Kylesa - Group Promo Pic - 2013 - #18

April 18, 2013, Philadelphia – Southern hard rock quintet Kylesa have scheduled a Reddit live chat session/AMA this Saturday, April 20, at 1:00 PM EST (4 PM PST). The band will respond to fans directly, via an “Ask Me Anything” thread.

One of the most popular Reddits is IAmA (“I am a”) where a user may post “AMAs” (for “Ask Me Anything”), or similarly “AMAAs” ( for “Ask Me Almost Anything”) – prompts for others to ask questions on any topic. AMAs are open to all Reddit users, and use the site’s comment system for both questions and answers. A number of notable individuals have participated in the IAmA Reddit.

Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” (AMAs) are one of the most popular features on the heavily trafficked site. Past AMA’s have included sessions with President Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Deadmau5 among others.

Recently, Kylesa announced a new summer tour. The “Ultraviolet Summer 2013 Tour” will kick off on May 10 in Gainesville, Fla. and end on June 22 in Savannah, Ga. The tour will see support from Blood Ceremony, White Hills and Lazer/Wulf. A full list of tour dates can be found below.

Kylesa previously released a new song, called “Vultures Landinghere.  Kylesa also premiered the tracks “Quicksandhere, and “Unspokenhere. Ultraviolet pre-orders are available now via the Season of Mist’s E-Shop.

One of the most anticipated hard rock releases of 2013, and the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Spiral Shadow, Kylesa is set to release Ultraviolet on May 28. The Savannah-based quintet recorded Ultraviolet at The Jam Room in Columbia, S.C. with the band’s guitar player/songwriter, and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (Baroness, Black Tusk) once again overseeing production.

Kylesa - Summer Tour - 2013 - promo flyer

Mar. 28, 2013, Philadelphia – Kylesa kick off their first North American tour in support of Ultraviolet (May 28, Season of Mist) on May 10 in Gainesville, Fla. at the High Dive.

“It’s been a while since we’ve done a headlining tour in the US or Canada,” explained singer/guitar player Laura Pleasants, referring to the near two-year gap since the Savannah band’s last run.  “We are looking forward to doing a proper tour supporting Ultraviolet.  It will be good to see friends and fans (old and new) and hit these once familiar landscapes again. “

Spin premiered “Quicksand,” a new song from the 11-track album, earlier this week (http://www.spin.com/articles/kylesa-quicksand-ultraviolet-stream) describing the song “joins the melodies of ‘90s shoegaze with the churn of modern sludge.”

Ultraviolet pre-orders are available now via Season of Mist’s e-shop (http://e-shop.season-of-mist.com/en/predefined-search/37879).

KYLESA – RELEASE “ULTRAVIOLET” ON MAY 28th, VIA SEASON OF MIST

“UNSPOKEN” MP3 AVAILABLE NOW

Feb. 26, 2013, Philadelphia – Kylesa is set to release Ultraviolet, one of the most anticipated Hard Rock releases of the year and the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Spiral Shadow, on May 28 via Season of Mist (May 24 in Europe).

“Whereas Spiral Shadow was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, Ultraviolet is a bit colder and darker,” explains songwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we’ve always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With Ultraviolet, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience.”

Unspoken, a new song from the eleven-track album is available now for Season of Mist newsletter subscribers (www.season-of-mist.com/news/kylesa-2013-02-26).

The Savannah-based quintet recorded Ultraviolet at The Jam Room in Columbia, SC with the band’s guitar player/songwriter, and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (Baroness, Black Tusk) once again overseeing production.

Kylesa released a rarities collection in November titled From The Vaults, Vol. 1, which featured unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band’s catalogue as well as one new song titled End Truth. Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release.

The band’s most recent studio album, Spiral Shadow, had the highest Metal/Hard Rock entry on the Village Voice’s 2010 Pazz & Jop album poll, led Pitchfork to say “Kylesa would be a household name” following the release and landed the band on the cover of Terrorizer as well as album of the month accolades from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Visions Magazines. In 2011, Kylesa became the first Metal band to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly.

Kylesa will return to the road in May with more details forthcoming.

KYLESA “From The Vaults, Vol. 1″ – Unveiling An Exceptional Bounty Of Sonic Heaviness!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 14, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

KYLESA – Fans of Kylesa know that this Savannah Georgia band can play heavy as molasses, sludgy, doomy and hard as railroad spikes, while (obviously) keeping an open mind approach to atmosphere of sound, feel, mood and vibes within each and every song they’ve ever recorded. Kylesa has never carbon copied their own creations. Kylesa is not a band built on slamming down the Metal hammer of sound and acting out the parts. No way.

