Danish Prog-Power Metal Masters PYRAMAZE Reveal Music Video For New Song “Broken Arrow”!

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on February 10, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

PYRAMAZE are an exceptional phenomenon in the international prog- and power metal scene. Their sound brings along numerous traditional melodic and progressive metal trademarks, but gets an immensely high recognition value by their unique feeling for great melodies – in connection with a certain open-mindedness for contemporary arrangements and further development.

It’s no secret that the band is currently working on a new album – and already the first single “Broken Arrow” stands as the epitome of what PYRAMAZE is about. Cast in a first-class production by PYRAMAZE guitarist and renowned producer Jacob Hansen, the track is elevated to highest quality realms not least by the fabulous organ of singer Terje Harøy.

Says keyboardist Jonah Weingarten: “Broken Arrow represents the perfect mixture of Disciples of the Sun- Pyramaze era with a splash of our modern Epitaph sound. It has the big chorus, huge strings, big powerful vocals, and catchy melodies that we are known for. It was an easy choice for our first single for our upcoming album!”

Ari Lempinen comments:
“In the song The Monster…The King we wanted to give more room to the instruments to tell the story supporting the vocals. The song flows with tasty solos and tight riffs in synergy with Marko’s vocals and dances between succulent blasting and a relaxing respite. The music reflects the atmosphere of the lyrics, which dive deep into a dreamlike space where the monsters and kings within us are in juxtaposition. The music video features the skilled breakdancer Jose Granados aka Bboy Kalaco who interprets the mood and the message of the song with his skillful moves.

Prog Metal Heavy Weights REDEMPTION Release New, Melodic Anthem “Seven Minutes From Sunset”

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, progressive metal band with tags , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

New Album, “I Am The Storm”, Out On March 17, 2023 Via AFM Records!

Following the band’s recent announcement, to release their forthcoming, eighth studio offering I Am The Storm on March 17, 2023 through AFM Records, today, Los Angeles-based progressive metal masters Redemption have unleashed a brand new single! By the end of 2022, the band already shared a first album foretaste with a music video for the colossal album title track I Am The Storm.

Band mastermind Nicolas van Dyk reveals: “If I Am The Storm showcases the heaviest aspect of Redemption, Seven Minutes From Sunset showcases a more melodic metal current of prog metal, as Someone Else’s Problem did on our last CD. As for the lyrics…they’re a metaphor. For the listener to decipher.”

Listen to “Seven Minutes From Sunset”, now streaming HERE

Get the song on all digital platforms HERE!

Redemption belongs to one of the leading progressive metal bands in the heavy music world today. Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000 by guitarist / keyboardist / songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features iconic vocalist Thomas England of Evergrey, the rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and bassist Sean Andrews, as well as keyboard phenom Vikram Shankar.

As the album title already promises, I Am The Storm is a gripping, stirring, overwhelming and dramatic, new record by the power prog metal act. Combining unapologetic melodies and hooks with technicality, complexity and thundering riffs, Redemption once again occupies a unique place with its powerful, heavy, intelligent and deeply emotional music.

I Am The Storm was produced by van Dyk, Vikram Shankar and sound engineer/guitarist Simone Mularoni (DGM), who – alongside Chris Poland (ex-Megadeth) and Henrik Danhage (Evergrey) – will be also featured as a guest musician on the album. The new Redemption record also contains two cover songs, ‘Turn It On Again’ by Genesis and ‘Red Rain’ by Peter Gabriel.

Set to commence on September 16th in Worcester, Massachusetts and run through October 16th in Atlanta, Georgia, the month-long trek includes a stop at this year’s editions of the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky and Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California. Support will be provided by Torche throughout the tour’s duration as well as special guests Converge from September 16th through September 30th and In Flames from October 2nd through the tour’s conclusion. MESHUGGAH will be touring in support of their critically lauded Immutable full-length, released earlier this year via Atomic Fire. Recorded at Sweetspot Studios in Halmstad, Sweden, mixed by Rickard Bengtsson and Staffan Karlsson, and mastered by multiple Grammy award winner Vlado Meller (Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System Of A Down), the band’s ninth studio album and follow-up to their Grammy-nominated full-length The Violent Sleep Of Reason showcases just how far ahead of the pack the band continues to be.

