Ripple Music Releases Compilation Album To Benefit Medical Treatment For NEBULA Bassist Tom Davies

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 6, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

Ripple Muisc have released Nebula Ripples, a compilation album to benefit NEBULA bassist Tom Davies.

Recently, Tom was diagnosed with Leukemia and is now fighting the disease with all his strength. Although NEBULA had not previously recorded with Ripple Music, everyone in the stoner rock scene knows of their powerful music. When Todd Severin, CEO of Ripple Music, heard of Tom’s fight ahead, he reached out, wanting to do anything Ripple could do to support him, and the result is this compilation.

Todd asked Tom which Ripple bands he loved playing with, and his response forms the basis of this compilation. To top it off, Tom contributed one of his own unreleased tracks to kick the compilation into gear, which features lead guitar work from Joe Hoare of ORANGE GOBLIN. Also included is a special sneak preview track from the upcoming album by KIND.

All proceeds from this album will be donated directly to Tom to help him fight his battle against cancer.

In Tom’s words, “Back in January I ended up in the ER with kidney stones which was followed by viral pneumonia and Bell’s Palsy and eventually led to me being diagnosed with a rare form of high risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

As it’s a very complex form, I’ve had one round of intense chemotherapy so far and am facing many more treatments and hospital visits for the fight of my life. On a positive note, my spirit is strong and has been strengthened by the overwhelming and incredible outpouring of support from the community.”

SPACE COKE – To Release New Album ‘Lunacy’

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , on November 3, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

On January 14 2022 psychedelic rockers SPACECOKE will release their new album Lunacy.

The band comments: “We have an origin theme that a trip to space is a breakaway from a society gone mad. A planet that has built up civilizations based on power and oppression. Also mix that with the SPACE COKE scene from Cheech and Chong’s movie. Reno grew up in a diverse multicultural household and likes his music and musical companions to reflect that. SPACE COKE is aural magic to ground us in how small our planet and its affectations are in an immeasurable existence.”

Lunacy is a Twilight Zone-like journey and will be both darker and more occult themed than previous albums. Each musician’s influences add to the complexity of the album and lend to something far beyond the traditional hallmarks of fuzz and bass. Reno Gooch pulls from his childhood of listening to Indian classical, as well as contemporary artists such as SUN RA, SONIC YOUTH and ANTHONY BRAXTON, plus some of rocks most well known godfathers: BLACK SABBATH, MOTHERS OF INVENTION and JIMI HENDRIX.

If you’re ready to embark on a journey from which you may not return, SPACE COKE will be your guide. As they say: If the amp don’t smoke, it ain’t SPACE COKE.

More information will be available soon.

About Pale Mare
Pale Mare is a Toronto-based heavy metal band, born out of the desire to play music that is loud, aggressive, and full of thick groovy riffs.  The band released their self-titled EP in November of 2017 through Medusa Crush Records and was met with high praise from the likes of Metal Hammer, Exclaim!, and many more.

Having provided local support for Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, Windhand, Satans Satyres, Weedeater, Serial Hawk, Black Wizard, King Buffalo, Set and Setting and Perturbator, Pale Mare have established themselves in their home town of Toronto as a massive force to be reckoned with, and have attracted a loyal fan base through relentlessly crushing live performances. Their sound has been likened to early Baroness, High On Fire, Mastodon, and Black Tusk; full of fire, attitude, brimstone, tone, and soul.

Praise for Pale Mare
“Sounding like Motorhead developing a penchant for doom, this self-titled EP is raw, heavy and filthy in the best possible way.” — Metal Hammer

GREEN LUNG – Debut Single “Green Man Rising” – A Metal Odyssey Review

Green Lung - promo band pic - 2017 - #33MO838ILMNOSD

GREEN LUNG – From the UK emerges a Doom Metal band of seasoned musicians named GREEN LUNG. These dudes have just released their debut single, Green Man Rising, on June 1st. This groovy, doomy, psychedelic (intertwined) with stoner goodness song is available on the bands’ bandcamp site, (see below). Clean vocals and a beefy executed song; even the B side song is worth the price for the doom voyage.

