On Cranial Devastation, DEAD VOID returns not with reinvention, but refinement of their singular, suffocating vision. Where the band’s debut Volatile Forms introduces a band steeped in cavernous atmosphere and psychological unease, their newest outing showcases something more deliberate, violent and far less forgiving.
Across five sprawling tracks, DEAD VOID invoke a form of doom-laden death metal that shuns clarity in favor of chaos. The album collapses inward under its own weight, lurching between glacial crawl and frantic rupture, with unearthly vocals screaming out like transmissions from beneath layers of sediment. The end result is controlled descent – oppressive, disorienting and relentless.
Recorded mostly live by Marcus Ferreira Larsen at No Master’s Voice, Cranial Devastation faithfully preserves DEAD VOID’s raw presence without sacrificing their dynamic range. Created in collaboration with director Domenico Montixi, the 30-minute film merges paranormal horror with Spaghetti Western atmosphere, drawing direct inspiration from Lucio Fulci’s City Of The Living Dead and Four Of The Apocalypse. The film is set to begin its international festival run soon, with a trailer premiering at FULCICON 2 in Milan, the event organized by the band FULCI to celebrate Lucio Fulci and Italian genre cinema.

My first taste of the invincible OVERKILL was their second studio album Taking Over. Released back in 1987, this masterpiece of thrash metal has stood the test of Metal time, for me. Taking Over should be filed under mandatory old-school Metal, if one is to create such a list.
I purchased this album first on vinyl at a regional record store chain called Strawberries Records & Tapes, while living in Connecticut. This retail chain no longer exists, closing its doors in 2006. Years later I bought Taking Over on CD. I never owned this gem on cassette.
My favorite song on Taking Over is the powerful thrash hym: In Union We Stand. To this very day, this song galvanizes my Metal soul and creates positive chills through my body. Electro-Violence encapsulates everything that a thrash song should be; speed, aggression, explosive and short guitar solos with a blistering rhythm section that induces moshing and head-banging madness.
Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth is still my favorite thrash vocalist of all-time. I always felt that his vocals are so unique that no other vocalist remotely sounds like him. This OVERKILL lineup, with Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth were truly pioneering and legendary, with drummer Rat Skates, bassist D. D. Verni and guitarist Bobby Gustafson.

LIK, the modern-day purveyors of classic Swedish death metal, return to glorious action with a video for “They.” Taken from their latest full-length Necro, which was released last April via Metal Blade Records, the video was directed by the band’s own Joakim Antman.

Standing loud and proud over so many imitators, LIK’s Necro is the musical equivalent of a classic shock-horror movie that’s drenched in blood and gore and packed with over-the-top extremities. Delve beyond the zombified cover art created by Stockholm-based tattooist and artist Jens Olsson (Ink Fanatics), Necro serves as a reminder of just how special and exciting the genre is: packed with blood-curdling fantasy stories about war, death, zombies, world apocalypse and murder all stacked with disgustingly-good rotten riffs.
Once again using uber-producer Lawrence Mackrory (Meshuggah, Katatonia, High Parasite, Decapitated), all music was recorded live over a three-day period, before vocalist/guitarist Tomas Åkvik headed to Uppsala to record his vocals at Mackrory’s Rorysound Studios. Mackrory has worked with LIK – whose name translates to “corpse” in Swedish, since their 2015 debut Mass Funeral Evocation and throughout their Metal Blade Records’ career that started with 2018’s Carnage.
Within Necro‘s ten tracks, LIK has created a seamless album, diverse in tempo but without losing any of their blood-soaked intensity and relentless in-your-face attitude listeners have come to expect. There are twists and turns that keep LIK on a progressive path without straying from their old-school trademark sounds inspired by the godfathers Dismember, At The Gates and of course, Entombed.
“We didn’t really want to repeat ourselves, but of course we wanted the LIK sound,” explains Åkvik on the writing trajectory of Necro.

Helsinki-based progressive melodic death metal band NUMENTO unleashes their new single “Wrath” from their upcoming EP, a relentless, hard-hitting track exploring the dark side of human nature. The band’s guitarists, Atte Asikainen and Aleksi Vehmassalo, tell a bit more about the new single. Aleksi states the following about composing and producing the song: “We started writing the song with the idea of making Numento’s heaviest song to date, one that would showcase our death metal influences. That’s what the song turned out to be, but we also added a few clean vocal phrases, albeit doubled with growls. Still, the song is our most aggressive song to date.”
Atte Asikainen continues about the production: “We continued the production together with German producer Chris Herrle to ensure that the world-class quality and impact familiar from our third album would also be present in the new music. However, this time we used less synths and focused more on the core sound of the band.”

Finnish thrashers Indemon have released a music video for their song “Abuse.” The track is taken from their critically acclaimed debut album, Reclaiming Chaos, which was released last June via Inverse Records.
“Abuse show’s the narrator’s perspective on the conflict in which they want to break free from a person, yet at the same time want to keep that person under their control. The narrator has an obsession with control.
Alternatively, it could be that the other person does not exist at all, and the narrator is actually a voice inside the listener’s head, a kind of inner demon, telling the listener how it wants to get rid of them, while simultaneously keeping them in its grasp.”
Danish black metal band ORM delivers their fourth album, GULD, out today through their long-running allies at Indisciplinarian.
With GULD, ORM marks another important step in their musical development, building on their characteristic epic and progressive approach to black metal, this time in a more direct and intensified format with five shorter and more concise compositions. Musically, GULD is ORM’s most focused and uncompromising album to date.
The five songs, which range from six to twelve minutes, are built around intense riff structures, relentless rhythmic shifts and complex melodies that weave in and out of each other like a musical kaleidoscope. The album moves between furious aggression, deep sorrow, and ominous calm, placing ORM in a field of tension between traditional black metal and progressive elements drawn from both death metal and classic metal.

