Dirty Cakes - I'd Luv To See You Nakid - promo cover pic - 2013

DIRTY CAKES BAND – Back on October 1st, 2013, I’d Luv To See You Nakid, the debut (3 song) EP from Dirty Cakes Band was self-released. It is available as a name your price at the (fabulous) music media platform known as Bandcamp (see below). This Psychedelic Desert Grunge band, in my Metal opinion, have 3 outstanding songs to launch their career from, therefore:

I really dig Dirty Cakes Band and there appears to be many others that do as well; especially of the female variety and one visit to their twitter page will explain what I mean. Dirty Cakes Band call Los Angeles, California, home. Their overall sound is a bounty of what I want to hear from an up and coming Hard Rock band. Dirty Cakes Band are (just enough) raw, while dabbling in a few Rock genres and molding it all together to make their own unique and refreshing musical statement.

Dirty Cakes Band have taken their brand of sound and united it with the relevancy of Classic Rock in a wonderful and memorable way. The future should surely be successful for Dirty Cakes Band, as long as they continue to make more great songs, tour and market themselves on social media with Rockin’ legit drive, hunger and passion. They’re certainly off to a tremendous start already. Metal be thy name. – Stone

The Winery Dogs - promo cover pic - 2013

I’ve written that Motörhead are the greatest power trio alive on planet Earth. Well, um, The Winery Dogs are too. Take your pick! Mike Portnoy (drums), Richie Kotzen (vocals) and Billy Sheehan (bass) were born to make music together! The Winery Dogs are a supergroup prototype. Amen and hallelujah.

I don’t know how to put it all into words, other than WHOA! This is a #1 Hard Rock album of any year! Excellent songs and I won’t waste time on the musicianship. If this is what American Hard Rock is supposed to sound like in 2013 and beyond, then count me in! Freaking legends of Rock ‘N Roll are The Winery Dogs. Metal be thy name.

Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here - promo cover

The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Alice In Chains couldn’t have delivered a more incredible follow-up to their 2009 gem Black Gives Way To Blue, with The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. William Duvall once again soars vocally, while Jerry Cantrell’s guitar resonates splendid licks, riffs and tones that equate to iconic territory. This is very much a Classic Rock leaning album; just know the Hard Rock is mouth-watering.

Buckcherry - Confessions - promo - outside cover pic

BUCKCHERRY – Confessions

The best Buckcherry album ever? It comes very, very, very close. Oh, yes, Confessions psyches me out of my Hard Rockin’ mind. I’m guessing that great Hard Rock albums are supposed to do just that.

Black Star Riders - All Hell Breaks Loose - promo cover

BLACK STAR RIDERS  - All Hell Breaks Loose

With current members of Thin Lizzy joining forces with drummer Jimmy DeGrassoBlack Star Riders was born. Led by the legendary guitarist Scott Gorham and fronted by Ricky Warwick, the debut album, All Hell Breaks Loose, from Black Star Riders, became an instant Hard Rock Classic to my ears and soul.

The spirit and legacy of Thin Lizzy still reigns within the world-class talent of Black Star Riders; and the songwriting, lyrics and total vibe of this album taps into everything that’s wonderful about Classic Hard Rock. This is an album I never expected to happen and now it’s a keeper for life! Metal be thy name.

Deep Purple - Now What ?! - promo cover pic

Now What ?! is Deep Purple’s first studio album since 2005′s Rapture Of The Deep. Now What ?! is a continuation of arguably the most consistent Hard Rock band that ever lived. The undeniably influential Deep Purple have once again taken their unique, rich, Classic Hard Rock sound throughout an entire album and made it sound so complete. Ian Gillan and band have nothing more to prove. Now, it’s time for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to understand this.

BOSTON – Life Love & Hope

To all the naysaying critics out there, Tom Scholz has created a gift for Boston fans. The songs on this album would never have seen the light of day, if it were not for Tom Scholz. Songs of personal importance to this musical mastermind are they; and they come across with Classic Rock brilliance!

The late Brad Delp, along with David Victor, Kimberley Dahme, Tommy DeCarlo and Tom Scholz are all featured lead singers. Louis St. August of Mass lends his talents with backing harmonies on album opener and album gem: Heaven On Earth. Another total surprise release, for me, was Life Love & Hope. Thank you, Tom Scholz.

