On This Day In METAL History – July 31st… From IRON MAIDEN To XANDRIA

On July 31st, 1981 – The fabulous JOURNEY released their seventh studio album: Escape. This album has sold 9 million (plus) copies in the United States. Sweet potatoes and gravy!

On July 31st, 2013 – The magnificent IRON MAIDEN performed at Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. This was a concert on the Maiden England Tour. Run to the hills!

On July 31st, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Silence In The Snow (Special Edition), from TRIVIUM, is ranked at #2, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This new TRIVIUM album releases on October 2nd, 2015.

On July 31st, 2015 – Germany’s Symphonic/Cinematic Metal band XANDRIA have their new EP, Fire And Ashes released today, via Napalm Records. Fire And Ashes features a cover song of I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) from the great MEAT LOAF. NICE! This new EP is also ranked at #44 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa!

RIFFTERA – To Release A Debut Album “Pitch Black” On August 28th; Lyric Video “Rotten To The Core” (Feat. Björn “Speed” Strid) Out Now!

Rifftera’s debut album Pitch Black will be released on August 28th, 2015 by Inverse Records. It contains 8 songs and 54 minutes of angry, tight, crushing and yet beautiful riff-oriented Metal. Excluding drum recordings and mastering, which were done by a professional, the album is completely homemade.

On July 26th, 1970 – Rock and guitar icon JIMI HENDRIX performed in his hometown of Seattle, Washington, USA for the last time, at Sicks Stadium.

On July 26th, 1976 – The flamboyant and legendary TED NUGENT received his first Gold album for his self-titled debut studio album released in 1975. This said album would go on to sell two million (plus) copies in the United States. Holy Girl Scout Cookies!

On July 26th, 1982 – The fabulous FOREIGNER had their hit single, Break It Up, ranked at #26, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Send it in!! This great song is featured on FOREIGNER’s studio album 4, from 1981.

On July 26th, 1992 – Legendary KISS guitarist, songwriter and lead singer Paul Stanley married model Pamela Bowen. Unfortunately, the pair would later divorce in March of 2001. Shown above: Paul Stanley’s first solo studio album from 1978.

On July 26th, 2013 – The super-duper great IRON MAIDEN performed at Inönü Stadyumu in Istanbul, Turkey. This was a date on the MAIDEN ENGLAND TOUR. Very special supporting acts were: ANTHRAX and VOODOO SIX. Whoa, man!

On July 26th, 2015 – LAMB OF GOD VII: Sturm Und Drang is sitting comfortably at #1, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. In other words, true Metal warriors can never be underestimated. Never.

On July 26th, 2015 – The ninth studio album, Underworld, from the powerful SYMPHONY X is ranked at #2, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Hell and yeah!

On July 26th, 2015 – PANTERA Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys’ Vulgar Hits is ranked at #23, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Freaking yeah.

GARY CHERONE

Gary Cherone was born on July 26th, 1961, in Massachusetts, USA. Happy Rockin’ Birthday, Gary Cherone! Whoa! Gary Cherone is a co-founding member of the grand Hard Rock band from Boston: EXTREME. Gary Cherone was also a lead singer for VAN HALEN, being the featured singer on Van Halen’s 1998 studio album: III. Gary also toured with Van Halen, in support of their eleventh album III.

ANTAGONIST ZERO – “No Tears” MCD Releases On August 14th, 2015, via Inverse Records

As the Finnish summer draws to an end, the once white nights grow darker and colder by the day. Antagonist Zero delivers a fitting soundtrack for the season, complementing the darkening skies with a blend of atmospheric melodies and aggressive melancholy. On August 14 the band’s latest offering, No Tears MCD, is released via Inverse Records. No Tears continues on the path set by Antagonist Zero’s previous releases, the critically acclaimed Doomed and Nighttime Harmony, blending together elements of doom, death and post shades of metal.

No Tears consists of five songs: three originals and two covers. The originals are a harbinger of an upcoming full-length album, demonstrating new elements in Antagonist Zero’s music – such as the title track’s this-will-get-stuck-in-your-head riffs, Profound Oblivion’s wrecking ball groove and Suru, which is sung completely in Finnish. The two cover songs are familiar to listeners from the band’s live shows: Doom:VS’s melodic doom suits the band like a glove in the form of The Lachrymal Sleep, while Missä muruseni on, by Finnish pop queen Jenni Vartiainen, has received a work over which has already charmed live audiences all over Europe, Russia and China.

The release of No Tears will be celebrated on August 15 at Dark River festival in Kotka, Finland, where Antagonist Zero will be playing with such bands as Ghost Brigade, Poisonblack and Stam1na. More tour dates will be announced soon.

A SOUND OF THUNDER – Debuts New Album, Exclusive Cover Art On Kickstarter; Based On Valiant’s SHADOWMAN Comic Book Series!

Washington D.C. area Metal band A SOUND OF THUNDER has announced their new album “Tales from the Deadside” with a Kickstarter campaign that reached full funding in under 24 hours. The new album is a full-length concept album based on Valiant Entertainment’s SHADOWMAN comic book series.

