GREY SKIES FALLEN – NYC-Area Death/Doom Act Releases “Earthwalker” Two-Song Single As Free Download; Preorders For Limited 7″ Vinyl Version Available

NYC-area Death/Doom quintet, GREY SKIES FALLEN, has issued the latest in their extensive roster of independently released recordings, with the Earthwalker single, via a free digital download, as the 7″ vinyl version is completed, all while the band continues to construct material for their next impending LP.

With merely two-songs, Earthwalker does an impressive job of delivering a solid new serving of GREY SKIES FALLEN‘s mammoth musical ways, with over thirteen minutes of brand new material. This is some of the final material to be recorded at Audio Playground (RIP), with additional recording handled at Suffolk Recording Studios, with the tracks recorded, mixed and mastered by Keith Moore.

The namesake track, Earthwalker dominates the A-side, its immediately massive delivery fueled by a steady pace backing a grand and epic aura, with searing, blackened scorn infiltrating the powerful layering of multiple vocal styles which take control of the track.

Side B‘s nearly seven-minute Safe Passage, with a more plodding momentum, shows each element of the five-member faction pushing to the surface; intoxicating waves of synth, pummeling bass thunder, interwoven guitar leads and that dynamic array of vocal styles culminate within one of the most inspiring epic doom tracks from the band to date.

Earthwalker is set for October release on 7″ vinyl, the pressing limited to 120 copies on grey/green swirl wax with a lyric insert, the full-color artwork throughout once again provided by Travis Smith (Death, Opeth, King Diamond) as with other prior GREY SKIES FALLEN releases. In addition, the band has graciously released the EP as a FREE digital download to their loyal fanbase.

Forged in 2001 by Mäkelä and Lindqvist, TYRANNY was conceived under the strain of a Stranger Will to channel the Ageless resonations of Earth and Oceans and sonorous visions and fevered dreams by the means of epic, Funereal Soundscapes. In 2004 the band unsheathed their debut, Bleak Vistae, which shook the foundation of a small, reclusive yet inexorably devoted funeral doom scene.

Crowned an, “epic masterpiece,” and commended for its, “mystical atmosphere,” and, “crushing wall of sound,” by Ultimate Guitar, 2005’s Tides Of Awakening reaped the attention of critics globally. Metal Bite championed a record that was, “uncompromising and extreme,” while Metal Reviews, in an “Album Of the Month” review likened it to, “a partner piece instructing in the discipline of appreciating one’s own suffering.”

TYRANNY has always operated in the shadows, worked on intuition and done things only when there was a will and the time seemed right for it. The past ten years have been devoted to various live appearances such as Roskilde Festival, Roadburn and the Kill-Town Deathfest, and the slow writing process of Aeons In Tectonic Interment – the band’s most devout work to date.

Aeons In Tectonic Interment will see release via Dark Descent Records on CD, double LP and digitally on September 18th, 2015 with preorders and track samples to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Joe Elliot also leads his band, Down ‘n’ Outz, a cover band of the great Mott The Hoople. Joe Elliot is also currently a member of the amazing All-Star band: Kings Of Chaos. Long live Joe Elliot!

ANTAGONIST ZERO – “No Tears” MCD Releases On August 14th, 2015, via Inverse Records

As the Finnish summer draws to an end, the once white nights grow darker and colder by the day. Antagonist Zero delivers a fitting soundtrack for the season, complementing the darkening skies with a blend of atmospheric melodies and aggressive melancholy. On August 14 the band’s latest offering, No Tears MCD, is released via Inverse Records. No Tears continues on the path set by Antagonist Zero’s previous releases, the critically acclaimed Doomed and Nighttime Harmony, blending together elements of doom, death and post shades of metal.

No Tears consists of five songs: three originals and two covers. The originals are a harbinger of an upcoming full-length album, demonstrating new elements in Antagonist Zero’s music – such as the title track’s this-will-get-stuck-in-your-head riffs, Profound Oblivion’s wrecking ball groove and Suru, which is sung completely in Finnish. The two cover songs are familiar to listeners from the band’s live shows: Doom:VS’s melodic doom suits the band like a glove in the form of The Lachrymal Sleep, while Missä muruseni on, by Finnish pop queen Jenni Vartiainen, has received a work over which has already charmed live audiences all over Europe, Russia and China.

