CUTTHROAT just returned home following a month of European shows just in time to celebrate today’s release of their new EP, The Purge.

Cutthroat just finished an amazing tour with Vio-lence. We made a lot of new friends and partied with old ones,” details vocalist Neil Roemer. “It was exciting to play in front of new metal crowds and then win them over night after night. The band is on a new level, right in line with the new release and new heavier sound.

That sound can be heard on the latest emphasis track and EP’s  opening cut “Hard Times,” watch the music video HERE: https://youtu.be/xyh2m1tUpjY?si=xjeSvKaVC7ucynS0

Something that is more common than ever today. Hard times!” states Neil.  “However, hard times do not define us. They actually show us what we are made of and what we are willing to do to make it through.

Hard Times” follows an earlier clip for the single “Purge” https://youtu.be/xa1-SuC6XAg?si=fvu6d00SUZRnlHjP

The new EP, The Purge, is available on all streaming/download digital platforms, as well as physically on jewelcase CD and limited-edition (300) ‘Purge the System’ colored vinyl. AUTUMNFALL – The Fall of the Leafe Legacy Returns Through Finnish Melodic Black Metal on: The Archaic Sins

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on August 21, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Finnish melodic black metal veterans AUTUMNFALL will return on September 25th, 2026 with their new album, The Archaic Sins, to be released by Ardua Music. Continuing the path established by their previous work, the album revisits material originally composed decades ago, yet demonstrates how naturally these songs can still impose themselves in the present day.

The first single “Lightless Depths” is now streaming HERE

Formed in Finland in 2019 by Jussi Hänninen, best known as the primary songwriter of Fall of the Leafe between 1996 and 2007, AUTUMNFALL emerged as a continuation of the musical sensibility that characterized the earlier years of that influential band. Joined by vocalist Tero RuohonenHänninen has developed the project into a vehicle for revisiting old ideas while giving them renewed shape and purpose.

Following Ghosts of Light (2021), Bleak (2022) and The Archaic Shadows (2024), The Archaic Sins once again draws heavily from the past. With just one completely new composition, the album is primarily built around songs written between 1998 and 2001, now brought into the present through fresh arrangements and performances.

The result is fluid, finely arranged melodic black metal that never needs grand gestures to make its impact. AUTUMNFALL weave melodies together continuously, allowing guitars and rhythms to move with a natural, unforced sense of progression. The music can evoke wonder one moment and bitterness the next, shifting between emotional shades without ever disrupting its graceful flow.

Carefully considered rhythmic patterns provide a solid foundation for compositions that remain loose and organic, while the constant interplay of melodies gives the album its distinctive character. There is an unmistakable sense of musicians who have spent decades understanding how songs work, knowing when to add detail and, just as importantly, when to let an idea breathe.

Whether described as melodic extreme metal, dark metal or simply AUTUMNFALLThe Archaic Sins offers a sound rooted in experience, melody and atmosphere: material from another era that finds an unexpectedly natural home in the present.

Track-list:

  1. Halo In Utopia
  2. Lightless Depths
  3. Dark Goddess
  4. Mists of Eternity

Italian Thrashers HELLMETALL Unleash New Video For Title Track “Mgla” From Upcoming Album On September 4, 2026

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on August 20, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Italian Thrash/Death Metal band HELLMETALL has released the official video for “Mgła“, the title track of their forthcoming album, due out on September 4th2026 via Rockshots Records.

Originally released as a single on January 31st, 2026, “Mgła” introduced the darker direction of the band’s new material. Now, the song takes on a visual dimension through a video created and directed by Chiara Bettiga, translating its sombre atmosphere and historical subject into images. To date, “Mgła” is the only official video made for the record.

Meaning “fog”, “Mgła” draws inspiration from one of the darkest episodes of the First World War on the Italian-Austro-Hungarian front. The song recalls the gas attacks carried out by Austro-Hungarian and German forces against Italian soldiers during the battle near Plezzo, today Bovec in Slovenia.

The subject reflects the wider concept behind “Mgła“, an album built around events connected to the First and Second World Wars, including stories rooted in Val Resia and the surrounding borderlands, as well as memories handed down through generations. This historical dimension is closely tied to HELLMETALL‘s geographical and cultural background and to the band’s use of Resian, the local Slavic language.

Musically, “Mgła” represents the band’s move towards a darker blend of Thrash and Death Metal with elements drawn from Black Metal while retaining melodic references to the traditional music of Val Resia.

