SIG:AR:TYR – To Release New Album

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 22, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

SIG AR TYR - Northen - promo album cover pic - 2015

Canadian Blackened Heavy Metal act SIG:AR:TYR are proud to announce that they will be releasing their new album Northen this fall.

While SIG:AR:TYR has in the past been known as atmospheric blackened folk, Northen shifts into more traditional Metal territory, while maintaining the dark sounds of earlier material.

The band’s mastermind (and sole permanent member) Daemonskald had the following to say about the album:

“The album deals with the end of the Viking age, and the adventures of the Norse in our own country, Canada. Unlike the permanent settlements in Greenland, their stay here was short-lived, and we are still discovering the extent of their travels, the artifacts from their small settlements, and unfolding the tales of their interaction with the native cultures here at the time. “Northen” is a tale of tribute to this small group of adventurers, who with a dynamic, and individualistic spirit, were still willing to throw stability and comfort aside to explore mysterious new places like Helluland, Markland, and Vinland, and try to be their own master in a changing world.”

More details will be announced in the near future. You can currently hear the entire SIG:AR:TYR catalog on Bandcamp here: https://sigartyr.bandcamp.com/ or below:

BOSS KONG – Lets “The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II” Loose With Exclusive Stream And Feature At Decibel Magazine

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , on April 21, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Boss Kong

Having punished the humans with their rightful ways through initial warnings, primate biker horde, BOSS KONG, has successfully infiltrated the populous with The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II for Record Store Day. While the vinyl incarnation of the recordings on this platter is about to become extinct, the full 7″ has been put on antagonistic display for the ditch-dredgers of humanity to endure courtesy of Decibel Magazine.

A segment of the brief Decibel interrogation of simian masterfuck of BOSS KONG, focusing specifically on the B-side Vietnam flashback single, “Viet Kong,” sees the brave mag scribe inquiring, “Who’s worse, music critics or the Vietcong?” Kong’s reply cuts to the dead heart of the matter, offering, “Not much difference, is there? They both pop out of their little holes when you least expect it and try to shoot you in the face. And they’re all Communists.”

Get your full dose of the BOSS KONG cross-examination and the full The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II via the cross-species investigators at Decibel Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

Once its wax supplies are sold out, The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II is out of print in a physical incarnation, but Bandcamp downloads can be placed HERE, and the remaining mailorder physical copies HERE.

The Humans Soundtrack Volume II 7″ was created solely for Record Store Day 2015 in a limited, one-time-only run of orange/gold vinyl, the bloody slab’s exclusive cover art and insert art created by creator Tom Neely (Henry and Glenn Forever) for extra scene points. Fans of Boris, Deathspell Omega, and Sonic Youth, this sounds nothing fucking like that. Set in the late 1960s/early ’70s, “The Humans” is a book about an all-simian biker gang from Bakersfield, California, drinking, fighting, and fucking their way through the turbulent world around them.

BOSS KONG is one of the book’s more popular, interesting characters and this installment of the soundtrack series tells tales from the perspective of an ape that’s seen inhumanities both abroad and on the home front. Voiced by a mystery metal figurehead and performed by a cast of mystery stoner rockers, part of the fun of this 7″ is trying to figure out who’s behind the music itself.

Once revisiting the glory days, two new hash-pipe nightmare rocker jams await, spreading the rampaging demoralization of the Tet Offensive onto coked-up mullet debauchery on The Humans Soundtrack Volume II, like Ponyboy Curtis ten years after he went from gold to crushed Milwaukee aluminum, now leading the outcasts from the Planet Of The Apes into full-on bar-brawl burnout turf of the metal underworld.

Morthus - Into Oblivion - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #MMMMO6

The new EP from MORTHUSInto Oblivion, was finally self-released on October 22nd in 2014. Into Oblivion delivers a devilish well composed and technical demanding 4-track orgy, to which the band wants to invite lovers of NAGLFAR, DISSECTION and DARK FUNERAL now. Raised to serve the dark in the fall of 2011, the line-up of Blackened Melodic Death Metal enthusiasts, MORTHUS, was unholy completed at the end of 2013. First gigs were celebrated, the style of the formation got optimized.

