Le Havre rockers Akasava are proud to unveil their freshly recorded single ‘The Deep’, taken from upcoming début EP Strange Aeons. Packing the heavy punch of their forefathers, the track represents a band firing on all cylinders, and channeling their heroes into a precise burst. It’s now streaming over on Doomed & Stoned.
Doomed & Stoned describe the band as “Deliver[ing] a fuzzy, full-bodied psychedelic vibe, inspired by the darker side of the 60s and 70s”. The blend of 13th Floor Elevators and Coven with Sabbathian riffs is sure to delight enthusiasts of occult rock.

“Countless Skies resist the urge to hammer the listener with relentlessly technical showboating and instead the songs ebb and flow, winding their way through carefully constructed paths of brutality and beauty.”-Worship Metal
“Full of beautiful and sorrow-filled melodies and atmospheric keyboards”-Dead Rhetoric
Melodic Death metallers Countless Skies are due to hit the road soon on a stretch of dates that takes them around England, playing with a vast range of Metal bands. Coming off the back of November’s self-titled EP, the quartet are extremely excited to bring these incredible tracks to a wider audience. The first of these dates is Bloodstock’s Metal To The Masses, a competition where the winner gets a slot at the prestigious festival.
Bio
Initially starting as Hatespire, the band came to be in the summer of 2009 in a small flat in England. Long-time friends Ross King and James Pratt worked together to create a three-track demo, which blended progressive and intensely dark music influenced by their Scandinavian heroes. While complications caused the band to temporarily lose their momentum, they returned stronger after a four-year slumber under the new guise of Countless Skies. Taking their previous sound and blending it with new influences whilst keeping the same dark twist, their first EP is a bold step in the right direction, reclaiming England’s stake in the Melodic Death Metal field.

One-man Blackened Doom Metal assault, TOTAL NEGATION, will unleash third full-length, Zeitzeuge, this May via Sweden-based Temple Of Torturous Records.
The follow-up to the 2013-issued Zur Späten Stunde | Zeiträume, which The Liar Of Filth fittingly dubbed a, “dark and challenging, yet ultimately very rewarding listening,” Zeitzeuge maintains the cold, eerie elements of its predecessor. The integration of instruments like the melodica and the vibraphone still intact, on Zeitzeuge master craftsman, Wiedergaenger, allows for more breathing room and breadth in his compositions.
Still cold, depressive and atmospherically corrosive, Wiedergaenger manages to merge primal Black Metal, Doom and Krautrock elements into a sound that’s at once lush, confounding, and apocalyptic. Cold, dire, twisted, and bedecked in Wiedergaenger’s intense German storytelling, Zeitzeuge relays the story of a contemporary witness, who breaks under the pressure of controlling the life and death of others.
Zeitzeuge will be released digitally and on vinyl via Temple Of Torturous on June 16th, 2015, with track teasers and preorders to be unveiled soon. Until then, weep.
“…if you’re always on the lookout for the strangest, most obscure output black metal has to offer, there’s no way around TOTAL NEGATION.” – Cvlt Nation
Paradise Lost have revealed the cover artwork to their opus number fourteen “The Plague Within”, which comes out June 1st in Europe and June 2nd in North America.
The cover artwork was created by the polish artist, illustrator and architect Zbigniew M. Bielak.
B.C. based Thrash and Groove Metal band, MERIDIUS (named after Russell Crowe’s character in Gladiator) have unleashed their self titled debut EP out now, as of March 20th and available on Bandcamp.
“We are extremely proud of this EP, it is merely a taste of whats to come. It is a relentless mix of pit-stirring thrashers, crunchy grooves and epic melodies, sure to send thrashers and metal fans alike into a frenzy! We would like to also give a special thanks to Matt Roach who produced and mixed the EP, he`s extremely talented at what he does and were glad to be associated with him. Any bands based in Vancouver should contact him!” comments bassist Peter Riemann.
This raw, heavy thrash, melodic, groovy five piece are continuously writing material and staying true to the metal forefathers. With past members hailing from bands full of speed (Howler), progressive (Equestrian Lord), and power metal bands, Meridius’ metal embodies the intensity of aggression and pure mayhem both on stage and in studio.
Vocalist Eric Willmont constructs intense imagery through his lyrics covering dark topics (death, torture, war, and violence), all the while fitting in appropriate dash of macabre humour. Through a collaborative writing process, Meridius construct song after song with their sights set on a full length album and tour across Canada to follow their soon to be released debut EP.

