QUIET RIOT 1996 ‘Greatest Hits’ – Yes, I Bought This CD Today! QUIET RIOT EPK You Must Check Out! WHOA!
QUIET RIOT – This morning I stumbled upon this Quiet Riot Greatest Hits CD at my local Super Walmart. It was released back in 1996 via Epic / Pasha. This CD cost me $5 (U.S.) and that’s not too shabby. What inspired me most (besides being a QR fan) to buy this CD are the two previously unreleased (live) tracks: Bang Your Head (Metal Health) and Let’s Go Crazy. Within the liner notes, there’s no mention as to where these two live tracks were recorded. That’s a shame.
I already own the Super Hits CD of Quiet Riot. The Super Hits was originally released back in 1999 via Sony Music. (See photos of alternate CD covers below). The only songs that are common between these two CD’s I’m discussing here are: Cum On Feel The Noize, Bang Your Head (Metal Health), Slick Black Cadillac and Mama Weer All Crazee Now.
You know how it is. Being loyal to a (huge) group of bands you grew up with can make you want to own every one of their CD titles that’s out there. The way I operate, I grab the greatest hits titles too; especially if the CD covers are different. I’m probably considered a Heavy Metal CD hoarder. I think I’ve mentioned this once or twice in the past about myself. Life goes on regardless…
I’m quite psyched that I finally bought this Quiet Riot Greatest Hits CD. All these years I’ve never realized two previously unreleased (live) tracks were on it. Yes, both live tracks sound very, very cool. I’ll add that both live tracks don’t sound like the (also very cool) 1983 US Festival tracks.
The Heavy Metal of Quiet Riot has lifted my spirits for decades now… and that is something I can never put a price on. Metal be thy name.

I was only talking about Quiet Riot the other day with a friend who’d licensed some of their stuff for another territory many years back. I have Kevin du Brow singing great BVs with Glenn hughes on his live in LA DVD – sadly missed. They did their part to bring the great songs of UK band Slade to the U.S. – Slade never really broke in the States for some reason. Here’s the original Mama weer all crazee now and cum on feel the Noize! Rock 101 continues! 🙂

Excellent stuff, Kev! I remember finding out about Slade due to Quiet Riot covering their songs.
I remember owning (on cassette) ‘Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply’. That Slade album was popular here in the U.S. when it came out. ‘My Oh My’ really grew on me… I have the digital single of it and it gives me the chills. 🙂
I kept 99% of my cassettes too, they “survived”!! Now I’m gonna look for it…

I’m very glad Slade is still around and Rocking… as well they should be! Did you guys ever jam onstage together?
I’ll tell you Kev, back in those early to mid 80’s over here, (within MTV and ‘zines) there was much reference to Slade and their influence to many bands that were “rising along the Heavy Rock food chain”.
I remember ‘Run Runaway’ being in MTV rotation for quite awhile. There are so many British/European bands of legendary Rock importance that just never rose to the top or maintained star status, here in The States.
Mott The Hoople, Ian Hunter (solo), Slade, (The) Sweet… I guess I could go on and on. It’s as if a huge chunk of Rock ‘N Roll history that was so essential to the evolution of Glam/Hair Metal in the U.S. just never had the proper embrace from the media over here. That’s my opinion, of course.
The NWOBHM bands seemed to grab a ton more attention over here… yet there are still bands in that legendary group from across the Atlantic that unfortunately didn’t get hugely popular: Diamond Head is the first to cross my mind. Tygers Of Pang Tang. Blitzkrieg. Another is Angel Witch and they have a new
album this year…

ha! you can go on about rock all day long Stone, no worries! Jammed with Don the drummer at a sound check in St. Petersburg in Russia when I was touring there with Christie – Slade were on the same tour. I remember us flying from Moscow to St.pete, on an old russian jet, and there was us, Slade, Mungo Jerry, and ex British Prime minister John Major on board, and as the plane threatened to shake its self apart as we landed in a blizzard, Dave Hill from Slade said, “hey lads, if this goes down, we’ll make the front page! ” WOAH! Rock n roll black humour! 🙂

Whoa! Talk about being on a flight with notoriety! Do you know if John Major is into Rock/Metal? I picture that guy being into Progressive Rock, like… King Crimson and Jethro Tull. 🙂

Ironically, Stone, John Major’s Father was a comedian and singer in the English Music Hall – so he has an interest in that. The nearest I can equate to the style would be the late 60’s pastiches by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band – so, not metal then, but an entertainment background nevertheless! Woah – how did we get here? haha!

The Bonzo Dog Doo… what?! Now that’s a band I absolutely never heard of! LOL! What’s makes this so funny to me is that a few minutes ago I had to scoop up some unknown dog’s poop off of my front lawn… after I stepped in it, of course! 😮

haha! Okay , here’s a REAL 101 for ya:
The Bonzos were closely connected to Monty Python, and also gave birth to The Rutles – a creation of Neil Innes (Bonzos) and Eric Idle (Python) which pastiched the Beatles. the other main guy in the Bonzos was Vivien Stanshall – a tortured but brilliant writer who co-wrote with Steve Winwood. The Bonzos music was completely mental and very funny. They had one big hit in the UK – A number 1 called ‘I’m the Urban Spaceman – produced by one ‘Apollo C. Vermouth, a pseudonym for -Paul McCartney! If you’re familiar with the Python films, Neil Innes pops up quite a lot.

My God how the world of Rock ‘N Roll is all connected! I did read about The Rutles over at 80’s Metalman’s site; I never knew about them! These “fun” British bands never were swirling around here while I was growing up; not in my area of The States anyways.
All the Monty Python movies were in the theaters as I grew up and some made it to HBO when that movie channel first came to being.
I am just flabbergasted at the Paul McCartney connection and his pseudonym! Quite honestly, I sometimes feel like Rip Van Winkle… so many events, bands and facts that I absorb and are “new” to me makes me feel like I’ve been asleep for decades! Whoa! \m/\m/
