SATAN released their sixth full length album, Earth Infernal, via Metal Blade last April. Earth Infernal is a product of the times that birthed it and could only be the work of SATAN. Having churned out cutting edge heavy metal throughout the ‘80s – and reunited in 2011 – the record maintains the high standard of musicianship the band set long ago and it is perhaps their timeliest release. “For two years, the world has been preoccupied with politics and pandemics and while we were all looking the other way our planet has continued to get hotter,” said guitarist Russ Tippins upon the record’s release. “Our Earth is now infernally hot. Almost irreversibly so. We are on a one-way trip to Hell and dragging our children along with us. Yes, SATAN has something to say about global warming.” The album entered the German Charts at position #12, the highest chart entry ever for the band.

Steve Harris says,
“Following the release of our latest album, Senjutsu, we updated the current Legacy of the Beast Tour a little by opening the show with the first 3 songs from it, with the Japanese Palace stage set. As it doesn’t make a lot of sense to repeat this for a Senjutsu album tour, we thought about other options and we’ve decided to revisit Somewhere In Time as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years. They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!). We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu, it’s been a long wait! 2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe”.

Manager, Rod Smallwood adds,
“This combination of the two albums we feel is very exciting. We know fans want to hear those epic cuts on Senjutsu for the first time live and we think that by combining it with an iconic album like Somewhere In Time it will make for another really special tour for fans old and new! Of course, for a new album tour in Europe and the UK we will go back largely to the relative intimacy of arenas and we know fans will be very happy about that too!”

JUDAS PRIEST “Point Of Entry” – Takes Me Back To Those Early Metal Years

Posted in Metal with tags , , , , , on April 17, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

Judas Priest - Point Of Entry - promo cover pic

JUDAS PRIEST – I can remember like it was yesterday, my discovery of the iconic Judas Priest. My first Judas Priest vinyl purchase was 1982’s Screaming For Vengeance and my second Judas Priest vinyl grab was 1980’s British Steel. I was simply mesmerized by the powerful sound that was flooding into my teenage senses from these NWOBHM titans.

Back in 1982, I recall never hearing such strong and exciting music like this before. I was blown away by Judas Priest and wanted every album they had made. The vocals of Rob Halford went right through me, as if I was hit by a speeding train while I kept pleading for more. The duo guitars of Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing left me awestruck, along with the bass of Ian Hill and drumming from Dave Holland. There was no other band like Judas Priest, during those early 80’s. I say bullshit to anyone who disagrees; there just wasn’t and it remains that way to this day.

This same magical year I bought 1981’s “Point Of Entry” on vinyl as well. My vinyl album cover art was the original shown at the top of this post. I no longer have the vinyl; the CD is in my collection though. My 2 favorite songs from this classic are “Heading Out To The Highway” and “Hot Rockin’”. If you wanna revisit some real cheesiness from those early 80s, just check out the music video for “Hot Rockin’” in your spare time; it does the song zero justice.

As a whole, “Point Of Entry” is not better than any preceding Judas Priest albums, in my Metal opinion. With that said, I dig this album much more than I dig “Turbo” or “Nostradamus”. “Point Of Entry” was never going to be looked upon as a killer follow-up to the breathtaking “British Steel”; yet it still is a formidable slab of Metal history that survived a dynamic era of eclectic and pop dominated mainstream music charts.

Metal be thy name. Stone.

IRON MAIDEN – “No Prayer For The Dying” – Revisiting This 1990 Metal Classic

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on March 21, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

I remember buying No Prayer For The Dying back in 1990. I thought it was so cool that this (now classic) album was releasing in October, the season of Halloween. This album now forever reminds me of Haloween too. Can you dig it? I bought the cassette version first and upgraded to CD some years later.

I still have the same CD (with the original cover art and not the bogus edited version) and just recently sold the cassette. Amazing I had the same cassette all these decades. Unreal. As for the album’s songs, I have my favorites: Tailgunner, Holy Smoke, No Prayer For The Dying, Hooks In You and Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter. “Holy Smoke… Smells Good”… I love that stuff.

I believe this IRON MAIDEN album doesn’t get the full credit it so deserves. In my Metal opinion, when I look at the Bruce Dickinson era of IRON MAIDEN, this album kicks more Metal ass than Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and The Final Frontier. Sure, Adrian Smith left the band and Janick Gers came on board with the production of this album; does it really freaking matter after all these years? Both guitarists are living legends, to this Metal maniac. What’s fabulous about this album is the songs are very much written like those of their 80’s classics; with no eleven minute over progressive baloney.