I dig the sound that GREEN LUNG have captured; this band has created respectable chunky riffage and relevant doom atmosphere that also grasps and holds onto some Sabbath-like vibes. Keep on plowing down the doom soaked freeway GREEN LUNG, considering I am eager to hear a whole lot more doom from you. Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

Side A: Green Man Rising

Side B: Freak On A Peak

GREEN LUNG Bio:

Formed in March 2017, GREEN LUNG play heavy psychedelia that is more attuned to wild woodlands than desert dunes. Made up of current and former members of stoner heavies Oak, occult doom trio Tomb King and instrumental sludge minimalists Deadbox Radio, the London-based four-piece have combined strengths to record an opening salvo that balances gargantuan heaviness with intricate melody.

GREEN LUNG:

Vocals – Tom Killingbeck
Guitar – Scott Masson
Bass – Andrew Cave
Drums – Matt Wiseman

SAVIOURS – To Release Palace Of Vision Full-Length This October Via Listenable Records; New Track Playing At Cvlt Nation

Saviours - Palace Of Vision - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #3337770MM

This Fall, California metallers, SAVIOURS, will drop the molten fruits of their new full-length this Fall via a new partnership with France’s Listenable Records. Titled Palace Of Vision, their first full-length in four years was captured at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon with the inimitable Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Eyehategod, Taurus, Ommadon etc.) and boasts nine tracks of SAVIOURS‘ signature brand of towering riffs, colossal rhythms, infectious guitar harmonies and an obsession with the end of times, the occult, psychedelics and the arcane.

“It’s a natural and logical continuation of where we left off with [2011’s] Death’s Procession,” said drummer Scott Batiste of the offering. “There are some doomy crushers and faster ragers.” As an added bonus, the record comes sheathed in the fittingly dark, intricately transfixing cover renderings of Derrick Snodgrass (Obliterations, Lecherous Gaze).

In anticipation of its arrival, today Cvlt Nation offers up the first helping of Palace Of Vision in the form of opening bruiser, Burning Shrine. Comments Batiste, “‘Burning Shrine’ is about watching the world burn as it is ruined by religious zealots. Crank it up, live evil or die!”

Adds Cvlt Nation: “This motherfucker is a straight raging jam! Fasten your seat belt, press play and let the mammoth riffs the band kicks out do the rest. Caution: SAVIOURS have been known to cause non-stop headbanging – you have been warned!”

Turn up and tune out at THIS LOCATION.

Palace Of Vision – Track Listing:

  2. Cursed Night
  3. Devil’s Crown
  4. Flesh Of Fire
  5. Hell’s Floor
  6. Palace Of Vision
  7. The Beast Remains
  8. The Mountain
  9. The Seeker

In related news, SAVIOURS will bring their riffs to the stage with a pair of east coast/west coast fest performances with additional live incursions to be announced in the coming weeks.

SAVIOURS:

9/05/2015 Cosmic Sonic Rendezvous Festival @ The Wick – Brooklyn, NY

11/1/3015 Day Of The Shred Festival @ The Observatory – Santa Ana, CA

Still building upon the foundation that Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy and Motörhead laid, SAVIOURS enters their second decade in a new partnership with French label Listenable Records. Rooted in hardcore punk but preferring to cruise in outer space, the lysergic of SAVIOURS hessians have always brought a ton of swing and swagger to their forward-charging Heavy Metal. The band melds sounds from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, progressive rock, and proto-doom, and delivers it all with a snarling West Coast hardcore edge. The result is an absolute beast of a sound that is all SAVIOURS‘ own.

Since the 2005 release of SAVIOURS‘ debut EP, Warship, the band has worked relentlessly, touring North America, Europe, and Japan with the likes of Mastodon, Corrosion Of Conformity, The Sword, High On Fire, Saint Vitus and Clutch. In a few short years, SAVIOURS have risen to become stalwarts of the world’s Metal scene, ambassadors of an aggressive-yet-stoned West Coast vibe, inspired by the ’70s but totally real and relevant in 2015.

