Northern Oak are renowned for their ability to weave vicious Black Metal riffs with haunting flute folk melodies. Live From The Pit Due In September

Laser’s Edge division, Sensory Records, has confirmed the late Summer release of the new live album from Los Angeles-based Progressive/Power Metal group, REDEMPTION.

In 2012, REDEMPTION co-headlined the world-famous ProgPower Festival in Atlanta, where the band recorded a unique show featuring nearly eighty minutes of material and staged with complementary visuals that drive home the compelling emotional impact of this band. That performance is now being constructed for official worldwide release as, Live From The Pit, to be delivered in a CD/DVD package including additional bonus material, including a 5.1 surround mix and more.

From fan favorites such as the never-before-performed “Parker’s Eyes” to the crushing emotional weight of “Stronger than Death,” the band’s performance captured the special ability of its music to deeply connect with fans. In the words of one concert goer, REDEMPTION‘s show “was definitely the most exhausting, personal and emotional musical experience I’ve ever had.”

Live From The Pit will see release via Sensory Records, REDEMPTION‘s original label, responsible for their seminal first two albums, on September 16th, 2014.

REDEMPTION is one of the leading Progressive Metal bands in the world today. Formed in 2000 by guitarist / keyboardist / songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features legendary Progressive Metal vocalist Ray Alder of Fates Warning, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel), and the phenomenal rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and Sean Andrews (bass). REDEMPTION‘s combination of heaviness not usually found in Progressive Metal, irresistible melodies and emotional urgency has created a unique and resonant voice for this band that sets them apart from the many clones in the genre, and which has gained them the attention of fans, critics and musicians.

Through the band’s first three studios albums – 2002’s self-titled debut, 2005’s The Fullness of Time, and 2007’s The Origins of Ruin, REDEMPTION gained a loyal fan base and garnered rave reviews worldwide from critics, who describe Redemption’s music as, “one of the best Progressive Metal acts to emerge in the past decade” [DPRP], praised their “magical aura and incredible songwriting” [Blabbermouth], stating, “it’s powerful, catchy, enslaving, technical; it’s the whole bunch” [Lords Of Metal] and having been dubbed, “the new star on the US prog-metal sky” [Squealer Rocks].

REDEMPTION has captivated audiences around the world with their incredible live performances. This was proven on a massive scale in 2008, when the band supported Dream Theater on a five-week North American tour and documenting a headlining show at the tour’s end, entitled Frozen in the Moment, the band returned to the studio to release 2009’s Snowfall on Judgment Day and 2011’s This Mortal Coil.

LONEWOLF – Added To Massacre Records Family!

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 19, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Lonewolf - promo band collage - 2014 - #7707

From Massacre Records:

The history of LONEWOLF, hailing from Grenoble (France), began back in 1992. They played True Heavy Metal since the very beginning and soon released several demo tapes as well as a 7” and recorded even an album, which unfortunately never got released and is referred to as “the lost album”. Following a bad experience with a French label, LONEWOLF split up in 1996.

They came back in 2000, along with the demo “March Into The Arena”, which was re-released as the band’s debut album via Goi Music in 2001.

The second album “Unholy Paradise” followed two years later. “Made In Hell” was released in 2008 via Eat Metal, followed by “The Dark Crusade” in 2009 (via Kathargo Records/Killer Metal Records). The band’s latest albums are “Army Of The Damned” (2012, Napalm Records) and “The Fourth And Final Horseman” (2013, Napalm Records).

LONEWOLF were the first French band ever to play in Greece and were opening act for Grave Digger at their first gig in France. During the past decade, LONEWOLF went on headliner EU tour w/ Dragonsfire and Iron Fate in 2011 and were part of the “Wolfsnächte Tour” 2012, along with Powerwolf, Stormwarrior and Mystic Prophecy. They also played at festivals such as the Up The Hammers (GR), Headbangers Open Air (GER), Hard Rock Session (FR), Beastival (DE) or the Metalfest Open Airs (DE and AT).

LONEWOLF’s new album “Cult Of Steel” will be released in autumn 2014 via Massacre Records!

Alex Hilbert – Lead Guitar

Rikki Mannhard – Bass

Stone Picks His Top 6 JUDAS PRIEST Albums… Whoa!

