On This Day In METAL History – 4th Of July! Independence Day Edition!

On July 4th, 1776 – In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims the independence of the United States of America from Great Britain and its king. Read more about it, here: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history

On July 4th, 1982 – Ozzy Osbourne married his manager Sharon Arden, in Maui, Hawaii. Jeepers! Shown above: December 2013 cover feature for Hello! magazine.

On July 4th, 1987 – A concert featuring Rock icons Santana, the Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt was held in Moscow, Russia. The late and legendary concert promoter Bill Graham convinced the Soviet government to have this concert held. The Soviet leader at this time was the much more liberal Mikhail Gorbachev. Holy moly!

On July 4th, 2015 – Independence Day is ranked at #11 on the Top 50 iTunes Movies Chart. The stars are: Will Smith, Bill Pullman as the POTUS, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch and Randy Quaid, among others. This movie kicks ultimate Metal ass!! ‘Nuff said.

On July 4th, 2015 – Black Sabbath – Greatest Hits 1970 – 1978 is ranked at #25, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa!

On July 3rd, 1982 – The great Van Halen had their hit cover single Dancing In The Street ranked at #38, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Boo-yah!! This hit is featured on Van Halen’s fifth studio album from 1982: Diver Down. By the way, I absolutely love that Diver Down album. Whoa.

On July 3rd, 1984 – The legendary SCORPIONS performed at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. This tour had the SCORPIONS promoting their ninth studio album: Love At First Sting. Man alive!

On July 3rd, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Fallen, from the sensational Stryper is ranked at #86, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Fallen will be released on October 16th, 2015. Yeah, man!

On July 3rd, 2015 – The newly released studio album, Skills In Pills, from Lindemann has debuted at #144, on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Jeepers creepers!

On July 2nd, 1980 – The outstanding Led Zeppelin performed in Germany at Eissporthalle. Led Zeppelin was touring in support of their eighth studio album: In Through The Out Door.

On July 2nd, 1981 – Foreigner released their fourth album, aptly titled: 4. This album went on to become Foreigner’s first and only album to reach number one on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, while eventually selling six million (plus) copies in the United States. Good golly!!

On July 2nd, 2012 – On their Maiden England Tour, the incredible IRON MAIDEN performed at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, USA. Hallowed Be Thy Name!

On July 2nd, 2015 – The newly released studio album, Illusions Of Dominance, from San Antonio’s BITTER END is ranked at #21, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa, man!

On July 2nd, 2015 – The newly released studio album, Order Shall Prevail, from Wisconsin’s JUNGLE ROT is ranked at #40, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Great Caesar’s ghost!

On This Day In METAL History – June 30th… From ANDY SCOTT of SWEET To CINDERELLA

On June 30th, 1977 – KISS released their sixth studio album, via Casablanca Records: Love Gun. Yes, this is the KISS album that features the song, sung by Gene Simmons: Plaster Caster. You are a collector of sun-dried earthworms, if you don’t own this KISS album.

On June 30th, 1977 – Marvel Comics published the first KISS comic book. Blood aka plasma was drawn from each KISS member and added into the red ink for printing the comic. I’d have to say, without any question, that this moment in KISStory is… Metal.

On June 30th, 1990 – L.A. Guns hits #33 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with The Ballad of Jayne. Holy smokes! This song is featured on the second studio album from L.A. Guns, released back in 1989: Cocked & Loaded.

On June 30th, 2000 – Poison, Cinderella, Dokken and Slaughter all performed on the same night in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, at the Blossom Music Center. Now, that’s a Rockin’ lineup! Whoa and whoa again!

On June 30th, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Immortalized (Deluxe Version), from the mighty DISTURBED is ranked at #5, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Rock Albums Chart. Immortalized will be DISTURBED’s sixth studio album, releasing on August 21st, 2015.

On June 30th, 1949, Andy Scott was born in Wrexham, North Wales. Happy Birthday, Andy Scott! Yeah, man! Andy Scott is world-known as a guitarist, vocalist, co-songwriter and lifelong (classic) member for (The) SWEET. Make no mistake, Andy Scott and SWEET are true pioneers of Glam Metal and Hard Rock. SWEET have sold tens of thousands of records over the decades, along with a host of #1 singles to their credit.

On June 29th, 2015 – Originating from The Lehigh Valley, in the grand state of Pennsylvania is Next To None. This fine band released today, their new studio album: A Light In The Dark. By the way, this album is also ranked at #13 on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Hell and yeah, man!

On June 29th, 2015 – Italy’s Cinematic Metal band, Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, releases a new studio album: Prometheus – Symphonia Ignis Divinus. The above album cover art was created by: Stefan Heilemann. This album is also ranked at #16, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Very cool stuff, indeed.

IAN PAICE

Ian Paice was born on June 29th, 1948, in England. Happy Birthday, Ian Paice! Yeah, man! Ian Paice is known across all galaxies as being the life-long drummer for the super legendary Deep Purple. Ian Paice is also a former drummer for the fabulous Whitesnake. Metal Be Thy Name!

