SAINTS OF THE UNDERGROUND – LOVE THE SIN, HATE THE SINNER
So here we have a fine group of well established Hard Rock/Metal musicians known as S.O.T.U., abbreviated for Saints Of The Underground. Lead singer Jani Lane (Warrant), drummer Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), lead guitarist Keri Kelli (currently with Alice Cooper) and bassist Robbie Crane. Knowing the bands where these guys are from, you pretty much know what you are going to get here, which is fun, good times, hard rocking Metal. The songs do not have the retrospective Hair Metal thumping going on, instead, what you hear is rather relevant to today’s Hard Rock/Metal sound. “Dead Man Shoes” is a terrific opening track, it really sets the tone for the entire disc.
“American Girl” is a cover of Tom Petty’s enormous hit and S.O.T.U. give it a memorable garage band (kind of) sound and feel to it, which turns out not too shabby at all! Jani Lane on vocals does not come across as the flamboyant Warrant frontman; still, he really sounds very cool and convincing on this album. Musically, these guys are tried and true, seasoned pros and sound as such on this album. If you are a fan of the 1980’s Hard Rock, Arena Rock and/or Hair Metal scene, you’re in heaven here. If you (for whatever reason) are not aware of Warrant, Ratt, or Alice Cooper, do not hesitate to have Saints Of The Underground catch you up to speed on their current cool sound. – Stone