METAL And HARD ROCK 2013 – It’s my Metal opinion, that 2013 was a revival year for many, many quality Rockin’ EP’s. I honestly cannot recall such a fantastic year for EP’s since (maybe) the glorious and colorful 80′s decade. From Stone Temple Pilots to Night Demon, these EP’s that I’ve listened to and enjoyed this past year deserve all the attention and recommendation I can possibly give them, right here on Metal Odyssey.

I’ve compiled a roll call below, of the 26 EP’s I want to celebrate from 2013. Please understand, these EP’s are in no particular order! However, my favorite #1 EP and choice for favorite cover song EP from 2013 are stated below! Many shall find their way onto Metal Odyssey’s 2013 Best Of Albums lists; that’s when the ranking will come into play (if you will). My apologies to any band’s EP that I’ve missed from 2013, I can’t hear ‘em all! Please leave your favorite or missing EP from this list, via comment!!

For now, peruse or glance at this Best EP’s Of 2013 list below and know I heavily endorse each and every EP and band below! Whoa! Please support as many bands you’ll see here as you can! Also look for an EP review link or written review below each title!

Kill For Eden FRONT2 ep copy

KILL FOR EDEN – Living On Mars

Kill For Eden are from London, England and have an enormously contagious 3 song EP that’s titled: Living On Mars. This Hard Rock band mixes up both heaviness and melodies like a delicious treat, straight from the Rock ‘N Roll bakery of ear pastry! Lyla D’Souza has captured the essence of a true Hard Rock vocalist with legitimacy covering her from head to toe! Think: a modern-day Debbie Harry; only not a clone. ALL 3 songs on this EP are ROCK SOLID!

Combined with mega talent, mega songs, a memorable sound and credibility oozing from every musical crevice, Kill For Eden should one day be bigger than they could ever dream imaginable! At least that’s how I feel about this dynamic band. Whoa!

ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP

I’ve enjoyed this second covers EP from Halestorm light years more than their first! The song selection here is unreal good! With the weakest cover song being the AC/DC classic, Shoot To Thrill, 5 out of 6 cover songs that have Rocked my brain loose is fun-fabulous for me! Lzzy Hale and band NAILED it on part 2!

Lzzy Hale is incredible on Fleetwood Mac’s Gold Dust Woman. One track that surprised the hell out of me is the cover of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky… Halestorm makes this song soar!

Metal Odyssey’s #1 FAVORITE EP Of 2013!

BAT – Primitive Age (Demo)

When Ryan Waste (Bass/Vocals), Nick Poulos (Guitar) and Felix Griffin (Drums) united to form BAT, I just knew their Metal was gonna kick my ass. Oh, it has. Old school Metal with no bells or whistles on the production end, Primitive Age is an absolute Metal MUST for each Metalhead alive today.

If I had to choose a #1 favorite original recordings EP on this list, it’s this EP Demo. BAT has reminded me, once again, that EP demos are stuff of legend. Listen for yourself, name your price and buy it by clicking the link below:

Inhale The Fall - Debut EP - promo cover - 2013

From Cork, Ireland comes Inhale The Fall. Vocalist Jenny O’ Keeffe is brilliant! This entire band is rolling in talent! Think: Modern Hard Rock/Metal that isn’t a carbon copy of another carbon copy.  I certainly hope grand Metal events happen for Inhale The Fall, this band is too good.

You can purchase this tremendous EP from Inhale The Fall by going to iTunes:

Ghost - If You Have Ghost - promo cover pic - 2013

GHOST – If You Have Ghost

As a follow-up to their outstanding 2013 full-length, Infestissumam, Ghost releases the If You Have Ghost EP. Production is a quantum leap forward, compared to their (already classic) debut: Opus Eponymous.

Melodic and AOR leaning on these 4 cover songs (and 1 live track), with musical and vocal talent galore, Ghost is still Old School with lots of hazy and macabre like atmosphere. It’s just a crying shame that someone talked Ghost into covering ABBA’s I’m A Marionette. That is Metal sacrilege for such a grand band to go near such a pile of shit as that.

