On This Day In METAL History – April 12th… From Bill Haley And His Comets To Ozzy Osbourne
On April 12th, 1954 – Bill Haley And His Comets recorded (We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock for Decca Records. The rest is Rock and eventual Metal history, folks.
On April 12th, 1975 – SWEET had their huge hit Fox On The Run reach #2, in the UK.
On April 12th, 1977 – The iconic LED ZEPPELIN performed at the Met Center, in Bloomington, Minnesota. Whoa!
On April 12th, 1986 – OZZY OSBOURNE performed at the Johnstown War Memorial (Arena), in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Special Guest was: METALLICA. Pretty cool stuff, huh? By the way, this venue is now known as: Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
I was fortunate to see OZZY and METALLICA on this tour, at the New Haven Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut. This was OZZY‘s The Ultimate Sin Tour. It was good Metal times!
On April 12th, 2002 – The super legendary OZZY OSBOURNE received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Ozzy’s star is located in front of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum at 6780 Hollywood Boulevard. Yup.

Lot of great memories of shows at the New Haven Coliseum!! Saw many concerts there with my brother, cousin and good friends… The only thing I didn’t like was that spiral parking garage – going up or coming down! But going up the huge escalator was always a blast with everyone yelling and getting pumped up for the show!

Yeah, I’ll 100% agree with you, Mike! The inside of that Coliseum was creepy, I’ve always said the ceiling looked evil with all those air ducts, like a backdrop to a science fiction film. I never took the elevator from the parking garage… no way, no how!
You ROCK, Mike! 🙂 \m/\m/

I saw Ozzy with Metallica at the Philadelphia Spectrum in April 1986. Christ, it’s coming up to the 30th anniversary, boy does time fly! The concert was spectacular but the most memorable event was outside before the concert. It was the first concert I went to where us concert goers were being preached to and condemned to hell by Jesus freaks.

Yeah, those were the days when many, many, many dummies thought Ozzy was the most evil dude on planet Earth! LOL!!