Bruce Dickinson sounds so superb on this album, per usual. Bruce truly shows his range on Public Enema Number One; just another memorable song on this album for me. I honestly listened to the cassette version of this album in my car, so many times, it’s nothing short of amazing. Without a trace of doubt, I have never grown tired of No Prayer For The Dying. This release is a MUST for any new IRON MAIDEN fans out there and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The only reason this album didn’t get it’s just due is for the year of its release. I believe if this album was released in 1987 or 1988 it would be regarded as highly as Somewhere In Time. Just saying. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Martin “The Bishop” Birch produced, engineered and mixed No Prayer For The Dying. This album was released via Epic. The iconic artist Derek Riggs created the incredible album cover.

IRON MAIDEN: Bruce Dickinson (vocals), Dave Murray (guitar), Janick Gers (guitar), Steve Harris (bass) and Nicko McBrain on drums.

MAIDEN’S ACCLAIMED REMASTERS GET THE CD DIGIPAK TREATMENT

Parlophone Records (BMG in the US) will continue their reissues series of the IRON MAIDEN catalogue with The Studio Collection – Remastered, covering the band’s sixteen-strong studio albums across their career to date.

Following on from 2014/2017’s black vinyl releases and 2015’s Mastered for iTunes project, The Studio Collection – Remastered will be released on the Digipak CD format, with the track listing matching the original UK releases. The recordings are taken from the same remasters as the 2015 hi-res digital releases. The albums will be released chronologically in batches of four, across a nine month period superseding the previously available studio catalogue and all titles will also be made available on streaming platforms. As a bonus for collectors, one CD from each batch of releases will also be optionally available in a specially artworked box featuring a 1:24 scale figurine and exclusive patch. In the November 16th batch, this will be The Number Of The Beast.

Maiden founder member and bassist Steve Harris says, “We’ve wanted to revisit these for a long time and I was delighted with the remastering we did in 2015. I thought it was the best that our albums have ever sounded and it was only right that we made them available on CD now too.”

All four albums in this first batch are available for pre-order now!

1st batch: November 16th

Iron Maiden / Killers / The Number Of The Beast (option of standard or collectors box set edition including TNOTB Eddie figurine and patch) / Piece Of Mind

SATAN – Signs With Metal Blade Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on April 25, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

From Metal Blade Records:

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the signing of long-time running NWOBHM legends Satan (Band) to its roster.

The heavy metal quintet has signed a multiple album deal with Metal Blade and has just finished recordings for their tentative new album to be released during the second half of 2018!

Comments Satan: “Metal Blade is part of Satan’s past and we are super excited for it to be part of our future. It seems so fitting, it’s hard to imagine another label that could give us a better platform for our music today.”

While standard bearers of the NWOBHM movement and responsible for ’83’s seminal Court In the Act and ’87’s Suspended Sentence, with their tentative new album Satan make it abundantly clear that in 2018 they are not interested in simply capitalizing on past glories. Comprised of 10 tracks of searing metal, it is blatantly and profoundly the work of the Newcastle upon Tyne natives at their very best, infusing their signature sound with a more raw, wild and spontaneous vibe than they showcased on 2015’s mighty Atom By Atom, in the process displaying more passion and energy than slews of bands half their age.

Having reunited in 2012 and returned to touring duty, Satan – comprised of six-stringers Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey, bassist Graeme English, drummer Sean Taylor and vocalist Brian Ross – once more proved their collective mettle with 2013’s Life Sentence and follow-up Atom By Atom; both records critically acclaimed and maintaining the high standards of their earlier releases. With such a powerful collection in their hands the band were unsurprisingly eager to take it on the road, and they once again had successful tours and festival runs in Europe, North America and South America, culminating with a slot opening for Pentagram in Helsinki, which Tippins counts as a true honor.

Satan will unleash their latest batch of classical Heavy Metal songs in the second half of 2018. Be prepared for one of the best Metal albums of the year and stay tuned for more information about it!

Feb. 21, 2018, NEW YORK – Revolver’s February/March 2018 issue arrives on newsstands today, featuring one of hard rock’s most iconic front men, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford (https://www.revolvermag.com/music/rob-halford-judas-priests-new-album-legacy-metal-leather-pushing-boundaries).

“I remember sitting with Glenn and Richie and talking about what we wanted this record to have in it,” says Halford to Revolver writer Steve Appleford. “And we wanted to make the heaviest, most classic-feeling record that we could possibly do for 2018, representing Priest as a band that’s been around for four decades, but at the same time, bring something fresh.”

