Epic Black Metal Band FROZEN DAWN Return With Their Fourth Full-Length Album

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 27, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Release Date – February 10th, 2023

This is the most ambitious and accomplished album by the Spanish black metal band Frozen Dawn who haven’t quite received the attention that they deserved in the past. Intense and sharp, their scintillating music is tempered by heart-rending melodies and leads, and it’s all beautifully strung together. You can listen to one of their heart-racing songs HERE and a longer one with a gorgeous finale HERE.

For a decade and a half, Frozen Dawn have been perfecting their sound which can be described as stirring, intense and scathing black metal tempered with melody and soaring leads. The members have used their experience in notable bands to create something that not only pays earnest tribute to the classic bands such as Dissection, Necrophobic, Sacramentum and Naglfar but also sounds contemporary in terms of structure and execution. They’ve bolstered the sound with death metal influences and even added slight thrash touches, ensuring that the music remains powerful, incisive and compelling.

The momentum remains unabated as the band pummels its way through nine elaborate tracks and a fitting cover of Necrophobic. Many bands have attempted to recreate this sound with varying degrees of success but clearly Frozen Dawn have excelled at it which is mainly due to their knack for meticulous songwriting that straddles heaviness with emotion, allowing them to enhance the expression and maintain the much-needed diversity for the style. This album is easily Frozen Dawn‘s best one yet and is head and shoulders above the rest of them where this kind of music goes in recent memory.

Line up –
Dani Grinder (ex-Haemorrhage) – Vocals, Rhythm & Lead Guitars
Antonio Mansilla (ex-Hordak) – Bass, Lead & Classical Guitars
Arjan van der Wijst (ex-Avulsed) – Drums

Mastered by Dan Swano at Unisound Studios

Extreme Metal Music – One Man Black Metal TRYGLAV Announces New Album “The Ritual” Out Feb 2023

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 25, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Extreme Metal Music is proud to announce the release of the one-man black metal band, Croatia’s Tryglav‘s second album “The Ritual” this coming February 2023 to follow the 2019 debut “Night of Whispering Souls” also released on the label.

All the music on “The Ritual” were written by founder Boris Behara with vocals entrusted to vocalist Callum Wright along with mixing and mastering by producer Rocco Pezzin. The songs on the sophomore record began their journey in 2018 as part of Behara’s love for black metal and horror imagery. After many re-compositions and re-arrangements along with interruptions from the world pandemic and his personal health with two open heart surgeries. , “The Ritual” will now see the light once again via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Italian label Rockshots Records.

After three years, a world pandemic, and two open heart surgeries, I’m proud that the album I worked hard on is finally seeing the light! This time I wanted something more than just individual horror stories, that’s why I worked so hard to put out an original concept story based on Plague Doctors, which are the trademark of this band since the beginning. This album has seen so many difficulties, but finally, after three long years, it’s here! I hope fans will enjoy it as much I did create it!”

Tryglav‘s sound is aggressive, melodic, modern, and emotionally epic black metal, and fans of its predecessor will notice a maturity in sound and lyrics. The story behind the album is set in the 17th century as Tryglav explains further:

“On a dark stormy night, a dying man sighed his last breath. Nothing his parents could do to save his life. A Plague Doctor was called. Four of them showed up, taking the dead body with them. The family knew that they would never see him again. What they didn’t know was that he would come back, in an unimaginable way..”

Tryglav is recommended for fans of Dark Funeral, Dissection, and Uada.

NECRODEATH – Legendary Italian Black-Thrashers Premiere “Oomny Ones” Video

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 13, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Today, Italian black-thrash metal trailblazers NECRODEATH share the new single “Oomny Ones”. Watch the video HERE.

The clip was produced by Time To Kill Records/Morbid Vision Italyand directed by the band’s frontman Flegias with the assistance of Merlin Music Management, BlåKläDer, Midnight Club.

The song is inspired by Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” – the scene in which Alex, the protagonist, is seen regaining his leadership among his “droogs”. In the video, the director (and singer of the band) elaborates this concept through the rivalry between two motorcycle gangs who meet to discuss the ownership of a territory. Those who are able to showcase a little (un)healthy ultra-violence will prevail. The video also shows the whole band drinking milk plus inside a replica of the famous Korova Milk Bar.

The band’s new record “Singin’ in the Pain” will be released via Time To Kill Records on November 28th 2022.

“Singin ‘in the Pain”
is a concept based on the movie “A Clockwork Orange” by Stanley Kubrick, where the band takes us on a one-way black-thrash journey, soaked in immorality and violence, and back to a vain attempt at redemption and normality.

The album is conceived in 9 tracks linked together by the narrating voice of Tony Dolan of VENOM INC. and supported in the finale by the presence of Eric Forrest of E-FORCE (ex-VOIVOD).

Ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence?

Tracklist:

01 Gang Fight
02 Transformer Treatment
03 The Sweet Up and Down
04 Redemperdition
05 Delicious Milk Plus

08 Oomny-Ones
09 Anti-Hero

“Transformer Treatment”
is a song written in collaboration with S.B. Reder (SCHIZO).

