HULL – To Be Featured On TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker, Airing Monday, January 16th

Brooklyn Sludge Rock ensemble HULL will ring in the New Year with an appearance on The Learning Channel’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker this Monday, January 16, 2012 at 9:00PM EST. The Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker is a TLC series hosted by Buddy Valastro, the star of his own reality series, Cake Boss. The show features contestants participating in challenges that test their baking and decorating skills.

Commented guitarist/vocalist N. Palmirotto: “We received this email from a production manager from the TV show, The Next Great Baker, a Cake Boss spin-off, asking us if we would like to perform on the show. It was during the time that the Big Four were in town, and Megadeth were originally asked to perform for Mauro’s birthday. Mauro Castano is the Cake Boss’ right-hand man and brother-in-law, as he was always a big Metalhead back in the day, but Megadeth couldn’t do it for whatever reason. HULL was mentioned at a board meeting, and low and behold, they contacted us. We showed up in Hoboken on a rainy afternoon to a huge production. They had us set up and perform on top of two box trucks while the contestants displayed their best attempts at metal-themed birthday cakes. It was truly a one of a kind experience, and we are very much looking forward to Episode 8, Headbanging Bakers, on January 16th.”

For more info on the show, point your browser to the official website HERE.

HULL recently unleashed their Beyond The Lightless Sky opus, which continues to earn critical praise from fans and media alike. Released via The End Records, Beyond The Lightless Sky was co-produced by Brett Romnes, mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins, et al).and features guest appearances by vocalist Jarboe, keys/ambiance by Fade Kainer (Batillus/Jarboe/Inswarm ) and cello by Joe Merolla with artwork by Tamara Waite-Santibanez.

HULL Issue Tour Wrap-Up, Band To Open For EYEHATEGOD In Brooklyn This Sunday!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on December 2, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Brooklyn Sludge Rock sensations HULL recently returned from a pillaging month-long tour crumbling stages throughout the U.S. with their sonic wall of triple-guitar led, conceptual enormity. Bassist Sean Bryant Dunn recently posted an extensive tour wrap-up. An excerpt reads:

“First and foremost, The Fucking Wrath are amazing dudes! Wise are they in entering and sustaining the ‘Nite Zoo’ mentality. Ripping through the states with these boys was truly an honor and meeting them again could come no sooner. Sorry that merch dog Shimer had to deal with that crazy shooting in NOLA on Halloween. If only he had worn the Duke that road dog Hollis had donned for his warrior outfit, there would not have been any random violence. The situation would have been resolved quickly and with less innocent casualties.”

Read the full tour report HERE.

In related news, HULL will be playing with Eyehategod this Sunday at Club Europe in Brooklyn, NY. Show starts at 8:00pm. Don’t miss it! Further info available at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, Metal Injection recently posted an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation of HULL‘s “Beyond The Lightless Sky” video. If you missed it the first time, check out the “making of” video footage HERE.

Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn, New York, HULL has yet again emerged with a creation to outlive the ages with latest saga, Beyond The Lightless Sky. Digging further into the past, the Mayan epic takes the listener through a division of two brothers and the struggles that they are faced with. One finds salvation amongst the stars and the wisdom of a stranger, while the other is mesmerized with the bloodthirsty belief of sacrifice and self-mutilation. In silence lies a realm that exists outside the plane of fear.

Today long-running New York City weekly newspaper, The Village Voice, is hosting an exclusive stream/download of “Fire Vein,”  the fifth track off HULL‘s upcoming new full-length,  Beyond The Lightless Sky. Set for release on October 11, 2011 via The End Records, the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed Sole Lord debut was co-produced by Brett Romnes and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins, et al).

Commented the Village Voice in an advance review of the record: “Beyond The Lightless Sky, doesn’t stay in one place for too long; instead, it veers between motorcycle-revving D-beat, bog-trawling doom, sinister black metal, Neurosis drum-offs and hypnotic passages that gnash like a venom-dripping cousin to the final Isis album.”