Full of surprises and yet instantly recognizable as the work of metal’s most idiosyncratic force, Immutable redefines and redesigns the MESHUGGAH sound across more than an hour of the most stimulating and engaging music the band has ever composed. Despite the challenges of the last few years, the progressive principles that have always cemented the band’s artistic efforts remain as steadfast as ever. As we spiral towards a dystopian MESHUGGAH still stands unique with Immutable, their most fearlessly creative studio album to date.

AVELION – Italian Progressive Metallers Release New Single “Bound To Blackness”

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, Power Metal, prog metal music with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 3, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

The flagbearers of modern Italian progressive metal, AVELION, have been churning out bombastic singles for more than a decade, dropping a string of releases that have been helping shape the genre. In 2022, they return with “Bound To Blackness”, the first single recorded with new vocalist Riccardo Rizzardelli.

The song – recorded, produced and mixed by Simone Mularoni – is now available at THIS LOCATION.

“‘Bound To Blackness’ is a song that manages to encompass all the main elements of our music: melody, groove, oddly shifting time signatures, electronics, ambient and cinematic arrangements, as well as dense progressive instrumental sections. We worked very hard in the studio with Simone Mularoni to create a truly original and modern mix, suitable not only for progressive metal fans, but also for power and melodic metal listeners, as well as for djent and modern metal enthusiasts.

We can’t wait to take old fans and new listeners on this journey through the different nuances that make up our sound. The concept of the song is open to each listener’s interpretation, but there is a message of self development and inner growth, which involves awareness, acceptance and finally overcoming our darkest side. It’s a song about fighting your inner nightmares to find yourself. A journey in which acceptance and redemption are to be sought within ourselves”.

Each AVELION release expands and clarifies the band’s mission to bring forth the most dynamic sonic offerings. Marrying progressive and modern metal influences, AVELION approach each song as a unique opportunity to destroy and rebuild the listener’s perception.

About “The Enemy” single, Ari commenting:

“We wanted to create a video that has a nice balance of story and the band playing. Originally we planned this to be purely the band playing the song but the place we found for the shoot inspired us to add a story element. Joalin Loukamaa did an excellent job in our last video and we asked if she would join the project. Fortunately she said yes and did an amazing job again. We got Saku Suominen from Sakuvisuals to direct and work his magic behind the camera and we had an absolute blast filming this. We feel that the atmosphere of the video and the song complement each other in just the right way and the finished product definitely makes us proud.

The Enemy is a song that starts out fast and aggressive and really carries that momentum from start to finish. It is one of the heaviest songs that we have made so far. When that intro explodes you know that we’re going somewhere fast. But at the same time when the vocal melodies kick in they steer the song into a different direction than you might expect, still carrying the aggressive momentum. That element of surprise is really what crowns the song for me. The Enemy has one of the best melodies we have written in my opinion and Marko’s delivery is just absolutely breathtaking. The lyrics talk about freedom, victory and survival, but they also have connotations to the questionable interpretations of those subjects. The message can be interpreted as positively empowering, but also as a disturbingly delusional illusion.”

ARCHON ANGEL – Releasing Debut Album “Fallen” On February 14, 2020

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , , on January 17, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

From Frontiers Music srl:

Archon Angel was born from a meeting between producer/guitarist Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere) and former Savatage and Circle II Circle vocalist Zak Stevens during the making of Timo Tolkki’s Avalon’s ‘Return To Eden’ album, of which Aldo produced and played guitar and Zak did some guest lead vocals. The two soon started talking to Frontiers about the concept of working on new music together, which was met with great enthusiasm from the label.

Aldo submitted to Zak some song ideas which were reminiscent of the classic Savatage sound, the two felt the magic was there, and thus no time was wasted in getting together to craft an absolutely striking metal album. Aldo was also helped in the songwriting department by some of the most outstanding writers and musicians from the Italian Rock scene including Simone Mularoni (of DGM and Sweet Oblivion) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Aldo’s bandmate in Edge of Forever and of course Jorn, Hardline, etc.).

The album itself deals with a central character, the “Archon”, who is a modern-day angel figure. The idea goes back to the religious system of Gnosticism. The only difference is that we are immersing the Archon’s story into modern-day times. The Archon is a medium that brings messages to God (Demiurge) from the people of Earth. The only real concept to the album is that they simply follow the story and life and times of the modern-day “Archon” and his life, as he is called upon to protect the people of the earth through frightening turbulent times.