Papa Emeritus II and these nameless ghouls of Metal have effectively established themselves as a top-tier band and brand in our beloved genre. Fans of the legendary Dave Grohl will be tickled senseless, knowing that he produced this EP; along with playing drums, percussion and rhythm guitar on select songs. Metal be thy name!

For Today - Prevailer - promo cover pic - 2013

FOR TODAY – Prevailer

The Christian Hardcore/Metal warriors, For Today, didn’t disappoint my ears with their EP: Prevailer. Once again, For Today keeps their incredible energy level on full-throttle, with their intense Metal exploding from every nook and cranny!

The bonus track is an acoustic version of Fearless (original non-acoustic version is heard on their 2012 studio album: Immortal) and it is a highlight of highlights on this MUST Metal  EP from For Today. Make no Metal mistake, For Today delivers brutal Metal. Period. Wow good.

Sangus - Vengeful Brutality - promo cover pic

SANGUS – Vengeful Brutality

Without a Metal doubt, SANGUS has the most brutal, extreme and vein exploding EP on this “Best EP’s Of 2013″ list! Metal be thy name, SANGUS doesn’t just want to kick you ass into oblivion with their Metal… this band sounds like they want to destroy all Metal non-believers! Perfect.

With (only) 3 songs, the proof is in the Metal from SANGUS and they deliver like a rabid raccoon, filled with rage on a street full of outdoor Summer barbecues! Black Crusted Death Thrash never sounded so insanely good!

TRUCKFIGHTERS – Swedish Fuzz Rockers Unleash Live Track From New EP

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on November 22, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Truckfigters - the chairman - ep - promo cover pic - 2013

In celebration of the release The Chairman Special Edition EP from Swedish fuzz rock contingent, TRUCKFIGHTERS, today the gatekeepers at Blow the Scene offer up a stream of “Monte Gargano” alongside a killer photo set of the band demolishing Philadelphia last August, courtesy of Useless Rebel Imaging.

Rock out with your blocks out at THIS LOCATION.

To hear TRUCKFIGHTERS is to hear the sounds of the desert; it’s in their wide open expanses, grand open grooves and dust-caked metal riffs. Falling somewhere between Fu Manchu and Queens Of The Stone Age, TRUCKFIGHTERS are a band bred on the California badlands, on sprawling vistas and parched wilderness. The dynamic trio however hails from Örebro. Unafraid to plough their own furrow, TRUCKFIGHTERS have forged ahead and spend months on the road touring the world.

Closing in on four-hundred gigs across four continents (Europe, Australia, South America and North America), being in front of crowds, sweat-sodden and crazed is where they are happiest. Commended by Terrorizer for, “putting more rock energy into a single performance than a good proportion of bands do into a career’s worth of shows…,” a TRUCKFIGHTERS performance is a wild, free-form, charged affair.

Truckfighters - band logo - yellow & black - 2013

With that in mind, Last Hurrah Records brings fans The Chairman Special Edition EP. Delivering over thirty minutes of pure power fuzz, the EP features the title track (“The Chairman,” to be featured on the band’s forthcoming 2014 full-length) plus three live tunes – “Desert Cruiser,” “Monte Gangano,” and “Traffic” – all recorded while on tour in Australia. Presented at 45 RPM for best sound quality on a multi-colored vinyl 12-inch, The Chairman Special Edition EP comes in a full-color sleeve and jacket limited to 500 copies worldwide and only available from Last Hurrah Records. The jacket cover artwork has spot UV gloss, spot PMS, and silver metallic ink designed by artist Lindsey Kuhn and comes in two different vinyl colors: Desert Sunset and Desert Sunrise, each a mix of opaque and translucent colors (250 of each color).

Order your copy of The Chairman Special EP courtesy of Last Hurrah Records at THIS LOCATION!

 Critical Praise:

Manraze - I Surrender EP - promo pic - 2013

Will Be Featured Guest On Rockline – November 18, 2013

(Los Angeles)  MANRAZE, the London-based rock band formed by iconic Def Leppard lead guitarist Phil Collen, along with punk rock forerunner Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) on drums and Simon Laffy, rockin’ bass player of Collen’s former glam-band, Girl, release their new EP, I Surrender available on iTunes today – November 12th.  On November 18th MANRAZE will be the featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio show, ROCKLINE with host Bob Coburn. Fans can tune in at 8:30 pm PT/11:30 pm ET. Check for more details.

