About Mike Hrubovcak:

Mike Hrubovcak is an American illustrator who lives and breathes metal. Although highly versatile in creating a broad array of fantasy and horror-themed visuals, he has become best known for his extremely graphic and gore-laden death metal album covers.

Introduced to metal at a young age, Hrubovcak began his album cover ventures in 1993, drawing the demo covers for his high school death metal band Disillusion. This was also the jump-start of his extensive vocal career, which was later spring boarded by the formation of the band Divine Rapture with his brother J.J. Hrubovcak (now in Hate Eternal). While creating artwork for his band, Hrubovcak also did pen and ink, airbrush, and oil paintings for other bands and fanzines.

Hrubovcak’s vocal and musical career also flourished over the years, featuring on many records and touring for the bands Divine Rapture, Azure Emote, I.C.E, Vile, Hypoxia, and the early ‘90s Tampa death metal legends, Monstrosity.

Hrubovcak has created art for Relapse Records, Century Media Records, Revolver Magazine, Headbangers Ball, The Party.San, Maryland Death Fests, Hate Eternal, Sinister, Grave, Mortician, Decrepit Birth, Cattle Decapitation, InHume, Pathology, Guttural Secrete, Avulsed, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Cephalotripsy, and many others. He also had a monthly feature called Nightmare Visions on MTV’s Headbangers Ball Blog (taking over for the discontinuation of Paul Booth’s weekly art posts).

Hrubovcak’s artwork even branched into illustrating B-movie DVD covers and being used as background set dressing for a Universal Pictures feature film and has been displayed in many art galleries and featured in collective art books worldwide.

BURTON C. BELL – To Debut “Paradise Found” Photography Series At Vincent Castiglia Gallery

Industrial metal’s pioneering vocalist BURTON C. BELL will unveil his “Paradise Found” photography series at the Vincent Castiglia Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Florida next month.

The series features twenty original, full-color photographs of abandoned industrial buildings taken in darkness and fog from 2002-2003. BELL’s images are printed on aluminum using the Dye Sublimation process – an approach BELL calls “celluloid impressionism.” The photographs are representational of BELL’s industrial and science fiction aesthetic.

The Vincent Castiglia Gallery, which opened in 2022 to showcase Castiglia’s tattoo designs and selection of limited-edition painting prints, will be premiering BURTON C. BELL’s work on March 11th. The exhibit will run through May 23rd.

BURTON C. BELL is renowned for his thirty-year career as the frontman and vocalist in the groundbreaking industrial metal band Fear Factory. His vocal style became the template for a genre of music that became a mainstay of the metal music scene. BELL’s fascination with science fiction and his love for industrial buildings and machinery inspired his dystopian lyrical concepts. These themes evolved into focal points for his photography, in particular the abandoned and derelict structures of a post-industrial society that have become obsolete.

In 2002, while recording new music in a studio surrounded by forest, it was in the borough of Milton, Pennsylvania that BELL found paradise within the small town that was once the heart of manufacturing in the Susquehanna Valley. Milton’s days of industry are long gone; however, the factories and buildings remain dormant and empty, inspiring BELL’s music and vision.

Comments BELL, “I am grateful to have this opportunity to show ‘Paradise Found’ at the Vincent Castiglia Gallery so that I can share the beauty I saw during those few seconds of exposure. These prints have not been photoshopped. This is exactly what I was seeing.”

The event is part of BELL’s grander vision as he pursues his next chapter as a multi-faceted artist. For further inquiry please visit: VincentCastigliaGallery.com.

Anyone that doesn’t own this second studio album from Boston needs to put down their prune juice and take a course in Rock History.

IRON MAIDEN – Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988)

Yes, there are a few UFO’s hovering around (a half of an) Eddie, on this album cover. This was another cover art masterpiece from the great Derek Riggs. Whoa!

ASIA – Aqua (1992)

The above UFO could also be considered a USO (Unidentified Submerged Object), if the imagery on this album cover is under water. Confused? So am I. By the way, this ASIA CD is out-of-print and costs just under $40 (U.S.) on Amazon.com. Whoa.

RUSH – Clockwork Angels Tour (2013)

I cannot identify that large and strange-looking aircraft above that concert stage while RUSH is performing; therefore it is a creepy UFO. ‘Nuff said.