Buy, Support, Listen To MORTHUS:

The teutonic encouraged hell-horde from the eastern part of Germany decided to besiege a record studio for their first Demo EP in early 2014. In the summer of 2014, after playing several sweat-driving club gigs, MORTHUS recorded four well-chosen Satanic hymns, at Nautilus Studio in Gera, Germany.

SIGH – Legendary Japanese Avant Extreme Metal Quintet To Release Tenth Studio Album Via Candlelight Next Month

Posted in Extreme Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sigh - Graveward - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #9909SMO

Japanese extreme metal/noise icons, SIGH, will unveil their crushing tenth studio opus next month. Titled Graveward, the eclectic, ten-track offering took over two-and-a-half years to complete with each song comprising over one-hundred recording tracks exceeding 100GB of audio to select from in the final mixes. Inspired by musician/composer Fabio Frizzi, Graveward pays homage to Italian zombie and Hammer Horror classics.

Graveward features guest performances from Trivium’s Matthew Heafy, DragonForce’s Fred Leclercq, Shining’s Niklas Kvarforth, Rotting Christ’s Sakis Tolis, The Meads Of Asphodel’s Metatron and others with fittingly twisted, grave-robbing cover art by Costin Chioreanu (Ihsahn, At the Gates, Deicide, Ulver, etc.).

In an early impression of the record, A Metal State Of Mind notes, “With a focus of a theme, more touches of thrash, and guest spots from more ‘mainstream’ metal artists from bands like Trivium and DragonForce, I would have to say Graveward is the most accessible SIGH record. A great starting point to delve into the madness with if you haven’t yet. Best thing, with this accessibility, none of the experimentation that makes SIGH great has been sacrificed.”

Already devouring the hordes in Europe, Graveward will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on May 4th, 2015.

Sigh - Graveward - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #9909SMO

Graveward – Track Listing:

1. Kaedit Nos Pestis
2. Graveward
3. The Tombfiller
4. The Forlorn
5. The Molesters Of My Soul
6. Out Of the Grave
7. The Trial By The Dead
8. The Casketburner
9. A Messenger From Tomorrow
10. Dwellers In Dream

For over two decades, SIGH has been transcending the confines of extreme metal. Forged in 1989 in Tokyo, Japan, the band was initially signed by Euronymous’ infamous Deathlike Silence Records on which they released their debut full-length, Scorn Defeat, in 1993. SIGH would go on to release records via various imprints including Cacophonous, Century Media, Baphomet and The End before making Candlelight Records their label home with the release of 2012’s crushing, critically-adored In Somniphobia and this year’s Graveward.

Preorder Graveward via Candlelight Records at THIS LOCATION.

SIGH:

Mirai Kawashima – vocals, keyboards, orchestrations etc.

Dr. Mikannibal – alto, tenor, baritone saxophones, vocals

Satoshi Fujinami – bass, drums

HELLEBORUS “COILS” – A Metal Odyssey Song Review

HELLEBORUS – Two musical brothers are Helleborus and they are from L to R in the top photo: Wyatt Houseman (vocals, lyrics) and Jerred Houseman (producer, all instruments). Helleborus are a Black Metal band from Manitou Springs, Colorado and named after a poisonous flower that blooms in Winter. (The Helleborus flower is native to most of Europe and also grows along the north coast of Turkey).

The new song from Helleborus, Coils, was released on March 26th, 2015 and their debut album, The Carnal Sabbath, is forthcoming. I will forever embrace quality underground Metal, especially underground Black Metal. Helleborus have without question, tapped into my Black Metal psyche with their new song. I honestly cannot stop listening to Coils. Yes, being a devoted fan to Satyricon, I do hear an influence of said band within the textures of Coils. This is strong, melodic Black Metal at its very finest, my Metal brethren.