HULL – To Release Beyond The Lightless Sky: October 11th: Artwork And Track Listing Revealed

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on August 6, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

HULL – Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn, New York, HULL has yet again emerged with a creation to outlive the ages. Hard at work since the release of their 2009 debut, Sole Lord, ideas were envisioned and the mighty wind of creativity brought upon this Earth the latest saga, Beyond The Lightless Sky.

Taking the new songs on the road, HULL embarked on a successful mission to Austin for the SXSW Festival to then triumphantly return and join forces with longtime friend and talented engineer/percussionist, Brett Romnes (IATA). Within an enormous, darkened club, many nights fell into morning as the immense sound was captured for the album, before putting the recording into the hands of a mixing madman, Billy Anderson. With such experience as The Melvins, Neurosis and Eyehategod, the journey was brutally finished.

Known to behold vast sound expanses, HULL maximizes harmony and tone within one monstrous palate. Upon your brow, focus, as a furious whip of intermingling guitars propel you through the atmosphere as a low pulse resonates through your entire being while the pounding drums blanket all chasms of reality. Find yourself immersed in a musical tide as it is played out before your ears beyond the lightless sky.

2. Just A Trace of Early Dawn
3. Beyond The Lightless Sky

5. Fire Vein
6. Wake The Heavens, Reveal The Sun
7. False Priest
8. A Light That Shone From Aside The Sea

HULL – Issue Tour Wrap-Up Via Decibelmagazine.com

Posted in metal music, metal odyssey, Music, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on May 3, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

This past March, Brooklyn-based Progressive Sludge Rock ensemble, HULL, completed a two-week tour with post-Doom troupe Batillus. The journey included gigs with some crushing bands, a near shut down due to “the aural strain” the band reportedly levied upon one unsuspecting neighborhood, running from cops, good food, guns, ATVs, some chest-caving appearances at this year’s SXSW and so much more.

Reads a snippet from their well-documented adventure: “I noticed one of the cops was coming after me. Although my first instinct was to protect the cavalry, my next instinct was to run from the possibility of going to jail and ruining our SXSW.  Next thing I knew, I was hiding out in a random garage in bumfuck Ft. Worth…”

Check out the band’s entire tour diary — which includes photos and random video footage — at Decibel Magazine’s website HERE.

HULL are gearing up to release the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed Sole Lord debut, issued via The End Records in 2009. Their sophomore full-length will be co-produced by Brett Romnes (who played drums on their pummeling Viking Funeral EP) and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Neurosis, Eyehategod, Melvins, et al). Stay tuned for further details…

HULL To Open For Pentagram In NY This January 2011!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal music, stoner metal music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 19, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

Brooklyn, New York-based triple guitar-led sludge titans HULL are pleased to announce their appearance on a very special show this January opening for doom icons Pentagram. The performance will take place at Brooklyn’s Club Europa on January 6, 2011. Additional support will come from  Judas Priestess and Bezoar. To purchase tickets, visit: http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=3318815

Commented the band : “This year being the first of the future, twenty-ten, it marks the starting point of a whole new century of sonic learning that we can’t even begin to imagine. Twenty-eleven has been foretold to perhaps even melt the faces of those who aren’t listening to the learning. The first of these twelve or seventy-three different events to mark the future will fall upon the sixth day of twenty-eleven at eight of the clock, when the bare moon is halved and then thrice cloven, thus appearing to be full.

For those who would stand proud and open their ears to this gift, it is said it may be witnessed on the continent of Europa during the season of the Pentagram, when the Judas Priestess battles the mighty Bezoar they pilot an oaken Hull through Hell…  Citizens! Come! Look into the bright light of the future and hear the words of the universe!

…and after having shared the stage with Pentagram at Planet Caravan Festival in Asheville, NC in 2009, HULL is very excited to experience the unpredictability of the infamous Mr. Bobby Liebling once again. Hopefully fans may even get a glimpse of his doppelganger, Sir Greg Peterson of Batillus fame.”

HULL have been holed up at an undisclosed location working on the follow-up to their Sole Lord debut, issued via The End Records in 2009. Their sophomore full-length will be co-produced by Brett Romnes (who played drums on the band’s long coveted Viking Funeral EP, initially self-released in 2007) and mixed by Bill Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Neurosis, EHG, Melvins et al). – (Source: Earsplit press release, November 19, 2010).
