Italian black metal unit STORMCROW will release their third album, “Path to Ascension”, sometime in 2024 via Time To Kill Records.
The band shares a new single from the new album. Stream “Dark Existence” at THIS LOCATION.
The video of the previous single “Vulgus Vult Decipi” is also available HERE.
The band started out in northen Italy in 1997 and is no secret to genre connoisseurs thanks to a couple of well-received albums and European tours with Dark Funeral, Enthroned, Shining and many more. But now their big moment in the spotlight has come – STORMCROW are ready for the final breakthrough with the new album “Path to Ascension”.
STORMCROW have kept the black flame burning for 20+ years simply out of adoration and their respect for the genre. Undoubtedly they share some of the same DNA of iconic black metal bands that have gone before them, and whilst their technical abilities add a more than impressive flourish, they operate on a ‘don’t overcomplicate for the sake of overcomplicating’ rule. Keeping theatrics to a minimum has yielded a lean, sharp album that embodies the blueprint of old school black metal and embraces both melody and an epic narrative.
Watch for more details on the new album release, new tour updates, and more news on other upcoming STORMCROW activities to be posted shortly.
Hauntologist, a new project established by black metal stalwarts The Fall and Darkside, will release its debut album on 2 February via No Solace on CD and digital formats. To get a taste of the upcoming album, the band has released the first single “Ozymandian”.
Although the material is only about to be released now, the roots of the project go back many years and due to the band members’ busy schedules, they were waiting for the right time to unleash their creativity. The Fall – known for his work with Owls Woods Graves, Over the Voids… and as a live bassist for Mgła – and Darkside – known as the Mgła and Kriegsmaschine drummer – decided to venture further than the typical and conventional boundaries of black metal in their musical exploration.
Over the years, the band has undergone numerous clinical deaths and reanimations but eventually recorded their debut “Hollow” in 2023. Deeply rooted in negative metal music, it leans toward other genres and forms of expression to seek musical analogies of sleepless nights and surreal, anxiety-provoking hallucinations.
“Hollow” could be described as a field recording of a feverish nightmare. Despite its metal foundations, the music on “Hollow” constantly turns into side streets of other, often difficult to term and locate, music genres. It is an album built on the foundation of rubble and debris of visions that developed and died back throughout the years. The documentation of spirit decay and life slipping through the fingers.

Baltimore, Maryland black metal quintet NIXIL has shared a guitar playthrough for “Collapsing The Poles,” taken from the band’s second full-length, From The Wound Spilled Forth Fire, recently released via Prosthetic Records. The playthrough comes in conjunction with NIXIL’s US tour set to begin tonight, September 29th, in Youngstown, Ohio and run through October 6th in New York City.
Speaking on the guitar playthrough, Shane Gardner comments, “My number one ‘BuZzy’ is a partscaster — a fender body and neck — that I purchased for $200 and added a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail Humbucker and a killswitch, no toggle. For the playthrough I overdubbed my track using an SM57 through a Marshall CODE 50 Practice amp into Adobe Audition.
“I use the inverted triad on a lot of our songs. ‘Collapsing…’ has them throughout the verse sections. I think they add texture to a simple chord structure, and it adds a hypnotic effect with the addition of Alden’s guitar note bend. It’s all in the hands I guess.”
Of their upcoming tour, the band adds, “We leave this Friday, September 29th, for eight dates in the Northeastern US to celebrate the release of From The Wound Spilled Forth Fire. This album — like all of our music — is best experienced live and loud; bring your rage, your aching heart, your unquenchable thirst for catharsis, and join us.”