When not rocking together, the MANRAZE trio continues to keep busy.   Collen holds down his ‘day-job’ as lead guitarist with Def Leppard, heading with the band into a Dublin studio in February to write and record new music.  Collen is also working on his own blues album Delta Deep featuring soulstress Debbi Blackwell-Cook and is currently writing his auto-biography (Simon & Shuster/Atria) due out late 2014.  Cook has been working with Edwyn Collins first on his 2013 album release Understated, and then touring with Collins playing live shows. Currently, Cook is also playing in Subway Sect with Vic Goddard, touring and recording a new album.

Laffy has taken his talents into another creative lane having authored two novels in his ‘off-time’, Red Sunrise and Seed of Satan.  Both are historical fictions set around epic events of the 20th century and are in the process of being published.

Manraze - band promo pic - #177 - 2013

It all started in 2004 when Phil Collen, after 20+ years as lead guitarist for Def Leppard, decided to express himself via another creative outlet.  After a fateful conversation with Simon Laffy and a next day chance meeting with Paul Cook MANRAZE was formed and finally released their debut album SURREAL through Universal Records in the summer of 2008 to rave reviews.

In August 2011 the trio re-enetered the studio and released punkfunkrootsrock which featured the single, “Over My Dead Body.”  In the spring of 2011 the MANRAZE single “I, Superbiker” was the theme song for the feature documentary of the same name. Directed by Mark Sloper, and released solely in the UK, the documentary is an in-depth expose’ into the merciless world of competitive speed bike racing and a look at the men who have dedicated their entire existence to this incredibly dangerous, adrenaline-fueled sport. MANRAZE’s single “Take On The World” featuring Debbi Blackwell-Cook was subsequently released in 2012 as a part of the soundtrack to Sloper’s sequel film “I, Superbiker: The Showdown” which chronicled the rise of 2011 British superbike racing champion Tommy Hill.

MONSTER TRUCK – “FURIOSITY” Will ROCK Your World, Unless You’re An ABBA Fan

Monster Truck - Furiosity - promo cover pic!

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

MONSTER TRUCK – Firstly, I want to thank my friend Maria Haskins for telling me about this mighty Canadian Hard Rock band that call themselves MONSTER TRUCK. As a fellow twitter fiend and ultra terrific writer/reviewer for the legendary Brian Basher over at Hard Rock Nights, Maria without question, knows her Heavy Rock ‘N Roll!

MONSTER TRUCK calls Hamilton, Ontario, Canada their home. Their new full-length studio album, Furiosity, was released on May 28th, 2013, via dine alone records. Please believe me, when I tell you I am extremely hard pressed to find anything I don’t like about this Furiosity album. This album could very well have been titled: Bad Ass Heavy Rock Rules. Hell yes, I’m not kidding. As 2013 (and any year for that matter) has rolled out more Hard Rock and Metal albums than I can possibly keep up with, Furiosity has risen to the top of my personal favorites heap.

Monster Truck - Furiosity - band pic - logo - 2013 - #1

A masterful fusion of Classic Hard Rock and Hard Rock 2013 is this album. The guitar shredding of Jeremy Widerman is mind-blowing! This is one guitarist of Hard Rock that should be on the cover of Guitar Worldnow. The vocals of Jon Harvey are tough as nails and give this band at least 50% of its bad ass character and sound. Jon Harvey plays a mean bass as well! Brandon Bliss on organ and vocals gives this album a downright wonderful Classic Hard Rock feel, sound and vibe. Steve Kiely on drums and vocals plays the songs and not for himself, making for a fabulous listen to just him alone. What a band!

The twelve songs on Furiosity are a listen into what steak and potatoes Hard Rock is supposed to sound like; both in yesteryear and in 2013. The riffs are there, the old school jams are there and the Hard Rock total package is exploding from Furiosity! Do not ponder purchasing Furiosity! MONSTER TRUCK is a band that has arrived, especially with their opening slot on the Canadian dates for the iconic Alice In Chains this past Summer, the reality of it all speaks for itself. Metal be thy name.

Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington “High Rise” EP – An Instant Rock Classic? Yes It Is!

Stone Temple Pilots - High Rise - EP - promo cover

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Stone Temple Pilots with Chester BenningtonHigh Rise EP was released on October 8th, 2013. This is the first of what is to be (hopefully) many more releases with Chester Bennington (of Linkin Park) on vocals. Yes, Chester Bennington hits a cosmic grand slam singing on this EP! Of course, that’s my Metal opinion, however, I guarantee y’all that I’m not alone!

As Chester Bennington had put it, on October 8th, on the Linkin Park Facebook page: “I am very excited that today marks the release of the HIGH RISE EP and the beginning of a new era for Stone Temple Pilots.” I’ll have to 100% agree with Mr. Bennington there! A new era for Stone Temple Pilots indeed! I absolutely believe that Chester Bennington can sing ANY song from the iconic catalog of Stone Temple Pilots with not just ease… he’ll sing any STP song with passion, sincerity and pride!

Stone Temple Pilots - Black Heart - promo cover pic - 2013

Listen to the latest single “Black Heart” from the High Rise EP by clicking here:

The Grunge movement, yes, is a storied chapter in Rock history. Regardless of silly genre labeling, STP is a Seattle Heavy Rock ‘N Roll band in my world. With that said, STP (as with Alice In Chains) have (once again) gone into a direction musically that I find as instantly classic! I’m happy to say that this new STP EP is as BIG of a surprise to me than I’ve ever expected! I honestly cannot believe how enormous all 5 songs on High Rise play out and sound! Don’t be misunderstood, STP still comes out strong with their classic sound on this EP; it’s just that STP sounds more confident and bolder than ever before! I commend STP for releasing a 5 song EP with Chester Bennington, while not making their fans yearn for new material.

(Former) vocalist Scott Weiland may be gone and on his own now, still, I won’t turn my nose up at him; regardless of the negative stories that have surrounded him for many years running. Hey, no matter how we try to slice it, Scott Weiland is a Rock legend, just as all the members of STP (including Chester) are. Heck, I will forever get the ostrich bumps on my arms and face, while listening to Scott Weiland sing my 3 favorite STP songs of all time: Plush, Wicked Garden and Interstate Love Song.

Stone Temple Pilots - Chester Bennington - promo band flyer - 2013 - #477

I would think that a vast majority of STP fans will be bouncing off the ceiling for this new era of the band. I tried to bounce off my ceiling only it just didn’t work out too good. Emails have poured in asking me which is my favorite song off of High Rise. My favorite song is: Black Heart. (See above link to hear it!) This ultra Rockin’ song, as with this entire EP, are sonic proof that you don’t need to get too complicated with Rock ‘N Roll in order to make an instant Rock classic. BUY this High Rise EP and be happy that STP exists in 2013. Metal be thy name.

One last Metal thought:

By the way, if y’all found I ranted along too much here, please do not complain to my supervisor. Please don’t. Have some heart. Working here at Metal Odyssey is so fucking cool, cause the owner lets me take (many) beer breaks.

With influences ranging from White Zombie to Motorhead, Beasto Blanco’s “LIVE FAST DIE LOUD” is a full-length anthemic hard rock offering that keeps you amped on “10″ from start to finish! The progeny of long time Alice Cooper bassist Chuck Garric, “LIVE FAST DIE LOUD” yields a powerful combination of heavy riffs, driving bass, and melodic choruses that are bound to stick in your head after just one listen! Beasto Blanco is quickly becoming a favorite of the music and movie industry’s most respected talents! Here is what just a few of them have to say about “LIVE FAST DIE LOUD”:

Johnny Depp: “What an honor to hear something as beastly and killer as this!!! It’s truly, truly great and wonderfully kind of life affirming! Makes one feel ownership of their being!”

Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden): “Chuck has got himself a ‘KIN’ blazing band here. “LIVE FAST DIE LOUD” from Beasto Blanco is a solid piece and rockin’ like there is no tomorrow! Well done me old china!”

Alice Cooper: “Beasto Blanco to me is an East L.A ‘Day Of The Dead’ kind of hard rock band. They seem dangerous – don’t stand too close, this is a band that I see exploding in the next few years. Bob Ezrin (Producer): “Chuck Garric is a modern-day monster, one of the most talented and heaviest rock musicians I’ve ever worked with!”

