Australian Blackened Thrash Metal Duo HELL MACHINE have released the official video for “Devil Spawn,” a track from new album Relentless Aggression.

HELL MACHINE released sophomore album Relentless Aggression on November 27. The beast is available to stream and/or purchase at the following link:

hellmachine.bandcamp.com/album/relentless-aggression

Arising from the red metal sands of Central Australia is HELL MACHINE. Equal parts Thrash and Black Metal, the deuce of Dave Hellrazor (Bass/Vocals) and Mal Machine (Drums) are a finely tuned weapon borne of searing desert heat and old-school heavy metal influence.

2018 saw the release of their first division of liturgies – Merciless Hate – before HELL MACHINE exploded onto stages, including cult underground festivals Blacken Open Air and Hell On The Bay. Congregations of crazed fans have been left wanting more ever since.

Now as 2021 closes, HELL MACHINEcome armed again with another sonic rampage in Relentless Aggression. Eighttracks expertly crafted and recorded at Pony Music in Melbourne. The new disc lays siege to the temples of hypocrisy, and night terrors to feeble happy clapping stooges. Upon closing, nothing is left but particles of the faithful.

2022 will see HELL MACHINE deploy their large-calibre assault at Steel Assassins 10 (Sydney) and Churches of Steel Festival (Adelaide). Forewarned is forearmed. Get ready to ride into the dust on power strokes of razor sharp riffs, relentless drumming and the sledgehammer attack ofthe one and only HELL MACHINE! This is the adrenaline charge that fans of blackened thrash need.

Track Listing:

  1. Devil Spawn

Hey everybody, Stone here! I went to see Act Of Defiance at Oddbody’s in Dayton Ohio, back on June 16th of 2016. Accompanying me was Robert (Rob) Nickell; an old friend of mine and professional photographer. All of these fabulous concert photos featured in this post are credited to Rob.

Not appearing in a photo here is the legendary drummer Shawn Drover. Trust me, Shawn was creating plenty of thunder behind his drum kit on that night! Shawn is also an ex-member of MEGADETH.

Yes, 2016. How or why it took me over 5 years to finally publish these photos of such an amazing Metal supergroup? Regardless, I’ve rediscovered them in the Metal Odyssey archives and they’re to be enjoyed now and forever! Thank you Act Of Defiance for killing it on that night! Thank you, Robert Nickell for the camera talent!

Above photo: Chris Broderick / guitarist

I remember this concert being high octane! Chris Broderick shredded on guitar and played to the crowd with his constant smiles of appreciation. A true thrill it was for me, to see such a legendary Metal guitarist so close up! Yes, I was psyched outta my mind that night!

Above: Chris Broderick gives back the horns to his fans. Chris also is an ex-member of world-class Metal bands: Jag Panzer, Nevermore and MEGADETH.

On this tour, Act Of Defiance were out supporting their debut studio album: Birth And The Burial. This album was released back in August of 2015, via Metal Blade Records. I highly recommend both studio albums that Act Of Defiance created! Their second album was released back in 2017, titled: Old Scars, New Wounds (Metal Blade Records).

Above: Henry Derek (vocalist). Henry is also an ex-member of Thrown Into Exile and Scar The Martyr.

Vocalist Henry Derek was outstanding! He was a thrill to see and hear live! Henry is an underrated Metal vocalist and that’s my Metal fact for the day.

Above: Matt Bachand (bassist) – Matt is also a founding member, rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist for the mighty Shadows Fall.

FULLMINATOR – To Release New Single

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on December 4, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Ex-Intergalactic warlords cloned from the evil cosmic conquer Colonel Roach to better fulfil his crusade of universal dominance, have successfully concealed their identity as the crossover thrash metal band, FULLMINATOR. Having escaped through a prototype dimensional portal called the Nexus, they appeared in the streets of Puerto Rico in the year 2016 and have remained ever since.

“We at FULLMINATOR want to present to you our latest single “Cyberpathic” all the way from the year 2078, punch deck and get ahead of the simulation!”

The new single, “Cyberpathic”, was inspired by the cyberpunk aesthetic and themes of William Gibson’s Neuromancer and The Matrix trilogy. A mash-up of fictional and factual political theories is paired up with the melodic fun, along with the style of the streets of Chiba City and the fast pace of a speed-fuelled run through cyberspace. “Cyberpathic” explodes into life with energetic instrumentation, delicious distortion and powerful percussion.

FULLMINATOR are a powerhouse of hard-hitting metal with a galactic twist. Effects and electronics emerge through the immense thrash sound adding a theatrical punch of personality. If you were born before 2000 you may catch the throwback to the early era of the internet. Intricate guitar leads, aggressive vocals and utter full-throttle enthusiasm makes for a thrilling listening experience.

FULLMINATOR deliver an epic fusion of sci-fi, speed and sheer creativity. The outfit have produced a release that will appeal to thrash lovers and space travellers alike. It’s loud, with a pace close to lightspeed and utterly fun.

