Six Feet Under - Hell In July - promo flyer - 2013

SIX FEET UNDER are currently preparing for their next round of tour dates in support ofUnborn. As previously announced, Decrepit Birth and Cannabis Corpse will be joining them on this tour. Additionally, up-and-coming act Dealey Plaza will open the show. The tour begins July 10th in Houston  and VIP bundles are currently available via http://shop.soundcheckhollywood.com/collections/Hell-In-July-Tour . Bundles include a ticket to the show, SIX FEET UNDER shirt, a limited “Hell In July” poster, and a back stage pre-show hang with founding vocalist, Chris Barnes.

Comments Barnes: “Hello, all you sick fucks! Summer tours in the U.S. are always a blast, and this one is set up for sheer devastation with opening bands Decrepit Birth, Cannabis Corpse and Dealey Plaza! I would just like to take this time to say and send a personal message to those in Denver as well as Seattle: You may want to stock up and/or possibly grow twice as much cannabis as you have been, because once SFU and Cannabis Corpse roll into those towns, the sheer magnitude of smoking may – 1. Drain the cannabis supply of those two said cities or 2. Possibly cause low cloud formations. Fog lights should be used on all vehicles to and from the concert.

“On a side note, I’m super excited to have the opening band Dealey Plaza join us. They are a really killer new band and put on a ferocious live show. Drumming for Dealey Plaza is my nephew, Ryley Dipaola.  He beats the shit out of the drums, and it makes me really proud to have my nephew on the road with me! I’m more proud than I can say about that, so I hope everyone will come out to the shows and support all these great musicians and great bands that are on tour with us this summer for Hell In July! And we will see everyone else real soon! Lots more tour dates to be announced in the coming months, so stay sick and twisted!”

Six Feet Under - Unborn - promo cover pic!

As reported on the official facebook of SIX FEET UNDER:

“The journey to create, write, and record UNDEAD and UNBORN has been the most challenging and exciting musical endeavor and process I have ever been involved with,” expresses vocalist and founder Chris Barnes. “Working with all these amazing writers and musicians like Ben Savage (Whitechapel) on songs like Neuro Osmosis and Fragment are some of the most dynamic, beautiful, and brutal songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of putting lyrics to. I believe Ben is a true innovator of the death metal genre. It was also a lot of fun working Jari Laine from Torture Killer again. We wrote a great album together a few years back called SWARM! –one of my favorite releases I’ve been involved with– and Jari is someone who I have really wanted to work with again ever since. I wanted to revisit collaborating with Jari because of how well we work together; proof of that on UNBORN are the hook heavy sounds of songs like Zombie Blood Curse and Incision.” – Chris Barnes

SIX FEET UNDER – Announce Tour With Cattle Decapitation And Wretched

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on September 11, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Death Metal legends SIX FEET UNDER will be embarking on a headlining tour this Fall. The Chris-Barnes-named Autumn Apocalypse Tour will include label mates CATTLE DECAPITATION as well as Death Metal newcomers, Wretched. The journey will commence on October 30 and run through the first half of November, with the full routing available below.

Chris Barnes

Led by the inimitable Chris Barnes, possessor of one of the most dominant and instantly recognizable voices of the Death Metal genre, SIX FEET UNDER now features new guitarist Ola Englund, longtime guitarist Steve Swanson, new bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Kevin Talley, whose history blasting for Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and Chimaira speaks for itself. SIX FEET UNDER 2012 finds the band reinvigorated and churning out some of the most visceral, in-your-face, and downright horrifying tunes in their renowned discography of brutality both lyrically and musically.

Said Decibel Magazine off the band’s recently-unleashed Undead full-length: “This is the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence… [Chris Barnes] hasn’t sounded this focused or committed in years.” Listen and order at:

http://www.metalblade.com/sixfeetunder.