The moment you hear it, you know it’s NECRODEATH. Formed back in 1984, the Italian act is one of the real iconic black-thrash metal bands. With an ongoing career of almost 40 years, the band has helped to shape the Italian metal scene and the international underground as it is today. NECRODEATH released a cult-demo tape titled “The Shining Pentagram” and obtained an incredible success in the underground.

The demo is still considered a real gem in the thrash and black metal history. Tons of tributes in major magazines, fanzines and other underground outlets highlighted the release of the first two legendary albums “Into The Macabre” (1987) and “Fragments Of Insanity” (1989). And today after many full-lengths, EPs and side projects the long voyage to hell is not over yet.

Fragments of Insanity (1989; re-recorded in 2019)

Finnish dark metal band Kuoleman Galleria releases their third album “Armon Loppu” on February 18th 2022. Now they present the third and last single before the album release. “Jean Grenier” is a gruesome historical story.

Watch the lyric video here: https://youtu.be/LTMU4F7_j0c or below:

“Jean Grenier is a true story of 17th century poverty and endless hunger that pushed Jean Grenier to make his own solutions. He fell into insanity wearing his wolf skin cloak that gave him a dark freedom which was ripped away from him in the end. Within every human there is a beast that will step in when the situation forces to do so.” – Band backgrounds the single.

Black Metal Project TORII Releases Self-TItled Album

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on January 2, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

The new, self-titled album from apocalyptic black/death metal project TORII is out now on CD and digital formats.

The new album sees TORII return after three years of silence, having reverted back to its original form as a solo project. With Torii, Masino continues the journey into the depths of post-metal and death/doom with a stronger focus on atmosphere. Torii released on December 17.

Purchase Torii at this location.

Track Listing:
1) The Second Renaissance
2) Synthetic Dust
3) Persephone
4) Eurydice
5) Grey Expanse
6) Void
7) Inertia
8) Torii

Though black and death metal are core elements, the basic description doesn’t quite capture the breadth of the music, colored as it is with post-metal grays and streaks of doom. TORII has created yet another masterwork of oppressive darkness and an intensity that burns continually. Artwork, lyrics, vocals, instruments, and programming on Torii were all done by Bill Masino.

Dreamlike and longing but still vicious and punishing – Nordic black metal saturated in that characteristically wild and unbound organic spirit associated with many of the Nordvis bands. Perhaps somewhere in-between Murg and Panphage, but with an atmosphere rooted in folkloric mysticism. Blodtår’s primary strength is the masterful use of contrast in mood and music, showcasing both acoustic interludes and a youthful fire that brings early Dissection to mind.

MYSTIC CIRCLE – Reunited German Black/Death Metallers Unleash Video For “Letters From The Devil” – Mystic Circle Album Details Revealed + Preorders Begin

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on November 20, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Earlier this week, reunited German black/death metallers MYSTIC CIRCLE announced their signing to Atomic Fire Records. Today, the duo unveils a video for “Letters From The Devil,” the first single off their highly-anticipated, eponymous comeback, set for release on February 4th, 2022.

Elaborates the band of the track, “This song tells the true story of a possessed nun who reportedly received messages from Satan at night back in 1676. They were of a language that can’t be decoded to this day. Myths like these are always worthy of becoming a song within the MYSTIC CIRCLE universe, of course. Musically, we kept it diabolical but still infectiously melodic. That diabolicalness has greatly been staged in our new music video. Get seduced…!”

“Letters From The Devil” is part of a trilogy written by the band’s own A. Blackwar.

View the video, filmed and edited by Alen Ljubic and Nils Lesser, at THIS LOCATION.

Following the musical path where Infernal Satanic Verses — the final MYSTIC CIRCLE record featuring both reunion members — had left off in 1999, Mystic Circle was produced by the band and Nils Lesser at Vaultroom Productions while its artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Rafael Tavares.

Preorder Mystic Circle in various formats (box set, CD-digipak, black/red marbled vinyl), presave it, or preorder the album digitally to receive “Letters From The Devil” instantly and order the group’s new Letters From The Devil 7″ black vinyl single, which includes the exclusive, non-album B-side track “The Godsmasher,” limited to 666 copies and available now at THIS LOCATION.

Mystic Circle Track Listing:

1. Belial Is My Name, 2. Seven Headed Dragon, 3. Hell Demons Rising, 4. Letters From The Devil, 5. Darkness In Flames, 6. The Arrival Of Baphomet, 7. Curse Of The Wolf Demon, 8. Satanic Mistress, 9. Death Metal (Possessed Cover) * * CD-digipak only bonus track

Letters From The Devil 7” Track Listing:

Side A: Letters From The Devil

Side B: The Godsmasher

With seven studio albums and many tours alongside black metal heavyweights Marduk, Gorgoroth, and Dimmu Borgir under their belt, it wasn’t just a little history that German black/death metal legends MYSTIC CIRCLE left behind when they decided to call it quits in 2007. But alas, 14 years of silence are over as MYSTIC CIRCLE – consisting of Beelzebub and A. Blackwar who had actually left the group in 1999 – have risen from their graves to renew their deal with the Dark Lord.

