Debut Album Dread Cycle Out August 14th

The new video from Tasmanian death metal devils THE ABSOLUTION SEQUENCE is now streaming. “The Nightlight Sigil” is the third single off the band’s highly-anticipated full-length album, Dread Cycle.

Vocalist Shawn Wells calls the song the most personal track on Dread Cycle. “The Nightlight Sigil is a tale of family trauma, toxic home environments and the way in which one is treated in the aftermath. Often those who have suffered the most where they are meant to feel protected are shamed and forgotten. The aim of this is to keep the conversation alive, and begin to heal these deep wounds.”

Slated for release via Bleeding Art Collective, with distribution by Blood Blast Distribution, Dread Cycle is set to solidify the band’s position as a premier name in contemporary technical death metal.

Dread Cycle is due out on August 14.

Technical death metal juggernauts PSYCROPTIC present their new single, “No Blade Of Grass.” The track comes off the band’s impending new full-length, and first for Metal Blade RecordsThe Pulse Of Annihilation, set for release on July 17th.

“This one has a good blend of old-school PSYCROPTIC-style riffage and slightly sludge filled, loosey-goosey sections straight outta the classic death metal era,” remarks guitarist Joe Haley. “The whole thing is brought together with the choral/orchestral chorus. Something for everyone! Going to be a fun one to rip live!”

Bassist Todd Stern agrees, “It’s an unbelievably catchy tune! The main verse is one of my favorite bits on the whole record. Classic riffage, steam rolling the whole song forward with solid momentum all along. Badass.”

Adds vocalist Jason Peppiatt, “I had so much fun with this song as it was the first song that [vocalist Jason] Keyser had written for the band and it was awesome to have someone bring different ideas to the table than what I normally would. Vocally it’s nice and fast and has a real sick flow and groove to vocal parts.”

Watch PSYCROPTIC’s “No Blade Of Grass” video HERE.

Watch PSYCROPTIC’s previously released video for first single, “Gathering A Venomous Herd,” HERE.

Across The Pulse of Annihilation, PSYCROPTIC sounds focused, disciplined, and fully aware of their trajectory. Complexity remains foundational, but it is now guided by compositional restraint and veteran confidence. With this release, the band reaffirm their status not merely as technical death metal stalwarts, but as architects actively shaping its future, proving that mastery, sharpened by time, only grows more lethal.

The Pulse Of Annihilation features cover art by Belial Necroarts (Gaerea, In Aeternum) and will be available on digipak CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

World Ablaze (Tiger’s Eye) – (US)
Sleepy Hollow (Radioactive Dust) – (US)
180g Black – (EU – Ltd. 500)
Barren Waste (Swamp Green Gold Melt) – (EU – Ltd. 250)
Fires Of Time (Gold Black Splatter) – (EU – Ltd. 250)

PSYCROPTIC will join labelmates Rivers Of Nihil for a short run of Australian dates this August with support provided by Growth and Slaughtercult. 8/27/2026 Space Odd – Tokyo, JP

For over two decades, PSYCROPTIC has operated at the vanguard of technical death metal, defined by instrumental precision, structural intelligence and an uncompromising creative ethic. From their Tasmanian origins to commanding stages worldwide, the band have built a reputation on rhythmic complexity, exacting musicianship, and a refusal to plateau.

At the core of this next phase is guitarist and principal songwriter Joe Haley. Over time, Haley’s compositional voice has evolved from pure technical density into something more architecturally deliberate. On The Pulse Of Annihilation, riff construction feels sharper, transitions more fluid, and thematic motifs more intentional. Haley’s writing demonstrates a seasoned understanding of pacing—knowing when to constrict, when to expand, and how to weaponize silence and space within otherwise relentless arrangements. Experience has not diminished intensity; it has refined its delivery.

The record features the dual-vocal assault of Jason Peppiatt and Jason Keyser (Origin), a partnership that debuted on PSYCROPTIC’s previous full-length, Divine Council. Peppiatt’s commanding growl intertwines with Keyser’s razor-edged articulation, creating a dynamic vocal interplay that adds dimension and contrast to the band’s dense instrumentation. This twofold approach heightens the record’s impact, featuring layered, confrontational elements that remain tightly synced with the band’s intricate foundation.