On the first single, vocalist Zak Stevens says, “The title track accompanies the Archon on his journey in transitioning from a successful businessman, who leads a life of excess and egoism, to a superhero who will clean up the city and eventually, save the world from self-destruction. In the song, he is reminiscing about his past and the family he left behind, while summoning the power that called him to save the world to “hear him.”

About the filming of the video, Zak continues, “After an arduous search for the perfect city and videographer, we settled on Pittsburgh, PA for my scenes. The band was filmed in Genova, Italy, near the famous Porto Antico. In Pittsburgh, we shot atop Mt. Washington, overlooking downtown, much like the Archon would be doing as he pondered his future. The weather didn’t cooperate the first day as it was a rainy day. But one of the coolest moments occurred while filming the video….one of the locations was right across from Heinz Field during a Pittsburgh Steelers [football] game. At the apex of the song, the crowd erupted in cheering at the perfect time, and people who were watching us film were caught by surprise. It really contributed to my overall mindset during that portion of the song. I felt like they were cheering for the Archon and it mimicked a true live performance. I can’t wait to get out there and perform this song live with Archon Angel.”

Archon Angel are currently working on booking some live shows to present the band in the live environment, but their exclusive live premiere will happen at the 2020 edition of the 70000 Tons Of Metal Cruise.

If Savatage is a favorite of yours, then Archon Angel’s “Fallen” may well be your album of the year in 2020!

WITHERFALL “Vintage” – New EP Releasing On March 22nd

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on January 18, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

In November 2018, US dark melodic metal act WITHERFALL released its much-celebrated second studio album, “A Prelude to Sorrow”. Never resting on its laurels, the group led by the creative duo comprised of vocalist Josheph Michael (Sanctuary) and Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth) now announces the “Vintage” CD, LP, and digital release to be available during the upcoming acoustic tour with Sonata Arctica and released via Century Media Records on March 22nd, 2019.

PRE ORDER AT:

http://www.witherfall.com/merch

WITHERFALL reveals:

“During the sessions for “A Prelude to Sorrow” two cover songs were recorded that showed a different side of WITHERFALL, originally intended to be bonus tracks. A dark and somber version of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers “I Won’t Back Down’ with vocals recorded with Michael Wagener (Metallica, Skid Row) and an epic version of the Helloween classic ‘A Tale That Wasn’t Right’. With the announcement of the “ Sonata Arctica: Acoustic Adventures 2019 w/Witherfall”, it was decided to release these covers along with a few acoustic renditions of favorite WITHERFALL tracks.

Along with new keyboardist Alex Nasla and session percussionist Timbali Cornwell (Smokey Robinson, Earth Wind & Fire ), Joseph Michael, Jake Dreyer and Anthony Crawford retreated to Harmony Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA (Adele, Miley Cyrus) armed with acoustic guitars and bottles of wine to start working on acoustic arrangements for the tour. The sessions were fruitful and two acoustic versions of past WITHERFALL songs were recorded: a medley of ‘Vintage’ and ‘Nobody Sleeps Here…’ (originally on “Nocturnes and Requiems”) and an alternate arrangement of ‘Ode to Despair’. Instead of keeping these as secrets and finally making the rare ‘The Long Walk Home (December)’ also available to an audience outside of Japan, the “Vintage” EP offers a collection of music that shows another dimension of the WITHERFALL sound.”

Mixed and mastered by Chris Zeuss Harris and again featuring artwork by Kristian Wåhlin, “Vintage” will be released as strictly limited, hand-numbered CD digipak, on black and limited coloured vinyl as well as on all digital platforms.

WITHERFALL already have kicked off the presale of “Vintage” at www.witherfall.com/merch whereas the worldwide digital and physical pre-order via Century Media Records starts January 25th. Furthermore, the “Vintage” EP also features new keyboardist Alex Nasla who will join WITHERFALL on the group’s upcoming European tour kicking off March 13th in Oslo, Norway.