At 5:06 long, Coils is wonderfully dark escape for my Metal mind. Wyatt Houseman is excellent and convincingly real on vocals. Wyatt’s vocals go straight through me and that’s a plus. Jarred Houseman I applaud highly for being such an exciting multi-instrumentalist. I especially love Jarred’s guitar prowess. I’m always stunned when Coils comes to an end, for this song is so damn good it feels like it plays out for only a minute. I absolutely cannot wait to absorb the upcoming debut album from Helleborus. Black Metal anticipation is a glorious thing. Metal be thy name. – Stone

IRON MAIDEN – 19 Albums From Band’s Catalogue Have Been Mastered For iTunes

Posted in classic rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 11, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Iron Maiden - Mastered For iTunes - promo banner pic - april 7 - 2015 - #IMMO77603

As reported on the IRON MAIDEN Facebook:

Parlophone Records (BMG/INgrooves Music Group for the USA) are delighted to announce the release of nineteen IRON MAIDEN catalogue albums which have been Mastered For iTunes (iTunes.com/IronMaiden), encoded from 24-bit / 96 khz high-resolution masters and now re-mastered with iTunes in mind, delivering the music to listeners exactly the way the artist and recording engineer intended. These are brand new re-masters from their original analogue sources, exclusively produced for iTunes.

All fifteen studio albums, 2 Best Of compilations and 2 live albums were personally selected by Maiden’s founder member Steve Harris for this superior mastering technique : Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, No Prayer For The Dying, Fear Of The Dark, The X Factor, Virtual XI, Brave New World, Dance Of Death, A Matter Of Life And Death, The Final Frontier, Somewhere Back In Time, From Fear To Eternity (2CD), Live after Death (2CD) and Rock In Rio( 2CD)

Iron Maiden - Eddie Collage - 777MOBD

Steve comments:

“The Mastering For iTunes procedure allows the listener to experience the music as close as possible to the way the artist intended it to be heard. So of course I was very keen for the Maiden albums to be mastered in this way. The records have been available digitally before, when this medium first became a platform for music distribution but that was mastered with CDs in mind. The iTunes process involves a different approach and it’s great to finally deliver the music to our fans in as close to a pure and accurate sound as we could possibly achieve. For example, as most people know, I was never really happy with the sound on the first Maiden album but listening to it now, the guitars are louder, the drums more substantial and the overall tone is so very much improved in my opinion. Tony Newton and Ade Emsley who worked closely with me on the project did a terrific job recapturing everything from the original masters and together we’ve re- mastered them all digitally and I’m really happy with the results.”

Iron Maiden - Eddie Collage - 777MOBD

Tony Newton adds:

“The process started with locating all of the original album mix tapes (or whichever format they were mixed to). Then the choice of analogue to digital converter was chosen for the most accurate capture to make it as close as possible to the sound of the mix as it was intended by the band. When a lot of these tapes were last captured it was in the 1980’s, early days of digital and only 44.1khz/16bit files were possible. On top of this the new A/D converters are far superior now, and of course it is possible to produce files of far higher resolution. The result of this is that the songs now sound more defined with added depth and warmth. I was very excited to be asked to be part of this project, I honestly feel that there is a massive improvement in the quality of these classic albums.”

WAR IRON “Precession Of The Equinoxes” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

WAR IRON - Precession Of The Equinoxes - promo album cover pic - 2015

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

4.5 metal-fists-4-5-album-reviews-metal-odyssey

WAR IRON returns with another Sludge and Doom Metal offering: Precession Of The Equinoxes. Their style can even fall into a drone-like beat and it still crunches and rumbles along with a dynamite evil attitude, feel and sound. Due to the epic length of all 4 songs, this is an album I had to listen to many times, before even considering how much I like it or what to say about it. The total running time for this rugged album is: 35:62.

