CROSS EXAMINATION – Revolver Magazine Deploys New Track From Saint Louis Crossover Brigade

Cross Examination - Dawn Of The Dude - promo cover pic - 2014

Revolver Magazine is now hosting an exclusive stream of the latest high-octane Thrash/Hardcore output from Saint Louis, Missouri-based awesome party squad, CROSS EXAMINATION.

Closing a six-year gap between releases, CROSS EXAMINATION comes out flailing and impaling with the rabid Dawn Of The Dude EP, bridging influences from Cryptic Slaughter, Nuclear Assault, Excel, D.R.I. and the like into a rabid, high-caliber, circle-pit whirlwind comparable to Ramming Speed, SSS and Power Trip. What’s the last thing to go through a fly’s mind as it hits your windshield? Its ass. And that’s about the same impact this EP will have on the listener.

Sliced from the meaty seven-track slab of crossover contamination, “Hail To The Jeef,” is today exclusively being served up by Revolver Magazine; get some at THIS LOCATION.

The EP’s closing track, “The Dawn Of The Dude,” is also playing below:

Chicago-based Organized Crime Records will unload the Dawn Of The Dude via 7″ vinyl and digital download on August 19th, with distribution through Revelation Records. Preorders will be live this week at the label’s website HERE.

Formed in 2004, in their first four years as a band CROSS EXAMINATION wasted the masses with a plethora of auditory evidence, including their initial demo, a split with Spring Break!, their raging 2006 The Hung Jury EP and their 2008 debut full-length, Menace II Sobriety, the latter two titles via Organized Crime Records. This first new output since their LP is quite possibly their most scathing, grey-matter-reducing sonic beating yet.

The seven new tracks contained on the Dawn Of The Dude barely hitting thirteen minutes, the EP still packs more balls and bong-rips than virtually any comparable contemporary groups. Your brains will simply leak from your blown-open ear canals as you bang your head’s filler into fluid to the perpetually rabid beats, the material featuring even more rasping, schizoid/hyper vocals and a pummeling crusty edge.

BATTLECROSS – Thrash Metal Battalion Confirms Summer Headlining Tour

Posted in metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on June 20, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Battlecross - Crimson Shadows - Summer 2014 - Tour Promo Flyer

American Thrash Metal battalion, BATTLECROSS, has confirmed a short run of Summer headlining dates with Canada’s Wacken Battle winners, Crimson Shadows, and New York’s IKILLYA. Set to commence on July 23rd in Columbus, Ohio, the short but ravaging trek will topple fourteen cities followed by an appearance at Michigan’s Dirt Fest as well as additional tour dates supporting Killswitch Engage.

Comments guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala, “We’re excited to announce our first headlining run in quite a while. It’s short but sweet, and this gives us time to write the new record this Summer. We are stoked to have our Canadian brothers, Crimson Shadows, joining us. We did a short run with those guys earlier this year and they’re a great live band and have an awesome record coming out next Fall.”

After two busy Summers on the 2012 Trespass America tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Killswitch Engage and Trivium, the 2013 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and Metallica’s Orion Festival, BATTLECROSS looks forward to some downtime prior to their South American run with Killswitch Engage when they’ll begin to compose the follow-up to their Metal Blade-released War Of Will full-length.

Battlecross - War Of Will - promo cover pic - 2013

Dubbed “one hell of a modern-day thrash album,” by Headbangorgtfo.com, War Of Will debuted at #134 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #118 on the Top Current Albums chart, and #2 on the Heatseekers chart. BATTLECROSS is currently traversing Europe on a series of festival appearances including Download Festival and the Graspop Metal Meeting, plus club shows with Huntress and Lacuna Coil.

Guitarist Tony Asta says, “The past year has been very inspiring for the band and our attitude towards the writing process this time around is more confident and driven. I expect our next album to kick you in the ass harder than the last. Album number three will be a serious contender in 2015 and a defining BATTLECROSS record.”

Unspeakable Axe Records To Release ALGEBRA’s “Feed The Ego” On Sept. 2nd, 2014

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on June 11, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Algebra - Feed The Ego - promo cover pic

Unspeakable Axe Records has announced the September 2nd release of Feed the Ego, from Swiss thrashers ALGEBRA.

ALGEBRA is superficially an unusual moniker for a thrash band, calling to mind mathematical precision and maybe pencil-snapping frustration rather than the blitzkrieg attack of Slayer, et al. But as one absorbs Swiss thrash machine ALGEBRA’s music, the name makes increasingly more sense. Both the math and the anger are here – the former in the unreasonably tight playing, complex riffs and spiraling lead work; and the latter in the lyrics, which tackle all manner of modern-day frustrations.

Take for example the opening track “Survival Nowadays.” Over a pummeling riff assault reminiscent of Sepultura, Testament, Coroner and more, the gruff vocalist barks about what life in 2014 has done to humankind. And it’s not a pretty picture. We are soft, we are lazy, we are complacent. The song is criticism honed to a knife’s edge. It would be hard to swallow if it didn’t sound so damn good.

The aforementioned “Survival Nowadays” can be heard below:

ALGEBRA’s debut album was self-released in 2012 and reissued by Stormspell Records afterward. Now they will follow that up with their sophomore effort. Feed The Ego satiates thrash-hungry listeners with nine aggressively complicated calculations, all mixed and mastered by Andy Classen. Unspeakable Axe Records will release this album on September 2nd, 2014.

ANTHRAX – ANNOUNCE TOUR REPLACEMENT FOR DRUMMER CHARLIE BENANTE

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 7, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Anthrax - Big Eyes - cover promo pic

Jon Dette will fill in for drummer Charlie Benante on the first few weeks of ANTHRAX’s 29-city European tour that kicked off May 27, in Barcelona, Spain and runs until July 12 in Balingen, Germany. Benante, who had surgery on his hand last summer and has been going for regular physical therapy up until just recently, thought he’d be back to 100% for the Carolina Rebellion and Beale Street Music Festival shows that ANTHRAX also did earlier this month.

“Playing those shows, I realized I’m just not quite there yet,” Charlie said, “especially for the schedule ANTHRAX has on these European dates. I’m hoping to join the tour for the last couple of weeks, but until then, we all appreciate that Jon can sit in for me.”

Benante plans to be drumming on ANTHRAX’s handful of North American dates later this summer that include Heavy MTL in Montreal and the MOTÖRHEAD Motorboat Cruise set for late September with MOTÖRHEAD, MEGADETH, Zakk Wylde and others. Following these dates, ANTHRAX will enter the studio to write and record their follow-up to 2011’s Grammy-nominated Worship Music, named “Metal Album of the Year” by fans and in media outlets across the globe.

Stone notes: Jon Dette is also a former drummer of Slayer and Testament; he has also toured as a member of Iced Earth, to name just a few.