SAVIOURS:

Palace Of Vision will be released via Listenable Records on October 30th, 2015. Preorders to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

BEHOLD! THE MONOLITH – To Release ‘Architects Of The Void’ On September 29th

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 17, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Behold The Monolith - Architects Of The Void - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #3399GMSILAOTT

Los Angeles Stoner/Doom Metal band BEHOLD! THE MONOLITH will release new album Architects of the Void September 29 on CD, digital, and vinyl formats.  The album can be pre-ordered at this location.

Legendary producer Billy Anderson has expertly harnessed the band’s smoke-belching locomotive style, while the songwriting is the most captivating of the quartet’s career. Guitarist Matt Price had this to say about the results:

“It’s a relatively dark album, which is probably fitting. A few of the riffs and ideas had pretty much coagulated right before Kevin’s accident, and most of the others were colored by it, so yeah it feels kinda heavy and dark to me. I hope I don’t sound like a high falootin’ artisté, but it felt personal for me and Chase, so it wound up being more than just stringing riffs together, ya know? That being said Cas and Jordan came in and kicked ass and brought their own stamp to the sound. So it’s a bit different, but I think it captures the essence what Behold! The Monolith is all about!”

Behold The Monolith - publicity pic - 2015 - #0033MOMSMSTOYY

Architects of the Void follows critically acclaimed  2012 release Defender, Redeemist and marks the debut of vocalist Jordan Nalley who took the reigns following the tragic 2013 death of Kevin McDade in a car accident. The album will also be the first for new bassist Jason “Cas” Casanova (SASQUATCH). The album artwork was created by Dusty Peterson (Bloodbath, Six Feet Under, Oceano).

The band has posted a video of its March 18th performance at Los Globos in L.A. Check it out at this location.

Euro-Melting Pot Strauss Announce Second EP “Luia”

Posted in Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 3, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Strauss - Luia - EP cover promo pic - 2015 - 3040215MOS77

London brings people together from all walks of life. So when a French guitarist met two Italians, a Spanish guitarist and a British bassist, it seemed destiny to make noise together as Strauss (a Germanic name of course). They’re now set to release their second EP Luia around late May. Drawing from common wells of Kylesa, Kyuss and Red Fang, the fuzz-charged grooves they conjure up on Luia are infectious and dirt-laden, so you may well catch something. Meanwhile vocalist Stef possesses both crooning tones and a manic bark to contrast, and even a rap-style vocal in the vein of Zack la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) on final track ‘2015’.

Strauss started out with modest intentions: “met one day and decided to make some noise…that’s it really.” The group eventually centered around London as their stomping ground, and quickly got their heads together to create their début self-titled EP, which received high praise from reviewers around the ‘net. Building on this success, the band hit the road far and wide, even reaching Latvia’s Fontaine Festival and Sweden’s SandvikFest to bring their manic parties. Now, it’s time for round two of hitting the studio, and Luia has taken shape spectacularly. The UK fuzz scene has never been in healthier shape, and rarely with a more wicked sense of humor.

Strauss are:

Stef – vocals
Charles – guitars
Bill – bass
Luca Immovili – drums

FFO: Red Fang, Kylesa, Kruger

Digital release is set for late May.

“This is a damn fine first release from Strauss and for fans of catchy stoner grooves with a dirty sludgier edge, this is essential listening.” – Heavy Planet

“A sound rooted somewhere between Kylesa and Red Fang with a nice progressive touch. All in all this EP is packed with some great tunes and worth checking out.” – Stonerobixxx

“Even though it’s got these familiar elements, this stew of tunes is quite unlike any sludge/metal/stoner acts I’ve heard before.” – Ride With The Devil

THE SHRINE “Waiting For The War” 12″ – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

The Shrine - Waiting For The War - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #0327TSMO

4 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4

A 3 song 12″ that I have discovered to be damn good is Waiting For The War from The Shrine. This ultra cool slab of vinyl is available over at Tankcrimes:

http://tankcrimes.merchtable.com/distributed-music/vinyl/the-shrine-waiting-for-the-war-12-maxi-single#.VRViV0vLDwI

The title track for this EP is in general terms Punk, in the vein of an aggressive Ramones and not Sex Pistols. Maybe some will call this song Crossover Thrash or Skate Punk. Call it what you will, the title track ROCKS and that’s the main concern. The second track is Rare Breed and it’s Stoner Metal, with spirals of golden sonic psychedelia. Do not think The Sword, instead think early Uriah Heep meets Tony Iommi; or something like that. If you visit The Shrine’s Facebook page, they list their genre as: Psychedelic Violence Rock and Roll. ‘Nuff said.