The release of No Tears will be celebrated on August 15 at Dark River festival in Kotka, Finland, where Antagonist Zero will be playing with such bands as Ghost Brigade, Poisonblack and Stam1na. More tour dates will be announced soon.

A SOUND OF THUNDER – Debuts New Album, Exclusive Cover Art On Kickstarter; Based On Valiant’s SHADOWMAN Comic Book Series!

Washington D.C. area Metal band A SOUND OF THUNDER has announced their new album “Tales from the Deadside” with a Kickstarter campaign that reached full funding in under 24 hours. The new album is a full-length concept album based on Valiant Entertainment’s SHADOWMAN comic book series.

The album was recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA-platinum awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). The new release “Tales from the Deadside” is set for release on September 25th and will be available on CD, limited colored vinyl, and in a number of exclusive pre-order packages only on Kickstarter. The standard CD edition of “Tales from the Deadside” will feature all-new Shadowman cover artwork, while select backers of the Kickstarter campaign can obtain an exclusive cover featuring Shadowman’s arch-nemesis Master Darque. (see below):

“The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world inspired us to create what we believe is our best album to date,” said A Sound Of Thunder guitarist Josh Schwartz. “We let the story lead us to places our music has never been before, combining all the elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found in the comics. Of course everything has gone through our own unique Thunderous filter, and all the familiar ASOT elements will be there, Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!”

A Sound of Thunder was formed in Washington, DC in 2009. Their most recent album “The Lesser Key of Solomon” was released on September 9th, 2014 via Mad Neptune Records and debuted at #43 on the Billboard Heatseeker’s Albums chart.

GRUESOME – Death-Saluting Metal Collective Announces Live Dates; “Savage Land” Out Now Via Relapse Records

DEATHWHITE – To Release “Solitary Martyr” EP On August 14th

A year after the release of their well-received debut Ethereal EP, dark metal outfit Deathwhite has returned with the Solitary Martyr EP.

The product of increased focus on vocal melodies and hooks, Solitary Martyr displays a keener sense of depth and versatility than its predecessor. Recorded by Brette Ciammara at Studio 344, the production is more robust, as are the riffs, retaining a feel and flare akin to the bands that were so crucial inspiring Deathwhite in the first place.

Solitary Martyr will be self-released by the band on August 14, 2015. A special, limited edition (200 copies) version of the album will be made available on CD, with the aforementioned Ethereal EP tacked on as bonus tracks.

Pavement Music To Release Self-titled Album From Thrash Pioneers SONICK PLAGUE

Pavement Music has announced a July 24 release for the self-titled, re-recorded and re-energized version of the 1988 debut from old-school thrash-masters Sonick Plague. Originally titled “What’s the Purpose,” this updated version of the album was recorded at the legendary Carriage House Studios and captures the powerful energy and grit of the origins of thrash metal.

Sonick Plauge are veterans (and some say) pioneers of the classic, thrash metal sound. This raw and lively sound originated in the hills of West Virginia in 1984. The lineup was solidified in Connecticut a few years later with founders Ken Cuccaro (drums) and Tim Meehan (guitars), along with Tony Teodoro (guitars) and Sean Donnelly (bass, vox).

Things started moving for Plague when they landed their first show at the legendary Anthrax in Norwalk, CT. Owners Shaun and Brian Sheriden signed the metal quartet to their own label (Anthrax Records) and the debut album, What’s the Purpose, was released in 1988. Immediately after the album’s release, Tim Meehan retreated south and (after an exhaustive search) was replaced by childhood friend Chuck Crilly (guitars). The band embarked on a self-supported tour and played alongside the likes of Death Angel, Voivod, Gwar, Pantera, Ludichrist, Crumbsuckers and many more. The tour took its toll on the guys and after a couple unsuccessful lineup changes, the band dissolved.

In 2012 Sonick Plague lost their beloved friend and brother Tony Teodoro. The tragic and untimely passing found Ken, Sean and Chuck talking again and soon back to their old musical form. Matt Dupre was recruited to round out the reformed band and a decision was made to re-record and release the debut album while they continue working on material for a follow-up.

Chicago’s TRIALS To Release “This Ruined World” On July 24th

Chicago-based Metal powerhouse TRIALS will release their third full-length, “This Ruined World” on July 24.