To me, the vocals from Baggy can very easily be interpreted as Black Metal. I can honestly say that Baggy comes across with a striking conviction towards the lyrical content of each song. Baggy also has demonic vocals, without question. I absolutely love the riffs and every guitar part played from Ross. 100% Doom and Gloom floods my ears from this album and when the dark chants kick in on Summon Demon Scream The Abyss, the eeriness all becomes so much more punctuated.

While I have listened to this War Iron album, I’ve repeatedly have had visions of being lost inside an endless, dark and cold cave, with stalagmites and stalactites filling the creepy atmosphere around me; thus I am overcome with some sort of nightmarish joy. In other words, this is Metal that honestly carries me away mentally to another world. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Track Listing: Bludgeon Lord, Summon Demon Scream The Abyss, Precession Of The Equinoxes, From Napalm Altar

WAR IRON:

Baggy – vocals

Ross – guitar

Dave – bass

Marty – drums

SACRAL RAGE – Streaming ‘Illusions In Infinite Void’ In Its Entirety

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on April 7, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sacral Rage - Illusions In Infinite Void - promo album cover pic - 2015

Illusions in Infinite Void, the full-length debut from Greek Heavy Metal Force SACRAL RAGE is out now on Cruz Del Sur Music. The album is streaming in its entirety at this location or below:

Illusions in Infinite Void can be ordered here.

Illusions in Infinite Void is a monumental piece of Metal from start to finish. Indeed it’s an ever-changing Metal vortex with countless rhythmic-changes and  no weak moments, a tense state of aggression in which singer Dimitri’s excellent performance and the textured guitar lines stand out.

The band plays U.S. style Metal with some European influences. Acts such as JAG PANZER, ANNIHILATOR, MERCYFUL FATE, JUDAS PRIEST, WATCHTOWER, and RUSH are major influences. Lyrics about horror, supernatural, dark fantasy, soul-searching, forbidden religions, perfectly match the band’s  dark, aggressive, technical and paranoid music.

On Illusions in Infinite Void, the band proves to be more than just a mere replica of the most influential bands of  the Golden Age of (especially) U.S .Metal. Hand in hand with a granitic rhythmic session, their songs turn, change and evolve endlessly into a wide variety of riffs, screams and roars!  SACRAL RAGE have undoubtedly written one of the most inspired releases of 2015.

Track Listing:

1. Harbinger
2. En Cima Del Mal
3. Lost Chapter E.: Sutratma
4. Panic in Urals (Burning Skies)
5. Waltz in Madness
6. Into Mental East
7. Inner Sanctum Asylum
8. A Tyrannous Revolt
9. Lost Chapter E.: Amarna’s Reign

Critical Praise:

“Astonishing riff-centric brilliance.” – Stereogum.com

“If you write killer metal, it will be entertaining by its very nature. Sacral Rage achieves this with every vocal wail, jittery thrash riff, and intense forward drive.” – Last Rites

“High-Pitched Terrorism! I’m pretty sure that if this album had been released back in 1987, today we would all wait desperately for an anniversary tour.” – Metal Hammer (GR), 9/10

“A good dose of speed and progressive metal! Fine album!” – Queens Of Steel

INCANTATION – Iconic Death Metal Legion Continues To Brutalize The Masses On The Ongoing Dirges Of Elysium Tour

Incantation - Classic Band Logo - #04082015IMO736

Additional Live Dates To Be Announced

Iconic Death Metal legion, INCANTATION, will continue to raze stages throughout North America in support of their Dirges Of Elysium full-length. The latest bout of live assaults will begin on April 17th in Hempstead, New York at El Relax Lounge. The following day, INCANTATION will head to Worcester, Massachusetts to play this year’s edition of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival at the Palladium. From there, the band will bring their audio malevolence to stages in Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Syracuse and Buffalo. The onstage abrasions continue the following month when INCANTATION ravages their way through seven more cities before bringing their brutality to the Maryland Death Fest Pre-Party on May 20th in Baltimore.

