GRUESOME – Death-Saluting Metal Collective Announces Live Dates; “Savage Land” Out Now Via Relapse Records

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Gruesome - Summer 2015 - promo tour flyer - #33003MOSMNMS99

Death-saluting Metal collective, GRUESOME, will take to the streets next month on a short run of live performances. Following an appearance at Obscene Extreme America Fest in Montreal next month, the band – which features guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed), drummer Gus Rios (Malevolent Creation), guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed) and bassist Robin Mazen (Derketa) – will kick off a mini tour in September, waging their classic Schuldiner-styled odes upon the ears of Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Cave-In-Rock, San Diego and Los Angeles. See confirmed dates below.

Issues Harvey of the trek, “We’re beyond excited to finally take this beast out on the road and deliver some Schuldinerisms at full fucking volume to the folks out there. It’s gonna be a blast to see the tunes come to, ahem, ‘life’ onstage and in the pit as well. See you there – bring beer!”

Gruesome - Savage Land - promo album cover pic - #2015MOG0223

GRUESOME pays homage to Death Metal’s most celebrated founding American acts, Death. As such, their debut full-length, Savage Land, released earlier this year via Relapse Records, is a delightfully punishing display of late-’80s/early-’90s Florida-styled death metal that keeps the true sound and spirit of Chuck Schuldiner and Death alive.

Check out Savage Land in its gruesome entirety (including two bonus tracks – a cover of Death’s “Land Of No Return” and Slayer’s “Black Magic”) at THIS LOCATION as well as the band’s unrepentantly brutal NSFW video clip for the title track HERE or below:

Savage Land was tracked by Gus Rios and Daniel Gonzalez at Riversound Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, mixed by Jarrett Pritchard at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida, and features a guest guitar solo on “Closed Casket” by James Murphy as well as cover art by legendary illustrator Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Massacre, Athiest et el). Savage Land is out now via Relapse Records on CD, LP and all digital outlets. Physical orders are available now at THIS LOCATION, and digital orders HERE.

Critical Praise:

“…less an exercise in nostalgia than a perfect reconstruction of a lost world.” – Decibel

“This isn’t your crusty, nasty, run-of-the-mill retro Death Metal. Hell no. This is the advanced, dripping-rot-from-the-corners-of-a-coffin, putrid, vile death metal throwback that you’ve been waiting for.” – Metal Injection

“Metal needs more albums like Savage Land… The legacy and sound of Death lives on ever so faithfully through bands like GRUESOME, and wherever he is, Chuck Schuldiner is undoubtedly windmilling ferociously and smirking ear to ear at the deathly sounds of Savage Land.” – HeavyBlogIsHeavy