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 18, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Judas Priest - promo band pic - 2014 - #1986

JUDAS PRIEST – I ponder rather consistently, as to which albums are my favorite from the Judas Priest catalog. I’ve decided to choose my top six Judas Priest albums once and for all. Or is it really once and for all? Everyone has their own likes and dislikes; therefore my list is just that, a personal choice.  Four out of the six albums I’ve chosen are from the classic era of Judas Priest; an era that catapulted this iconic band into super Metal stardom.

Let me know which Judas Priest albums you would choose as favorites, via comments; it will be interesting discussion! Judas Priest really are the Defenders Of The Faith. There are great Metal bands and then there are F*#king great Metal bands. Judas Priest for me are F*#king great. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Judas Priest - Painkiller - promo cover pic - #4494

#6

PAINKILLER

Released in 1990, Painkiller was a comeback album for Judas Priest after the Turbo and Ram It Down mainstream darlings. This was also the last studio album before Rob Halford stepped out and Tim “Ripper” Owens stepped in for 1997’s Jugulator and 2001’s Demolition. A kick-ass album is Painkiller, front beginning to end it rages. ‘Nuff said.

Judas Priest - Redeemer Of Souls - promo cover pic

#5

REDEEMER OF SOULS

I honestly never anticipated such a milestone album from Judas Priest! With the absence of guitarist and founding member K. K. Downing, I wondered how anyone else could step in? Well, Richie Faulkner has stepped in, quite superbly! Rob Halford sounds like he’s 25 years old on this album! This is a grand follow-up to 2005’s Angel Of Retribution; with my making no insult to 2008’s concept (detour) album Nostradamus.

I could easily have made this new Priest offering my #2 pick; only I would be ignoring all the influential reasons why I fell in love with this band in the first place. This new album from Judas Priest has me psyched-out beyond Metal belief; a consummate Metal album of 2014! I’m tempted to put this Redeemer Of Souls CD under my pillow at night. Just kidding. No, I’m not.

Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith - promo cover pic - #00115

#4

DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH

1984 was a very, very good year due to Defenders Of The Faith being released. With classics such as Freewheel Burning, Love Bites, Some Heads Are Gonna Roll and the anthemic Heavy Duty, studio album #9 from Judas Priest will forever give me super Metal powers. Well, I think so, anyways.

Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance - classic cover promo - #3061

#3

SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE

There’s no denying that Screaming For Vengeance was my first album (vinyl) purchase of this amazing band. The first time I heard a Judas Priest song was You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ and I was transformed! The Hellion sent me over the Metal edge! I never heard anything that badass in my entire life! The rest is my being a Metalhead history. Thank you, thank you, Judas Priest. Thank you, again.

Judas Priest - British Steel - promo cover pic - #9094

#2

BRITISH STEEL

“Grinder, Looking for meat, Grinder, Wants you to eat”

Yes, even your neighbors grandmother knows the songs Living After Midnight  and Breaking The Law, however, it’s songs such as Grinder and Metal Gods that makes British Steel a beacon for Metal.

Judas Priest - Stained Class - promo cover pic - #7667

#1

STAINED CLASS

A 1978 release, Stained Class was ahead of its time. Really. Please name another Metal band that captured a Metal sound like this, back in 1978! You can’t! Black Sabbath’s Doom and Stoner Metal was the complete opposite! KISS, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Scorpions, Rainbow, Ted Nugent and Led Zeppelin were all too unique with entirely different sounds; so different in fact, that Judas Priest made everyone else in 1978 sound like Hard Rock bands. This was… METAL! A New Wave Of British Heavy Metal!

This Judas Priest album was a look into the future of Metal, as we all know and cherish it today. Without this era of Judas Priest, there would be NO Metallica or any of their 1980’s peers; I firmly believe that. A strong, lean and yet (never before heard) powerful album, lyrically oozing with a rabid bite that only Rob Halford could deliver vocally! Stained Class is my favorite Judas Priest album of all-time. Metal be thy name. – Stone

UNISONIC – New Video From Heavy Metal Supergroup Now Playing At Metal Insider; Band To Release “Light Of Dawn” Full-Length Via Armoury Records Next Month

Unisonic - Light Of Dawn - promo cover pic

Exceptional, the new video from Heavy Metal supergroup, UNISONIC, is currently playing at Metal Insider. The song comes by way of the band’s forthcoming new full-length, Light Of Dawn, set for release in North America next month.