CATTLE DECAPITATION‘s 11-track album, Monolith Of Inhumanity, is an achievement that stands out as one of the most volatile, ambitious, and impossible-to-pigeonhole records of 2012. Commended by Stereokiller for being ”their most focused and intelligent album yet… this is another solid CATTLE DECAP release that proves again that they are not to be fucked with,” and noted for being ”arguably the quartet’s strongest effort to date,” by Blistering, the record was produced by Dave Otero of Denver’s Flatline Audio and finds the progressive grind conjurers exploring innovative new techniques in song writing without abandoning their signature formula of confrontational audio wreckage. Be sure to check out the band’s latest video for “Kingdom Of Tyrants” HERE.

In related news, Barnes recently talked to Decibelmagazine.com about the legalizing marijuana, hypocrisy, smoking rituals and other weedian topics in a special Independence Day post. Check it out HERE.

SIX FEET UNDER – Welcome New Guitarist; “Undead” Drops Today!

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on May 22, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Band To Embark Upon 18 Nights Of Blood Tour Next Month

Death Metal ministers SIX FEET UNDER today announces the addition of rhythm guitarist Ola Englund to their legendary ranks. Englund, who will make his first official appearance with the band on the 18 Nights Of Blood Tour set to commence next month, takes the place of Rob Arnold.

Comments founding vocalist Chris Barnes of the new recruit:  “Ola is an amazing guitarist and was chosen for his superlative technique and style of playing. We believe he will be the perfect complement to Steve Swanson, and the devastating rhythm section that is Talley/Hughell. Steve, Kevin, Jeff and myself are so looking forward to Ola’s entrance into the band upon the release of Undead and the commencement of our first tour next month with Dying Fetus and Revocation. We can’t wait for you to witness the new killing machine that is SIX FEET UNDER! Ola takes over duties for our good friend and death metal warrior Rob Arnold who will be retiring from touring but will remain a central writing partner and fellow collaborator on future SFU releases. We are all sad to not have Rob on the road with us, but are confidant and 110% psyched that Ola is now within the ranks of the Undead and will be ready to lay waste to every stop along the way! Hails!”

Adds Englund: “When I got the call from Chris, it felt unreal; first thing that popped up in my head was, ‘why the hell did he want me — the total gear nerd from Sweden — to join his awesome band? To be able to share the stage with one of the biggest icons in Death Metal and the other killer musicians in SFU is a complete honor and a dream come true for me. I couldn’t be happier about the situation! Also the new album blew my mind the first time I heard it, it’s intense as hell, but still has the riffs and the grooves that SIX FEET UNDER swears by. Fans are going to love it! I’m looking forward to kick some serious ass together with Chris, Kevin, Steve and Jeff! See you on tour!”

Check out video footage documenting Englund’s guitar skills at THIS LOCATION.

Undead was officially released in North America today via Metal Blade Records. Called “the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence,” in a recent 8/10 review by Decibel Magazine, the record was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver), mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy) and features the recording line up of Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira).

To celebrate its release SIX FEET UNDER will slaughter souls on a near three-week run of live ceremonies this June. The 18 Nights Of Blood Tour will begin in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8. Support will be provided by Dying Fetus and Revocation.

SIX FEET UNDER – Unveil First Single From Forthcoming “Undead” Studio Offering

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

Legendary Death Metal legion SIX FEET UNDER today unveils the first single from forthcoming studio offering, Undead. Slated for North American release on May 22, 2012 through Metal Blade Records, the 12-track recording was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver) and mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy), at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida.

Led by the inimitable Chris Barnes, possessor of one of the most dominant and instantly recognizable voices of the Death Metal genre, Undead offers up an overhauled lineup. Now featuring Barnes alongside new guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson, new bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Kevin Talley, whose history blasting for Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and Chimaira speaks for itself. SIX FEET UNDER 2012 finds the band reinvigorated and churning out some of the most visceral, in-your-face, and downright horrifying tunes in their renowned discography of brutality both lyrically and musically.

Comments vocalist/Death Metal ambassador Chris Barnes of the recording: “I’m in pretty much the best headspace I’ve been in since myself and [former guitarist] Allen West started this band in 1993. I’m super excited about the new record. It’s a rejuvenation; it’s a rebirth of SIX FEET UNDER, and fans will definitely latch on to my excitement and how focused I am in the lyrics I’ve written… The hypocrisies of daily life, things that affect us that spawn aggression, loneliness, sadness, there’s a lot of emotions going on across the record and I guess that the dark horror that humans cause is my niche.”

