Ephemeris is the third full length release from Icelandic Death Metal titans, BENEATH. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, At The Gates, etc.), at the acclaimed Studio Fredman in the fall of 2016. After the departure of founding member and drummer Ragnar Sverrison, BENEATH teamed up with Mike Heller (Malignancy, Control/Resist, Fear Factory) to handle the drums for the album. The result is nine tracks of relentless brutality; an odyssey through the forthcoming millenniums of exponential colonization of planets and galaxies by human induced technology; a world where technology has gone way beyond the frontier of the imagination.

Commented vocalist Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason, “We are immensely proud to announce the release of our third full-length album Ephemeris. We teamed up with Mike Heller to provide session drums for the nine-track album which adds a whole new dimension to the soundscape of BENEATH. Make sure to not miss the release date on August 18th!”

Guitarist Jóhann Ingi Sigurðsson adds, “Ephemeris has been a demanding album for us personally and in many ways, it represents a turning point for the band. We’ve always pushed ourselves in ways that keep us invested and engaged in our music, and on this album, that meant making big changes to our overall sound. There are songs that are a marriage of pure heaviness and brutality, while on the other spectrum there are some very challenging technical arrangements pushing the limits of our playing abilities. In the end, we ended up with an album that feels musically multidimensional and that we are extremely proud of.”

Ephemeris will be released on August 18th via Unique Leader Records. Check out opening track “Constellational Transformation” at the Unique Leader Bandcamp page HERE or below:

BENEATH was formed in 2007. The band released their first EP, Hollow Empty Void, in 2010 which landed them a record deal with Unique Leader Records. In 2012, BENEATH released their first full-length, Enslaved By Fear. The album was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (Behemoth, In Flames, Meshuggah) at Dug Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. In 2013, the band headed to Bialystok, Poland to record their second full length, The Barren Throne, with legendary Death Metal producers, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawski, known for their work with bands like Decapitated, Vader, and Behemoth.

The record was released in April 2014 to stellar reviews with No Clean Singing crowning it, “one of the best albums of the year,” hailing their special brand of, “dynamic, intricate Death Metal with a touch of somberness and depressive melody.” Angry Metal Guy concurred, “The Barren Throne is the culmination of … [all the] anti-religion, hate, death, blood, and gore of Enslaved By Fear only this time it’s dragged out across a lengthy eleven grueling abominations,” while The Sludgelord championed the record’s meticulous fusion of, “black, death, and a little bit of prog, all mixed within a cauldron of dark imagery and a tale of a dark being awakening and creating a world of despair and destruction.” 2017 welcomes Ephemeris.

Baltimore Doom Metal unit GATEWAY TO HELL – fittingly self-described as a, “groovy, ghoulish mix of doom metal and the laughter of ugly children, with a touch of inebriation and shame – will release their debut EP next month via Unholy Anarchy Records.

Slated to drop on July 21st, the five bottom-heavy ragers comprising Clovers were captured at Developing Nations with Kevin Bernsten on their home turf and douses its listeners with heavy riffs, an exceptional vocal attack, and sheer, unrepentant catchiness. The Maryland four-piece conjure loud music about things that matter. Whether it’s a slow burning, existential lament or a fast-paced scorcher about regrettable, late-night, drunken food orgies, GATEWAY TO HELL draws influences from all over the musical spectrum including Deep Purple, Danzig and of course, Black Sabbath.

Clovers will come available digitally and on limited edition vinyl in three color variations (orange/pink merge, clear with blue splatter, and standard black). Preorders are currently available RIGHT HERE.

Check out the title track at the GATEWAY TO HELL Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION or below:

Clovers – Track Listing:

  1. Clovers
  2. Tin Roof
  3. The Drizzard
  4. Rain For Days
  5. Scorched Earth

GATEWAY TO HELL was forged in 2013 when drummer Dan Petruccelli and bassist Rudy Gomez started jamming in the basement of an otherwise reputable Baltimore cake shop. Taking cues from John Carpenter soundtracks, Type O Negative, and Ministry, they realized they were onto something fun and brought in Jerrod Bronson on vocals and Jo K. on guitar to complete the initial lineup. The band released a self-recorded demo in October of 2014 and shows with the likes of The Skull and Crypt Sermon ensued.

By 2015, Gomez moved to Austin, Texas but remains an integral part of the band as the painter responsible for much of the band’s artwork. Eric Smythe was brought in on bass and later Alex Briscoe joined as a second guitarist. Together, they played shows regionally opening for Valient Thorr, The Bronx, Mac Sabbath, and Mondo Generator. In the spring of 2016, they recorded the soon-to-be-unleashed Clovers EP featuring five songs of atmospheric and crushing Metal that fuses their many Metal and punk influences. Later that year, Jo K. fled the band to pursue new projects. The band remains a four-piece. GATEWAY TO HELL‘s catalog includes a self-titled demo, one single titled “Scorched Earth” and their upcoming 2017 debut EP Clovers. The band is currently writing new material for their next album.