The song is out on Dec 10th 2021.

Bay Area Thrashers INFEX Release Lyric Video For “The Abyss”

Posted in Metal with tags , , , on July 8, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Bay Area Thrashers INFEX have released a lyric video for “The Abyss,” a track from forthcoming album Burning in Exile. The video was directed and edited by Lance Woodruff. Commence thrashing at youtu.be/k-4IbkTi9dk or below:

Concerning the lyrical inspiration for “The Abyss,” the band had this to say:

“The Abyss was inspired by the famous quote from Friedrich Nietzsche – ‘Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.’

We find the quote relatable more than ever in today’s super-charged political and existential social climates. That which we hate, we become. The Abyss is a metaphor for the oppressive anxiety of the modern day social climate. It’s like staring into the darkness of the Abyss, overwhelmed with fear of what happens when we come out the other side. As it consumes you, you become one with it, and panic attack becomes the daily norm.”

INFEX will self-release Burning in Exile on August 13th on CD, digital and limited edition red translucent 12″ vinyl formats.

Pre-orders are available now at: infex.bandcamp.com/album/burning-in-exile

In case you missed it, check out the official video for album track “Acid Reign” at youtu.be/EDjRsqTlfCE

Line-up:
Jack – Guitars and Vocals, Adam – Guitars and vocals, RC – Bass and vocals, Corey – Drums

Though the sound of Burning inExile is firmly anchored in a ripping form of thrash metal, elements of old school hardcore and crossover metal are present as well. Having grown up during the Thrash Metal heyday and listening to genre pioneers like Exodus, Kreator, Destruction, Slayer, Dark Angel and the like, along with old-school hardcore influences like Discharge, Attitude Adjustment, Cryptic Slaughter, DRI, and Excel, INFEX blends the styles of all these and more into a raw outpouring of aggression and anger.

Burning in Exile was recorded at Trident Studios in Martinez, CA (Machine Head, Vio-Lence, Testament, Exodus). It was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Juan UrteagaINFEX booked the studio time in late 2019 and began recording in March of 2020, right as the Covid-19 pandemic became serious. Due to the lockdown, the recording sessions were spaced out further than anticipated, resulting in the inspiration for the album title, Burning in Exile.
The band’s album release show happens on August 14th at 3 Disciples Brewing in Santa Rosa, California.

2 – The Burning

3 – Exiled

WAR CURSE “Final Days” – A Scorching Thrash Metal Debut From 2015

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on December 23, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

The last time I saw War Curse live it was at Oddbody’s in Dayton, Ohio and they lit the place up! Of course that was before the Covid nightmare; I figure it was four years ago or so. Regardless, I am chomping at the bit to see War Curse live again many more times.

War Curse originate from Cincinnati, Ohio and could have fit in rather appropriately during the golden age of Thrash. I’m not bullshitting you. I experienced that beginning era of Thrash Metal (in the pits) and I take my Thrash seriously. War Curse has had some lineup changes since their 2015 debut release Final Days and are currently preparing for their 2021 live dates.

Since the release of Final Days, War Curse have released a full-length studio album in 2019 titled: Eradication. If you want to sink your Metal battered brain into Final Days then you have my Metal blessings. I bought Final Days on cassette from the merch table at the War Curse show. Needless to say, I have played this cassette so often it feels like an appendage. I have a cassette player built into my 21 year old car, just in case you were wondering.

Above: my War Curse Final Days cassette

The vocalist for War Curse on this debut is Tarek Puska and he manifests all of the brawn and dominance I look for in a Metal voice. War Curse doesn’t try to be like any other Thrash band; however they do a dynamite undertaking of being, well, War Curse. Guitarists Joshua Murphy and Justin Roth are a formidable duo and a blast to get into. Damn good stuff. Eric Payne on bass and James Goetz on drums lay down the rhythmic foundation on Final Days.

The songs on Final Days are lyrically pissed-off and find their footing to be 100% relevant in this dreadful year of 2020. Find it, buy it, borrow it, listen to it and whatever you do play this debut from War Curse extremely loud! Metal be thy name – Stone.

Above: my variant (and extremely limited) copy of War Curse Final Days, with different artwork and green cassette shell; track listing is the same.

Track listing:

Dawn Patrol, Blue Line of Injustice, Severed Crosses, Final Days, New Chemical Warfare, Drudge

VITAMIN X – Amsterdam-Based Hardcore Punk Act To Release New LP Through Southern Lord This Spring

Southern Lord welcomes Amsterdam, Holland’s long-running hardcore punk kings VITAMIN X to the label for the upcoming release of the band’s sixth full-length recording, Age Of Paranoia.