The album was recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA-platinum awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). The new release “Tales from the Deadside” is set for release on September 25th and will be available on CD, limited colored vinyl, and in a number of exclusive pre-order packages only on Kickstarter. The standard CD edition of “Tales from the Deadside” will feature all-new Shadowman cover artwork, while select backers of the Kickstarter campaign can obtain an exclusive cover featuring Shadowman’s arch-nemesis Master Darque. (see below):

“The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world inspired us to create what we believe is our best album to date,” said A Sound Of Thunder guitarist Josh Schwartz. “We let the story lead us to places our music has never been before, combining all the elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found in the comics. Of course everything has gone through our own unique Thunderous filter, and all the familiar ASOT elements will be there, Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!”

A Sound of Thunder was formed in Washington, DC in 2009. Their most recent album “The Lesser Key of Solomon” was released on September 9th, 2014 via Mad Neptune Records and debuted at #43 on the Billboard Heatseeker’s Albums chart.

Here’s something even better: DEF LEPPARD’s fourth studio album, Hysteria, was sitting at #1, on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. This superb album went on to sell 20 million (plus) units worldwide. Whoa, man!

On July 23rd, 2011 – The exceptional IRON MAIDEN performed at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England. This was a date on The Final Frontier Tour. Hail Maiden!

On July 23rd, 2015 – Minnesota’s AFTER THE BURIAL have their album, Wolves Within, ranked at #16, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whiz-bang! This album was released back in the Winter of 2013.

On July 23rd, 2015 – AFTER THE BURIAL have their album, In Dreams, ranked at #46, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa! This album was released back in 2010. AFTER THE BURIAL are currently touring on The Summer Slaughter Tour – North America.

After a hugely successful Europe run with SLASH, RAVENEYE are thrilled to announce the legendary rocker has extended his invitation for the UK band to rejoin him on his US tour, starting October 7th in Minneapolis before hitting Canada for several dates, and then onto U.S. cities including Seattle, Denver and Los Angeles.

Before the Slash dates begin, RAVENEYE will make their US debut at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville on October 3rd. At the conclusion of the SLASH dates, the UK trio will hit the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento on October 24th.

RAVENEYE are celebrating the release of their new single, “Breaking Out” while their self-titled debut EP has been riding high in the Amazon best sellers list. AC/DC is ready to rock stadiums this summer. The ‪Rock Or Bust North America Tour rolls into Gillette Stadium – home of the ‪‎New England Patriots – on August 22nd and concludes five weeks later at ‪‎Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

After the release of ‘High Voltage’ in the summer of 1976, AC/DC headlined London’s legendary Marquee Club seven times between June and August.

In England, ‘Back In Black’ sold 10,000 copies a day in its first week of release.

AC/DC have headlined the Monsters Of Rock Festival more than anyone else: four times in 1981, 1984, 1991 and 2010.

The 1982 tour for ‘For Those About To Rock We Salute You’ was one of AC/DC’s biggest and the first to feature their signature firing cannons on stage.

The five-leg, year-long Razors Edge World Tour was one of AC/DC’s most successful, becoming one of the highest-grossing tours of 1991.

In 1992, AC/DC released ‘AC/DC Live’ – their first live album recorded with vocalist Brian Johnson.

On This Day In METAL History – July 21st… From GUNS N’ ROSES To ARTIFAS

On July 21st, 1987 – Guns N’ Roses released their groundbreaking debut album: Appetite For Destruction. This album would later spend five weeks on top of the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, eventually being certified eighteen times Platinum in September of 2008. Jumpin’ jelly beans!

On July 21st, 1990 – The magnificent Mötley Crüe had their hit song Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) ranked at #19, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on Mötley Crües’s fifth studio album from 1989: Dr. Feelgood.

On July 21st, 2011 – The powerful IRON MAIDEN performed at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre, in Aberdeen, Scotland. This was IRON MAIDEN’s The Final Frontier World Tour. Holy smoke!

On July 21st, 2015 – The new album, Inhuman, from Tennessee’s ARTIFAS is ranked at #92, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa.

On July 21st, 2015 – The new KISS movie, Scooby-Doo and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery released on Blu-ray™ combo pack, DVD and Digital HD. Now that’s ruff-rastic!

Acid King released their first album in a decade, Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere, in April. Outburn Magazine awarded the album a perfect 10, saying the new songs are “six of the most haunting, memorable stoner rock tunes in some time.” Decibel, who called the record a “superlative cosmic pile driver,” and dubbed the trio “pioneers of the whole stoner metal sound.”

Tickets for this tour are on-sale this Friday.

GRUESOME – Death-Saluting Metal Collective Announces Live Dates; “Savage Land” Out Now Via Relapse Records

Death-saluting Metal collective, GRUESOME, will take to the streets next month on a short run of live performances. Following an appearance at Obscene Extreme America Fest in Montreal next month, the band – which features guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed), drummer Gus Rios (Malevolent Creation), guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed) and bassist Robin Mazen (Derketa) – will kick off a mini tour in September, waging their classic Schuldiner-styled odes upon the ears of Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Cave-In-Rock, San Diego and Los Angeles. On July 19th, 1947, Brian May was born in England. Happy Birthday Brian May! Whoa! Brian May is famously known as a founding member, guitarist, songwriter and backing vocalist for the iconic QUEEN. Pictured above is the first solo album from Brian May, Back To The Light, released back in 1992.

Brian May has also achieved a PhD in Astrophysics. Brian May has a history of collaborations with such legendary artists as: Robbie Williams, the Foo Fighters, Cliff Richard, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Diana Ross and (the late) Luciano Pavarotti. Long live Brian May! Metal be thy name!