On June 27th, 1987 – The fabulous Mötley Crüe peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart with Girls, Girls, Girls which went on to sell four million (plus) copies in the United States. Outstanding!

On June 27th, 1994 – The super-duper Aerosmith became the huge name band to release a song on the internet as a free download. Head First was the song that was available on CompuServe for one week; unfortunately fans had to endure an hour’s worth (or much more) of download time to hear the song. Those were the days. Head First was an unused song from Aerosmith’s Get A Grip sessions.

On June 27th, 2006 – The KISS Coffeehouse opened for business, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. For this happy grand opening, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley made their appearance. Unfortunately, the KISS Coffeehouse closed in late September of 2013, due to a lack of growth in sales. A clearance sale of all KISS novelty items took place during the closing days of this establishment as well. Goodness gracious.

On June 27th, 2015 – Former Megadeth members, guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover, have recently formed their own Thrash/Speed Metal band: Act Of Defiance. Their forthcoming debut studio album, Birth And The Burial, is ranked at #86, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Jiminy Cricket! This album is scheduled to release on August 21st, 2015.

On June 27th, 2015 – METALACHI, The world’s first and only Heavy Metal Mariachi Band, have their new studio album UNO ranked at #66, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. ¡Ay, caramba!

On June 26th, 1974 – Supergroup Bad Company released their self-titled debut album on Led Zeppelin‘s Swan Song Records. This terrific album went on to reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, while eventually selling five million copies (plus) in the United States. Man, oh man and hot damn!

On June 26th, 1976 – The amazing Aerosmith peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart with their fourth studio album: Rocks. This was Aerosmith’s first album to reach the top ten on the U.S. album chart. Rocks features the ass-kicking songs: Back In The Saddle and Last Child, among others. If you don’t own this album, then it is obvious you collect rabbit poop in mason jars.

On June 26th, 2015 – The legendary High On Fire have their newly released studio album, Luminiferous, debuting at #110, on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Hell, yes!!

On June 24th, 1989 – Philadelphia’s Cinderella had their hit single, Coming Home, ranked at #20, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This cool song is featured on Cinderella’s second studio album from 1988: Long Cold Winter. Whoa!

On June 24th, 2000 – The iconic KISS began a two-day auction of various stage props, instruments and costumes worn and used throughout their storied Rock ‘N Roll domination. Over $880,000 in KISStoric items were sold on this day, back in 2000.

KISS The Auction was held at the Paramount Theatre at Paramount Studios in Hollywood California, along with internet and phone bids. KISS The Auction was presented by Greg Manning Auctions and Butterfields. Whoa and whoa again!!

On June 24th, 2014 – The unbelievable IRON MAIDEN performed at INEA Stadion in Poznań, Poland. Holy moly! Long live IRON MAIDEN!

On June 24th, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Abysmal, from Detroit’s The Black Dahlia Murder, is ranked at #1, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This album will be out worldwide on September 18th, 2015. Jiminy Cricket and Hell Yeah!

On June 24th, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Genexus, from the legendary Fear Factory is ranked at #9, on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Genexus will be released worldwide on August 7th, 2015, via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Genexus will be the 9th studio album from Fear Factory. Hot damn!

The first film of this iconic franchise of sequels, Michael Keaton plays Batman and the great Jack Nicholson plays the twisted villain: The Joker. The lovely Kim Basinger and New Jersey born Robert Wuhl also star in this film. No matter what angle I scrutinize from… Batman… is Metal. The Joker is Metal too. Metal Be Thy Name!

On June 23rd, 1990 – Slaughter has their hit Hard Rock anthem, Up All Night, sitting at #27, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Whoa! This song is featured on Slaughter’s fantastic debut album from 1990: Stick It To Ya. Hell and yeah!

On June 23rd, 2012 – The remarkable IRON MAIDEN performed at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood is in the company of 75 wooded acres too. Hot damn!

THE WHO “Live At Shea Stadium 1982” – Blu-ray Releases On June 30th, 2015

The Who’s 1982 tour, which was all in North America, apart from two warm-up dates at the Birmingham NEC in England, was their last to feature Kenney Jones on drums and they wouldn’t tour again until 1989. The tour promoted their recent “It’s Hard” album, which had been released in June of 1982 and the set list included a number of tracks from that album, some of which the band would only play live on this tour.

This concert film features the show from the second of their two nights at New York’s Shea Stadium and was filmed on October 13th of 1982. Although a couple of tracks have appeared on compilations, this is the first official release of the full show and features restored footage and newly mixed sound.

The release date is June 30th, 2015.

On June 22nd, 1968 – The Jeff Beck Group, featuring Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ron Wood and Mickey Waller, makes its American performance debut at the Fillmore East in New York City. Above photo, L to R: Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck.

