LONDON, July 1, 2014 – Electric Wizard have announced Time to Die as the title of their forthcoming studio album. Time to Die is the eighth full-length offering from the masters of aural punishment and is testament to the fact that Electric Wizard continue to be the most uncompromisingly heavy, genuinely twisted and evil band in the world.

This will be the band’s first album release since signing a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records.

Says Electric Wizard founding member, Jus Oborn:

“All of our albums in the past have had a theme; revenge, drugs, black magic and the theme of this one is death. Of course, death to us really means rebirth, so this album is a manifestation of a very primal occult belief in the final sacrifice. We have gone full circle, it was inevitable but we had to do it. We had to kill the band so we could be reborn. It was the only way to ensure we could come back even stronger.”

The artwork, once again created by Oborn, is an extension of that theme; this is further solidified by the LP gatefold image, which will be revealed soon.

Electric Wizard, having just played Hellfest in France, have the following festival appearances lined up for 2014, with more shows to be added:

July 3 – Roskilde, Denmark @ Roskilde Festival (Arena Stage)

July 4 – Knebworth Park, UK @ Sonisphere (Stage headline)

August 16 – London, UK @ Jabberwocky (The Excel Centre)

September 12 – Valada, Portugal @ Reverence Valada (headline w/Hawkwind)

October 10 – 12 – Antwerp, Belgium @ Desert Fest

Band To Kick Off Summer Tour As Part Of The Rockstar
Energy Drink Mayhem Festival

American Death Metal icons, CANNIBAL CORPSE, are pleased to announce the release of their thirteenth full-length entitled A Skeletal Domain.

Lucky number thirteen? Lucky or not, it’s a quantity of releases (not even counting VHS/DVD releases and EPs) and a wealth of material beyond which most bands could even fathom. The CANNIBAL CORPSE collective – vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, bassist Alex Webster, guitarists Pat O’Brien and Rob Barrett and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz – approaches each recording session with a honed and precise vision of a band in their third decade of existence.

With this new entry to their extensive catalog, they’ve switched gears, opting to work with producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver) at Audio Hammer Studios, after having tracked their previous three outings (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture) with Erik Rutan. Boasting twelve-ominous tracks in forty-four spine-fraying minutes, the result is a massive, belligerent, and deliberate aural attack that finds the band at their peak of their notoriously hyper-kinetic, meticulously executed brutality.

Preparation for A Skeletal Domain did not vary significantly from previous efforts. “At the end of the day, we’re still making a death metal record, no matter where it’s being recorded,” relays Webster. Mark Lewis offered a slightly different, modern recording approach, but the band stressed that they could not be more pleased with their previous albums with Rutan, and the door is most definitely open to work with him again in the future. Changing producers is something the band has historically done after every few albums, if only to not get too comfortable. CANNIBAL CORPSE also tried to step outside of their comfort zone when it came to songwriting and their musical performances. “Consistency is often confused with repetition. We are established with what we do as a band, and we could relax and not push ourselves, but we try to push the envelope. That’s what makes this exciting,” Webster adds. “Anyone who really listens to this album with an open mind will hear that it’s not same-old same-old.” Mark Lewis would concur with Webster’s analysis and even goes a step further by claiming that “there are moments on this record that have never happened in musical history.”

CANNIBAL CORPSE have proven time and again that they have more fuel in their tank, more riffs in their minds, and more ways to describe gore than any single group of human beings could ever have hoped. The thirteenth album will prove to be as important a landmark in their career as just about any other. CANNIBAL CORPSE are consistency defined.

A Skeletal Domain will be released in North America on September 16th, 2014 via Metal Blade Records. Point your browser to THIS LOCATION where you’ll witness the sonic trauma of second track, “Sadistic Embodiment” as well as a host of preorder bundles.

DEF LEPPARD – LEAD GUITARIST PHIL COLLEN KICKS OFF SUMMER TOUR WITH ONE-OF-A-KIND JACKSON® CUSTOM “X-STROYER” GUITAR

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on July 1, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Phil Collen with new signature model Jackson PC XSTROYER (2)

New Model Celebrates Collen’s Classic Guitars Made Popular 30 Years Ago

LOS ANGELES – When the Def Leppard summer tour kicked off a week ago on Monday, in West Valley City, Utah, Def Leppard fans in attendance were among some of the first to see the brand new Jackson “X-STROYER” guitar, custom-built for Def Leppard lead guitarist, Phil Collen. Collen decided to showcase the new guitar during the band’s 2014 summer co-headlining tour with KISS.

Collen’s original guitar was popularized by the iconic Def Leppard music videos for the hit singles, “Rock of Ages,” “Foolin’” and “Photograph.” Collen plans on playing his new, custom Jackson during those songs while on tour.

When asked about his new Jackson X-STROYER Collen stated, “This guitar isn’t an exact carbon copy of my Ibanez Destroyer; it’s aesthetically based on the one I played in Def Leppard’s classic videos ‘Photograph,’ ‘Rock of Ages,’ and ‘Foolin’’ in the 1980’s. Somehow that guitar seemed to take on a life of its own with the fans when they saw it in the videos. However, my new Jackson PC X-STROYER is the exact opposite with regards to the body outline/perimeter. The X-STROYER has a mahogany body with a maple top that looks solid black from a distance. But then when you get up close you can see the beautiful wood grain of the Trans Black finish. It has DiMarzio pickups, a Floyd Rose tremolo with FU Tone titanium block and saddles and a Jackson Sustainer/Driver pickup same as I have in my Jackson PC1s. My X-STROYER has a very thick neck, which also helps the tone. This guitar feels and sounds expensive. The intent while building the new instrument was to have a body shape that invokes the ‘spirit/enthusiasm’ of my classic model, but with a twist. Mike Shannon, Jackson senior master builder, really went overboard for me on this one and I think it’s the best Jackson guitar I’ve ever played.”

Jackson has announced plans to release another Phil Collen signature model that will be available to the public in August. The Jackson PC1 Stealth, a limited edition model from the prolific guitarist’s PC line with Jackson, will have two versions of this limited edition model manufactured with only 25 of each currently being built in Corona, Calif.