The third track, Waiting For The War, is Metal. The fret work tells me so. This song is an instrumental and it jams, baaabbbyyy! Playing out at 4:22, I wish Waiting For The War had another 5 minutes added on to it. Really. Good stuff. I recommend The Shrine to any fan of kick to the arse underground Metal. Metal be thy name.

Track List: Waiting For The War, Rare Breed, Waiting For The War (Instrumental)

Black .44 - promo band pic - #2015B44IRMO

Black .44 from Helsinki, Finland hits the studio at the end of February to record their debut album. The band, founded in 2011, plays melodic Stoner Metal and released their first demo-ep in 2012, receiving some great feedback in the Finnish Metal media. Black .44 songs tell dark stories about your regular hometown murderers and those poor souls that just happen to be born crooked or just always seem to make the wrong choices in life. The band is influenced by such artists as Pantera, Black Sabbath, Down and Alice in Chains. Heavy riffs and catchy melodies spiced up with a twist of that southern groove are the trademarks of Black .44.

The album will be released in autumn 2015, by Finnish record label Inverse Records. The name and release date of the debut will be announced later.

Orange Goblin - Down - North America Tour - promo flyer - 2014

With ORANGE GOBLIN‘s Back From The Abyss full-length now three weeks away from release, the band has confirmed the first North American tour in support of the record. Set to begin December 1st and run through December 21st, ORANGE GOBLIN will return to the stage touring alongside Down, Bl’ast, and labelmates, King Parrot!

Vocalist Ben Ward comments, “I remember being a spotty 19-year-old rushing out to the record store to buy the first Down album NOLA the very day it came out in 1994. Now, twenty years on, I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming that ORANGE GOBLIN are heading back to North America as main support to the mighty Down. It really is fairytale stuff for us. Down are one of the bands that are the reason ORANGE GOBLIN exists. To be given this opportunity to go out to promote our brand new album, Back From The Abyss, to the Down fans is just a dream come true the rest of the band and I can’t wait to get started. The fact that we also get to see Bl’ast and King Parrot every night just makes it all so hard to believe! Hail the Leaf! Hail the RIFF! Hail DOWN!”

Recorded earlier this year, Back From The Abyss reunites ORANGE GOBLIN with producer Jamie Dodd; who served as producer on the band’s best-selling album in North America to date – 2012’s A Eulogy For The Damned. Two songs already have fans globally excited; Loudwire and Metal Hammer premiered the Motörhead-tinged “The Devil’s Whip” to overwhelming success on August 15th. Last week Noisey premiered the first video from the album for the song “Sabbath Hex.” The band is currently working on a second video for the song “Mythical Knives” which is expected to be completed by month’s end.

Touring for the album will start in Europe on October 9th. Travelling the continent with friends Saint Vitus, ORANGE GOBLIN will pull song selections from their extensive catalog now spanning eight studio albums. Tickets for their North American dates are set to go on sale for shows Friday, September 19th.

ORANGE GOBLIN – Premieres New Video Via Noisey; Back From The Abyss To Drop Next Month

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on September 14, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

With the release of Back From The Abyss, the forthcoming new full-length from Stoner Metal icons ORANGE GOBLIN, now less than one month away, Noisey thrusts forth opening rager, “Sabbath Hex.”

Bedecked in high-speed psychedelic visuals and an occultish-vibe, the Michael Dickinson-produced clip is currently slaying eye holes via Noisey at THIS LOCATION

And if you missed it, check out the Motörheadian dirt rock swagger of “The Devil’s Whip” still streaming at Loudwire HERE.

Recorded earlier this year in London, ORANGE GOBLIN‘s Back From The Abyss was produced by Jamie Dodd, mastered at Turan Audio and follows the band’s most successful release, 2012’s A Eulogy For The Damned, and the recent reissue of their 2007 album Healing Through Fire. Rocking hard as fans have come expect, Back From The Abyss shows not only the band’s signature blues ‘n’ doom persuasion but the high-caliber of their musicianship.