After solidifying their lineup in its current form, with the arrival of guitarist/backing vocalist Alden, NIXIL opted to record From The Wound Spilled Forth Fire live at Magpie Cage Recording Studio with J. Robbins. The resulting six songs seethe with a frenzied despair, whilst more ominous passages breathe with a disquieting existential terror in every percussive and rhythmically meditative trance, exactly as the band intended to capture before handing mastering duties to James Plotkin.
Scheduled for a 22 September 2023 release, “Zephyrean Hymns” breathes new life into the black metal scene and promises to place the band among the greats of the Greek black metal scene.
“A quest through space and time, an ascension to something greater… Zephyrean Hymns lead our cause,” this is how the band describes the new album.
“Zephyrean Hymns” consists of eight songs that create a unique atmosphere. Sometimes the listener is assaulted by raging riffs and eerie screams and at other times engrossed in seductive vocals travelling with dreamy melodies.
Hailing from Trikala, Greece, Melan Selas formed in 2015 and have so far released two EPs and one full-length album, “Φάος”. The band consists of D.K. (Riffobia, Katavasia) who handles all instruments and Astraea (Oletir) on vocals and lyrics.
Melan Selas‘ music genre can be defined as black metal with epic and atmospheric elements, as well as some black/thrash metal sections. The lyrical themes of the project vary between nature, ancient times and philosophy. In 2016 they released their debut work, a self-titled EP. “ῬΕΟΝ” followed in 2018, released in vinyl format and in 2019 they released their full-length album “ΦΑΟΣ”. Currently, Melan Selas are on the way for the release of their new album “Zephyrean Hymns”, which is to be out in September 2023 via The Circle Music.
“Zephyrean Hymns” is available to pre-order via The Circle Music.
Features brand new interviews with Necromantia, Arcturus, Immortal, Agalloch, Destruction, Mystifier, and Winterfylleth plus extended interviews with Rotting Christ, Behemoth, Sigh, Mayhem and many more
The Restored, Expanded & Definitive Edition” to consist of 130,000 words of new content, 25 new chapters with over 70 new interviews and improved cover art and design
The book release marks 10 years of Cult Never Dies
UK-based publishing house Cult Never Dies will mark its 10th anniversary this November with the release of Dayal Patterson’s “Black Metal:Evolution of the Cult – The Restored, Expanded &Definitive Edition”. Pre-orders are available now via Cult Never Dies (UK & ROW store / EU store). North American orders can be placed via Decibel Books.
With the original version of the book no longer available in print, Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult is hailed as the most acclaimed book on the history of black metal, and the only one endorsed by those involved in creating the genre.
The book will be approximately 340,000 words long, including 130,000 words of new content, 25 new chapters and 48 extended and updated chapters. This will include over 150 exclusive interviews with some of the biggest names in the genre, including: Venom, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Blasphemy, Darkthrone, Behemoth, Rotting Christ, Mayhem and many more. The author also included over 70 brand new or previously unpublished interviews with the likes of Necromantia, Arcturus, Immortal, Agalloch, Destruction, Mystifier, and Winterfylleth.
Evolution of the Cult will also have hugely improved cover art and layout by longtime Cult Never Dies artist David Thiérrée (Behemoth, Gorgoroth, Mortiis), and will include almost 600 photos, many previously unseen, including an 80-page colour/gloss section.
Silenoz of Dimmu Borgir commended the book: “You don’t have to read between the lines anymore ‘cause it’s all there, straight from the source,” while Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ called it “a valuable educational piece of dark writing.”
Vorph of Samael added: “This is a very insightful work: Without doubt the ultimate book on the subject, a testimony of black metal and a good introduction for neophytes.”
Hvall of Windir and Vreid said: “A brilliantly written book – mandatory if you have any interest in the genre, or want to explore a new world.”
Dayal Patterson, book author, Cult Never Dies owner and longtime music journalist, said: “I cannot express how good it feels now that Cult Never Dies finally owns the rights to this book and are able to release it – along with Decibel in the US – in this massively improved form. The limitations placed on the original in terms of word count meant that so many chapters and parts I originally envisioned simply couldn’t be included or were not even worth completing due to a lack of space. What turned into a fairly straightforward restoration job led to about a year of 14-hour days, not only overhauling the existing chapters and layout (something we had always been unhappy with) of the book, but doing a huge number of new interviews and working with a wealth of new bands and artists. Finally, there are proper chapters celebrating bands such as Vinterland, Satyricon, Immortal, Arcturus, Mystifier and Profanatica, as well as greater explorations of black metal in Brazil, the US, the UK, Sweden, Greece, and, of course, Norway.”
For a full list of the 150 interviewees, visit Cult Never Dies.
Black metal outfit MORBIKON, the creative effort of guitarist/bassist Phil “Land Phil” Hall (Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, Iron Reagan), with drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Discordance Axis), and vocalist Mathias “Vreth”Lillmåns (Finntroll, …And Oceans), has announced their first ever live appearances!
MORBIKON released their debut full-length, OvMournful Twilight, last year via Tankcrimes. The project is guided by the second wave of Scandinavia’s black metal and melodic death metal scenes of the ‘90s.
Issues Hall, “MORBIKON was started as a passion project between myself and my writing partner Quotidius in 2020 to express our love of early ‘90s black metal while simultaneously blowing off some steam trapped in a quarantine. Getting Dave Witte involved pushed the music to a new level, then an awesome opportunity came to work with the outstanding vocalist Mathias Lillmåns from the Finnish band Finntroll. We completed the album Ov Mournful Twilightin the middle of the pandemic not considering any live show prospects. Now, three years after the inception of the band, we finally have the opportunity to play the music live. Unfortunately, the logistics of bringing Mathias Lillmåns all the way from Finland has proved to be infeasible. Stepping into the role of vocalist will be original lyricist Quotidius. We are also welcoming guitarists Toby Swope (Psychosomatic) and Adam Guilliams (Cannabis Corpse). Drums will be handled by Dave Witte. We are looking forward to playing live and bringing these awesome tunes to everyone soon!”