Mikkey Dee (Motorhead):  LIVE FAST DIE LOUD is a real ass-kicker and I wouldn’t expect anything less when Chuck is at the forefront, keep slammin!

John Corabi: “I totally love “LIVE FAST DIE LOUD”! This is the real deal, it’s 100% raw energy from start to finish!”

“LIVE FAST DIE LOUD” features Chuck Garric, Calico Cooper, Glen Sobel, Jonathan Mover, Chris Latham, Tiffany Lowe and more!

Killer Dwarfs - Start @ One - promo cover pic

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

KILLER DWARFSWhat once was old is new again. What once was forgotten is rediscovered and glistens like a full and welcomed beer keg under a moonlit sky. This beer keg being referenced is the “lost” studio album, Start @ One, from one of Canada’s greatest of Heavy Rock bands ever: KILLER DWARFS. With KILLER DWARFS new studio album Start @ One, the bright lights of Arena Rock and party like you’re 18 again magic of this 1980′s/early 90′s Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band has returned!

This album was meant to be released years ago; only the timing and circumstances surrounding it would not allow this darling batch of nine songs to see its delivery upon the Dwarf Nation. Now it’s here! Unlaced Nike high-top sneakers as my witness, this KILLER DWARFS album is as fun, entertaining and Hard Rockin’ today, as it would have been back in the day. This is an album and a band that is brimming with so much appeal. Many, many from the Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Hair Metal and Melodic Heavy Metal crowds should be stoked by the gallant return of KILLER DWARFS!

KillerDwarfsMadness1-logo - promo

Quality Melodic Hard Rock of yesteryear will never lose it’s luster, flavor or psyche-you-out impact on me. Start @ One is proof positive of this. It’s the colorful and booming sound of KILLER DWARFS, with major league songs that have always made them so memorable and this album is once again confirmation of just that; with the band’s chemistry of good times and Rock ’till you drop attitude spilling over each song!

Russ Dwarf should now be considered in every conversation of celebrated vocalists of 80′s Hard Rock up to present day. Solid Ground, Sky Is Falling and seven other songs are my choice favorites on Start @ One… and I’m not messing around! If you’re to take my Metal advice and run with it, then, go and buy Start @ One and be reminded that KILLER DWARFS have reunited and returned to conquer the villages, rural centers and all urban dwellings, while raising the Dwarf Nation flag to more grandiose heights! Metal be thy name.

EMPHATIC – Set October 22nd Release Date For Sophomore Album Another Life, Featuring Frontman Toryn Green (Fuel, Apocalyptica)

Emphatic - Another Life - promo cover pic

Omaha-based hard rockers, Emphatic have announced an October 22nd release date for their sophomore album, Another Life, with Epochal Artists Records/Capitol Music Group. The album will be the first to feature new frontman Toryn Green, previously the singer of multi-platinum rock band FUEL and the touring vocalist for Finnish cello-rock band Apocalyptica.

Emphatic guitarist Justin McCain says, “This band has seen its share of difficult situations, and for me, I was the guy that had to decide to give up or fix what was broken. Music is in my blood so giving up isn’t an option.” He continues, “After making that decision to continue we found Toryn and he was everything I’ve ever wanted in a frontman. The record is a reflection of the trials and tribulations we went through as a band over the past couple of years.”

Produced by McCain and co-produced by Ryan Greene at Validus Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Another Life showcases Emphatic’s newfound sense of maturity and creative firepower, joining McCain’s drive with Green’s energy, as they deliver a powerful dose of groundbreaking hard rock. Now, with rejuvenated creativity, the band is firing on all cylinders with a line-up that matches the intensity of their songs. Another Life is filled with gigantic hooks, powerful melodies and is an inspiring triumph over adversity.

Emphatic are best known for their major label debut album Damage, which produced the hit single “Bounce”, shooting the album onto the Billboard Heatseekers charts at #9. The album was produced by Howard Benson (Three Days Grace, Halestorm), and featured A Perfect Circle’s Josh Freese playing drums. From there, Emphatic went on to take part in the Carnival Of Madness Tour, alongside hard rock heavyweights Theory of a Deadman, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, and Adelitas Way.