The new video brings the album campaign back to where it began with its title track. Since the release of “Mgła“, HELLMETALL has continued to reveal the record through “Gemona Btg. Doesn’t Exist Anymore” on May 18th and “Afrika” on July 3rd. Each track has offered a different perspective on the album and its historical narrative, with the focus now returning to “Mgła” as the full record approaches.

Mgła” was written by HELLMETALL founder and vocalist Daniele Micelli, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Davide Zago, with drum engineering by Pablo De Biasi and cover artwork by Manuel Scapinello.

THE TITANIC DEBUT SELF-TITLED STUDIO ALBUM OF HEAVY ROCK AND METAL TO BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 9th, 2026

“UNBORN” THE DEBUT SINGLE & VIDEO OUT NOW!

Recently unveiled Norwegian Heavy Metal juggernaut-in-the-making AVRAK was founded in November 2023 by guitarists Anders Hegna (Nød, El Kayenne, Svidd Grevling) and Ted Skjellum; notable for being half of legendary duo, Darkthrone. The pair had known each other for many years, and with a mutual passion for old, classic rock and metal they finally embarked upon this new journey together under the banner of AVRAK.

It quickly became evident that both were on the same page, with AVRAK’s first compositions taking shape within just 5 days. Ted had declared from the beginning that he would not carry out main vocal duties in the band, and so it was Anders, with his own vocal grit a comfortable match anyway, who assumed the role. Several weeks later, Terje Kråbøl (Gjendød, Sarke, Faustcoven) was brought in on the drums and, from there-on, with his percussive presence backing up some thunderous riffing, the creative work accelerated, culminating in the self-titled, hook-laden and doom-laced rock debut, ‘AVRAK’.

(lyric video created by Matthew Vickerstaff)

“UNBORN” – THE DEBUT SINGLE – OUT NOW
STREAM / DOWNLOAD AND WATCH THE LYRIC VIDEO HERE

Suitably and epically defined as a monumental “Heavy Metal voyage from the peak of the mountains to the depths of the seas”, and delivering themes relating to empowerment in the face of increasingly corrupt times, ‘AVRAK’ is a combination of a vast multitude of influences, as the eclectic, deceptively nuanced nine track offering features a classic heavy metal and doom rock backbone, with further experimentation including synth passages, and even some traces of black metal riffing in its DNA.

PRE-ORDER ‘AVRAK’  HERE

‘AVRAK’ was recorded, mixed and mastered in Mølla Studio by Knut Magne Valle, in February 2026.

AVRAK subsequently held its debut show in their local town of Porsgrunn in late April 2026, backed by new bassist & final piece of the puzzle, Steinar Gundersen (Khold, Sarke, Satyricon), with more live shows intended in future to support the release.

  1. Forever Mountain (04:45)
  2. Unborn (04:45)
  3. Long May The Lums Reek (05:22)
  4. Rot (01:07)

MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Opens Queen B Sushi In Old Town Cottonwood, Arizona

Aug. 18, 2026, Cottonwood, Ariz. – Maynard James Keenan has spent the past two decades helping turn the Verde Valley into an unlikely wine and culture destination. In 2024, he and his wife, Jennifer Keenan, expanded Queen B Vinyl Café to include a café and coffee roaster. Today, it’s Northern Arizona’s exclusive Record Store Day location and an artist-friendly venue, with recent and upcoming performances from Khemmis, Author & Punisher, and more.

On Sept. 4, Keenan opens Queen B Sushi at 816 N. Main St. in Old Town Cottonwood. Reservations are available here.

“Although I’ve been enjoying sushi since my days in Boston, circa 1987, my first Japanese tour wasn’t until 2000 with A Perfect Circle,” Keenan says. “It was an eye opening and mind-blowing experience. While there, I picked up these amazing titanium and hard wood travel chopsticks from Snow Peak. And I’ve carried them with me ever since. Last year I ran into Janeane Garofalo at the Chelsea in NYC. She was saying to David Cross and Dave Hill, ‘I haven’t seen Maynard in several years but one thing I remember is that he used to carry chopsticks in his pocket.’ At which point I reached into my pocket and pulled them out. Twenty-five years I’ve been carrying these chopsticks. That’s how much I love sushi.”

Queen B Sushi is led by Culinary Director Chef Brett Vibber, whose résumé spans Roka Akor’s London, Hong Kong, and U.S. locations. Vibber built the Queen B Sushi team around two hires: Chef Chuhiro “Thomas” Kato, who trained under Nobu Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills and Masaharu Morimoto in New York, and Chef Sheridan “Sher” Chase, an Arizona native who built his career in kitchens from California to Texas before returning home.