In an advance 9/10 review of the record, This Is Not A Scene crowns Back From The Abyss, “another triumph for ORANGE GOBLIN,” furthering that it maintains the band’s, “consistent level of songwriting and performance all the way through its twelve tracks that make this their most accomplished album to date. Proof that hard work does indeed pay off.”

Together since 1995, ORANGE GOBLIN has released seven full-length studio albums. A Eulogy For The Damned was the band’s first for Candlelight Records and closed a five-year recording hiatus. The album was supported with the most live dates by the band in their history; touring that saw the band on North American soil first alongside Clutch then on a full-scale headlining tour that found them on thirty-eight stages across the US and Canada. Two videos were filmed and released for the album, including “Red Tide Rising” and the special Scion A/V video for “Acid Trials.”

Back From The Abyss will be released October 7th, 2014 via Candlelight Records. Preorder your copy at THIS LOCATION.

Scion Audio Visual Present RED FANG “The Meadows” Video

Red Fang - The Meadows - music video promo pic - 2014

Red Fang have a new music video for The Meadows from their recently released EP, Scion A/V Presents Red Fang (http://www.scionav.com/2014/05/06/red-fang-meadows-shadows-download/). The glutinous clip finds the hairy and hilarious metal band putting on their fancy clothes and putting away a herculean amount of food in a super slow motion.

Red Fang released Whales and Leeches in October 2014, with the eleven-song album quickly becoming the band’s best-selling and most critically acclaimed release to date.  Alternative Press described the album as “bigger, bolder, heavier, catchier and even more savagely fun,” Stereogum said the release “takes flight and soars,” while Magnet Magazine said Whales and Leeches “is a monumental success – a clear line from Red Fang’s earliest recordings to it latest.”

BEHOLD! THE MONOLITH Announce New Vocalist

Los Angeles Stoner Metal band BEHOLD! THE MONOLITH have announced the addition of vocalist Jordan Nalley to their ranks. Nalley joined the band following the tragic loss of bassist/vocalist Kevin McDade.

Guitarist Matt Price comments: “I met Jordan through some friends at a Mastodon show. Came to find out we had a few mutual friends and that he was a vocalist and actually did a bit of vocal coaching for the heavier styles at Musicians Institute.

I took a lesson from him and brought our CD, Defender, Redeemist. I got a call from him about a week later. He loved the album and wanted to audition. At the time our new bassist, Cas, was in Europe with Sasquatch and our drummer Chase was filling in for about a months worth of Castle’s North American tour. So we had to wait a few weeks to give it a try. But when we did it was obvious the chemistry was there. He sounds great on the old stuff, and his range is great so he’s taking the new stuff into even darker gnarlier territory! We played our first show with him and it went great! We’re pretty fucking stoked and are in full writing mode. We’re hoping to be recording in very early 2015 (we’ve been talking to Billy Anderson and he’s 100% on board).”

 _______________________________

MOUNT SALEM is a four-piece psychedelic rock/doom metal band. They started writing music together in the summer of 2012 and released their first debut EP, Endless, in the Spring of 2013. Taking influence from the likes of Black Sabbath and Pentagram, MOUNT SALEM play loud, heavy rock ‘n’ roll using all vintage gear. Throwing their own twist of dark, mysterious doom into their summonings, MOUNT SALEM systematically pull listeners into their sinister realm of sound; their lyrical imagery serving as a ride all its own. Metal Blade Records signed the band in the Summer of 2013 and recently released an extended version of Endless containing two additional, brand-new tracks.

Critical Praise:

“Whether you’re a fan of psychedelic rock, stoner rock or doom metal, there’s a little something for everybody on Mount Salem’s ‘Endless.'” – Loudwire

“Debut album, Endless, is an absolute monolith of a record that combines the sludgy, droning guitars of Iommi’s finest vintage with Emily’s shimmering vocals and epic Jon Lord-style organ rushes. It’s retro, yes, but it also sounds too exciting to be dismissed as simply revisionism.” – Metal Hammer
