On October 8th, 1971 – Led Zeppelin II was enjoying its 100th week on the UK album charts. It was Led Zeppelin’s first album to hit #1 in the United States. Led Zeppelin II is certified 12 times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for United States sales of 12 million copies.
On this day in 1987 – All three members of ZZ Top made advance bookings for seats on the first passenger flight to the Moon. That flight is still pending… and pending…
On October 8th, 1988 – Metallica peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with …And Justice for All. This was their first album to reach the top ten in the United States. …And Justice For All goes on to sell eight million copies in the United States.
On October 8th, 1988 – Cheap Trick peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their cover of Don’t Be Cruel. This was the first Elvis Presley cover song to enter the Top 10 in the United States since Elvis Presley’s death. Pictured above is the 12″ vinyl single cover art for Don’t Be Cruel.
On this day in 1988 – Def Leppard hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with Love Bites. This marked the band’s fifth single from their multi-million selling Hysteria album. Pictured above is the CD single cover art for Love Bites.