The concept began almost by accident. When Keenan and his wife, Jennifer, were developing the menu for Queen B Vinyl Café, they shelved the idea of a full sushi program, assuming they wouldn’t find the right chef in a town of 12,000. Vibber, already on staff, turned out to be exactly that chef.

Queen B Sushi will pour a rotating selection of Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards wines.

Keenan has spent more than two decades building Northern Arizona’s wine industry, including a successful campaign for the Verde Valley’s AVA (American Viticultural Area) certification in 2021. His footprint in the area began with the Caduceus Cellars Tasting Room in Jerome and has since grown to include the Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria and Caduceus Cellars Hilltop Facility, a seven-acre complex on the site of Cottonwood’s former Masonic Lodge.

NARCOTIC WASTELAND’s New Single Battles The “Fentanyl Zombie Apocalypse” ~ To Kick Off USA Tour w/ Visitant, Monochromatic Black, IATT, and Yotuma

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on August 18, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Narcotic Wasteland, fronted by guitarist/vocalist Dallas Toler‑Wade of NILE fame, fires the first shot of their August tour with the release of their blistering new single “Fentanyl Zombie Apocalypse.” The track arrives as the band launches the “FENTANYL ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE TOUR,” featuring select dates with support from Visitant, Monochromatic Black, IATT, and Yotuma (dates listed below).

A ferocious blend of technical precision, social commentary, and unrelenting aggression, the single stands as one of Narcotic Wasteland’s most urgent works to date, an explosive warning siren aimed at the escalating fentanyl epidemic and the societal collapse surrounding it.

Dallas Toler‑Wade comments on the new single:

“I am very excited to release our new song, Fentanyl Zombie Apocalypse! The song is, of course, about the fentanyl epidemic and the overall impact it has on an already failing country. Musically, it really captures the mood of this very well. Fast and tricky yet twisted and catchy! Kenji really brought some great bass and keys to the table. And Austin needs a drum set that won’t collapse under pressure! I am super proud of the work we have done together, and I cannot wait to show the world what we have been working on behind the scenes.”

Narcotic Wasteland continues to evolve into one of extreme metal’s most formidable units, featuring Dallas Toler‑Wade, former Nile guitarist, vocalist, and key songwriter; a defining force in technical death metal since the early ’90s.

Austin Vicars, a high‑octane drummer known for blistering blast beats and commanding stage presence, and Kenji Tsunami, an inventive bassist whose depth, texture, and ferocity amplify the band’s overwhelming sonic assault.

Together, they deliver a live experience that is both punishing and surgically precise, an unrelenting wall of sound that has packed venues and earned critical acclaim throughout recent tours. Narcotic Wasteland has cemented its position as a dominant force in modern death metal, unleashing a volatile blend of razor‑sharp technicality, feral aggression, and raw intensity.

Their music confronts addiction, corruption, and societal collapse with unflinching honesty, powered by musicianship that continually pushes the boundaries of extreme metal. Expect a barrage of new material, explosive performances, and the full force of Narcotic Wasteland’s latest evolution.

Recommended for fans of Nile, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Incantation, Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, Immolation, and Gorguts. Listen to “Fentanyl Zombie Apocalypse” at the following links:

ATER Release Cover Of TYPE O NEGATIVE’s “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”

Posted in dark metal, gothic metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on August 18, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Listen To “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” HERE: https://youtu.be/4ZNjFrE2pmQ

Chile’s heavy ensemble ATER present their interpretation of TYPE O NEGATIVE’s “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”, released via Torque Records. The band’s shadowy sound combines extreme metal and gothic rock, seeing ATER unveil a dark and heavy take on TYPE O NEGATIVE’s iconic track.

ATER’s frontman Fernando Bühring comments: “I was introduced to Type O Negative by my older brother back when I was in my early teens. I was immediately hooked, and they have been at the top of my favorite bands list and are great inspiration for me and the music I write with ATER to this day.

Making our own rendition of ‘My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’ was a lot of fun. The whole process took just a couple of days. I demo’d the whole thing during the course of a morning. Vincent laid down the drums quickly and we kept the rest from the demo. We also invited fellow guitar player and producer Tebby Muñoz to do the solo on this one. Personally I’m not into making covers much at all, but when I realized October Rust was turning 30, I wanted to celebrate with making a tribute to it. We will probably never do a cover again, so here ya go!.”

