgan playbook,” says Spin in a brief write-up accompanying the song stream, adding that the song is “a muscular swirl that should please anyone who thought m b v didn’t have enough shouting.”
The band has also unveiled the cover art for Ultraviolet, which was done by SeanBeaudry. Beaudry, a fellow Savannah resident, did the artwork for the band’s Time Will Fuse Its Worth reissue. Kylesa will play a free, all ages show in their hometown of Savannah at The Dollhouse on Apr. 19 as a way to thank fans for their ongoing support.
Pitchfork, in the band’s first interview regarding Ultraviolet (http://pitchfork.com/features/show-no-mercy/9084-kylesa/), said of the album: “It’s the… heavy rock band’s darkest, most atmospheric record to date. The collection, which features an array of subtle electronic elements, makes for an expressive, immersive listen that will likely find the double-drumming quintet a larger audience.”
“Unspoken,” also from Ultraviolet, was released online in late February, leading Stereogum to say “… if the album’s first single is any indication, they’ve continued moving away from their peers as well as their own past, conquering new territory,” adding “it’s a total triumph.” The song can be streamed here: https://soundcloud.com/season-of-mist/kylesa-unspoken.

“I genuinely love my fans.” - Terry Ilous
Terry Ilous is no longer the new singer of the legendary Great White. Terry Ilous is the singer of Great White. Make no mistake about it, the electricity is swirling in the air within the Great White camp and Terry Ilous is a credible reason why. One listen to Great White’s 12th studio album Elation and their newly released live gem 30 Years – Live From The SunsetStripand the energy and good-times vibes are contagious, all with a little boost from Terry Ilous.
With previous work with an envious list of who’s who within the Rock, Metal and Pop recording industries, plus previous live lead vocal duties under his belt for Great White, along with being an original member and vocalist for XYZ, Terry Ilous couldn’t have been a better choice for this new era of Great White. Terry Ilous answered the Rockin’ call. Big time.
With an intensely busy schedule, Terry Ilous was very considerate to answer a few questions for me. This music and fan driven artist reflects on his invitation to join Great White, making money, playing live, his greatest moments as a musician and yes… the fans. Here’s what Terry Ilous had to say:
Stone: Terry, how did it all unfold as your becoming the lead vocalist for Great White?
Terry: I was asked to join the band in 2010 to replace Jack (Russell) who was sick. I received a phone call from Mark on Wednesday asking if could perform with the band the next day. I said, ” Yes, of course!” The fans were very supportive. It wasn’t easy, to be honest, as those were big shoes to fill. Jack has recorded some amazing songs. I respect his talent.
The band was very helpful. I developed a strong friendship with them and it helped me tremendously. We performed over 80 shows. When Jack decided not come back in December 2011, I was asked to permanently join the band. Please remember I was initially asked to temporarily join the band, to fill-in during Jack’s absence.
It’s never easy to replace a lead singer. It doesn’t matter how good the singer is! Fans are used to a sound they love. Introducing someone new is very challenging. That’s why when I sing the classic Great White hits, I respect the core structure of the melody.
Stone: Of course, money is essential to live. However, what is more important, selling multi-millions of albums or playing the music that you love in concert for your fans?
Terry: I think both are important. An artist has to have both a business mind and a creative mind. How can I perform for my fans if I have to work two jobs to support my family? And, if I only have a business mind, how can I be creative and genuine for my fans? The music I would create would be calculated and not heart-felt. The fans can feel that. I spend a lot of time with them, I answer my own Facebook questions, not always timely as I receive over 200 emails per day, plus I manage my own Twitter account. I genuinely love my fans.
Stone: Media and fan response to “Elation” and your hit single “Hard To Say Goodbye” has been phenomenal. What were your expectations with the release of “Elation”? I look upon it all as a tremendous fresh and new start for Great White.
Terry: I didn’t know what to expect to be honest with you. All I could do as a singer/songwriter is to be honest with myself. The band sat down, started writing and writing non-stop, comparing ideas. Michael would come up with something then Mark and then myself, not necessarily in that order and we would jam on them and if one idea would please all of us, we would work on it. Audie and Scotty would also be at the studio to comment and help us as well.