David Haley – drums
Joe Haley – guitars
Todd Stern – bass
Jason Peppiatt – vocals
Jason Keyser – vocals

Debut Album Theasterion Out July 2026

Montréal’s rising technical death‑metal force Volubilis announces the release of their second single, “Le Flamboiement Stellaire,” the follow‑up to their first single “Ashes & Embers” and the latest preview of their upcoming debut conceptual full‑length Theasterion, arriving July 10th, 2026.

Founded in 2020 by Afro‑Canadian multi‑instrumentalist and world‑builder Miguel Marcheterre‑PinaVolubilis has evolved from a pandemic‑era bedroom project into one of Canada’s most promising new progressive and technical metal acts. Joined by André Dubien (vocals), Jacob Collins(drums), Alexis Rioux (guitar), and Shawn Hillman (fretless bass), the band has quickly gained recognition for its intricate musicianship, ambitious storytelling, and immersive sci‑fi universe.

“Le Flamboiement Stellaire” serves as the album’s opening chapter, both musically and narratively. Written with the intention of becoming a tech‑death anthem, the track explodes with prestissimo riffing, melodious solos, and relentless blast beats. It is also the only song on the album written in French, grounding the band’s conceptual universe in Québec’s metal identity.

“Le Flamboiement Stellaire was written to purposefully become a metal hit. With prestissimo, intricate riffs, melodious solos and blasting drums, the song is an homage to tech‑death’s best acts. We insisted on writing lyrics in French to make it a veritable testimony of Québec’s vernacular metal,” says Miguel Marcheterre‑Pina

Lyrically, the single introduces the prophecy at the heart of Theasterion, the foretelling of a catastrophic supernova, the political fracture it creates within a human colony, and the mercenaries who flee to the hostile planet Theasterion in search of survival.

Listen to “Le Flamboiement Stellaire” at the following links:

Lyric Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_DXs3fYcgw

1. Le Flamboiement Stellaire (5:16)
2. Theasterion (6:30)
3. Homo Cumulus (5:48)
4. Ashes & Embers (4:50)
5. The Prism (4:01)
6. Unukhalai Supernova (6:24)
Total Album Length: 33min

A sweeping sci‑fi epic told through six tracks, Theasterion blends technical death metal, progressive structures, neoclassical flourishes, and cinematic world‑building. The album explores humanity’s collapse, interplanetary survival, and the enigmatic Homo Cumulus, an anthropoid species native to Theasterion.

Musically, the record pushes Volubilis’ songwriting into more complex, immersive territory, with influences ranging from Beyond Creation, Vale of Pnath, and Obscura to Ne Obliviscaris and neoclassical composition.

BIO:

Emerging from the isolated, unforgiving wilderness of Tasmania, THE ABSOLUTION SEQUENCE has carved out a unique identity within the Australian extreme metal scene. Their sound is a direct reflection of their homeland’s “dark isle” reputation, a place defined by a sinister history and a cold, remote landscape that stands in stark contrast to the Australian mainland.

The band has developed a signature style of Technical Death Metal that balances high-velocity musical prowess with a deeply immersive, atmospheric undertone.  The band has earned a wide array of mainland and international support slots from Nile, Archspire, Thy Art is Murder to Psycroptic, Northlane, Make them Suffer and others.

They also competed in the “GOOD THINGS 2022” Band Competition in Victoria. Their proven consistent success in the Tasmanian Metal scene has garnered them a reputation as a reliable and sought after headlining act.

BAND BIO:

Since 2005, GIGAN has been an unsung vanguard of abstract and creatively dissonant extreme metal. Pushing boundaries and never compromising the artistic vision throughout the debut EP and subsequent four full-length albums has led GIGAN to be considered an unwavering force of both innovation and extremity.

It has been almost seven years since GIGAN has released new music and the time spent away has only honed and sharpened the still-deadly blades of creativity for which GIGAN has always been known; while also infusing fresh elements not yet heard within the GIGAN Universe. The results of GIGAN’s current hard work is the new beast of an album entitled Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus

GRAVEBORN – Announce New Studio Album, Metempsychosis | First Single Now Streaming

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on February 3, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Boston-based progressive death metal band GRAVEBORN are set to return this spring with the release of their fifth full-length album Metempsychosis.

In the five years since the release of 2021’s Transmigrator, GRAVEBORN has been meticulously crafting their newest magnum opus – an 11-track concept album about continuity in the face of collapse.