UNISONIC boasts a royal lineup of former Helloween vocalist Michael Kiske and guitarist Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, also ex-Helloween) alongside guitarist Mandy Meyer (Asia, Gotthard, Krokus), bassist Dennis Ward and drummer Kosta Zafiriou (both of Germany’s Pink Cream 69).

Spring of 2014 saw UNISONIC produce the twelve new tunes that comprise sophomore offering, Light Of Dawn, all of them performed with surgical precision and punctuated by Kiske’s world-class vocals. “Our first world tour has really welded us together,” Kiske notes of the group’s unmistakable evolution. “The touring made us realize the importance of a congenial atmosphere for our creativity and how much I missed this team spirit over the past twenty years. Only musicians who feel really comfortable with each other can deliver their optimum performance.” Dennis Ward, a driving force within the unit, one of its main composers and as on 2012’s self-titled debut, its producer, agrees: “At the end of the day, you have to tour to get immediate fan reactions to your material. In this respect, the shows were very interesting and extremely encouraging. There’s no doubt that they gave UNISONIC enough energy to make working on Light Of Dawn child’s play for everybody involved.”

Metal Insider is currently offering up the first taste of the record with the fittingly named “Exceptional” video, viewable at THIS LOCATION.

CONVICTS TAKE ON CONGRESS

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, politics with tags , , , , , on July 9, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Corprit Convict - promo band pic - band logo - 2014 - #40084

On July 31, 2014, female-fronted, Heavy Metal band, Corprit Convict, is taking the message of their debut album, Come Clean, directly to the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. The message?  Remove money from politics. The band will be performing songs from the album, such as “3 Ring”, “Applicator” and “Left for Dead”, serving, themselves, as protest anthems and calling for change in our country.

“Campaign financing has become the single, biggest problem plaguing our country’s political landscape today. But it’s also the least discussed problem, because the only people who can effect real change on theses policies, or lack thereof, are the same group cashing the checks. Money talks in Washington and, right now, it’s screaming,” says singer, KT. “Americans cannot continue to stand idly by as the richest members of our country continue to buy our elections and control our public officials.”

In the Spring of this year, the US Supreme Court passed a ruling that will allow individuals and corporations to give up to $6 million to candidates and parties in a 2 year election cycle; nearly 50 times the limit before the ruling.

Supporters for the band can join them on the steps of the Congress on July 31 (last day of summer session).

GOATWHORE – Celebrates Record Release With A Special Meet And Greet At Grill ‘Em All; “Constricting Rage Of The Merciless” Out TODAY + Live Takeover Underway

Posted in metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 8, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Goatwhore - Grill 'Em All - promo band pic - 2014

Louisiana Metal miscreants, GOATWHORE, will celebrate the release of their mammoth Constricting Rage Of The Merciless full-length with a meet and greet next week at the world-famous Grill ‘Em All brick and mortar restaurant in Alhambra, California! The event will commence at 7:00 pm on Wednesday July 16th. Fans will get to hang with the band, hear the record in full as well as purchase a copy if they haven’t already. Additionally, Grill ‘Em All will add to the unholy revelry with special Constricting Rage Of The Merciless fries – Hand cut fries smothered in creole gumbo with chicken, smoked sausage, and shrimp! Come hungry.

On the following day in San Francisco, GOATWHORE will kick off a near month-long stretch of live incursions as part of The Summer Slaughter tour alongside Death Metal legends Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Fallujah and more!

Goatwhore - Constricting Rage Of The Merciless - promo cover

The band is currently slaying stages in support of Constricting Rage Of The Merciless, out TODAY on Metal Blade Records. Heaving forth ten mutinous tracks of thick, unadulterated, subterranean metal, Constricting Rage Of The Merciless isat once predatory, epic, misanthropic and sadistic. Inarguably GOATWHORE‘s most sonically consuming, meticulously executed manifestation of their catalog of chaos, the critical fuck yeahs from fans and media alike are literally flooding in. In an 8/10 score, Decibel Magazine crowns the record, “a blasphemous blast,” in a 9.5/10 rating, Dead Rhetoric christens it, “a masterful work of extreme metal,” while Headbangorgtfo.com dubs Constricting Rage Of The Merciless, “an instant classic,” awarding it a perfect 5/5.

