Swedish heavy rock/doom architects THE SONIC OVERLORDS have returned with a thunderous new digital single, “Calling Demons By Your Name,” accompanied by a striking performance music video. As the world seemingly devolves into chaos, THE SONIC OVERLORDS shine a beacon of hope in the form of a new single, “Calling Demons By Your Name.” An unrelenting steamroller of a track, packed with grit and power, that for a few minutes pulls you away from everyday troubles and into a realm where metal reigns supreme.

The new track pushes the band’s signature blend of crushing classic metal and massive melodic hooks into exciting new territory. Guitarist Morgan Zocek explains the vision behind the new anthem:

“The foundation of the song is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, but the chorus also brings in a touch of Journey through its melodies and harmonies. And that’s something I would like to keep experimenting with in the future, blending AOR elements with our doom/classic hard rock sound. I feel like that combination could become something quite unique.“

Formed in 2017 by guitarist Morgan Zocek, THE SONIC OVERLORDS joined a few years later by vocalist Marcus Zachrisson Rubin and the bottom-end of bassist Daniel Ramírez caught the attention of the global metal underground with their 2021 debut album, Last Days of Babylon.

The band established a “warm familiarity” by seamlessly bridging the gap between late ‘70s/early ‘80s classic hard rock and epic heavy doom (think Dio/Martin-era Black Sabbath, and classic Rainbow, Candlemass, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Scorpions and Michael Schenker Group).

ETERNAL MOURN: Italian Death-Doom Newcomers to Release Winds of Sorrow EP

Italian death-doom newcomers ETERNAL MOURN have signed with Terror From Hell Records for the release of their debut EP, Winds of Sorrow, scheduled for July 20th, 2026.

Born from the collaboration between drummer Debla and guitarist/vocalist Gabriel (Black Oath, The Rite, Extirpation), and later completed by guitarist Eros (Extirpation, Funest) and bassist/vocalist Santo (Araphel, Demonomancy), ETERNAL MOURN emerged from a shared desire to channel feelings of melancholy, frustration, inner decay and loss into music steeped in darkness and emotion.

Drawing heavily from the great death-doom tradition of the 1990s, the band pays homage to genre-defining acts such as Paradise Lost, Katatonia and Cemetary while avoiding mere nostalgia. Instead, ETERNAL MOURN reinterpret those influences with remarkable confidence and authenticity, crafting songs that feel complete, memorable and emotionally resonant, without sacrificing the raw and rugged edge that lies at the heart of classic doom/death metal.

Recorded at Spvn Studio in Guanzate, Italy, Winds of Sorrow consists of three carefully crafted tracks that capture the essence of the band’s vision: mournful melodies, somber atmospheres and a pervasive sense of desolation intertwined with powerful riffs and heartfelt performances. The result is a debut that balances melancholy and heaviness with natural ease, establishing ETERNAL MOURN as a promising new name within the contemporary death-doom scene.

DEAD VOID’s Cranial Devastation Out Now

On Cranial Devastation, DEAD VOID returns not with reinvention, but refinement of their singular, suffocating vision. Where the band’s debut Volatile Forms introduces a band steeped in cavernous atmosphere and psychological unease, their newest outing showcases something more deliberate, violent and far less forgiving.

Across five sprawling tracks, DEAD VOID invoke a form of doom-laden death metal that shuns clarity in favor of chaos. The album collapses inward under its own weight, lurching between glacial crawl and frantic rupture, with unearthly vocals screaming out like transmissions from beneath layers of sediment. The end result is controlled descent – oppressive, disorienting and relentless.

Recorded mostly live by Marcus Ferreira Larsen at No Master’s Voice, Cranial Devastation faithfully preserves DEAD VOID’s raw presence without sacrificing their dynamic range. The approach lends a sense of instability that permeates throughout the entire record. The album ends with a crushing Adrian Borland and The Sound cover.