The cover story is accompanied by the release of an extremely limited-edition Revolver x Judas Priest streetwear collection. The collection, which features a hoodie and long sleeve tee, is available exclusively via revolvermag.com (https://shop.revolvermag.com/collections/judas-priest-x-revolver-collaboration).

The new issue also features interviews with Maryland hardcore act Turnstile, The Great Frog jewelry maker Imogen Lehtonen, NASA navigator Paul F. Thompson and how his early years listening to metal shaped his future, Swedish goth rockers Tribulation, a look back at Pantera’s 1991 visit to Moscow for Monsters of Rock, and an interview with shredder/berserker Zakk Wylde.

New video content available via Revolvermag.com:

* Rob Halford, Lyric Dissector – Rob Halford walks us through a line-by-line examination of “Lightning Strike,” the debut single from Judas Priest’s forthcoming record, Firepower. The iconic vocalist unpacks the metaphors that he employs to tell a story of resisting divisive, fear-based manipulation at the hands of authority figures, reveals his deep connection to these issues and explains his view of Priest’s community of “metal maniacs” as a unifying force that can help people overcome personal difficulties.

SATAN – Announces First U.S. Live Dates

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , , , on March 5, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Satan - Live Sentence Tour 2014 - promo flyer - #1001

Legendary NWOBHM band SATAN have announced a series of live dates in the U.S. and Europe.

SATAN is a Heavy Metal band originating from Newcastle, England in 1980, known as part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement. Though generally obscure throughout their career, the band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-thrash metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s.

Their 1983 debut album, Court In The Act, is now widely acclaimed and regarded by many as the pinnacle of their career, during which the band’s line-up underwent a number of personnel changes and even changes in band name, releasing albums under the name of BLIND FURY and PARIAH, before folding in 1990. Guitarist Steve Ramsey and bassist Graeme English went on to found folk metal band SKYCLAD, while vocalist Brian Ross reformed his original band BLITZKRIEG.

SATAN remained inactive until re-assembling for a one-off gig at Germany’s Wacken Open Air in 2004, and finally reunited in their original Court In The Act line-up for 2011’s Keep It True festival. The band performed at several european festivals in 2011 and 2012 and have announced more festival shows and even a new album for 2013, to mark the 30th anniversary of Court In The Act‘s release. Bow to your knees, SATAN was back with its new album Life Sentence, released in April 2013 on Listenable Records.

Life Sentence was featured on many a “Best Of 2013” lists, and has been heralded as one of the best comeback album of the decade.

Footage of SATAN performing “Cenotaph” at last year’s Live Evil Fest in London is now playing at this location.

HELL stream the new single from their upcoming new record Curse And Chapter, entitled The Age Of Nefarious.

Enjoy the stream on the bands Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/HELLofficial/app_208195102528120

The Age Of Nefarious will be released October 25, 2013. Coming as a 10” Vinyl in several colored versions, it will include the single track plus three live songs recorded at the Bloodstock Festival, 2013.

The bands current incarnation with Andy Sneap (guitar) and David Bower (vocals) joining original members Kev Bower (guitar and keys), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums) will release the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut Human Remains (2011) on November 22nd 2013 via Nuclear Blast.

Hell - The Age Of Negarious - promo cover pic

The track list of The Age Of Nefarious reads as follows:

Side A:

1. The Age Of Nefarious

Side B

1. On Earth As It Is In Hell (live)

2. Blasphemy And The Master (live)

3. The Oppressors (live)

Commented guitarist Kev Bower: “In a world dominated by conflict, disease, corruption, poverty, disaster and crime – much of which has religion at its source – this is truly the dawning of The Age Of Nefarious. The song was always going to be the perfect opener for the new Curse And Chapter album since it lays the foundation for everything which follows, but when we were approached by our friends at Nuclear Blast with the idea of producing a lead-off EP, we also decided that out of four possible EP album track candidates – this song should also be the one. It represents everything which HELL represents – it powers along in awe-inspiring majesty, but takes lots of unexpected twists and turns before reaching its inevitable conclusion. The artwork is once again the result of our collaboration with Dan Goldsworthy, and it shows just a tiny fraction of the artwork he has created for Curse And Chapter. With regard to the additional live tracks – where better to have recorded these than from the main stage at Bloodstock Open Air 2013 – the spiritual home of UK Metal, during one of the best shows we have ever played, and in front of 10,000 of the most dedicated Metal heads in the world. We are proud to be giving you a glimpse into the second Chapter……”