Elsewhere, Metal Injection names it, the new high water mark of the group’s work thus far,” Planet Mosh commends GOATWHORE‘s seamless ability to fuse “everything from hyperspeed melodic black metal (reminiscent of underground guys like Noctuary), to thrash metal’s crunch, to death metal’s ‘kill first, ask questions later’ ethos,” furthering that, “polished, deliberate bayou evil permeates each well-crafted tune,” while Exclaim gushes in an 8/10 review, “GOATWHORE have always had the stench of brimstone about them, and their latest offering in no different, a vein of smoldering hatred for everything pure and good anchoring the record in a kind of ravenous decadence.” Killyourstereo agrees applauding, “an entirety evil and enticing record. The perfect use of vocal ranges from low and aggressive growls to higher notes further adds to the tone, while the dynamic changes and scattered guitar solos add some complexity.”

PIG HEART TRANSPLANT – Iron Lung-Related Industrial/No Wave Project To See Release Via 20 Buck Spin

Posted in extreme music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 8, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Pig Heart Trans

The second full-length of demolition from PIG HEART TRANSPLANT — the solo works of one Jon Kortland of Iron Lung – has been declared for release this September, as a conjoined release between 20 Buck Spin and the band’s own Iron Lung Records.

The alter ego of Jon Kortland, one half of surgical powerviolence duo, Iron Lung, PIG HEART TRANSPLANT delivers both a vicious beating and violent outcome, however the operating methodology is an entirely different animal; slow, churning, industrial, electronic, painfully percussive, a bureaucratic nightmare of State Power with gears grinding the individual into a hallow shell, perfectly molded into one of Them. This is 1984.

Kortland’s second opus, For Mass Consumption is composed of twenty-eight tracks, each approximately forty-four seconds long, each song bearing a four-letter word, structured in a perfectly palatable way for optimum group adoption and mindless adherence to common purpose. Electronic manipulation, no wave guitar noise, abrasive hammering and eerie synthetic ambiance imbue the listener with the seedy malaise of manipulation on a societal scale. One might recognize the pulverizing brutality of early Swans on tracks like “Film” or “Pigs,” the pulsing throb of Brighter Death Now and IRM on “Coma” or even Robert McNaugton’s soundtrack work for Henry: Portrait Of Serial Killer on “1970” or “1980.”

________________________________

For the first widespread preview of this aural torture, tune in to the fourth track from For Mass Consumption, “Born,” being broadcast from THIS LOCATION.

Undoubtedly a horrifying work of aural terror, PIG HEART TRANSPLANT‘s For Mass Consumption is the logical result of a culture bent on banal conformity and the futile struggle against its domination. 20 Buck Spin is pleased to bring this tormented future vision into the present in collaboration with Iron Lung Records. The album will storm North America first via 20 Buck Spin on September 2nd, followed days later on September 8th upon European populations. Vinyl and cassette editions will follow via Iron Lung Records shortly after.

New performances among the humans should be considered forthcoming, alongside additional previews of For Mass Consumption and more. Devotees of early Swans (early), SPK, Test Dept, Bastard Noise, Pharmakon, Godflesh and of course, Iron Lung, get hip to this one.

For Mass Consumption – Track Listing:

1. Drug, 2. Film, 3. Gift, 4. Born, 5. Male, 6. Numb, 7. Pigs, 8. Acts, 9. Pray. 10. Swim, 11. Thaw, 12. Coma, 13. Copy, 14. 1970, 15. Dirt, 16. Used, 17. Cuts, 18. City, 19. Line, 20. Home, 21. Scum, 22. Safe, 23. Half, 24. Edit, 25. Belt, 26. Mute, 27. Sold, 28. 1980

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall5

REAPER – German Metal legends REAPER have a new studio album releasing via Massacre Records, on July 25th, 2014. An Atheist Monument is this new album and it’s overflowing with ALL things grand about Heavy Metal! This new offering from REAPER has me psyched-out of my Metal mind; air guitar and air drums enthusiasts take notice! Powerful, melodic and laced with retro vibes and sounds of True Metal, REAPER has scored in a titanic way with An Atheist Monument.