GODTHRYMM Presents “The Sun Never Fell” Single ~ Projections Full-Length To See Release On May 29th Via Profound Lore Records

UK doom metal titans GODTHRYMM are pleased to present their latest single, “The Sun Never Fell.” The track comes off the band’s superb third album, Projections, set for release on May 29th via Profound Lore Records.

Projections completes the band’s Visions Trilogy which began with their 2020 debut, Reflections, followed by 2023’s Distortions full-length. Since the release of Reflections, GODTHRYMM has been recognized as the new emerging band from the UK to bring back the glorious aura of early-mid ‘90s UK doom metal, most notably formulated by the Paceville Three (My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Anathema).

Considering GODTHRYMM was formed and is helmed by UK doom metal veteran Hamish Glencross (formerly of My Dying Bride, Vallenfyre, and Solstice) and features doom metal drummer extraordinaire Shaun Taylor-Steels (formerly of My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Solstice), that classic UK doom metal DNA has already been implemented within the sonic fabric of GODTHRYMM.

Projections builds upon the cornerstones of Distortions. Now with an expanded lineup which includes keyboardist and co-vocalist Catherine Glencross, bassist Bob Crolla, and new second guitarist Kris McLaughin, Projections is GODTHRYMM’s most layered, varied, and complex release yet, all while still upholding the colossal emotionally charged heavy doom backbone that has defined the core of the band’s sound. Projections is also the band’s most aggressive album to date.

Projections includes guest vocals from original English Dogs vocalist Adie Bailey and Xentrix vocalist Jay Walsh on “Trenches Deep.” Additionally, now former My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe appears on “Endure My Skin,” reuniting once again with his former My Dying Bride bandmates Glencross and Steels.

This time the iconic vocalist takes center stage for the bulk of the track, whereas on Distortions, Stainthorpe provided more of a spoken word segment on the track “Follow Me”.

Projections was recorded at various stages throughout the last year at different studios with Andy Hawkins and Glencross at the helm. Cover art was done by Mitchell Nolte.

SPIRIT ADRIFT Releases Final Album, Infinite Illumination ~ Available for Purchase and Stream Now!

The end has come… long revered and widely acclaimed heavy metal giants SPIRIT ADRIFT have released their sixth and final album, Infinite Illumination, today via 20 Buck Spin. WARNING Returns With Rituals Of Shame, Out June 19th, Via Relapse Records

PIONEERING DOOM BAND’S FIRST NEW MUSIC SINCE 2006’S WATCHING FROM A DISTANCE

Warning return with Rituals of Shame, their first new album in 20 years, due June 19 via Relapse Records. The band’s 2006 album, Watching from a Distance, has become one of the most revered releases in doom metal, with Pitchfork noting it “stands among the high water marks of the genre,” and Stereogum declaring it the “greatest doom record of all time.”

“It’s my privilege to be able to present to you the first track released from Rituals of Shame,” Patrick Walker shares as “Stations” (https://youtu.be/x49aT-WREO0) is now available. “Whether you’re among those who have been waiting for this for twenty years, or whether you’re new to my music, it is with great pleasure and some relief, that I can finally give you a taste of the album that will follow later in the year. I wrote and recorded the entire record throughout 2025. This is the year I shall have the honour of sharing it with you.”

Walker, who also leads 40 Watt Sun, began work on Rituals of Shame in January 2025, writing seven days a week over three months as he turned his full focus back to Warning. The album was recorded at The Arch Studio, a 140-year-old former church in Southport, U.K., with recording and mixing handled by Chris Fullard (Idles, Sunn O))), Ulver).

The decision to make a new Warning album emerged from a transformative period in Walker’s life. Reluctant to explain his lyrics, he acknowledges only that the work reflects a deeply personal present moment, with the collection echoing the themes that have long defined his writing: longing, separation, and most of all, love.

Rituals of Shame also reflects a range of Walker’s longstanding influences, from the expansive melodic structures of Marillion to the restraint and clarity of June Tabor. He also cites John Brenner of Revelation as a formative influence, particularly in shaping his approach to articulating emotion through heavy music.