SASQUATCH – Los Angeles Rock Hellions To Release Fourth Full-Length Via Small Stone Tomorrow

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock albums, hard rock bands, Metal, metal music, Music, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on September 23, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Sasquatch - IV - promo cover pic

Los Angeles hellions, SASQUATCH, will unleash their fourth full-length of red-eyed road rock via Small Stone Records this Tuesday! Fittingly titled IV, the drum and bass tracks were recorded by Steve Lehane and Al Sutton at Rustbelt Studios in Detroit, Michigan while guitars and vocals were recorded by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, Massachusetts (who also produced and mixed the nine-track offering). IV was mastered by Chris Goosman (Acid King, Suplecs, Sons of Otis) at Baseline Audio Labs in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Drawing influence from ’70s metal, rock, and psychedelia, SASQUATCH falls somewhere between an amalgamation of Black Sabbath, old Soundgarden, Deliverance-era Corrosion of Conformity, Mountain, and a bastardized version of Grand Funk Railroad. Their songwriting approach is clear;keep the focus on the hook.

IV Track Listing:

1. The Message

2. Eye of the Storm

3. Sweet Lady

4. Money

5. Smoke Signal

6. Wolves at My Door

7. Me and You

8. Corner

9. Drawing Flies

Sasquatch - IV - promo cover pic

A decade is a significant length of time by any measure, whether you’re talking about accelerating divorce rates or playing in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Add to that the fast-paced changes initiated by technology and a decade can feel like a lifetime… or, in the case of Los Angeles rockers SASQUATCH, a turbulent yet accomplished career.

After bursting onto the stoner rock scene with two closely packed studio albums (conveniently namedSasquatch I and II) in 2004 and 2006, the power-trio went subterranean until 2010 before resurfacing with a new lineup and propulsive third opus (entitled, you guessed it, III), to the relief of many impatient fans and the Small Stone Records Board of Directors.

More importantly though, this career-establishing trilogy managed to seduce consumers and critics: beginning with the debut’s roaring-down-the-highway riffs, hypnotic grooves and occasional forays into southern rock, continuing with the sophomore LP’s increasingly focused, hook-laden hard rock classicism (standout “Barrel of a Gun” lacked only payola to become a massive radio hit), and culminating in the third album’s heightened states of fuzz-distortion and earth-rumbling power chords, capable of reducing Marshall stacks to plastic pudding.

All the while, SASQUATCH steadily brought their advanced heavy rock “theories” to the people, as they demolished stages across the globe alongside the likes of Blue Cheer, Nebula, Unida, Solace and Fatso Jetson. Most recently, the band was sighted marauding across Europe with Small Stone labelmates Roadsaw and Dixie Witch.

Sasquatch - IV - promo cover pic

Meanwhile, SASQUATCH’s music has been tapped to soundtrack everything from movies (Jersey Girl), to television shows (FX’s Sons of Anarchy, A&E’s Dog The Bounty Hunter, the CW’s The Supernatural, and MTV’s Viva La Bam), to video games (NHL 2005, American Chopper, and Monster Garage).

The time has finally come for SASQUATCH members Keith Gibbs (guitar, vocals), Jason Casanova (bass) and Rick Ferrante (drums) to deliver a brand-spanking new album, whose chosen title - IV - was as inevitable as the urgent need shared by discerning fans of superior, song-oriented rock to hear it. IV is arguably the power trio’s most mature, inspired and diverse song-set to date, rife with compositional twists, both heartwarmingly familiar and totally unexpected, plus thundering power chords, sizzling solos, shrewd melodic flights and even super-trippy moments – but all heavy on the heavy.

To top it off, SASQUATCH have upped their lyrical game, devoting unprecedented attention to spinning engaging new yarns out of those evergreen rock ‘n’ roll stories about love lost, hate found, relationships built, lives trashed, homes wrecked… All’s fair in love and doom. At the end of the day,IV‘s shimmering end results reveal a real album, not just a collection of songs that happen to be living under the same roof to save a little rent money!

IV will be available via Small Stone Records September 24, 2013 (tomorrow)!

Order your copy HERE.