Daniel Zimmermann (guitar) and Benjamin “Benni” Lodewig (guitar & backing vocals) are Metal sensations to take in; their muscular riffs, memorable leads and solos are Heavy Metal personified. Damn great stuff. Jan Breede (drums & backing vocals) plays the song and adds an incredible dynamic to this entire album; he’s a Metal treat to listen to. Matthias “Mäfju” Kraft (bass & backing vocals) adds his musical thunder and combined with Jan Breede’s drumming it’s a headbanging Metal experience to behold!

Reaper - promo band pic - 2014 - #8738

Daniel Zimmermann also is the lead vocalist and he sings like a Metal giant! His vocals are stuff of conquer all and death to the Metal posers. I believe my Metal brethren reading this know what I mean and it’s Metal truth.  Twelve delectable Heavy Metal songs are on the CD, with nine songs on the LP version. Hetoimasia is this album’s instrumental opener and it signals that the Metal power-surge is on! I just knew it was gonna be a great Metal ride upon my first listen and it only gets better with each Metal serving. Whoa.

Being their 5th studio album overall and first with Massacre Records, REAPER could not have found a better record label to call home. Celebrating their 30th anniversary on stage with this new album should catapult REAPER into our community’s Metal limelight; buying this mandatory Metal work and spreading the Metal word about REAPER should be on every Metalhead’s to-do list in 2014! REAPER waves the anti-religion flag with mega Metal potency and they have my Metal respect. Hail REAPER and Metal be thy name! – Stone

PROTOKULT – Progressive Folk Metal Band Reveal Artwork and Track Listing From Upcoming Album “No Beer In Heaven” – Out On August 8th

______________________________

Toronto, Ontario’s fun-loving, beer drinking progressive folk metal band PROTOKULT are proud to share with fans artwork and the track listing for their upcoming album ‘No Beer In Heaven’, set for official release on August 8th, 2014, to follow-up 2011’s EP ‘Marzena’ and 2009’s debut ‘Ancestral Anthems’.

“We are anxious and excited to finally unleash the first PROTOKULT full-length album with our current and talented lineup. Expect nothing short of pure, heathen prog-folk with a healthy traditional metal dosage in the mix. Our first single, ‘Get Me A Beer’ will be released early this July and expect the official video shortly thereafter! The video follows a story line which can be best described as “Spinal Tap meets folk-metal” and captures the band in an unpleasant, humorous yet all-too-realistic situation in which artists may find themselves in (we certainly have!)” – Martin Drozd

Years in the making and a few line up changes in the PROTOKULT camp, the Eastern European transplants have transformed progressive, folk and heavy metal influences into a twelve track adventurous trek, diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor. Mixing a duo vocal attack of melodic operatics, plus woodwinds from Ekaterina Pyatkova and high-spirited chanting growls from guitarist Martin Drozd, PROTOKULT showcase a diversified and powerful engagement that includes shredding with guitarist Vodnik, the pounding force of Mike Matveev on drums and the grooves of bassist Dawid Slowiak.

In additional news, PROTOKULT will be performing a Toronto CD release show on July 26th for hometown fans at Bovine Sex Club with support from locals Primalfrost, Tsargrad and Montreal’s Karkaos. (show details can found here)

Although PROTOKULT is a Canadian-based group, the members come from various backgrounds (Polish, Irish, Russian, Czech) and the result is a marvelous mix of Canadian and international forces. The goal is to unite these cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash and black metal for head-bangers everywhere.

With a beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal onslaught, whether they are reinventing the wheel or carrying down the torch high, PROTOKULT has an exhilarating and fresh sound for the 21st century.

From the studio to the stage, PROTOKULT puts on a live show that can be best described as engaging, energetic and in essence, a live ritual — ‘A must-see act’, according to the Emergenza festival.

‘No Beer In Heaven’ was recorded at Spectre Sound Studios (Bloodshoteye feat. Randy of Lamb of God; and Woods of Ypres, one of the BWBK Top 30 Canadian albums) and will be released August 8, 2014.

Critical Praise:

“They belong amongst the ranks of bands like Moonsorrow and Skyforger…Almost every song twists and turns through several folk metal transformations, without ever tapping into cheesy or overly tired clichés.” – Metal Observer (2010 review for Ancestral Anthems)

“Their songs pulse and writhe like a sinuous living thing.” – Exclaim (2012 review of Marzena)

SECRET CUTTER – Independent Debut LP From Pennsylvania Trio Destroys Everything

Posted in metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 4, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Secret Cutter - promo band pic - 2014 - #03202

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based trio, SECRET CUTTER, has independently released their debut full-length LP, Self Titled.