Gore your ears to the violent sounds of “Formaldehyde” at THIS LOCATION, where you can also view the record’s maniacal Dusty Peterson cover art and pre-order options.

SIX FEET UNDER – 3 Song Sampler Review Of Forthcoming Album ‘UNDEAD’

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on March 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SIX FEET UNDER – I’ve recently smothered my eardrums in a three song sampler of the forthcoming Six Feet Under album (Metal Blade Records) that’s titled: Undead. The three songs are: Formaldehyde, Days and Frozen At The Moment Of Death. I’ll tell all my fellow Death Metal brethren now… get ready… cause if these three songs are any deadly indication, then, this soon to be released Undead album is gonna kick your Death Metal lovin’ asses to hell and back.

Chris Barnes has never sounded more brutal on vocals and his Six Feet Under band have unleashed 100% lethal Death Metal with Formaldehyde. Mean as hell. The riffs, the bludgeoning bass and drums, the whole damn F’n 100 yards of Death Metal fury, is all set afire by Six Feet Under, on all three songs. My Metal impression is: Six Feet Under are back in 2012 to reaffirm they are a Death Metal force to be duly reckoned with.

Still maintaining an authoritative Death Metal groove on each song, Six Feet Under instills that “underground” feel and vibe as well. So incredibly heavy are these three songs that it is nearly hallucinating. I’ll have to tell you, after listening to these new Six Feet Under songs, I want this entire album now! I don’t give a damn about how many blisters my eardrums get, from the singing Death Metal assault that this band administers. Hell no.

In my Metal opinion, Undead is gonna be a mammoth Death Metal milestone for Six Feet Under. Hell yeah it’s gonna be. Metal. Be. Thy. Name.

SIX FEET UNDER – Announce New Bassist!

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on February 14, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Jeff Hughell, former bassist for Brain Drill & Vile, has been chosen as new SFU bassist!

Within days of announcing the departure of Matt DeVries, SIX FEET UNDER has locked in the latest addition to the bands already heavy and extremely talented lineup. Seven-string bassist Jeff Hughell, formerly of the Santa Cruz California technical Death Metal band Brain Drill and Concord California Death Metal band Vile, will be joining the ranks as the new SIX FEET UNDER bassist. Check out a video of Jeff shredding on his bass HERE.

______________________________________________________________________
Vocalist Chris Barnes comments; “Six Feet Under is proud to announce our new member, bass player Jeff Hughell. He’s an amazing musician and I have been a fan of his work since first hearing Brain Drill a few years back. We feel with the addition of Jeff, all the puzzle pieces are in place and the killing machine known as Six Feet Under is now a true Death Metal force to be reckoned with! Prepare to be toe tagged and body bagged.”

______________________________________________________________________
Jeff Hughell adds; “I am honored to be the newest edition to the mighty Six Feet Under. This band is now a well oiled killing machine with Kevin Talley and myself as the rhythm section, Steve Swanson and Rob Arnold crushing guitars, and of course the man himself Chris Barnes killing it on vocals. The new material is the heaviest Six Feet Under songs I have ever heard and I can’t wait for the world to get their faces melted clean off by it. I would like to thank Mike Faley, Kelli Malella and the whole Six Feet Under family for thinking of me. It’s going to be one hell of a ride!”

DENIAL FIEND “They Rise” – Horror Metal With Bludgeoning Grooves From 2007

Posted in Heavy Metal, Music, Death Metal, rock music, horror metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal music, metal music, extreme music, death metal music, extreme metal music, metal odyssey, heavy metal bands, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 21, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

DENIAL FIENDThey Rise, released back on October 16, 2007, on Ibex Moon Records, is as perfect a recommendation for your Horror Metal listening pleasure this Halloween season as any. The Death Metal growls, groans, gurgles and screaming are intertwined so fantastically with the sounds of spurting blood and vomiting, on this exceptionally horrific album. Listening to They Rise actually spooks me out more than watching any Exorcist sequel. (The original Exorcist movie was and always will be scary-bad-ass for me).

