On This Day In METAL History – November 28th – From The Kinks To GWAR
On November 28th, 1964 – The Kinks peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit You Really Got Me. This song was the first top ten single, from The Kinks in the United States.
On this day in 1970 – The Who hits #12 in the United States with their hit See Me, Feel Me from their 1969 studio double album: Tommy. See Me, Feel Me was not a track in itself on the original Tommy album; rather this song is included as the latter half of the album’s closer: We’re not Gonna Take It.
On November 28th, 1979 – Iron Maiden signed with EMI Records. Earlier in the month, Iron Maiden had recorded two songs for the compilation album Metal For Muthas, which was also released by EMI Records.
On this day in 1981 – Foreigner hits #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with Waiting For A Girl Like You. This power ballad is featured on the fourth studio album from Foreigner, aptly titled: 4.
On November 28th, 2005 – During a Pearl Jam concert at the Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Ramones drummer Marky Ramone joined them onstage for a rendition of The Ramones’ I Believe in Miracles.
On this day in 2014 – The mighty Cannibal Corpse perform a concert at Z7 Konzertfabrik, Pratteln, Switzerland. Cannibal Corpse are touring in support of their 13th studio album: A Skeletal Domain. This album was released in 2014 via Metal Blade Records.
On November 28th, 2014 – In This Moment perform a concert at Myth in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The band is on tour supporting their 5th studio album: Black Widow. This new album was released this month, via Atlantic Records. Black Widow debuted impressively, at #8 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, for the week ending December 6th.
On this day in 2014 – The powerful GWAR perform a concert at Tremont Music Hall, in Charlotte, North Carolina, on their Eternal Tour 2014. Corrosion Of Conformity and American Sharks are the supporting bands. Metal be thy name!
PAUL SHAFFER
On November 28th, 1949, Paul Shaffer was born in Canada. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Paul! Yeah! Paul Shaffer has been David Letterman’s musical director, bandleader and sidekick for over 30 years, earning his spot in Late Show history with “The World’s Most Dangerous Band”. Paul Shaffer was also a member of Saturday Night Live’s house band, during the pioneering era for this show, from 1975 until 1980. This dynamic performer played the memorable synthesizer solo on Scandal’s 1982 hit single: Goodbye To You.
Paul Shaffer played piano and keyboards on 1984’s The Honeydrippers: Volume One, a hit chart album which featured Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Nile Rodgers. On Joe Walsh’s ninth studio album from 1991, Ordinary Average Guy, Paul Shaffer plays both piano and keyboards. In 1995, Paul Shaffer appeared/played keyboards in Blues Traveler’s music video for the song Hook.
During 1998, Paul Shaffer was featured on the hit game show: Hollywood Squares. In 2010, Shaffer appeared with Bachman & Turner at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. His appearance was included on the live Bachman & Turner album which was recorded on that date. On October 6th, 2009, Paul Shaffer’s autobiography We’ll Be Here For the Rest of Our Lives: A Swingin’ Show-biz Saga was released. (See top photo). An incredibly impressive resume has Paul Shaffer achieved; there’s simply not enough space here to list it all! Metal be thy name!
MATT CAMERON
On November 28th, 1962, Matt Cameron was born in California. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Matt! Whoa! Matt Cameron is famously known as being a drummer for both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Back in 1990, Matt was joined up with the supergroup: Temple Of The Dog and was also a drummer and songwriter for the mid 80’s Grunge band: Skin Yard.