At times, it was very exhilarating and at times scary, as we only had 2 weeks to write the songs. We went into the studio with 2 songs. We had to be finished writing, recording, mixing, and mastering within 28 days! It was a lot of pressure! I believe in sincerity and honesty, I know, I’m old-fashioned. So I gave it my very best. Yes, I was nervous, I knew some would welcome me and some would not. I know that replacing a singer is never easy. The fans are used to a sound and it’s sometimes difficult for some to accept a new singer but it’s been done many times before. Dio replaced Ozzy and Coverdale replaced Gillan. Talk about iconic singers being replaced!
We did what a real band does and that’s write music because we love music! They love their fans! Before anything else they are just a bunch of guys getting together to share their same passion for music, not money. Previously, you had asked me about money and the fans. In this case it’s all for the love of music!
Listen to and watch “Hard To Say Goodbye” below!
Stone: Terry, could you pinpoint the greatest moment you’ve experienced as a musician, regardless of how small or large the moment was?
Terry: Coming to America with $500 dollars in my pocket! Getting the deal with XYZ, opening a sold out show for Ted Nugent in Detroit, performing on stage with an acoustic guitar and hearing eighteen thousand fans sing the song a cappella with me, and of course joining the Great White! That’s for sure!

“UNSPOKEN” MP3 AVAILABLE NOW
Feb. 26, 2013, Philadelphia – Kylesa is set to release Ultraviolet, one of the most anticipated Hard Rock releases of the year and the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album SpiralShadow, on May 28 via Season of Mist (May 24 in Europe).
“Whereas Spiral Shadow was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, Ultraviolet is a bit colder and darker,” explains songwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we’ve always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With Ultraviolet, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience.”
The Savannah-based quintet recorded Ultraviolet at The Jam Room in Columbia, SC with the band’s guitar player/songwriter, and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (Baroness, Black Tusk) once again overseeing production.
Kylesa released a rarities collection in November titled From The Vaults, Vol. 1, which featured unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band’s catalogue as well as one new song titled End Truth. Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release.
The band’s most recent studio album, Spiral Shadow, had the highest Metal/Hard Rock entry on the Village Voice’s 2010 Pazz & Jop album poll, led Pitchfork to say “Kylesa would be a household name” following the release and landed the band on the cover of Terrorizer as well as album of the month accolades from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Visions Magazines. In 2011, Kylesa became the first Metal band to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly.
Kylesa will return to the road in May with more details forthcoming.

TOKYO DRAGONS – They came from London, England. They played in-your-face, denim and leather wrapped, good-times Hard Rock. Their debut album Give Me The Fear was released back in 2005, via Escapi Music. This band certainly packed 100% Heavy Rockin’ potency and Give Me The Fear is 100% proof, to my middle-aged and Metal scorched ears. Tokyo Dragons was their name and how I wish they were still in the Hard Rock game!
Apparently, Tokyo Dragons is no longer a band. From what I’ve read, Tokyo Dragons disbanded back in 2008; just after releasing their sophomore album Hot Nuts. With no official website or facebook page existing for this band, the alternative source for information is reading about their career biography on Wikipedia. Now that’s an unfortunate thing.
What I do know is what I hear and Give Me The Fear is an amazing experience of Hard Rock bliss upon my senses! This debut from Tokyo Dragons could have easily been titled: Psyche-You-Out-Of-Your-Hard-Rockin’-Party-Lovin’ Mind! ALL 11 songs on Give Me The Fear are high-octane and pedal to the metal! This is an album that can be enjoyed by both Classic Rock and Hard Rock fans alike; with the 80′s Heavy Metal crowd undoubtedly included!
There’s so many memorable riffs and hooks on Give Me The Fear that it’s flat-out insane! Guitar driven to the maximum and lead vocalist/guitarist Steve Lomax sounds like a seasoned superstar of the Hard Rock world. To me, Tokyo Dragons were (very likely) feeling and sharing some legitimate Hard Rockin’ chemistry as a band, when they recorded their debut; it’s such a damn shame they’re no longer around.