About ATER:
Based out of Santiago, Chile, extreme metal act ATER unveiled their debut album Eternal Gray Spiral in 2018 through Insania Recordings. The band’s sophomore album Somber arrived in 2024 via Torque Records, with 2025 seeing the release of singles, “The Fall” and “Venus”.

Describing their sound as Dark Metal or Extreme Dark Metal, ATER‘s music is constructed primarily from extreme metal and gothic rock. Their production feels both modern and organic, with composer Fernando building songs around the guitars and bass often leading to centered bass parts in the mix. Thematically, ATER‘s music is introspective, open and honest in its emotional delivery. ATER explore gothic romanticism with an updated, modern perspective.

ATER have traversed across global stages including European tours: Epic Prophecy Europe 2024 (BATUSHKA, VLTIMAS, GOD DETHRONED, ATER), Beyond The Black Tour Europe 2025 (VENOM INC, KRISIUN, HATE, ATER), and Morbidfest Tour Europe 2025 (POSSESSED, TERRORIZER, SUICIDAL ANGELS, NIGHTFALL, ATER). In 2025 alone, ATER performed an impressive 110 shows including national support for CRADLE OF FILTH in Santiago, Chile, and Turock Festival, Essen, Germany.

PERPETUAL PARADOX Share New Song, “Source of Hate” ~ New EP May Misery Befall You Out August 28

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on August 18, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

London technical metal unit PERPETUAL PARADOX have launched the newest single off their forthcoming EP,  May Misery Befall You.

Source of Hate” is among the EP’s more direct and venomous tracks, built around big, punishing riffs rather than guitar fireworks. This approach allowed drummer Harry Cook to go absolutely feral, while the track’s slow, heavy callout is designed for the room to cave in.

Lyrically, the track digs into what happens when people are pushed so far that hate becomes the only thing they know how to give back.

“‘Source of Hate’ was written about the cycle of hate represented as a disease or parasite growing inside somebody,” comments vocalist Adrian Caucelo. “The body horror imagery is there to make hatred feel alive, like something feeding on you and reshaping who you are over time. At the start the hate feels external, like something forced onto somebody else, but by the end the character fully becomes it – ‘I am the source of hate.’ The song is also about people who constantly push and provoke others until eventually they create the exact anger and violence they were feeding in the first place. The ending line ‘you’ll choke on it yourself’ is basically the cycle continuing again instead of ever truly ending.”

Watch the official music video for “Source of Hate” now at: youtube.com/watch?v=oxdTp4F7yWc

Stream the song on Spotify and Apple Music.

May Misery Befall You is a five-song rager pulls PERPETUAL PARADOX back towards a riff-first approach to songwriting – technical death metal with blast beats, shred and melody, without letting the technicality take center stage. After the broader sprawl of their 2025 full-length, Deathwish, the band sought to make something more focused and unified, where riffs, solos, breakdowns and stronger compositional turns feel like proper sections rather than ideas stitched together in the studio.

Watch the official music video for the EP’s first single, “Smell the Rot” at this location.

May Misery Befall You is due out on August 28 via Bleeding Art Collective.

2) Laconic
3) Smell the Rot
4) Source of Hate

UMUS – Funeral Doom Project Announce Debut Album, Voidlit, for October 13th ~ First Single “Oblivion” Streaming Now

Posted in doom metal, funeral doom, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on August 17, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Remote funeral doom project UMUS will release their debut album, Voidlit, on October 13th, 2026, through Ksenza Records/Aesthetic Death on CD and Aesthetic Death on double LP.

Formed in 2024 through a remote collaboration between three musicians based in different cities, UMUS was born from a shared vision of funeral doom stripped down to its most immersive and atmospheric essence. Drawing inspiration from Ahab, Evoken, Esoteric and the shadowy world of dark ambient music, the project favors atmosphere, emotional weight and gradual development over technical display or unnecessary complexity.

The first single“Oblivion”, is streaming now at THIS LOCATION.

Spanning more than an hour across five compositions, Voidlit is a monolithic and smoke-shrouded work, built from glacial tempos, layered guitars and cavernous vocals. Yet beneath its imposing surface, the album reveals occasional flashes of light: subtle melodic details and unexpected passages emerge from the haze, giving its long-form compositions a sense of depth and movement.

Rather than treating funeral doom as an exercise in sheer heaviness, UMUS use slowness as a means of immersion. Each composition unfolds patiently, allowing textures to accumulate and emotions to deepen, while small changes in melody and atmosphere assume greater significance within the album’s extended structures.

