On This Day In METAL History – February 22nd… From S.W.A.T. To Lynch Mob

Grand Funk Railroad - Some Kind Of Wonderful - promo 45rpm cover sleeve - #1976MO

On February 22nd, 1975 – Michigan’s Grand Funk Railroad had their hit song, Some Kind Of Wonderful, sitting at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

Above: A 45rpm cover sleeve for the S.W.A.T. theme song. It appears that the cover sleeve has Spanish spelling on it too.

On this day in 1976 – The instrumental theme song from the television series S.W.A.T. was a current hit. This song was written by Barry De Vorzon and performed by Rhythm Heritage. I was 10 years old in 1976 and this S.W.A.T. song would psyche-me-out beyond belief! I never missed an episode of S.W.A.T., back in the day either. Get this: My mother (God rest her immensely loving soul) would not allow me to watch Hawaii Five-O and gave the o.k. for me to watch S.W.A.T.; those were good times growing up that will always makes me chuckle.

You gotta remember, this television series was on before every major metropolis, city, town and small village in America had their own S.W.A.T. team at the ready. Nowadays, S.W.A.T. teams are as common as sliced bread. I suppose that’s not a bad thing, in case of an evil Reptilian Alien invasion.

To this day I don’t consider this S.W.A.T. theme  a Disco song. C’mon, now. I’m telling you, man, I felt invincible when I heard this song. I still kinda get those same super hero feelings when I hear this song to this day; therefore, the theme song from S.W.A.T. is… METAL. And I’m a nerd.

Lynch Mob - Winter Tour 2014 - promo tour flyer - #2014LMMO3377

On February 22nd, 2014 – Led by legendary guitarist George Lynch, the famed Lynch Mob performed at M15 in Corona, California, USA. Did you also know that Lynch Mob kicks 100%, potent and undisputed Hard Rock ass?

Journey Greatest Hits - promo album cover - #336SPNS

On this day in 2015Journey’s Greatest Hits is resting at #66 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, moving up 6 places from last week. This album has peaked at #10, while spending 343 weeks on this same chart. Unbelievable! Journey rules.

Kaotoxin is proud to announce that CinC (formerly known as Carnival in Coal) has signed to the French label. CinC is the live band put together and fronted by ex-Carnival In Coal singer Arno Strobl (We All Die [laughing], 6:33 & Arno Strobl…) to pay homage to his former act.

CinC, which features past and present members of 6:33, Infected Society, Yyrkoon, John Makay, Mercyless, Orakle, Gorod, and Fleshdoll, toured throughout 2014 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Carnival In Coal’s debut full-length, Vivalavida. The album was performed in its entirety on the tour.

The tour took the band to two great festivals (the Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault and France’s Motocultor Fest),  as well as many French cities. One of those cities, Amiens, is where it all began for the group several years earlier, and the show was filmed with seven cameras.  The resulting DVD, VivaLIVEvida (a tribute to the music of Carnival in Coal), will be released in advance at the farewell gig, which will take place at Kaotoxin’s second annual festival, KaotoxinFest#II, on December 5th, 2015 in Lille, France. The date for the Kaotoxin DVD release will be announced later in the year.

VivaLIVEvida DVD line-up:

Arno Strobl – vocals (We All Die (laughing), ex-6:33 & Arno Strobl)

Fabien Desgardins (Infected Society, ex-Yyrkoon) – guitars

Romain Caron (John Makay) – guitars

Matthieu Merklen (Mercyless) – bass

Emmanuel Rousseau (6:33, Orakle) – keyboards and samples)

Samuel Santiago (ex-Gorod, Fleshdoll) – drums
