JUDGEMENT DAY – Sign With minus Head Records; “POLAR SHIFT” Set For July 31st Release

Judgement Day, the Oakland based trio that NPR described as “a mix of Progressive Rock and Classical with strings played through distortion pedals and other effects”, have signed on with the eclectic Bay Area label minus Head Records for a July 31 release of Polar Shift.
The band made waves with their 2010 release Peacocks/Pink Monsters, a record Time Out Chicago said “not only spans genres but does away with them altogether… the new school of classical-thrash has its poster boys” and was affectionately dubbed “string metal” by fans and critics. Following an album cycle that included tours with Dredg, Mates of State and Pinback the band retreated to a Sea Ranch, Calif. cabin to begin work on what would become Polar Shift.
“On this album, we wanted to see if we could make something with unfiltered violin and cello sounds that fits with drums and still rocks as hard as a guitar album does,” explained Anton Pantzer, violinist and songwriter for Judgement Day. What followed was a twenty-day recording session in an isolated wooden room with uniquely vaulted ceilings lending an incredible sound to the fourteen-track release. “It was nice to be away from society and have the opportunity to solely concentrate on music. We really tapped into something special.
Judgement Day is brothers Anton and Lewis Patzner (Lewis plays cello) with Jon Bush on drums.