Conceived as a continuous narrative, Voidlit traces a descent through grief, isolation and spiritual decay toward the gradual disintegration of the self. Personal loss and social alienation give way to an increasingly inward journey, ultimately confronting the emptiness left behind when everything else has fallen away.

The physical editions of Voidlit will also include the exclusive bonus track “Voidlit II”, available only on CD and double LP.

Track-list:

  1. Ghost Of Grief
  2. Harbinger Of The End
  3. Oblivion
  4. Voidlit
  5. Voidlit II (bonus track – only available on the physical formats)

Following the enthusiastic response to their independently released EP The Enemy WithinInvincia return with a song that show the essence of their musical identity, while opening the door to the band’s next chapter. Inspired by the Melodic Power and emotional depth of SavatageQueensrÿcheHelloweenJudas Priest and Dio, “Unite” combines memorable songwriting with the unmistakable spirit of classic Heavy Metal, approached through a fresh and personal perspective.

The single is the first taste of Echoes From the Past, an album written over the last two years and conceived as a collection of songs where melody, atmosphere and storytelling take center stage. Rather than chasing trends, Invincia have focused on crafting music with lasting character, songs built to resonate beyond the first listen.

As with the band’s debut EP, Echoes From The Past was mixed and mastered by acclaimed producer Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse) at Mass Destruction Production, whose production enhances every nuance of the performances while preserving the band’s natural energy and approach.

Formed in Vaasa, Finland, in 2024, Invincia made an impressive debut with the independently released EP The Enemy Within. The release attracted attention from international media, earning reviews and interviews with publications including Sweden Rock Magazine and Kaoszine, while all the singles found their way onto Spotify’s official Finnish metal playlist Metallia Suomesta, helping the band reach listeners far beyond their home country.

With Escape Music now backing the release of their first full-length album, Invincia are ready to introduce their music to an even wider audience. “Unite” is an invitation to discover a band deeply rooted in the traditions of Melodic Heavy Metal, yet determined to write its own story.

Echoes From the Past will be released worldwide on September 25, 2026, via Escape Music.

CASKET DWELLER – Greek Death Metal Newcomers Announce Debut Album, River of Slumber, via Nuclear Winter Records

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on August 15, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Nuclear Winter Records is proud to announce the release of River of Slumber, the debut album from Greek death metal band CASKET DWELLER, set for release on October 22nd, 2026 on CD format (LP and tape version to follow later).

The first single “Voodoo Incants” is streaming at THIS LOCATION.

Hailing from Athens, Greece, CASKET DWELLER deliver a deeply rooted take on traditional death metal. Formed in 2022, the band quickly established itself within the Greek underground through a series of live appearances across the country.

From the beginning, CASKET DWELLER have built their identity around more than just music: their visual aesthetic draws heavily from classic horror cinema of the 1940s and gothic literature, influences that also permeate the atmosphere of River of Slumber, creating a world where darkness, decay and heavy riffs come together.

The band’s debut album is a tribute to the foundations of death metal while maintaining a strong sense of personality. Built around memorable, riff-driven compositions, River of Slumber showcases a band with a clear understanding of the genre’s traditions and the ability to transform those influences into songs that flow naturally from start to finish.

While the production carries the unmistakable imprint of the Swedish death metal school, the album’s musical DNA reaches further, incorporating elements from the classic Florida scene and the heavier Dutch tradition. Echoes of bands such as Death, Pestilence and Asphyx can be found throughout the record, not through imitation but through a shared appreciation for powerful riffs, dynamic arrangements and songwriting that puts the song at the center.

With a careful balance between crushing passages, darker atmospheres and more melodic moments, River of Slumber presents CASKET DWELLER as a new force within the contemporary old school death metal movement. A band focused on the essentials: memorable riffs, strong compositions and the timeless appeal of death metal.

Track-list:

  1. Chapters
  2. Dust Off the Shovel
  3. He Rows
  4. Fangs of the Vampire
  5. Creatures of the Night
  6. Embalming Slime
  7. Burnt at the Stake
  8. Voodoo Incants
  9. Requiem

EXHUMED will be touring in support of their critically adored Red Asphalt full-length, released earlier this year on Relapse Records.

The latest wrong turn from the driving force of gore metal, Red Asphalt crashes the band’s hook-laden, high-speed deathgrind into whiplash-inducing grooves and dangerous musical curves. The record serves as a love letter to the road – horrific accidents, vehicular homicide, defective cars, gore-filled instructional videos, zombified biker gangs, and more. True to the band’s spirit, Red Asphalt drags the listener through a whirlwind of riffy madness.

Tracks like the aptly titled “Unsafe At Any Speed,” “Shovelhead,” and “The Iron Graveyard” ooze with sleaze and groove while retaining all of the high-octane, full-throttle, white-knuckle madness you’ve come to demand from EXHUMEDRed Asphalt inarguably serves as one of 2026’s most frenetic, unhinged slabs of sonic obliteration.

Order Red Asphalt on LP/CD/CS/streaming via Relapse.com HERE.

Finnish Black Thrash Metal Band BEATRIX Releases First Single From Their Upcoming Album ~ Sets Out To Finnish-Estonian Tour With Japanese BARBATOS

Posted in blackened thrash, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on August 13, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Photographer: Aldis Jordans

BEATRIX is known as a furious and energetic live band in the Finnish underground, playing nightmarish black thrash metal, with skull crushing riffs, haunting melodies and demonic vocals.

After a successful Baltic tour with fellow maniacs JÄVELINand NIGHT SLASHER, a new song has been battle tested and is ready to be unleashed on the bleeding eardrums of the unsuspecting listeners.

The self titled song “BEATRIX” is the first single from the upcoming full length concept album the band has been building on since it’s incarnation in 2019.

It’s about becoming something greater, a praying mantis queen born from human flesh, which also answers the question of where the band’s name comes from.

01. Beatrix
Composer: Aapo Härkönen
Lyrics: Markus Leppänen

HARLOTT Presents “The Joyful Stain” Video/Single ~ Exsequiis Full-Length From Australian Thrashers Releasing On September 11th, Via Metal Blade Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, nfl football with tags , , , , , , on August 13, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

“The Joyful Stain” is the latest single from long-running Australian thrashers, HARLOTT. The track appears on the band’s upcoming Exsequiis full-length, set for release on September 11th via Metal Blade Records!

The band comments, “‘The Joyful Stain’ is a homage to ‘the lucky country’ that we call home; a second-rate first-world dystopia governed by corruption, stupidity, and indifference.”

Watch HARLOTT’s video for “The Joyful Stain” HERE.

Watch HARLOTT’s previously released video for “Trial By Liar”HERE.

After a six-year gap, Exsequiis marks the boldest leap forward in HARLOTT’s career. Denser, harsher and more confident than ever, a razor-sharp sound built on world-class guitar work. The death of the gods, delivered by thrash metal artisans in the prime of their lives.

Detritus Of The Final Age (2020) was a great experience in digging out sounds and ideas that we would have been too trepidant to explore,” explains guitarist/vocalist Andrew Hudson. “For Exsequiis, we went further into that, but with the confidence that it would work as it had done before.”

When describing the band’s creative process on Detritus Of The Final Age, Hudson notes, “Whether it’s lyrics or riffs or breakdowns, I always make sure that every song has at least one bit that makes you go ‘fuck yeeeeah.’” With Exsequiis, Harlott tripled-down on this strategy, ensuring the “fuck yeeeeahs are continuously overlapping for 46 minutes.

Exsequiis – Track Listing:

1. Incipiam

2. Void

3. Messiah Simplex

4. Trial By Liar

5. The God That Knows No Name

6. Kleptogenesis

7. A Still More Glorious Dawn Awaits

8. The Joyful Stain

9. Endling

10. Vice Borne

11. Exsequiis

Although undoubtedly a band with their own intrinsic identity, there is still much fun for the dedicated thrasher in spotting specific inspirational moments, a pinch of Arise-era Sepultura here, a ‘90s Overkill groove there, the odd touch of Testament technicality or crossover gang chant. However, when asked what HARLOTT regards as thrash metal’s gold standard, the response is unequivocal: “Does anyone ever answer this question with something other than Reign In Blood?”

Rick Rubin’s razor-sharp, in-your-face production on Slayer’s 1986 benchmark release is a fair pointer to the sound of Exsequiis. Bassist/vocalist Tom Richard‘s bass is especially well served, with an interesting tonal dominance in certain passages, but every layer is rammed upfront for maximum head-caving impact.

HARLOTT’s Exsequiis will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variant:

“Coagulation” A Side B Side (EU – Ltd. 500)

Lyrics remain in the depressingly real world, the band preferring not to embroider some supernatural phantasmagoria but instead casting a jaundiced eye over our bitterly divided current climate. “It’s been a pretty interesting time to live through politically and socially,” admits Hudson. “Disinformation appears to be the new normal and a population obsessed with content creation and online participation has really exposed some things that I think we were all probably happier being ignorant of.”

