“The cathartic experience of playing live music has not changed over the 13 years of performing,” John Baizley said in a recent interview with the SF Weekly. “But the sense of relief and release I feel as an adult is as intense, if not more than, when I was younger.  The response to this record has been really, really overwhelming. There have been some pretty dramatic changes in the way that our audiences react to our songs, and I couldn’t be happier about that.”

Tickets for all non-festival performances are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time with pre-sales available tomorrow at 12 pm eastern via Pallbearer opens on all non-festival dates.

Purple was released on Dec. 18 via the band’s own Abraxan Hymns label. The Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev) produced album has been universally praised with Pitchfork saying Purple features “some of the biggest, strong songs Baroness has ever written,” Entertainment Weekly calling the album “their finest release yet,” Rolling Stone Australia dubbing it “the most dynamic, robust guitar album this year,” Mojo echoing those sentiments, saying “Baroness have delivered their masterpiece: an album grounding their cosmic heaviosity with earthbound, compelling drama,” and German magazine Visions declaring “the quasi-comeback Purple is their best album to date.”

Purple and the songs from the album also landed on a number of year-end best of lists with “Shock Me” coming in at #10 on Entertainment Weekly’s Top 40 Songs of 2015, Pitchfork awarding it #6 on their Best Metal Albums of 2015 round-up and Rolling Stone placing the release at #7 on their 20 Best Metal Albums of 2015.

Vancouver, Canada’s ASTRAKHAN are proud to announce the upcoming release of debut full-length album, Reward in Purposeon CD and vinyl formats. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2014 EP A Tapestry of Scabs and Skin will be released June 10 on War on Music and Sunmask Records. Check out the Reward in Purpose teaser video at this location or below:

Recorded by Jesse Gander and Mastered by Stu McKillop at Rain City Recorders, Reward in Purpose stands as a singular piece of music and is meant to be taken as it is; the whole is indeed bigger than the sum of its parts. This album explores the perceptions and experience of the band over the last few years together and culminates with the realization that the true reward for which we search with any passionate endeavour is ultimately a matter of experiencing the highs and lows that come with the pursuit of pure expression. It is simply a matter being occupied with something that matters to you.

A video of the band performing new song “Omajod” at Vancouver Psychfest can be viewed at this location or below:

Album artwork comes courtesy of Nick Patterson. ASTRAKHAN vocalist/guitarist Rob Zawistowski created the design and layout. Thanks to Amy Ray Photography for band photos, including the album’s back cover.

LA Band Spoofs the Show “Cheaters” in New Music Video

Los Angeles, CA – Grunge-pop band Ramonda Hammer dropped the music video to their anthemic debut single, Goddamn Idiot. The video follows a bereaved woman on a reality TV show looking to catch her boyfriend, whom she believes to be unfaithful. Having acquired their name from the reality TV show Cheaters, Ramonda Hammer cleverly plays off this inspiration.

To make the video for “Goddamn Idiot”, the band teamed up with director Ariel Gardner of Dan Harmon’s comedy site, Channel 101. Front-woman, Devin Davis portrays the scorned lover seeking revenge on her unfaithful boyfriend, played by lead guitarist, Justin Geter, and his mistress, performed by bass player, Andy Hengl. Turning to a reality show to expose her cheating boyfriend, the suspecting girlfriend seeks the help of a trashy TV show hosted by drummer, Danny Louangxay. Catching her boyfriend in the act of cheating, Davis’ performance is larger than life as she satirizes the melodrama of reality TV. The show concludes with an unexpected twist of modern romance that is both hilarious and heartwarming.

Goddamn Idiot ART - Ramonda Hammer - promo single pic - 2016

“Goddamn Idiot” is an angst-ridden rock ballad that Davis explains is “about those moments when people are too afraid to do the right thing, stand up for others, take risks, or just think for themselves. Everyone’s a “goddamn idiot” sometimes, myself included.” Packed with guitar hooks drenched in reverb supporting Davis’ raw vocals, “Goddamn Idiot” is reminiscent of the best nineties alternative rock. The song is the first single off their upcoming album, Whatever That Means, due out later this year. The music video is now streaming on YouTube (or below) and the track is available for download on iTunes.

Davis formed Ramonda Hammer in the summer of 2014, but had come up with the band name as a joke years prior, after binge-watching Cheaters. When she finally decided to start the project, she met Andy Hangl who became the band’s bass player, and soon after, recruited Danny Louangxay on drums and Justin Geter on lead guitar. As a quartet, Ramonda Hammer realized their true potential, creating a sound that is familiar yet unique.

Finding inspiration in acts such as Nirvana, The Pixies, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ramonda Hammer is an eclectic group that combines the raw lyrics and guitar riffs of grunge with the captivating melodies of pop. Though the band’s music is rooted in nineties style, their interpretation of alternative rock is truly fresh and contemporary. Ramonda Hammer has played at legendary venues such as The Echo, The Satellite, The Viper Room, and The Smell, and they toured the west coast in the spring of 2015. IRON MAIDEN – Iconic Metal Warriors Are Cover Feature For Revolver Magazine’s December Issue!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, music news, news, rock music with tags , , , on November 6, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Iron Maiden - Eddie - cover feature - Revolver Magazine - December 2015 - #MOIMNSSM99033

IRON MAIDEN – I just bought this December issue of Revolver at Barnes & Noble today and what a read! The front cover is super badass with the tribal Eddie in all of his gory glory! Whoa! I haven’t purchased a copy of Revolver in a few years, due to the fact that I’m into Zero Tolerance, Metal Hammer and other Metal mags. In addition, the internet itself is where I get 90% of my Metal news as well. However, when this issue stared back at me today, I said: sold!!

I, like countless other Metal and IRON MAIDEN fans are ecstatic that the great Bruce Dickinson has beaten cancer. The Bruce Dickinson feature is a must read. There’s a cool article on Deafheaven too, a band I’ve recently discovered and dig. I haven’t read the Coheed And Cambria or Trivium articles yet; I’ll read them though, of course. This Revolver mag cost me $6.99 (U.S.) and is worth every dime as an IRON MAIDEN collectible. Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

BATTALION OF SAINTS – West Coast Punk Icons To Release 7-Inch Via Southern Lord In October; Reissues And Live Dates On The Horizon

Battalion Of Saints - promo 7 inch cover pic - 2015 - #9369MMNSS033

Southern Lord proudly announces the raging return of legendary West Coast punk heathens, BATTALION OF SAINTS. Led by surviving member George Anthony, the band has three furious brand new songs that kick ass just as effectively as their classics. The Battalion Of Saints 7″ will be released in October via Southern Lord.

BATTALION OF SAINTS was a major catalyst in accelerating the transition from the already upbeat, adrenaline-charged punk of the early 1980s in to feral, snarling hardcore punk of the highest quality and intensity. Pounding distorted pace, live shows dripping with sweat and threat, and a gnarly attitude – BATTALION OF SAINTS stands tall among bands from the era including the Dead Kennedys, Crucifix, Minor Threat and Discharge as well as Southern Lord’s Poison Idea, The Offenders and Excel, remaining a crucial part of an immortal and ongoing legacy.

Founding vocalist George Anthony leads the charge in 2015, joined by a no-nonsense lineup of hardcore convicts; drummer Mike Vega plays in legendary cult thrashers Hirax, while Matt Vicknair has spent time on bass in equally eminent USHC hardcore royalty Angry Samoans and the band now sees guitarist Nate Javier, also of Angry Samoans and others, joining the lineup.