ODDLAND – Sensory Records Issues September Release Info For Sensory Records-Bound “Origin” Album; Trailer Posted

ODDLAND‘s second album, Origin was partly recorded by the band, the rest captured at Fantom Studio (Insomnium, Korpiklaani, Oranssi Pazuzu) after which it was mixed and mastered by Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir). Containing over forty-five minutes of music, the album bears a theme which ties deeply into the lyrics and extensive artwork, with a separate piece of art created by Egyptian artist Mohammed Essam for each of the nine songs.

“We didn’t really know what was in store when we started writing songs for Origin,” issues the band. “Creating this album took us way longer than we first imagined. We had an initial vision of what we wanted Origin to be, but it really took time to get there. Every song went through an endless set of revisions before they were finished. We feel we have expanded and evolved ODDLAND‘s sound with Origin: it is low and it is heavy, but the rhythms and melodies are still what carry the songs. Lyrically the album is tied together by the idea that the lyrics represent our origin: what has made us what we are – individually and collectively. Mohammad really contributed into making the ideas and atmospheres of the songs come to life visually. We can’t wait for people to experience the album.”

View the brief trailer for ODDLAND’s Origin at THIS LOCATION or below:

Laser’s Edge subdivision Sensory Records will release Origin worldwide on September 9th. More expansive previews of the album will be presented through audio and visual samples, in the weeks leading to its unveiling.

ODDLAND has also signed with mighty Dutch booking entity, Loud Noise, who will aid the band in delivering their new album to fans across the European continent over the coming months.

Founded in 2003 in Turku, Finland, ODDLAND stylistically incorporates a broad spectrum of tones and methods into their forward-thinking delivery, melding aggressive tones, spacious textures, and glorious melodies into a seamless and cohesive entity. Following a string of successful demos, the band was signed to Century Media for the 2012 release of their The Treachery Of Senses debut album. Mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö, the record was greeted with a barrage of critical acclaim, including praise from top-tier publications like Rock Tribune, Metal Hammer, Inferno and many others, and praised as the best Prog-Metal record ever recorded in Finland.

ODDLAND has performed at a number of festivals including FME, Tuska, Headway, and Progpower Europe, in addition to many shows alongside the likes of established acts including Soen, Leprous, Swallow the Sun, Omnium Gatherum, Amoral and more throughout Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Lithuania, and beyond.

Sweden’s masters of dark Progressive Metal, WOLVERINE, have just issued an official lyric video for Machina, the second track on the band’s Sensory Records-bound fifth album, Machina Viva. The “Machina” video is exposed to the public through an exclusive premiere via New Noise Magazine, alongside interesting commentary on the track by the band members.

Tune in to New Noise Magazine and see WOLVERINE’s “Machina” video at THIS LOCATION.

WOLVERINE‘s first title for the Laser’s Edge Metal division, Sensory Records, Machina Viva will see worldwide release on July 8th. A trailer for the album has also been issued right HERE.

Recorded and produced by WOLVERINE in various locations throughout Sweden during the Autumn and Winter months of late 2015 and early 2016, Machina Viva was mixed at Spacelab Studio in Germany by Christian “Moschus” Moos (Everon, Haken, Delain, Cloverseeds), and mastered by Grammy Award winning audio engineer Bob Katz. A natural progression from the band’s previous album, Communication Lost, released in 2011 via Candlelight Records, Machina Viva invites the listener into the harmonious yet portentous and sullen musical dimensions of WOLVERINE with perhaps their most dynamic album to date.

From the fourteen-minute epic and powerful “The Bedlam Overture” and the dark electronic landscapes of “Machina,” to the naked and organic nature of “Pile Of Ash” and “Sheds,” Machina Viva is the next step in Wolverine’s explorations in the progressive field. The layout features microbiological photos by Arturo Agostino and cover art by drummer Marcus Losbjer. Additionally, the CD edition will bear an additional bonus cello version of “Pile Of Ash.”

Additional audio from the album, preorders, tour dates, and more will be issued over the weeks ahead.

WOLVERINE – Sensory Records Signs Swedish Progressive Metal Quintet; Fifth Studio Full-Length Coming This Summer

Laser’s Edge division, Sensory Records, is proud to announce the label’s signing of Swedish progressive metal kingpins, WOLVERINE, for the Summer release of the band’s mighty fifth studio full-length release, Machina Viva.