VITAMIN X has unloaded their energetic brand of rock and thrash-soaked hardcore punk since the late 1990s. Having operated through diehard DIY efforts, the band has amassed an arsenal of albums, EPs, singles, splits, and more across a wide array of underground labels, including Havoc Records, Tankcrimes, Underestimated, AgiPunk, Refuse Records, and many others. Their most recent two LPs were recorded by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Iggy Pop, Neurosis), and their 2016-released ”About To Crack” video went viral and reached more than a million views.

Well-known for their energetic and explosive live shows which attract fans from across the metal, punk, and rock spectrum, VITAMIN X has toured around the world several times, from Japan to the United States, from South America to Southeast Asia, and beyond. The band has played on MTV and many large fests including Hellfest, Maryland Deathfest, and many others, and recently toured with Baroness and Harley Flannagan’s Cro-Mags.

The newest chapter in the band’s lineage, the new VITAMIN X full-length, Age Of Paranoia, was recorded by Igor Wouters at ARC Studios in Amsterdam. Packing sixteen volatile tracks into a white-knuckled twenty-eight minutes, Age Of Paranoia surges with rapid-fire punk angst packed with ripping rock leads and raised-fist gang-chant anthems. The album includes several special guest guitar solos by J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr., Witch) and Bubba Dupree (Void, Soundgarden, Dave Grohl’s Probot, Brant Bjork), and is completed with cover artwork is by Marald (Baroness, Kylesa, High On Fire).

VITAMIN X states of their liaison with Southern Lord, “This will be our first release on a major/bigger label as we’ve always operated in the do-it-yourself scene, even though bigger labels were interested in us in the past. We feel Southern Lord really fits with us, and Greg Anderson is an amazing guy, who just like us, comes from a hardcore punk background but is also into all kinds of other styles of music.”

BEHEMOTH To Support SLAYER On The North American Leg Of Their Final World Tour Alongside Lamb Of God, Anthrax, And Testament

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , , on January 26, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

SLAYER - Lamb Of God - Anthrax - Behemoth - tour flyer - 2018 - #333MO8383ILMNTG

BEHEMOTH, along with Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Testament, all bands who have close ties to and have shared the stage multiple times with Slayer over the years, will accompany the band on leg one, North America, of what will be Slayer’s final world tour. The trek begins May 10th when a twenty-six-date odyssey will have them crisscrossing the country, from San Diego to Toronto, Orlando to Minneapolis. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, January 26th; log onto www.behemoth.pl for all ticketing info.

“If you are lucky enough to be invited to play even just once with living legends like Slayer, it’s an incredible honor. Slayer gave Lamb Of God our very first two overseas shows. Slayer has subsequently taken us on several full-length tours, both at home and abroad. The guys in Slayer and their crew have also always been very, very cool to our band. It is irrefutable that Slayer helped create the genre of aggressive metal, and all modern bands of that ilk owe them a huge debt – I know we do. To be asked to be a part of their final tour – well, it just makes you stop and realize just how lucky you are. Hail Slayer! We’ll see you on the road…” – Randy Blythe, Lamb Of God

“It’s truly an honor to be on Slayer’s final tour. Anthrax and Slayer have toured together for decades, we are family, band and crew, so we want to help give Slayer the best send-off possible, and to have one last blast with our friends. But you know, at the end of the day, Slayer will never die.” – Frank Bello, Anthrax

“Well, well, well… the dream comes true AGAIN it seems. BEHEMOTH will be teaming up with mighty Slayer again for another extensive North American run later this year! Nothing short of epic if you ask me! I cannot wait to confront American legions again before we unleash the new record. One of the biggest metal tours this year: Testament, BEHEMOTH, Anthrax, Lamb Of God and Slayer. Can you miss it out? FUCK NO!” – Nergal, BEHEMOTH

“Sharing the stage with Slayer once again is going to be an honor, and to be a part of the final tour is going to be a special privilege for us. Slayer has influenced so many aggressive bands in their career. This tour will be an epic time for all who attend. Do yourself a favor and clear your calendars when this show comes to town. This will be your last chance to see a tour like this. Get ready North America for the devastation.” – Chuck Billy, Testament

Chilean Thrashers NUCLEAR have released a new video, covering DEATH’s classic “Evil Dead.” Originally released 29 years ago and given NUCLEAR’s extreme makeover,  the video includes tour footage, as well as shots from the recording sessions of the band’s latest release Formula For Anarchy (Candlelight Records 2015). Check out the video below or at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoJftcHhWp8&hd=1

NUCLEAR had this to say about the video: “It is just our humble tribute to one of the greatest musicians metal music had the opportunity to listen. Chuck Schuldiner’s indelible mark is still influencing tons of new metal acts around the world and Scream Bloody Gore was one hell of a start for all of us”

NUCLEAR is currently working on new material and a new album is expected to be released in 2017 by Candlelight/Spinefarm Records.

Formula for Anarchy, the ferocious new album from  NUCLEAR, is out now on Candlelight Records. Purchase and/or stream tracks at:
