TOAD - large band logo - #2

Phoenix, Arizona’s Black ‘n’ Roll Death miscreants TOAD (Take Over And Destroy) are readying to unleash their long-anticipated Endless Night LP. Featuring five cold, cavernous, groove-strewn hymns of chaos and disillusion, the initial scripting process of Endless Night was plagued by various bouts of misfortune including lost rehearsal spaces, run-ins with the law, crippling illness and death. However through perpetual negativity came a primal, disordered source of motivation. Indeed, the malevolent energy captured on Endless Night has inarguably resulted in the band’s most sincerely powerful and cryptically profound output to date.

Endless Night was captured by returning producer/engineer Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Recording in Mesa, Arizona who worked with the band previously on their mammoth Rotten Tide EP and offers up a strikingly grim cover by Sean R. Williams (Animetalphysical) viewable HERE.

Comments the band in a collective statement:  “Night time evokes conflicting reactions within the human psyche. As primitive man witnessed the sunset he felt intrigued and thrilled, but most importantly he felt afraid. His terror served to protect him from the chaos and danger of the unknown. The same animalistic fear of the dark remains within us today, though it has migrated into the subconscious. Endless Night exploits both our aversion and attraction to the darkness. Recorded over the course of a full moon and All Hallow’s Eve of 2012, these songs swirl and creep with sinister melodies, then strike with violent hooks. The album is simultaneously exciting and permeating with horror. Our ancestors relied upon the warmth and light of fire to guard them at night. This record captures the dread of that fire being extinguished forever.”

Endless Night serves as the follow-up to the Rotten Tide EP, released independently in 2012. Called “angry, loud and wonderfully brash,” by This Is Not A Scene and fittingly commended for coming off like “the bastard son of Entombed with its spit-in-your-eye attitude and brash swagger,” by The Sleeping Shaman, TOAD is currently preparing for a worldwide takeover. Stay tuned for live rituals and further band related announcements.

In the meantime, preorder Endless Night, which comes in 180 gram vinyl with a gatefold layout at THIS LOCATION (Preorders come accompanied by various exclusive pieces of TOAD propaganda; you have been warned.)

“It’s rough and raw, whilst managing to sound decently produced…it grooves, it has dark psychedelia, it’s catchy, it’s unhinged; there is a mash-up of punk, black metal, crazy treble picking, utterly abrasive and yet catchy.” – The Sleeping Shaman

TOAD – Arizona Metallers Issue Tour Recap; Band Prepares Forthcoming EP

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on April 8, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Arizona Metal militia TOAD has returned to its homeland of Phoenix, after a two-week migration through the Rocky Mountains and across the southern United States. To say TOAD‘s journey was a success would be an understatement. Old friends were revisited, new allies were formed, and TOAD‘s rotten gospel was delivered on a nightly basis to receptive congregations.

Upon their return to the desert, TOAD immediately delved back into the writing process in preparation for the next album. TOAD‘s new music is an expansion and improvement upon the themes prevalent in last year’s Rotten Tide, which continues to reap critical acclaim from critics and fans alike. These latest songs are the results of a more mature, driven, and aggressive band. Once the record is finished, TOAD plans on continuing its Eastern expansion to the Atlantic coast, and beyond. Take Over And Destroy.

In the meantime, check out live footage from the band’s stop in Fayetteville, Arkansas last month at THIS LOCATION.

A maniacal six-piece, TOAD formed in 2008 and has rapidly evolved into a complex entity. TOAD‘s sound is hardly definable but rather a divine amalgamation of and elaboration upon all things heavy within the last four decades of rock music. Though obviously influenced by the Scandinavian Death and Black Metal movements of the 1990s, the band ensures that every song pulsates with the groove established by Metal’s forefathers – bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

With the addition of former Slut Sister and Drone Throne guitarist Alex Bank Rollins, and the replacement of original guitarist Danny Labarbera by former Queen Beast member Nate Garrett, the band has solidified a group that is road-ready and unstoppable in both its creative output and self-promotion. Rounding out the lineup are original members Andy Leemont on vocals, Shane Taylor on drums, Trey Edwin on bass, and Pete Porter on organ. TOAD strive to be at the forefront of the progression of the genre.

TOAD – Arizona Metal Miscreants Announce March 2012 Tour

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on February 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Phoenix, Arizona Metal miscreants TOAD are set to embark on a live takeover next month. The punishment will begin on March 2 in Tempe and wind its way through 15 cities before coming to a ceremonial close in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The band will be joined by a host of eclectic bands throughout the tour including Lo-Pan, Sons Of Tonatiuh, Black Market Ministry and more.

Commented the band in a collective statement: “TOAD has long been preparing for this moment, and the time has finally come. This journey will lead us into uncharted territory and will spark the widespread corruption of anyone and everyone that is either willing or unfortunate enough to participate. We are confident that this experience will be only the beginning of the debauchery and mayhem that is yet to come.”

TOAD — short for “Take Over And Destroy” — will be touring in support of their criminally underrated five-track Rotten Tide EP, self-released last year. Flaunting a fully analog recording, the monolithic offering was produced by Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Recording and features the exclusive use of vintage gear from the ‘60s and ‘70s to create “a true rock ‘n’ roll sound.” An underground masterwork of sorts, Rotten Tide has created a stir amongst scene diehards in the know. Said Metal Storm in a 9.4/10 review: “It’s got that raw, grooving Rock n Roll appeal that you’ll find with the likes of Bison B.C. combined with the grim psychedelic feel offered by few others than Nachtmystium.”

Added The Sleeping Shaman: “Rotten Tide comes across like the bastard son of Entombed with its spit-in-your-eye attitude and brash swagger. It’s rough and raw, whilst managing to sound decently produced…it grooves, it has dark psychedelia, it’s catchy, it’s unhinged; there is a mash-up of Punk, Black Metal, crazy treble picking, utterly abrasive and yet catchy.” The Obelisk agreed: “Rotten Tide blends a variety of styles from bombastic Hardcore Metal to post-Mastodonic technicality, and — perhaps most curiously of all — a preference for analog recording that’s almost entirely absent from the larger scope of Modern Metal. “