Cosmic black metal duo LIGHTLORN has unleashed “Dimensionless Blackness,” the newest single from their upcoming full-length debut: At One with the Night Sky.
The third track on the album, “Dimensionless Blackness” is full of contrasting elements. From the bright guitar picking in the intro, which belies the energetic, groove-infested opening riff that follows, to the ups and downs in the song structure, “Dimensionless Blackness” is highly representative of the sound LIGHTLORN has become known for. The lead guitar carries captivating melodies, while a foreboding piano section and an outro replete with strings and brass infuse the song with atmosphere and emotion. The lyrics are sung from the perspective of a supermassive black hole in the center of a galaxy. How it holds the galaxy together while slowly devouring the matter around it.
Atmospheric post-black metal band EAVE presents their third full-length album, Fervor. Complex and powerful, Fervor offers seven new songs that show a more aggressive march across the bleak, depressive soundscape the band created on 2020’s Phantoms Made Permanent.
Tracklist: 1) Past Pulses 2) Chance is a Spectre 3) Mirroring 4) Stale Ash 5) Bending the Light 6) Shards 7) Into Perdition
A lot has happened since the release of EAVE’s Phantoms Made Permanent via Bindrune Recordings. The world has seemingly flipped upside down and in the case of this forward-thinking quartet, change isn’t always a bad thing.
After a band migration back to their home state of Connecticut and a period of tireless effort, EAVE emerges with a formidable selection of songs that see the band demonstrating a fiery new approach to their unique brand of atmospheric metal. Bristling with energy and venom amidst passages of ethereal and shadowed melodies, the duly titled Fervor exhibits an air of urgency, disillusionment, and resiliency. Heavily incorporating elements from a myriad of musical genres and applying a broad tone of experimentalism to their soaring style of New England black metal, Fervor marks a new period of focus for the band, as they press upon new territory that feels wholly their own.
Recorded by the band in Connecticut, and re-amped, mixed, and mastered by Colin Marston in Queens, New York, Fervor sheds stunning light on the beauty and darkness that forever exists in mankind and its relationship to the natural world.
EAVE is: Brian Tenison – Bass, Vocals Caleb Porter – Drums Ian Stoller – Guitars Gabriel Shara – Guitars, Vocals

Summoner’sCircle, hailing from Dandridge, TN, is a six-piece theatrical metal band that blends elements of doom, death, black and progressive metal into what they refer to as simply Epic Metal.