Following a pair of critically acclaimed independent releases – Witness to the Downfall (2011) and In the Shadow of Swords (2013), TRIALS has returned with their most evolved effort to date. Featuring nine tracks of intricately woven, relentless and forward-thinking metal, This Ruined World blends aggression and progression for devastating results. Diehard DIYers, TRIALS is a band determined to blaze its own path, free from label interference. This unwavering dedication to substance over style has never been more apparent than it is on This Ruined World.

“This Ruined World contains some of the darkest, most complex music that we have made yet. We put a lot of blood and sweat into this project, and ended up with a record that represents us at our very best,” stated guitarist / vocalist Mark Sugar.

The album was recorded by Pete Grossmann at Bricktop Recording (Weekend Nachos, Hollow Earth) and mixed by Quentin Poynter at Gunpoint Recording (The Skull, Veil of Maya), with art work courtesy of Eva Bialecki (Jar’d Loose).

IRON MAIDEN “The Book Of Souls” – Double Studio Album Releasing On September 4th!

IRON MAIDEN’s eagerly awaited new studio album The Book Of Souls will be released globally on 4th September through Parlophone Records (BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch.

The stunning cover art was created by Mark Wilkinson who has worked with the band previously, and because this 11 track album has a total running time of 92 minutes, it is IRON MAIDEN’s first ever double studio album. There’s a broader split on the song-writing compared to previous Maiden records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; 6 of them with Maiden’s guitarists and one sole composition. This is also the first time since 1984’s Powerslave that an IRON MAIDEN studio album also features two tracks written solely by Bruce Dickinson, one of which is the longest song Maiden has ever recorded! And also two Dickinson/Smith collaborations.

Steve comments,

“We approached this album in a different way to how we’ve recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them I think. I’m very proud of The Book Of Souls, we all are, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!”

Bruce continues,

“We’re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we’d done the Brave New World album back in 2000 so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there! So we immediately felt at home and the ideas just started flowing. By the time we’d finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double it’s going to be!”

The Book Of Souls is the band’s 16th studio album since their eponymous debut in 1980 charted at #4 in the UK, in a career achieving sales of over 90 million albums worldwide. Their previous album, 2010’s The Final Frontier was Maiden’s most successful chart-wise to date, reaching Number One in 28 countries and was their highest chart debut in the U.S reaching #4 in the Billboard 200.

Due to Bruce’s illness the band had to delay touring plans but promise to be out on the road again early next year, giving time for Bruce to make a full physical recovery to be ready for the rigours of Maiden live performances.

MORD’A’STIGMATA – RECORDING NEW MATERIAL

Mord’A’Stigmata is in the process of recording new music for their brand new mini-album titled Our Hearts Slow Down. It will feature over 30 minutes of music which will include three new tracks. It is scheduled to be released via Pagan Records in Autumn 2015. The album artwork will be done by Black Moon Design.

Guitarist, Static, comments:
“This is the darkest and rawest Mord’A’Stigmata material to date but at the same time it features huge musical contrasts. It led us to places we have not visited and would have not dared to before. There is no return from this road, this is the next violent step into ruin.”

The band is scheduled to perform at the prestigious Castle Party in Poland on 16 – 19 July 2015.

DISTANT SUN “Dark Matter” Debut Studio Album – Out Now And Streaming

Dark Matter, the debut album from Russian power/speed metal act DISTANT SUN is out now on Metalism Records. Stream it in its entirety at this location.

Dark Matter is available for purchase from Google Play and iTunes.

The album is the follow-up to 2012 EP Sunless Citadel (Sublimity Records) and features 10 songs in the finest traditions of melodic European power metal, bolstered with elements of American thrash metal. A deluxe digipak edition that includes several bonus cover songs will be released later in the year.

Though DISTANT SUN‘s main influences are speed and power metal bands like ANNIHILATOR, ICED EARTH, BLIND GUARDIAN and RAGE; listeners will note a James Hetfield (METALLICA) vocal style. No keyboards or drum samples were used during the recording, and the overall sound brings the feel of the heavy ’90s. The drums on Dark Matter were recorded in Kiev, Ukraine, while the remainder was produced in various Moscow studios. The lyrics deal with a variety of topics, including science fiction, space travel, mysticism, fantasy and adventure. The cover art was designed by W. Smerdulak (ARKONA).

The band is planning its very first gigs for the autumn of 2015 in promotion of Dark Matter, after which DISTANT SUN will begin work on a sophomore full-length.