Denial Fiend, (calling Valrico, Florida their home base), takes the Horror Metal/Death Metal combination to the maximum and they don’t allow a millisecond for you to catch your breath or check your pulse. Maybe you can try to do this between songs, only I don’t recommend it, just kick back and enjoy the bludgeoning drumming, chugging and riffing while the Death Metal grooves pummel you senseless. This veteran “supergroup” of Extreme Horror and Death Metal, should hopefully realize they have made an album that is sure to be a cult favorite for dark ages to come. Metal be thy name, They Rise kicks some serious Horror Metal ass.

Which song on They Rise is my Metal favorite you query? It’s a no brainer… Return To The Tombs Of The Cursed Blind Dead, of course. Just the song title alone is a winner in my Metal book. I actually find myself singing along to this Extreme and groove saturated, Horror Metal gem.  The chorus that belts out this song title leaves me in Metal awe, in that it just sounds so damn good to thine ears. Flesheater is no slouch song either. Heavy, fast and brutally Heavy again is Flesheater, what more can I say?

There is a hint of Horror Punk within the framework of Denial Fiend’s Death Metal assault. Gang vocal chanting with a nod to vintage Misfits is common amongst this album, with Flesheater, The Day Of The Undead and They Rise as examples. Blazing guitar leads are abundant, with Cover Me In Blood having plenty of them. The guitar solo that is heard in Cover Me In Blood is the stuff of Old School Death Metal-take it or leave it carnage. Ripped Inside Out is just freaking scary. Metal be thy name. “I Ripped You Inside Out”! Whoa. Plus, as an Extreme bonus, the sounds of gore does rear it’s heinous head within this song too. Whoa again.

The same appalling and nightmarish subject matter that box office Slasher films boast are on They Rise… the only difference being the lack of any macabre and grotesque “visual” effects. Who cares about visual effects anyways, when you can listen to Denial Fiend. In all Metal honesty, I’d rather listen to They Rise than watch a bunch of actors in a Slasher film… (I do get squeamish at gross visual effects sometimes). Listening to Horror Metal and Death Metal is an acquired taste I have developed over many years, I just don’t understand why I still have to watch a Friday The 13th sequel with one eye closed… go figure.

Frankenstein Conquers The World is a whirlwind of Horror Metal… fun. (Gasp), did I just use the word “fun” in reviewing They Rise? I sure did and the lyrics to Frankenstein Conquers The World are to blame. It’s a great song that’s built on a full-scale blitz of Death Metal grooves, resulting in an instantly memorable listen for me. Let The Blood Flow starts off with a chain saw revving up… then the nightmare from hell begins and that’s a Horror/Death Metal compliment. Whoa, this song is F’n heavy, I really don’t know any other way to describe it. I can’t get all academic on reviewing Denial Fiend’s They Rise album… I don’t think this band would want it that way either.

The Day Of The Undead puts the bloody lid on They Rise, with plenty of saluting to the living dead happening. Good stuff. “It’s the day of the undead, it’s the end of everything”… good stuff again. As this song comes to a close, an eerie warning of “the dead coming back to life” and the precautionary measures that should be taken is heard, from a news broadcasters concerned voice… a creepy vibe spills all over the place as I listen to it. An undisputed creepy vibe at that. This song could and should be included on a major motion picture soundtrack for a Living Dead sequel. There, I’ve made my Horror Metal appeal to Hollywood.

In the end, Denial Fiend does accomplish two things: 1. their songs lyrics do send shivers up and down my Metal spine and 2. they play some very damn good Horror/Death Metal with unrelenting and Extreme Heaviness. Extreme, Horror and Death Metal fans should be able to wrap their ears around Denial Fiend and their 2007 album They Rise without a wince. Old School Hardcore and Thrash Metal fans are invited to check out Denial Fiend’s They Rise as well… there’s plenty of speed and heaviness to go around. Happy Halloween… all you ghoulish Metalheads!