Chicago’s savage trio LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR will deliver their monstrous fifth album – their first in sixteen years – unveiling the merciless I HAIL I, confirmed for release through The Grind-House Records on May 1st.

Formed in 2003 and signed to Southern Lord Recordings just one month after their first show, the death-doom metal warriors LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR have released four LPs, three EPs, and an array of singles, all interconnected with concepts based on the bloodier tales of Greek mythology. The band has toured extensively across North America and Europe, crushing all in their path with their own brand of heavy fucking metal that has been likened to being beat to death with a spiked club. In the words of Maximum Metal, “If there is a [band] heavier than this, then I have simply never heard it.”

While the past several years saw the band emerging with several new singles, they’ve not released an album since 2010’s acclaimed Evil Power. That all changes this year with the incoming I HAIL I. LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR’s lineup on this merciless new record sees founding guitarist/vocalist Steven Rathbone (7000 Dying Rats) reunited with longtime drummer Chris Wozniak (Cöküs, Vanishment) and joined by new bassist Sanford Parker (Twilight, Minsk, Black Cross Hotel). 

I HAIL I dispatches ten tracks in barely thirty minutes, including a monstrous reenvisioning of Ethel Cain’s “Family Tree.” The album was recorded and mixed by longtime recording engineer, and now bassist, Sanford Parker (Yob, Eyehategod, Darkthrone) in Chicago at Jamdek Studios and Hypercube, and is completed with stark cover art by Dieofsuffering666.

I HAIL I marks the second album released independently on the band’s The Grind-House Records. The label’s first release was LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR’s Evil Power, the band’s best-selling album, and features their most popular and most streamed song, “Let’s Kill These Motherfuckers,” hailed by Henry Rollins as, “One of the greatest songs I have ever heard.”

The new album’s title track arrives as the lead single, with Rathbone stating, “The title track ‘I HAIL I’ is a rebellious declaration from Prometheus to defy the Gods and bring fire to humanity. This song is what LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR is all about: A loud and proud, punch in the guts. Meant to be played at maximum volume.”

Kentucky’s Doom laden Sludge lords HIGHGATE have joined the Horror Pain Gore Death Productions roster for the release of their new full-length album, Prophecies Of Eternal Horror. 

Emanating from the hills of Northern Kentucky, HIGHGATE unleash a Sludge filled, Doom laden yowl that speaks of years of struggle and despair. Prophecies Of Eternal Horror finds the dead bodies stacking to the sky as HIGHGATE grapple with global war atrocities, religious fanaticism and class warfare.

HIGHGATE has shared the album’s first single, “At Paranoia’s Poison Door.” The song is described as a blackened-doom battle cry against an overreaching government that wants us too scared to think or act for ourselves. The lyrical refrain of “crawl to your masters”speaks to the song’s theme of government capability to brainwash citizens into cowering boot-lickers.

After nearly 17 years of playing supporting roles in various bands, Nicholas Bonsanto (Lör, Empress, Helianthus, Barren) is proud to make his debut as a solo artist as the man behind Orchid Throne. 

While not a concept album, Buried in Black weaves themes of anxiety, depression, fear of death, and the search for life’s meaning throughout its lyrics. The title describes both the music itself and the feelings that Bonsanto has kept buried within for years. Accabadora is a Dutch doom band, founded in 2024. The band name comes from Sardinian mythology and refers to the woman who would relieve the sick and elderly from their suffering – at night, with a wooden hammer. It serves as a poetic metaphor for the themes of suffering, release, and death that shape the band’s music. Musical reference points include Conan, Primitive Man, and Amenra: crushingly heavy, slow, but dynamic.

The debut EP “Mazzolu” was recorded in the autumn of 2025 in a rehearsal room the band converted into a studio for the occasion, with engineer Maik Snippe at the controls. The result is a recording that stays close to the band’s live energy.