Following SECRET CUTTER‘s debut EP, If You Don’t Hate Yourself, You’re Not Paying Attention, released on Square of Opposition Records, now crawls forth in the form of Self Titled, the band’s first full-length release. With over twenty-six minutes of new material, fully produced by the band at drummer Jared Stimpfl’s Captured Recording Studios, a maelstrom of their most forceful songwriting, and eclectic, brutal musical dementia comes alive with ten vigorous tracks.

Self Titled has already been picked up by random popular media outlets, including MetalSucks, who freaked over the LP: “They’re taking what bands like Nails, Black Breath and The Body are doing and somehow making it even more visceral, even more intense.” About.com was fully blown by trio’s delivery, stating, “A three-piece shouldn’t sound this heavy, but Allentown, Pennsylvania’s SECRET CUTTER manages to pull off the impossible… If you have even an inkling of a grind or sludge gene in your DNA, you need to check these guys out.” Echoes And Dust described the album as “…heavy sludge/grind/doom that is judiciously laced with feedback and a bit of punk rock intensity. You won’t believe it but the band is a three-piece, with just a drummer, guitar player, and vocalist. Your jaw will be on the floor less than ten seconds into the first track.”

Secret Cutter - Self Titled - promo cover pic - 2014

Released through their own Bethlehem Rust label, Self Titled is available for digital download as well as LP, in three different colors of vinyl which all include a digital download is included.

Self Titled can be streamed in its entirety and purchased RIGHT HERE.

SECRET CUTTER is at once familiar, utilizing the unchained tactics of Deadguy or Converge but conveyed through a sludge-filled wall of sonic concentration in the ways of Eyehategod, Floor or Godflesh; yet their inimitable delivery is instantly infectious fully on its own accord. Their enraged, grimy anthems have devastated audiences across the East Coast. The meager three-piece, vocalist Ekim, drummer Jared Stimpfl and guitarist Evan Morey – packing a backline sufficient to power a band twice their size, delivering a live show as intense as their recorded material.

Stand by for further updates on SECRET CUTTER in the coming weeks as the band confirms new live assaults throughout the tri-state area and more.

Self Titled – Track Listing:

1. Mirror Mirror

2. Deformed Eye

3. 17.5 Dead Air

4. Craving the Silence

5. Vow of Poverty

6. Shake the Malevolent

7. Midtro

8. End of Sylvan

9. Headache Ball

10. Driftwood

ELECTRIC WIZARD UNVEIL “TIME TO DIE” AS TITLE OF FORTHCOMING STUDIO ALBUM – OFFICIAL ARTWORK REVEALED

Posted in metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 1, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Electric Wizard - Time To Die - promo cover pic - 2014

Above: Time to Die cover

LONDON, July 1, 2014 – Electric Wizard have announced Time to Die as the title of their forthcoming studio album. Time to Die is the eighth full-length offering from the masters of aural punishment and is testament to the fact that Electric Wizard continue to be the most uncompromisingly heavy, genuinely twisted and evil band in the world.

This will be the band’s first album release since signing a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records.

Says Electric Wizard founding member, Jus Oborn:

“All of our albums in the past have had a theme; revenge, drugs, black magic and the theme of this one is death. Of course, death to us really means rebirth, so this album is a manifestation of a very primal occult belief in the final sacrifice. We have gone full circle, it was inevitable but we had to do it. We had to kill the band so we could be reborn. It was the only way to ensure we could come back even stronger.”

The artwork, once again created by Oborn, is an extension of that theme; this is further solidified by the LP gatefold image, which will be revealed soon.