In June, INCANTATION will summon the dead at the Farmageddon Festival FOA in Vancouver and in August the band will take part in the Wolves Of Apocalypse Festival in Denver. The band’s latest bout of onstage obliteration follows their recent West Coast takeover and first ever performance in Hawaii this Winter with additional 2015 live devourement in the conspiring stages.

Incantation - Dirges Of Elysium - promo cover pic

INCANTATION released Dirges Of Elysium last year via Listenable Records. Crowned, “one of the most influential death metal bands of all time,” by Metal Injection, who further elaborated of the record, “With all the evil-sounding riffs, squealing pinch-harmonics and crushing dirges scattered throughout, this is the sound that made INCANTATION legends. This is some profoundly dark and creepy stuff,” the record continues to raise the brows of death metallers old and new. Sputnik Music dubbed Dirges Of Elysium, “a breath of fresh air for INCANTATION, and another fine addition to their discography, ” Metal Forces gushed, “It’s all ungodly but all so bloody brilliant, and with ‘Charnel Grounds’ smoldering from the stench of char-coaled flesh and the blustering bluster of ‘Dominant Ethos’ dragging us into the mud-clogged shredder that is ‘Elysium (Eternity Is Nigh),’ I hold up my severed stumps in surrender for another harangue of hate from one of death metal’s most criminally underrated bands,” while Exclaim added, “INCANTATION preserve their archetypal ominous atmosphere, while the production gives the band a more modern edge, making Dirges Of Elysium a consistent yet fresh release from the influential band.”

Comments the band in a collective statement: “The response to the Dirges Of Elysium album and tour has just been amazing! We still have a lot of touring left to go for this release. We are looking forward to seeing all you deathbangers on the road!”

FOREVER STILL – RELEASE NEW SINGLE “AWAKE THE FIRE” AND LET FANS PAY WHAT THEY WANT FOR IT

Posted in Hard Rock, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on April 6, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Maja Schønning - Forever Still - Awake The Fire - promo banner - April 2 - 2015

Independent female fronted Rock band Forever Still have released a new single called “Awake the Fire”. The single is the first single from their upcoming EP “Save Me”. The “Save Me” EP is the part two of three digital EPs that will eventually end up as one physical full length album later in 2015. The single can be downloaded directly from the band’s website: www.foreverstill.dk where the band lets their fans pay what they want for it.

“We believe that music should be available to everyone – both those who are broke, and those who have a little extra to spare in support of the artists they love” Maja Schønning explains. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into this song, so if people want to give us some help for the time and effort, we are very grateful! But if they don’t have any money right now, they can take it, share it and if they love it, come back and kick in later.

The EP is recorded, mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by band member Mikkel Haastrup in the band’s own studio. Mikkel is a trained sound engineer by Flemming ‘Metallica’ Rasmussen. “We like our music and everything surrounding it to be 100% honest and we felt the only way we could achieve that was by doing everything ourselves” says Mikkel.

The upcoming EP is Part 2 of the band’s debut album which is a concept album about a  suppressed individual struggling through depression, anxiety, and worthlessness and getting stronger in the process. “The songs are all very raw, emotional and somewhat imperfect, because we wanted it to sound like someone falling apart and trying to put the pieces back together” says Maja.

Forever Still - The Open Wound Tour - April - May - 2015 - promo banner - band pic

The first EP in the series “Scars” has been welcomed with open arms by both fans and media:

“Scars is one of the most exciting new releases in the last 12 months and if there is justice in the music world, 2015 has to be the year of Forever Still. 5/5” – PlanetMosh

“The power in the vocals, the musicianship of every member and even the production is perfection(…)Scars’ is three tracks every rock fan should have. 5/5” – Genius Babble

“Frontwoman Maja Schønning is the driving force behind the band, bringing powerful vocals in abundance. If we were to place our faith in one female to successfully lead a band to the top of the metal scene, Maja would be it. 4/5” – HD Music Promotions