The EP will be released on February 1st, 2026, on all streaming platforms. A series of shows will follow in the spring; dates to be announced.

LONE WANDERER Release First Single & Video “Existence Nullified” | New Album Exequiae Will Be Released on January 30th

With their third album Exequiae (Latin for “funeral rites”), Lone Wanderer from Freiburg im Breisgau/Germany makes a striking statement in the realm of Funeral Doom. The band’s High Roller debut continues the thematic line of its predecessor The Faustian Winter, from the end of Faustian culture to inner grief and existential despair.

“Thematically and musically, we’ve never been closer to the core of Funeral Doom than with these five songs,” explains songwriter and guitarist Bruno Schotten. The tracks, including the nearly 25-minute centerpiece ‘To Rest Eternally’, combine majestic slowness, dense harmonies, and overwhelming heaviness. “The extended length of this track wasn’t intentional, but a logical necessity of the theme.”

Musically, Exequiae marks a high point in the band’s development: “Despite extensive excursions into elaborate harmonies, a red thread runs through the album. Including some more death-doomy passages, it sounds darker and more cryptic than ever.” The artwork, in keeping with the quartet’s tradition, is by Romantic painter Ernst Ferdinand Oehme, whose ‘Procession in the Fog’ captures the album’s grave stillness.

“We oversaw every step of the production, from the first guitar note to the final mix. This album is completely our work,” Schotten emphasizes. Exequiae is a funeral mass in slow motion, majestic, despairing, uncompromising – and stands as the band’s most compelling statement to date, treating Funeral Doom as a true art form.

Independent black metal band PROFANE ELEGY has released their newest single, “And Then We Are Gone,” a haunting and doom-oriented meditation on the fleeting nature of human existence. “This song was a fun switch up for us in that it is mostly clean singing and very doom oriented,” the band explains. “It’s essentially a comment on how we’re here one minute and gone the next and the world keeps turning. All we do and build in life snuffed out in a second without warning or meaning, the tragedy of existence.”

PROFANE ELEGY is a black metal band from Bangor, Pennsylvania, formed in late 2021 by guitarist J Gulick and vocalist Mikael L. The mood is dark to melancholic, but also majestic and epic. Hailing from Rome (Italy), THE FORESHADOWING are something like the musical equivalent of the city they come from. Founded in 2005, the group can look back on a successful and eventful history. Listeners of gothic, doom and dark metal are very familiar with the quartet’s work.

In 2023, THE FORESHADOWING ended a forced break of several years with the EP Forsaken Songs and a European tour with Saturnus and In The Woods. Now, New Wave Order is the group’s fifth full length album and their debut on LIFEFORCE RECORDS. The formation from Rome emphasizes its strengths on the album and offers cinematic tracks of dark music that is nevertheless immensely catchy and mood-enhancing.

NYC Doom Trio PRECIOUS BLOOD Release Visual Album for False Prophets

NYC-based purveyors of Blackened Caribbean Doom, PRECIOUS BLOOD has released False Prophets: Visual Album, the official visualizer from the band’s newly released debut. The cinematic offering consists of three songs and visuals from their first studio album: False Prophets.

False Prophets: Visual Album features 3 short films set to their singles “Old Man Abaddon,” “El Muerte” and “Whore’s Grave,” shot by cinematographer Rigo Diaz and directed by Grace Perez, the band’s drummer. The 3 stories are presented as parts of a Halloween themed horror anthology, reminiscent of Tales from the Crypt and The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, adding to its striking visual narrative.

Fully formed in 2024, PRECIOUS BLOOD brings together three veterans of the NYC scene: AJ on guitar, vocals (Jesus Knevil, Snake Canyon), Dave Kramer on bass, vocals (Blood Feast, Suaka, Stanley) and Grace Perez on drums, vocals (The Wickedexorcist). The band’s shared love of doom and underground metal is expressed in an unholy concoction of rum-soaked riffs, brutal lyrics, and mystical tribal sounds.