HARLOTT Live:
9/11/2026 Juz – Burghausen, DE
9/12/2026 Nuclear Intervention Fest – Kadov u Blatné, CZ
9/13/2026 Garage Pub – Krakow, PL

Blackened Thrashers ETERNAL DRAK Announces Quebec Tour Dates For Sixth Album The Violence of Time ~ Out Now!

Posted in Black Metal, blackened thrash, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , on August 12, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Blackened thrash metal entity Eternal Drak will storm stages across the province of Quebec this fall, announcing a run of regional tour dates in support of their sixth full‑length album, The Violence of Time, available now. The tour marks the band’s return to the province with their most aggressive and concept‑driven material to date, bringing their varied rhythm, catchy sound and uncompromising intensity directly to Quebec fans.

Across its ten tracks, the album dismantles the human understanding of past, present, and future. Each song is a violent thesis, a sonic and lyrical strike against the idea that time can be explained, contained, or understood. Instead of offering conclusions, the album explores fragments of realization, exposing how time pressures identity, warps memory, and rewrites causality.

Musically, the album is built for true old‑school metal devotees: those drawn to the raw spirit of thrash, the darkness of black metal, and the severity of death metal. Eternal Drak merge analog aggression with digital density, resulting in a sound that is varied in rhythm and catchy in impact, sharpened into their most cohesive identity yet.

Track Listing:
1. We Force It To Speak – 5:15
2. The Unborn Paths Rot – 3:51
3. Me Hice Simultaneo – 3:30
4. The Blasphemy of Time – 3:35
5. Chaos Is the Law – 3:34
6. Where Cause Is Buried – 3:55
7. Across the Watching Veils – 3:53
8. Breathing Once Again – 3:45
9. The Cosmos Rejects You – 4:09
10. No Direction Total War – 2:57
Album Length: 38:24

Every track begins with a central written idea. Once the concept is defined, Eternal Drak builds the music to reflect the emotion and message of the text. Riffs, rhythms, and structures are crafted to echo the same intention, ensuring that even listeners who perceive the voice as an instrument still feel the weight of the lyrics.

Long‑time listeners can expect emotional continuity, thematic depth, and a sound that finally consolidates the band’s identity after years of evolution.

Over the years, Eternal Drak have evolved from raw thrash‑and‑black foundations into a dynamic force shaped by death metal, groove, and even Latin folk influences. Their sound has grown alongside the metal scene itself, adapting to new tools and technologies while preserving the intensity and character that define the band.

DEBUT ALBUM, THE PULSE OF ATOMS, OUT OCT. 2 VIA IPECAC RECORDINGS

PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE NOW: https://lustmordlombardo.lnk.to/pulse

“Paleomagnetic Resonance” visualizer created by Displaced/Replaced.

Aug. 11, 2026 – Lustmord, the pioneer of modern ambient electronic music, and Dave Lombardo, one of heavy music’s most influential percussionists, have joined forces as Lustmord Lombardo.

The pair release their debut album, The Pulse of Atoms, on Oct. 2 via Ipecac Recordings, offering a taste of their new collaboration with today’s release of “Paleomagnetic Resonance” (https://youtu.be/E0lBb2i-t3Y). “Paleomagnetic Resonance” visualizer created by Displaced/Replaced.

“One thing about an album like this is that you can’t really point it out as being part of any specific genre or hopefully any specific period,” Lustmord explains. “Is it from last year? Is it from 10 years ago, is it from 20 years ago, is it from 5 years in the future? It’s trying to create something that has its own sound, not tapping into whatever musical language or history you’re familiar with. It goes way, way further back. This is the sound of planets dying or of stars being born. It’s about a bigger picture. It’s the sound of the birth of the universe and the death of the universe; it’s not rock and roll.”

The two musicians met backstage at a Fantômas show, introduced by mutual friend Buzz Osborne, around the time that Lustmord and Melvins released their collaborative album. Nearly two decades later, Lombardo and Lustmord convened as Lustmord Lombardo, crafting an album that is as cold and distant as it is frantic and engaging. The Pulse of Atoms showcases an unheard side of Lombardo and brings Lustmord back to his industrial roots.