Throughout the course of Metempsychosis, GRAVEBORN challenges themselves and the listener to stare into an internal and external abyss. Moving from inner psychological fracture to societal and species-wide decline, the album rejects narratives of tragedy or triumph, treating destruction as a necessary mechanism of transmission. Metempsychosis asks one question and refuses to soften the answer- what remains when everything else is gone?

Hear part of this journey with the album’s new single and final track, “Orthologs.” Watch the lyric video now at youtu.be/rdi995yM6pw.

Reggie Lewis – Bass
Jesse Blanchette – Guitars
Chris Ramusiewicz – Guitars
John LeBlanc – Vocals
Marc Brennan – Drums

Vocalist John Leblanc describes the track as the album’s closing statement – a reflection on consciousness as continuity, and the nature of self-evolution.

“‘Orthologs’ is about what survives after annihilation, not as hope, but as function. It’s evolution under pressure. Forced transformation. The essential self persists, but the form changes radically. I don’t return to who I was. I don’t heal into the old shape. I become something else because survival requires it. Like orthologous genes, the structure diverges, but the core purpose remains intact. This isn’t triumphant. It’s real. It’s not a victory lap. It’s the moment after the maw, when something still stands. Not because it’s unbroken, but because it adapted.”

This song means: continuity is not comfort. Continuity is persistence. I am changed. I am not whole. But something essential still functions, still moves forward, still exists.

Not healed.
Not restored.
Still here.

And that is enough.”

Stream the album’s first two singles, “Ember of Existence” and “Temporal Sands” on Spotify and Apple Music.

Metempsychosis is due out April 3. Pre-order the album at: gravebornma.bandcamp.com.

Track-list:

1) Embers of Existence

2) The Archaea Paradox

3) Temporal Sands

4) Idols of Bone

5) Paralogs

6) Metempsychosis

7) River of the Eternal Mind

8) Epistatic Drift

9) Legacy of Light

10) The Maw of Recursion

11) Orthologs

BIO:

Formed in 2013 in Boston, MA, Graveborn serves up an ethereally heavy strain of progressive death metal. Over the last decade, they have released 4 albums Samsara (2014), Seeds Of Life (2016), The Athenaeum  (2018) and Transmigrator (2021). Graveborn performed throughout the Northeast US with the likes of Fallujah, Rivers of Nihil, Cognitive, Ghost Bath, Ov Sulfur, and others. Graveborn weaves the themes of self-evolution and introspection through their lyrics, and embodies this ethos in their collaborations.

NEURECTOMY – Featuring ORIGIN’s John Longstreth – To Release Debut Album, Overwrought

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , , , on September 25, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

NEURECTOMY, a trio of NYC-based tech-death wizards, are set to unleash their debut album, Overwrought. Featuring the drumming prowess of ORIGIN‘s John Longstreth, Overwroughtdelivers 30 genre-bending minutes of forward-thinking technical death metal.

The band has posted visualizers for two songs off the album, “Crimson Tsunami” and “Dolphin.” Watch the videos at:

“Crimson Tsunami” – youtube.com/watch?v=KvLtcR6tAbc

“Dolphin” – youtube.com/watch?v=PbcpiOoNC1Q

Both songs are streaming on Spotify.

NEURECTOMY will release Overwrought on November 17.

Tracklist:
1) Abducted for Research
2) Culinary Cadaveric Art
3) Anencephalic Birth
4) Dolphin
5) Zombified
6) Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progres
7) Overwrought
8) Crimson Tsunami

The term NEURECTOMY is a reference to the surgical removal of a nerve which ties into the band’s interests in medical themes and the human condition. NEURECTOMY focuses on overall musicianship in their songs and aims to write engaging material that has musical depth and complexity. Listeners will often find something new and interesting even on repeated listens of the material.

Line-up:

John Longstreth – Drums
Joe – Guitar/Vocals
Kris – Guitar/Vocals

Recording and production of the album feature many prominent metal musicians and sound engineers in the industry. Longstreth’s drum tracks were recorded at Silver Chord Studios (owned by Joe Duplantier of Gojira) and were tracked with Johann Meyer (front-of-house engineer for Gojira). The album is mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson from Cryptopsy with assistant engineering from Dominic Grimard.