With From The Vaults, Vol. 1, (releasing on November 20th, via Season Of Mist), Kylesa takes their multi-heavy genre approach to momentous heights, by offering up a combination of new, unreleased and alternate versions of songs, spanning their notable catalog of albums. New fans of Kylesa shall be born from listening to this excellent collection of songs on From The Vaults, Vol. 1.

Drained (previously unreleased Buzzov-en cover) showcases the thundering doom persona that Kylesa can unleash musically upon the senses, with an air of remarkable ease. Kylesa has taken a gilded pillar of a Pink Floyd song (Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun) and without question, have made said song their very own. The Psychedelic, Progressive and Stoner elements seem to marry into one another in (dare I say) miraculous heavy ways, while my ears inhale this Pink Floyd cover. At 6:58, this cover song is epic; the flow of musical sounds makes for a mind journey that I thank Kylesa for taking me on.

The new song on From The Vaults, Vol. 1 is End Truth. This song is dreamy, with a strong hint of melancholy and swirls of early 70′s Sabbath-like atmosphere. With that said, there is an amazing charge of relevance spilling from End Truth; so much so, that it’s a profoundly wonderful listen for me.

When one asks why a band would record alternate versions of their songs, the answer I’ll always give is: “whereas they can.” On Bottom Line II, Kylesa doesn’t hold back on a Punk spontaneity that’s built on speed, combined with a sudden and not so subtle lapse of Sludge. Another grand moment on this album.

Heavy Rock genius isn’t learned from a text-book, it’s earned from both experience and mastering one’s musical  skills. Kylesa has exemplified their genius impressively well with From The Vaults, Vol. 1. There’s no “I” in this band, just a whole lot of unique heavy that’s always a welcomed sound experience. Metal be thy name.

KYLESA – Rarities Collection, FROM THE VAULTS, VOL. 1, Set For Nov. 20th Release Via Season Of Mist

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on September 2, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

TWELVE-SONG RELEASE FEATURES ONE NEW SONG, PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED AND ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF SONGS FROM BAND’S CATALOGUE

______________________________

Kylesa is set to release From The Vaults, Vol. 1,  a twelve-song collection featuring unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning their catalogue including one entirely new song (“End Truth”) as well as the band’s legendary cover of Pink Floyd’s “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” on Nov. 20 (Nov. 16 in Europe).

“This project has been a labor of love,” explained guitarist/singer/producer Phillip Cope. “We have spent over a year going through old songs, covers, etc. and collected those we felt went well together; remixing and finishing them up. We didn’t want to release something just thrown together so we put a lot of thought and time into it. I am really happy about how this came together. I think it is a good representation of Kylesa’s different styles from early on to present day.

The Savannah-based band recently wrapped up an European tour, which included stops at the Wacken Open Air and Area 4 Festivals,  and will enter the studio to begin work on a new album for 2013. Kylesa’s most recent release, 2010′s Spiral Shadow, was revered by fans and critics alike as a “record that trashes everything you might expect from the genre” (Pitchfork) and is “as sweaty as a south Georgia summer” (Spin).  Singer/guitarist Laura Pleasants was recently featured on the cover of Decibel Magazine’s inaugural Women in Metal issue.

June 28, 2012, Philadelphia – Decibel Magazine’s inaugural Women in Metal issue featuring Laura Pleasants (Kylesa), Mlny Parsonz (Royal Thunder) and Marisa Martinez (Cretin) is on newsstands now.

The August issue features a photo session with the three innovative female musicians as well as interviews with Jucifer, Doro, Landmine Marathon and an assortment of women in the music industry.

Kylesa, who have been on the road consistently since the Fall 2010 release of Spiral Shadow, recently reissued To Walk a Middle Course and Time Will Fuse Its Worth on colored vinyl limited quantities via Alternative Tentacles. The band returns to the road on July 27 with a performance at the Greenville Festival in Germany with a number of additional festival dates during the European run including performances at Wacken Open Air and Area 4 Festivals.

Royal Thunder recently released their debut album, CVI, to rave reviews including Pitchfork who described Parsonz as “equal parts riot grrl and gospel diva.”  The Atlanta-based quartet is currently on tour with Valient Thorr  through July 19.  Royal Thunder performs back-to-back hometown shows on July 22 and 23 at The Masquerade.

Cretin is currently writing their highly anticipated sophomore album and long-awaited follow-up to 2006’s Freakery. Martinez has also served as the legendary band Repulsion’s live guitarist for the past few years.