Rather than composing songs in a traditional sense, Lustmord built evolving walls and vortices of sound, leaving room for Lombardo to add percussion and various synthesizer layers. Once the editing and arrangement was complete, Lustmord mixed and mastered the record, which was a balancing act between the two players’ large, loud musical presences.

“I’m very proud of this collaboration because it’s so different from anything else that I’ve done,” Lombardo adds. “And to create this body of work with Lustmord – this guy is legendary! He rattles the plaster off of venues.”

Album pre-orders, including a pair of limited-edition vinyl variants (Clear and Smoke), CD, and digital pre-saves, are available now: https://lustmordlombardo.lnk.to/pulse.

About Lustmord

Lustmord is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of dark ambient and industrial music. Active since the early ‘80s, his work draws on field recordings, low-frequency drones, and cinematic sound design to create immersive, atmospheric pieces. Lustmord’s catalog spans dozens of solo releases and collaborations, and his influence extends into film and game scoring, as well as experimental electronic production.

About Dave Lombardo

Dave Lombardo is a GRAMMY Award-winning drummer whose playing style helped define the sound of thrash and extreme metal. He is also one of the most versatile percussionists in heavy music, known as a founding member of Slayer, as well as his work with Fantômas, Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle, the Misfits, and a wide range of collaborations. In 2023, Lombardo released his debut solo album, Rites of Percussion, which NPR praised as “a very different side of one of metal’s most punishing drummers.”

The vision of Louisiana-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Dennis R. SandersSPIRIT IN THE ROOM unfurls through cigarette smoke, cheap booze, and distortion like an anachronistic fever dream soundtracked by a collision of gothic vocal hues, immersive alternative architecture, and jarring metallic catharsis. It’s scary at times. It’s sad at other times. If you ever wondered what goes on in the head of a film noir hitman, horror novel asylum inmate, or a golden age silver screen villain, it might sound something like SPIRIT IN THE ROOM.

SPIRIT IN THE ROOM’s released their Passengers EP in 2024. Maximum Volume Music hailed, “…a blistering heavy garage-come-industrial metal banger,” while Distorted Sound wrote, “we experience a whole range of feelings from paranoia to obsession that make Flamingo what it is: a musically progressive record with Sanders more than ready to take risks along the way.” In 2023, SPIRIT IN THE ROOM served as support for Pantera on four shows in the Western US.

Swedish heavy metal titans RAM will release their new full-length, titled Against, on October 9th, through Metal Blade Records.

It has been nearly seven years since The Throne Within, an album defined by its spiritual and metaphysical themes. With AgainstRAM takes a more grounded approach, focusing on the experience of being pushed beyond reasonable limits and refusing to comply. The album captures that moment of resistance “that fire of defiance, which ultimately defines its title and message,” as the band collectively states.

For the production, RAM reunited with their longtime collaborator Johan Reiven, who had previously worked with the band on Lightbringer (2009). Without their own studio, having sold Black Path Studios the band recorded at Studio Recordia in Varberg, Sweden.

“At first, I wasn’t really comfortable not being in my own domain,” admits singer Oscar Carlquist. “But Johan is a far better sound tech than me and he did a wonderful job. We recorded the solos in a cool new way, as we set up two amps, one wet with a lot of effects and one dry with no effects. They were both mic’d up separately and they played into the enormous recording room in Recordia that is 150 square meters, where we placed two room mics (left and right).”

The approach resulted in a rich, organic sound that enhanced the album’s overall character. Musically, both guitarists continue to favor bridge pickups, maintaining a sharp and aggressive tone. The equipment used on Against reflects a classic approach, contributing to a sound that feels both timeless and direct. Sonically, Against was conceived as a return to classic recording philosophies.

Drawing inspiration from the early works of Dio, MSG, and Sweet, the goal was to create an honest and unpolished sound. What you hear is what you get! In a music landscape increasingly divided into countless subgenres, the band positions itself deliberately outside of categorization. The title Against, itself, reinforces the band’s longstanding identity as nonconformists, viewing heavy metal as a form of sonic rebellion.

“We do not give a fuck about all these new strange subgenres popping up. We try to play heavy metal in its purest form. We try to hang on to the center of that energy, and we are completely uninterested in 99% of the metal scene,” asserts Carlquist.

As a precursor to the release, RAM delivers the record’s lead single, “Ghost Emperor” and an accompanying video.

Carlquist comments, “This is the opener of the album, a straightforward classic heavy metal song and pure RAM. Lyrically, it deals with how our power structures exist to conceal the true rulers, the ones we will never see or know, pulling the strings behind the curtain and controlling us all.”