The band recommends listening to the album front to back as there is a natural order of progression in intensity where each track generally tops the preceding one. Listeners will notice obvious influences from tech-death bands such as Origin, Beneath the Massacre, Dying Fetus, etc. Additionally, the band includes jazz elements and touch style/tapping guitar techniques similar to Psyopus. Lyrical themes on the album are generally tongue-in-cheek and primarily meant to compliment the underlying music with additional aggression, not any deep-rooted message or sentiment.

The album clocks in at around 30 minutes which hits a sweet spot giving the listener the opportunity to enjoy the album front to back in one sitting without being overwhelmed, but maybe overwrought…

INANIMATE EXISTENCE – Technical Death Metal Faction To Unleash Second LP Via Unique Leader; Album Teaser Posted

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 24, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Inanimate Existence - A Never Ending Cycle Of Atonement - promo cover pic

California Technical Death Metal faction, INANIMATE EXISTENCE, who feature within their ranks members of Brain Drill and Son Of Aurelius, will unleash their sophomore effort, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement, this Summer via Extreme Metal merchants, Unique Leader Records.

Tracked by Max Zigman (Son Of Aurelius, Smaragos) at Parade Outrageous in Santa Cruz and produced by Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement boasts eight conceptual tracks of progressive punishment.

The follow-up to 2012’s Liberation Through Hearing, which MetalSucks championed for its “erie, psychedelic themes richly animated by the grandiose contrast between shamanic atmosphere and uncompromising brutality,” finds INANIMATE EXISTENCE’s signature, over-the-top compositions elevated to an entirely new level of profundity. Each movement marvels at its own innovative density as intricate guitar structures coil seamlessly around complex rhythms and infernal vocal tirades, all the while maintaining an absorbing magnetism that draws exploratory listeners in with each new measure.

The record includes several guest musicians who offer female vocal accents, clarinet, bass flute, harp, bongos and other nuances to the proceedings, only adding to the record’s already confounding depth.

A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement – Track Listing:

1. Om Mani Padme Um
2. Omen
3. Bioluminescent Photophores
4. The Rune of Destruction
5. The Catacomb Of Mirrors
6. Staring Through Fire
7. Out of Body Experience
8. Dueling Shadows

INANIMATE EXISTENCE’s A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement will be released on June 24th, 2014 via Unique Leader Records. Special preorder bundles will be available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, wrap your head around the album teaser below:

Alterbeast - promo band pic - #1 - 2013

Sacramento Technical Death Metal militia, ALTERBEAST, is pleased to unleash their full-length debut via Unique Leader this Spring! Titled Immortal, the eight track monster offering was meticulously assembled in several locals throughout 2013.

With guitars and bass recorded at Augmented Audio in Los Angeles with former The Black Dahlia Murder bassist Ryan “Bart” Williams, vocals arranged at Mayhemeness Studios in Sacramento by Bob Swanson (Rings Of Saturn, Plague Window et al) and drums tracked at Castle Ultimate Studios with Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al), who also mixed and mastered the release, Immortal promises to deliver some of the most dynamic, instrumentally adept and plainly crushing material of the year.

Elaborates vocalist Cam Rogers of the outcome:Immortal is what was spawned from hard work, dedication, and downright brutal musicianship. It has intricate solos, absolutely crushing interludes and brutal circle-pit anthems. ALTERBEAST sets the scene with grievous piano preceding the onset of ‘Flesh Bound Text’ which comes in with blistering drums and guitars effortlessly making their way around the fret board. Every piece truly has its own personality on this record, whether it’s the apocalyptic soundscapes of ‘Ancient’s Retribution,’ the devastating aggression of ‘Vile Remnants’ or the unmerciful grooves in ‘Throne of Maggots.’ This album has something for every listener and comes together seamlessly to form as a breathtaking whole. Immortal is exactly what we intended it to be: a gripping and intense death metal album.”

Liquefy your brain with the sounds of opening track “Flesh Bound Text” below!