I landed Give Me The Fear on CD this past weekend; finding a used copy at a store called BuybacksEntertainment. For $2.99, I couldn’t have spent my money any wiser! Due to Give Me The Fear, I’ve been transported from being unfamiliar with Tokyo Dragons to being a fan of their heavy music. Tokyo Dragons played some blue-collar, kick-ass Hard Rock. ‘Nuff said.
In my most honest opinion, Tokyo Dragons wasn’t any copycat band. Fans of AC/DC to Cheap Trick (with Helix, Fastway and Motörhead fans in-between) can all find something to savor from Give Me The Fear. I know I’m savoring every moment, each and every time I listen to this album. Now if only Tokyo Dragons would reunite… that would be Hard Rock news to celebrate. Metal be thy name.

LONG LIVE THE HARD ROCKIN’ LEGACY OF TOKYO DRAGONS.
KROKUS – For almost 40 years now, Krokus has stood for high-quality, honest-to-goodness, hand-made power rock. No other Swiss rock band sells albums worldwide like Krokus. The band has already sold over 14 million records, toured the world, and received gold and platinum discs in the USA and Canada. The milestones in their rock career are dotted around the world: from Australia and the USA to Mexico, Russia, Japan, and China.
Today they are back in their classic line-up with Mandy Meyer and are stronger than ever on their new album, DIRTY DYNAMITE. The band spent two years working on the new album under the watchful eye of producer Chris Von Rohr at the legendary Abbey Road Studio. Guitarist MarkKohler has this to add: ‘This is not just another Krokus album. I think we have definitely passed another rock milestone with this record.
BUCKCHERRY – I’ll call it this way, while I was eagerly anticipating the release of Buckcherry’s sixth studio album, Confessions, I knew it would just have to be really good. Let me say this much, my fellow Metal brethren and Rockaholics: Confessions is really, really, really good. Really. Confessions is this type of good: it’s running through the village square naked, while bellowing hallelujah to the Hard Rock and Rock ‘N’ Roll Gods. Now, that’s what Stone calls good.
My eardrums and whatever part of my brain that’s responsible for absorbing music has been thanking me, ever since I’ve been listening to Confessions. The hooks, rhythms, melodic continuance, psyche-you-out beats, vocals, backing vocals, mellow album closing and irresistibly grand presence of guitar driven songs makes Confessions a measuring stick for all other Hard Rock and Rock albums released in 2013. I’m not trying to bamboozle anyone here. Take my Metal word for it and go cash it in at the Rockaholic savings and loan and tell ‘em you were sent by Stone.
* Above: Cover artwork for inside cover of jewel case.
* At top of post is the cover artwork for CD outer sleeve.
Apparently, Buckcherry realizes that there are many Rock, Hard Rock and Metal bands out there all competing for the same audiences and greenbacks. Therefore, obviously, Buckcherry decided to write and record a new album that would stand above the heap and kick the living shit out of my Hard Rock lovin’ ass. Has this new Buckcherry album done the same to you? If so, it feels damn fine… doesn’t it?
It’s like that old cliché of capturing lightning in a bottle; yet with Confessions, Buckcherry captured Hard Rock lightning in a case of bottles. With Confessions being an album of songs that carry the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins, (as seven song titles of Gluttony, Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Envy and Lust portray), this is an album that is as lyrically potent as its memorable music.
With songs like album opener Gluttony and the mid-tempo Rocker of The Truth, Confessions is stacked and packed with song favorites I could continue to list; only what’s the point when the total package is my favorite? I will note that Dreamin’ Of You is a perfect song to end this album. With its inspiring lyrics and slower vibe, Buckcherry sends a clear message through Dreamin’ Of You; that there is still hope and a spirit of belief in oneself for us to reach for after all. Buckcherry can take a justified Hard Rockin’ and Rockin’ bow and I’m raising the horns to the sky for their accomplishment with Confessions. Metal be thy name.
* Buckcherry – Confessions was released on February 19th, via Century Media.