In the lead-up to today’s release, the South Carolina-based band shared two previews. The first, “Front Door Phobia” featuring Andrew Herman from Johnny Booth, explores political unrest and social isolation, while the second song, “Obsolete,” is described by vocalist Nick Rendelman described as “the most abrupt callout-of-a-song we’ve ever written. This one is for anyone who has been harmed by someone they care for, and for the human reactions that come with it.”
Building on their earlier DIY EPs, Wiltwither expanded their sonic and conceptual scope with Pure Light. The album imagines a government experiment in which test subjects are dosed with a mysterious drug called Pure Light, unlocking telepathic bonds that are exploited and manipulated until the subjects lose their humanity. Across twelve tracks, the band narrates this descent with unflinching heaviness, cinematic interludes, and fearless experimentation.

The track begins with the metaphorical crack of a Bible slamming shut on a pulpit, signaling the end of blind faith and the beginning of reckoning. Its lyrics twist the familiar words of Psalm 91, a passage once meant to promise protection and peace, into something deeply corrupted.
In the world of “Bring The Sorrow,” faith offers no refuge, only torment. The song reimagines the sacred as profane, echoing through the backwoods of Appalachia and the swamps below, where every prayer is answered with silence.

About THE NOCTAMBULANT: In 2013, THE NOCTAMBULANT formed in Jacksonville, Florida, with a mission to spread the culture of Southern Appalachia through their unique interpretation of black metal. Merging the genre’s primal aggression with the crushing weight of blackened death metal and the haunting atmospherics of Southern Gothic, they sought to honor the myths, spirits, and eerie folklore of the region.
Founded by E. Helvete (Guitars, Vocals) and D. Franseth (Drums) following the breakup of their psychobilly band, THE NOCTAMBULANT emerged as they delved into the darker realms of black metal. With the addition of Lars Goerschafft (Bass) and later Rev Beaumont (Guitar), the band fully embraced a sound that merges relentless intensity with ghostly Appalachian storytelling, crafting an auditory spell of sorrow, brutality, and mysticism.
Their music weaves a sonic tapestry of feral blackened riffs, ominous melodies, and immersive soundscapes steeped in spectral Appalachian lore. Drawing inspiration from metal legends such as VENOM, CELTIC FROST, BATHORY, and DARK FUNERAL, THE NOCTAMBULANT channels both ferocity and haunting atmosphere, merging the unrelenting force of extreme metal with the ghostly echoes of ancient myths and the desolation of the Southern Gothic landscape. Their next album is set to emerge in 2026.

Phoenix nu-metal juggernauts SICKSENSE are back! Following two critically praised EPs, the band is readying the release of their debut full-length album, Cross Me Twice, on February 14, 2025 with Earache Records.
From the maleficent minds of dual vocalists Vicky “Killer V” Psarakis (THE AGONIST) and Rob The Ripper, comes a new wave of nu-metal. With the added arsenal of guitarist Agent Phil [Philip Lykostratis], bassist The Gothfather [Richard Regier] and drummer Smokin’ J [Joseph Polizzi], SICKSENSE have crafted their heaviest record yet, melting nu-metal elements with metalcore and electronic touches for a unique spin on the rejuvenated genre.
Commenting on the record, Killer V states:
“Our upcoming album, ‘Cross Me Twice’, takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster of a journey. We evolved from our traditional nu metal sound, by incorporating more modern metal and electronic elements into this album. The heavy parts got heavier, the soft parts got softer and the catchy parts got catchier. ‘Cross Me Twice’ explores a wider dynamic range, which leaves the listener not knowing what to expect with each release.
We were going through numerous personal issues amongst ourselves as a band while working on this record, which inevitably led to us parting ways with former members and bringing in new ones to complete it. These issues inspired the lyrical themes for each song. It wasn’t easy to go through and create, but we’re extremely proud of the end result.
I remember spending countless hours working on keys and the overall sound design of ‘Cross Me Twice’, on top of all the vocal arrangements I normally task myself with. Teaming up with our producer, Joey Doherty, was the final step and best decision we could have made to bring you guys what we believe will be one of the absolute best sounding albums of 2025.

‘“Wildfires’ is a fun braggadocio anthem about being the best you can be and not feeling sorry about it. It’s a call-out song directed towards our peers for them to be better people and create better music. Too many artists are ‘fake nice’ to your face, then talk smack about you behind your back. If you feel a certain way about someone, just be honest. Many bands play it safe with their music too. They’re afraid to push boundaries. We aren’t. We’ll incorporate rapping, singing, screaming, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music. Whatever fits and feels right for each song. We did this with ‘Wildfires’. It’s got it all. From a songwriting and production perspective, we do it exceptionally well. ‘Wildfires’ is a special song for all the fans who love us and it’s especially for our fans in denial who love to hate us.“