ENSIFERUM – Announces North American Headlining Tour With Kalmah, Abigail Williams And Aenimus

ENSIFERUM will embark on their Path To Victory North American headlining tour, featuring support from Kalmah, Abigail Williams, and Aenimus, late this fall. The journey runs from November 14th in Richmond, Virginia through December 8th in Brooklyn, New York.

Comments ENSIFERUM bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka: “It’s time to get back on the road for one last time before we head to studio to record the next ENSIFERUM album and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming North American tour! It’s gonna be fireworks of metal for the whole evening because we’ll share the stage with three awesome bands: Kalmah, Abigail Williams, and Aenimus!” See all confirmed dates below.

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of ENSIFERUM, and with their latest album, Two Paths, they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is the quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection of songs to date as well as their most organic.

The album literally takes the concept of Two Paths to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks “Don’t You Say” and “God Is Dead”. “Even though ENSIFERUM has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,” explains Hinkka. With Mikko P. Mustonen again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both Two Paths and its predecessor, One Man Army. “It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”

Ljubljana’s underground legends NOCTIFERIA, since the beginning (1997) have been spreading their unique style of the Slovenian Extreme Metal Movement. Few could predict what the band and its members would mean for the whole scene in the years to come. Today, just as it sometimes seems that the artists have drained all genres of originality and that all the new musical styles have already been discovered, here comes NOCTIFERIA, bringing something fresh, a style that is uniquely theirs.

OMENFILTH: Philippines Based Black Metal Practitioners To Release Devourer Of The Seven Moons Full-Length Via Eternal Death This April; New Track Streaming + Preorders Available

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on March 6, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

Philippines-based black metal practitioners OMENFILTH will release their third full length, Devourer Of The Seven Moons, on April 12th via Eternal Death.

Following the path of traditional black metal rather than the war metal influences often associated with their place of origin, Devourer Of The Seven Moons showcases the strengths of the band — eerie melodies (“The Embrace Of Solitude”), headbanging fury (“Summon The Beast Of Damnation,” “Seared By The Flames Of Bawo”), and violent upsurges (“Bakuana Ex Inferis”). Appealing more to fans of bands like Varathron or Darkthrone than Blasphemy or Von, Devourer Of The Seven Moons shows that Southeast Asian black metal is more than just sleazy goatworship and miniguns. Following the lyrical themes of the album, the artwork of Dave Fogg is based on the ancient Filipino mythological entity Bakunawa aka “The Devourer Of The Seven Moons.”

Stream / Share OMENFILTH’s “The Embrace Of Solitude” At THIS LOCATION

In advance of its official unveiling, OMENFILTH offers third track, “The Embrace Of Solitude,” for public consumption noting, “This song is a bit more melodic than anything we have previously written – it was put together by guitarist Von Necroticus when he was suffering from a depression and that comes through in the material. In a weird way, it reminds us of old Moonspell. This release is a definitive step in our career and we all think it is very strong album.”

Hear “The Embrace Of Solitude” below:

OMENFILTH‘s Devourer Of The Seven Moons will be released on CD, cassette, and digital formats. The ten-track offering includes three bonus tracks: a cover of Vulcano’s “Bloody Vengeance” and live recordings of “Equinox Of Evil” and “Fading Embers Of A Dying Era,” both from the band’s 2016 Opus Sanguinarium offering. For preorders, visit the Eternal Death Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION.

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on February 3, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

IMPRECATION rises again from the blasted lands of Texas with their darkest spell ever, Damnatio Ad Bestias. IMPRECATION Bio:

Formed in 1991, IMPRECATION has become a vaunted institution in the underground, with their now-classic Theurgia Goetia Summa compilation cited by bands across the globe. They have no need for trendy tags like “old school death metal”, for there is simply death metal as it it was intended – evil, dangerous, and crushing. Beware, for the Beast is upon you!

Long running Minnesota Death/Doom band COLD COLOURS celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2019 with the February 22 release of fifth full-length album Northernmost. In recognition of the winter solstice, the album’s first blast of freezing wind comes in the form of a lyric video for new track “Terminal Winter.”

Vocalist/guitarist Brian J. Huebner had this to say about the band’s milestone:

“If 20 years has taught me anything, it’s that you have to believe in what you are doing. No matter how many roadblocks you hit over two decades. I am thrilled that we have ‘Northernmost’ to celebrate 20 years. Our best album so far? Without question, but more importantly, the best representation of who we are and should be. This album is a testament to the chemistry of the band in 2019.”

Long overdue, Northernmost finds COLD COLOURS in top form as they mine the depths of despair on 12 dynamic compositions guaranteed to satisfy devotees, as well as newcomers with a taste for the likes of AMORPHIS, SWALLOW THE SUN, and INSOMNIUM. Recorded and mixed by drummer Mike Andrie, and mastered to perfection by the legendary Dan Swanö at Sweden’s Unisound, Northernmost is nothing short of exquisite. Welcome to 2019; welcome to your Doom!

Track Listing:

  1. Northernmost I
  2. Nightmare
  3. A Life Forlorn
  4. Northernmost II
  5. From This Pain