On June 22nd, 1996 – The mighty Metallica debuted at number #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart for the second time, with their sixth studio album: Load. This album spent four straight weeks on top of this chart and went on to sell five million (plus) copies in the United States. Holy head cheese! The classic Metallica band logo also changed for a more lame version, on this studio album too. That’s my Metal opinion.

On June 22nd, 2001 – The first film in it’s incredibly successful franchise, Fast & Furious was released to wide-screen theaters. This film stars: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune and Chad Lindberg. Fast & Furious was directed by Rob Cohen. Fast muscle cars are… Metal. Rest in peace, Paul Walker.

On June 22nd, 2015 – The new studio album from Australia’s The Amity Affliction is ranked at #22, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Tie your wallaby down! This album was released via Roadrunner Records.

On June 22nd, 2015 – The 2013 studio album from Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1, is ranked at #180, on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. This album peaked at #2 and has spent 71 weeks on this chart. Great Caesar’s ghost!

Yes, this album features the forever famous power ballad: Home Sweet Home.

On June 20th, 1969 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience received $125,000, the largest pay ever for that time period, for their headlining appearance at the Newport Pop Festival. This Rock historic event was held outside of Los Angeles, California. Man, oh, man!

On June 20th, 1987 – Boston made their first live appearance in eight years, headlining the Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. That event’s legendary bill also included Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Poison and Tesla. Holy mandarin oranges!

On June 20th, 1998 – Black Sabbath, Foo Fighters and Pantera headlined the first Ozzfest held in the United Kingdom, at the Milton Keynes Bowl in Milton Keynes. Far out, man!

On June 20th, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Repentless, from the mighty SLAYER is ranked at #1, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums chart. Repentless will be released on September 11th, 2015, via Nuclear Blast. Hail SSSSLLLAAAYYERRR!!

On June 19th, 1965 – The Rolling Stones had their first #1 single on the American charts, with (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. That piece of Rock history is whiz-bang! Long live The Rolling Stones!

On June 19th, 1982 – Rainbow hits #40 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their single: Stone Cold. This song is featured on Rainbow’s sixth studio album from 1982: Straight Between The Eyes.

On June 19th, 2015 – The new studio album, Luminiferous, from HIGH ON FIRE, is once again ranked at #1, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Long live HIGH ON FIRE!

On June 19th, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Underworld, from SYMPHONY X, is ranked at #27, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This highly anticipated album will be released on July 24th, 2015, via Nuclear Blast. Hell and freaking yeah!!

On This Day In METAL History – June 18th… From JIMI HENDRIX To TREMONTI

On June 18th, 1967 – The super legendary Jimi Hendrix with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, performs at the Monterey International Pop Festival. At the end of his performance, Jimi Hendrix set on fire his Fender Stratocaster; this would become one of the most iconic moments in Rock History. Whoa! A special thank you to Metal Buddy Jay, for the heads up on this one!

On June 18th, 1977 – Foreigner had their hit single, Feels Like The First Time, ranked at #4, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Holy macaroni! This hit single is featured on the debut and self-titled album from Foreigner, released in 1977.

On June 18th, 1988 – The great Van Halen had their hit single, Black And Blue, ranked at #34, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Yup. This hit single is featured on Van Halen’s eighth studio album from 1988: OU812.

On June 18th, 1988 – The fabulous Lita Ford had her hit single, Kiss Me Deadly, ranked at #12, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Hot damn! This hit single is featured on Lita Ford’s third and self-titled studio album from 1988.

On June 18th, 2015 – Cauterize, the second studio album from Mark Tremonti’s band, Tremonti, has debuted on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #40. Holy guacamole! Wolfgang Van Halen is the bassist on this album.

On June 18th, 2015 – Ozzy Osbourne’s Memoirs Of A Madman is ranked at #7, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This greatest hits collection was released back in the Fall of 2014. Long live Ozzy!!

That’s it at the top! That’s my Essential Michael Schenker Group CD! Is that really cool or what?

The Essential Michael Schenker Group was released back in 1992, via EMI Records Group / Chrysalis. I bought this CD as part of the same bundle of used CD’s that my DIO Anthology CD was in:

Whoa! Once again, the collector side of me cannot pass up a Michael Schenker greatest hits title, regardless of already owning the songs. Besides, when it comes to these used CD bundles, I always pay a really, really good price!

What I find interesting is that I’ve always LOVED the MSG ballad: Never Trust A Stranger. This song’s music and lyrics have always chilled me out in such a grand way, it’s amazing. I know what y’all are thinking: c’mon, Stone, Michael Schenker has TONS of better songs than that!

When I come across older CD’s or vinyl records (that I don’t have) of my Metal and Hard Rock heroes, while Metal hunting in public, I begin to sweat profusely and feel like I’m high. I cannot control it, it’s the way my body and brain are wired. TRUTH. Metal Be Thy Name!