Electric Wizard, having just played Hellfest in France, have the following festival appearances lined up for 2014, with more shows to be added:

July 3 – Roskilde, Denmark @ Roskilde Festival (Arena Stage)

July 4 – Knebworth Park, UK @ Sonisphere (Stage headline)

August 16 – London, UK @ Jabberwocky (The Excel Centre)

September 12 – Valada, Portugal @ Reverence Valada (headline w/Hawkwind)

October 10 – 12 – Antwerp, Belgium @ Desert Fest

CANNIBAL CORPSE – American Death Metal Icons To Release “A Skeletal Domain” – New Track Posted + Preorder Packages Now Available

Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain - promo cover pic

Band To Kick Off Summer Tour As Part Of The Rockstar
Energy Drink Mayhem Festival

____________________________

American Death Metal icons, CANNIBAL CORPSE, are pleased to announce the release of their thirteenth full-length entitled A Skeletal Domain.

Lucky number thirteen? Lucky or not, it’s a quantity of releases (not even counting VHS/DVD releases and EPs) and a wealth of material beyond which most bands could even fathom. The CANNIBAL CORPSE collective – vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, bassist Alex Webster, guitarists Pat O’Brien and Rob Barrett and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz – approaches each recording session with a honed and precise vision of a band in their third decade of existence.

With this new entry to their extensive catalog, they’ve switched gears, opting to work with producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver) at Audio Hammer Studios, after having tracked their previous three outings (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture) with Erik Rutan. Boasting twelve-ominous tracks in forty-four spine-fraying minutes, the result is a massive, belligerent, and deliberate aural attack that finds the band at their peak of their notoriously hyper-kinetic, meticulously executed brutality.

Preparation for A Skeletal Domain did not vary significantly from previous efforts. “At the end of the day, we’re still making a death metal record, no matter where it’s being recorded,” relays Webster. Mark Lewis offered a slightly different, modern recording approach, but the band stressed that they could not be more pleased with their previous albums with Rutan, and the door is most definitely open to work with him again in the future. Changing producers is something the band has historically done after every few albums, if only to not get too comfortable. CANNIBAL CORPSE also tried to step outside of their comfort zone when it came to songwriting and their musical performances. “Consistency is often confused with repetition. We are established with what we do as a band, and we could relax and not push ourselves, but we try to push the envelope. That’s what makes this exciting,” Webster adds. “Anyone who really listens to this album with an open mind will hear that it’s not same-old same-old.” Mark Lewis would concur with Webster’s analysis and even goes a step further by claiming that “there are moments on this record that have never happened in musical history.”

Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain - promo cover pic

CANNIBAL CORPSE have proven time and again that they have more fuel in their tank, more riffs in their minds, and more ways to describe gore than any single group of human beings could ever have hoped. The thirteenth album will prove to be as important a landmark in their career as just about any other. CANNIBAL CORPSE are consistency defined.

A Skeletal Domain will be released in North America on September 16th, 2014 via Metal Blade Records. Point your browser to THIS LOCATION where you’ll witness the sonic trauma of second track, “Sadistic Embodiment” as well as a host of preorder bundles.

A Skeletal Domain Track Listing:

01. High Velocity Impact Spatter
02. Sadistic Embodiment
03. Kill Or Become

Set to commence on July 5th in San Bernardino, California, the annual mega tour will stampede its way across North America throughout July and much of August, coming to a close on August 10th in Woodland, Texas.

As an added bonus, CANNIBAL CORPSE will be doing daily signings at 3:00pm at their merch booth for the duration of the fest where Mayhem attendees can preorder A Skeletal Domain. Formed in Wheeling, West Virginia in 2011, BRIMSTONE COVEN churns a cogent blend of dark, smoky cult rock that echoes the eerie reverberations of hard rock icons such as Black Sabbath and Pentagram, mixed with the classic rock craftings of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, all the while preserving a vintage rock sound mixed with a style all their own. The outfit’s Metal Blade debut boasts seventeen mind-altering tracks of occult conjurings – a combo of their self-released full-length and EP — complete with new mastering and the vintage art renderings of Creighton Hill.

Described The Sludgelord of BRIMSTONE COVEN: “Coming across as Zeppelin meets ’70s Black Sabbath (the best kind), BRIMSTONE COVEN certainly have that vintage sound in spades, guitars are crisp, bass feels warm and drums played adeptly, with a looseness that only Messieurs Moon, Ward and Mitchell… are known for. Great stuff and what a voice; ‘Big John’ is quite the frontman with an endearing and rich tone… Killer.”

Brimstone Coven will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records on August 5th, 2014. In the meantime, zone out to the witchy, jam-wrangled goodness of fifth cut, “The Grave” at THIS LOCATION.