This is the most ambitious and accomplished album by the Spanish black metal band Frozen Dawn who haven’t quite received the attention that they deserved in the past. Intense and sharp, their scintillating music is tempered by heart-rending melodies and leads, and it’s all beautifully strung together. You can listen to one of their heart-racing songs HERE and a longer one with a gorgeous finale HERE.
For a decade and a half, Frozen Dawn have been perfecting their sound which can be described as stirring, intense and scathing black metal tempered with melody and soaring leads. The members have used their experience in notable bands to create something that not only pays earnest tribute to the classic bands such as Dissection, Necrophobic, Sacramentum and Naglfar but also sounds contemporary in terms of structure and execution. They’ve bolstered the sound with death metal influences and even added slight thrash touches, ensuring that the music remains powerful, incisive and compelling.
The momentum remains unabated as the band pummels its way through nine elaborate tracks and a fitting cover of Necrophobic. Many bands have attempted to recreate this sound with varying degrees of success but clearly Frozen Dawn have excelled at it which is mainly due to their knack for meticulous songwriting that straddles heaviness with emotion, allowing them to enhance the expression and maintain the much-needed diversity for the style. This album is easily Frozen Dawn‘s best one yet and is head and shoulders above the rest of them where this kind of music goes in recent memory.

Extreme Metal Music is proud to announce the release of the one-man black metal band, Croatia’s Tryglav‘s second album “The Ritual” this coming February 2023 to follow the 2019 debut “Night of Whispering Souls” also released on the label.
All the music on “The Ritual” were written by founder Boris Behara with vocals entrusted to vocalist Callum Wright along with mixing and mastering by producer Rocco Pezzin. The songs on the sophomore record began their journey in 2018 as part of Behara’s love for black metal and horror imagery. After many re-compositions and re-arrangements along with interruptions from the world pandemic and his personal health with two open heart surgeries. , “The Ritual” will now see the light once again via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Italian label Rockshots Records.
“After three years, a world pandemic, and two open heart surgeries, I’m proud that the album I worked hard on is finally seeing the light! This time I wanted something more than just individual horror stories, that’s why I worked so hard to put out an original concept story based on Plague Doctors, which are the trademark of this band since the beginning. This album has seen so many difficulties, but finally, after three long years, it’s here! I hope fans will enjoy it as much I did create it!”
Tryglav‘s sound is aggressive, melodic, modern, and emotionally epic black metal, and fans of its predecessor will notice a maturity in sound and lyrics. The story behind the album is set in the 17th century as Tryglav explains further:
“On a dark stormy night, a dying man sighed his last breath. Nothing his parents could do to save his life. A Plague Doctor was called. Four of them showed up, taking the dead body with them. The family knew that they would never see him again. What they didn’t know was that he would come back, in an unimaginable way..”
Tryglav is recommended for fans of Dark Funeral, Dissection, and Uada.

Today, Italianblack-thrash metal trailblazers NECRODEATH share the new single “Oomny Ones”. Watch the video HERE.
The clip was produced by Time To Kill Records/Morbid Vision Italyand directed by the band’s frontman Flegias with the assistance of Merlin Music Management, BlåKläDer, Midnight Club.
The song is inspired by Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” – the scene in which Alex, the protagonist, is seen regaining his leadership among his “droogs”. In the video, the director (and singer of the band) elaborates this concept through the rivalry between two motorcycle gangs who meet to discuss the ownership of a territory. Those who are able to showcase a little (un)healthy ultra-violence will prevail. The video also shows the whole band drinking milk plus inside a replica of the famous Korova Milk Bar.
The band’s new record “Singin’ in the Pain” will be released via Time To Kill Records on November 28th 2022.
“Singin ‘in the Pain” is a concept based on the movie “A Clockwork Orange” by Stanley Kubrick, where the band takes us on a one-way black-thrash journey, soaked in immorality and violence, and back to a vain attempt at redemption and normality.
The album is conceived in 9 tracks linked together by the narrating voice of Tony Dolan of VENOM INC. and supported in the finale by the presence of Eric Forrest of E-FORCE (ex-VOIVOD).

The moment you hear it, you know it’s NECRODEATH. Formed back in 1984, the Italian act is one of the real iconic black-thrash metal bands. With an ongoing career of almost 40 years, the band has helped to shape the Italian metal scene and the international underground as it is today. NECRODEATH released a cult-demo tape titled “The Shining Pentagram” and obtained an incredible success in the underground.
The demo is still considered a real gem in the thrash and black metal history. Tons of tributes in major magazines, fanzines and other underground outlets highlighted the release of the first two legendary albums “Into The Macabre” (1987) and “Fragments Of Insanity” (1989).