Immortal Track Listing:

1. Flesh Bound Text

2. Of Decimus Divine

3. Vile Remnants

4. Ancient’s Retribution

5. Mutilated Marvel

6. Into Oblivion

7. Serpentspire

8. Throne of Maggots

ALTERBEAST - Large Band Logo - B&W - 2013

Formed in 2011 under the working title Gary Busey Amber Alert (GBAA), ALTERBEAST combines the teachings of The Black Dahlia Murder, Necrophagist and Spawn Of Possession with the classic Death Metal mastery of band’s like Dissection and Morbid Angel into an irate expulsion of sonic deviance. After a year of dedicated song-crafting, ALTERBEAST unleashed their first demo in 2012 and officially waged war on the populace with numerous shows opening for Deicide, Dying Fetus, Testament, Revocation, Exhumed, Severed Savior and many others. Their crushing live assaults combined with a DIY ethos quickly earned them a revered place within the local Death Metal community.

Immortal will rear its head upon the masses on March 18, 2014 via Unique Leader. Further intel, including preorder links, to be announced in the coming days.

ALTERBEAST Personnel:

Cam Rogers – Vocals
Rusty Cornell – Guitar
Andrew Lamb – Guitar
Michael Zamora – Bass
Gabe Seeber (The Kennedy Veil, Decrepit Birth, Abysmal Dawn et al) – Drums

MALIGNANCY – New York Death Metal Legends To Release New Full-Length Via Willowtip This Fall

Posted in Death Metal, death metal albums, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, technical death metal with tags , , , , , , on August 20, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Yonkers, New York-based Technical Death/Grind legends MALIGNANCY are pleased to unleash their latest slab of sonic bestiality in the form of Eugenics. Set to be unearthed in North America on October 9, 2012 through Willowtip RecordsEugenics was recorded throughout 2010 – 2011 by Eliot Gellar at the Gellar Cellar Studio in Mahopac, New York, mixed and mastered by Luca Minieri at Dissonant Studio in Aosta, Italy and features the cover art of Justin Osbourn of Slasher Designs.

Loosely based around the concept of eugenics — defined as “the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, especially by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)” — the band’s third full-length hurls forth 10 mercilessly brutal hymns of technically proficient audio carnage.

Elaborates the band in a collective statement:Eugenics is a culmination of MALIGNANCYpast and present with a hint of what’s to come in the future. Recording the new tunes with a click track was a totally new experience.”

Check out  the cover art as well as first track, “Type Zero Civilization,” at THIS LOCATION.

In the near future humans will face the very real threat of extinction. Either natural or man-made, it will come to pass.  Eugenics is an account  of what may happen.

Forced to dwell hundreds of miles underground, in an abandoned U.S. archive, they fight to live.  This installation still contains all the necessary previsions needed for survival.  A self-sufficient complex, far removed from the vigor of life topside.  It is equipped with generators, a constant replenishing air supply, even waste management.  A perfect habitat for the evolution of the last species on Earth, Man.

01. Type Zero Civilization

SOPHICIDE – German Tech Death Metallers Announce Willowtip Debut “Perdition Of The Sublime”

Posted in Death Metal, extreme music, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 2, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

German Technical Death Metal sorcerers, SOPHICIDE, are pleased to announce the release of their debut, Perdition Of The Sublime. Set for North American release on August 14, 2012 via Willowtip Records, the 11-track long player was recorded, mixed and mastered by founder Adam Laszlo at his home studio and features the striking cover design by artist Steve Voigt.

Formed as a one-man-project in 2009 by Laszlo, then 19, SOPHICIDE fuses elaborate melodies with battering technical brutality into a sound that’s as malicious as it is memorable. Meaning “murder of wisdom,” SOPHICIDE describes the state of modern society and serves as the central theme of Perdition Of The Sublime. Notes Laszlo: “It’s another word for anti-intellectualism. People are stupid, ignorant and seem to be proud of it. This is a disturbing trend.”

“I’m really keen to release this album,” he continues of the release. “I’ve put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and I hope people can connect to it as I do. Basically the overall theme coincides with the meaning of ‘sophicide.’ Intellect and enlightenment seem to be displaced by religion and casting shows. There’s this overall apathy, people don’t seem to give a shit about anything as long as they get their cheap meat and TV shows. This is what POTS is basically about, although the focus is on religion, after all it’s the elephant in the room.”

Check out the artwork and first track “The Art Of Atrocity” at THIS LOCATION.

Perdition Of The Sublime Track Listing:

01. The Art Of Atrocity

02. Within Darkness

03. Perdition Of The Sublime

04. Of Lust And Vengeance

05. Execration

06. Blood For Honour