A natural progression from Communication Lost, released in 2011 via Candlelight Records, Machina Viva invites the listener into the harmonious yet portentous and sullen musical dimensions of WOLVERINE with perhaps their most dynamic album to date. From the fourteen-minute epic and powerful “The Bedlam Overture” and the dark electronic landscapes of “Machina”, to the naked and organic nature of “Pile of Ash” and “Sheds,” Machina Viva is the next step in Wolverine’s explorations in the progressive field.

Laser’s Edge/Sensory owner Ken Golden states of the signing, “WOLVERINE has been on my radar since their first release, The Window Purpose, back in 2001. I’ve followed their progression through the years and I’m honored to have them on the Sensory roster.”

Issues WOLVERINE on signing with Sensory Records, “We are very happy to work with someone like Ken and Sensory that has a genuine passion for and interest in the kind of music that we play.”

Machina Viva is being finalized for early Summer worldwide release; stand by for a confirmed release date and more on the album in the days ahead.

Swedish progressive act WOLVERINE was formed in 1995 by vocalist Stefan Zell and drummer Marcus Losbjer. Initially the band was all about death metal, but they soon allowed a more melodic approach to influence their sound. Since their inception, the band has pushed out of boundaries of heavy metal and evolved through inventiveness and explorative ambition, now incorporating a wider spectrum of musical elements into their own progressive sound.

Following the release of their Fervent Dream debut EP (1999, Zizania Entertainment Group), WOLVERINE has released four well-received albums through a variety of notable labels including The Window Purpose (2001, DVS), Cold Light Of Monday (2003, Earache), Still (2006, Candlelight, and Communication Lost (2011, Candlelight).

WOLVERINE was the first band on the bill of the first European edition of the ProgPower Festival in 1999. Since then, the band has performed at that festival several times with great acclaim. In 2006 WOLVERINE did a short UK tour supporting Anathema, and their first US appearance was at the ProgPower USA festival in 2013. Besides playing a regular heavy set on the main stage of the festival, a special stripped down set was also performed to an overwhelming response.

EYE – Ohio-Based Psychedelic Rock Quartet Signs With Laser’s Edge; New Album Due This Summer

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on March 27, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

EYE - promo band pic - 2016 - #MOILMF779

Laser’s Edge this week announces the addition of Ohio based quartet, EYE, to the label’s ever-expanding roster, as the band puts the finishing touches on their fourth record for release.

The music EYE generates is technical, thought driven and atmospheric, but also very dirty and simple, an aesthetic the band refers to as “garage-prog.” Retro in style without sliding into stoner rock, EYE is driven by a love of raw, fist-pounding 1970s Heavy Metal and progressive-space rock, tempered by mind warping 1960s psychedelic music. With decades of experience as musicians, and armed with an arsenal of vintage synthesizers, effects and gear, EYE bewitches audiences live throughout the Midwest region from their home base in Columbus, Ohio.

EYE continues to connect with established fans and newcomers alike with their fourth release, Vision And The Ageless Light, their first album through Laser’s Edge, which is due this Summer. Featuring vintage keys, mellotron, accomplished and dynamic songs, including an epic, full-side encompassing track, Vision And The Ageless Light will be the first EYE release to include new members: bassist Michael Sliclen and guitarist Jon Finley.

EYE - promo - 2016 - #MOILMF99

The brainchild of drummer Brandon Smith, EYE‘s sound was fully realized in partnership with keyboardist/guitarist Lisa Bella Donna, who also engineered and mixed the first album, Center Of The Sun. The album was released on LP by Kemado Records in 2012, after which Lisa joined as a full-time member and work began on the sophomore album, Second Sight, which was independently released in 2013. EYE soon followed it with the live-in-the-studio Live At Relay album on LP and cassette through Dangerous Age Records in 2014. The impending Vision And The Ageless Light will be a welcome and exciting addition for both EYE and The Laser’s Edge catalogs.

Stand by for more info on Vision And The Ageless Light in the weeks ahead, followed by touring in support of the album through the Summer and Fall months. In the meantime, EYE will join an array of other local artists at a special show this Friday, March 25th dubbed, Columbus To Syria, in order to raise awareness of the global Syrian refugee crisis. The band will also support the mighty Zombi in Columbus on May 13th.

5/13/2016 Ace Of Cups – Columbus, OH w/ Zombi [info]