Gehtika are sitting on a time bomb! After spending the past eight months writing a follow-up to 2013’s Impossible Question, the band are now and have been for the past week, holed up at Loud Noises Productions in JJM Studios, Walsall, recording a brand new album. This new record follows a concept the band has initially explored on recent single ‘Stack The Pyres’.
Listen to ‘Stack The Pyres’ Here!
The extreme metal outfit from England’s Midlands have also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring their latest artistic madness to fruition. Vocalist Anthony Knight comments, “We have worked tirelessly over the past seven to eight months writing, rehearsing and perfecting this absolute behemoth of an album; making sure every aspect of every song is as epic as can be.”
“We wanted to create something unique, something with tons of big riffs, sweeping solos, fierce vocals and enough blast beats to make your ears bleed! And so, from the deepest darkest reaches of our twisted little minds, our heaviest, most accomplished, release to date; A Monster in Mourning was born! A collection of dark, brooding and brutal compositions, which travel through a larger-than-life fantasy saga of betrayal, vengeance, redemption and countless revelations…”
“We’re extremely proud of what we have created; this album is an absolute BEAST, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you!”
The band’s Kickstarter campaign aims to help fund the actual release of the album and will also offer fans some limited edition merchandise and rewards, such as album pre-orders, handwritten framed lyric sheets, album art prints, shirts and other merchandise, VIP tickets to shows and much more. Check out the Kickstarter video which explains album plans and the campaign in more detail.
Gehtika have been kicking asses and assaulting the senses with their punishing brand of extreme metal and entertaining live performances for the past four years. After the release of their debut EP in 2013, the band went on to play the New Blood Stage at the UK’s Bloodstock Open Air Festival after winning their local Metal to the Masses competition. Impressed by their theatrical yet chaotic live show, Gehtika were asked back to Bloodstock Open Air Festival 2014 for the prestigious task of opening up the Sophie Lancaster Stage.
A Monster in the Mourning is due for release later this year.
‘I Hate’ the controversial rock and roll video by RABID ASSASSIN was released today March 18, 2015 as a worldwide premiere on BlankTV.com.
The song ‘I Hate’ is the first single released from the band’s debut ‘Eliminate The System’ due out May 19th on HighVolMusic.
As strong advocates of the United States Constitution, RABID ASSASSIN exercised the 1st amendment of “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” when creating ‘Eliminate the System’.
The project takes on the challenging issues that plague the world today with songs that are straight forward and hit on topics everybody can relate to but which most are scared to talk about. It runs the gamut of everything that is messed up in the world today.
Corpse Garden, the five-piece Death Metal outfit from Costa Rica are proud to announce that their second album, Entheogen, will be released this May 15th through both Russian Label Satanath Records and German Label RTM Productions.
The title Entheogen refers to a chemical substance that is often used in religious or spiritual practices to aim for transcendence. VocalistFelipe Tencio elaborates further:
“We think [Entheogen] is what really describes the music and the sound we accomplished with this album as well as it being an analogy for the transformation the band suffered, and the lyrical concept. The lyrics go through each one of the seven operations of alchemical transformation and Carl Jung’s studies on Individuation.”
Satanath Records OwnerAleksey had this to say on the label’s newest signing:
“I like this young and talented band. Their music is mysterious and meets all the canons of the style that I love. The album spews out energetic and technical death metal with a delicious bass in the spirit of old school death metal. Yet Corpse Garden do not fixate on the [old school vibe] and thereby retain their originality. Verdict: It is impossible not to release!”
The Entheogen artwork was designed by Alexander L. Brown [BNB Illustration and Design].
Formed in 2009, Corpse Garden released one EP before settling down to record their debut full-length release Burnt By The Light [2012]. Riding high from the great response from their debut, the band powered on to win the Central American heat in the worldwide Wacken Metal Battle competition and represented the area at the 2012 Wacken festival in Germany.
With a comprehensive line-up change in 2013 to what is their current set-up, Corpse Garden settled down to compose and write what would become Entheogen. Entering the Bushido Audio Production Studio in 2014 with producer Juan Pablo Calvo, the album was mastered by Eri Román at SoloHit Studios in San José.

The winds of spring bring the stench of Sulphur, as German Death Metal tyrants, SULPHUR AEON, prepare for the devastating unfurling of their leviathan sophomore LP, Gateway To The Antisphere, through a cooperative release between Imperium Productions and Ván Records.
SULPHUR AEON‘s critically acclaimed demo tape, Sulphur Psalms, was released in August 2010, followed by the Deep Deep Down They Sleep 7″, released in May of 2012. The band’s debut album, Swallowed By The Ocean’s Tide, was released in December 2012 through Imperium Productions. The album received worldwide praise by fans and the media alike as being one of the very few innovative and pioneering Death Metal albums of recent years with its deathly mélange of ferocious riffs, ultra-precise drums and sepulchral incantatory chants, combined with a high level of musical competence and songwriting to the most haunting and wicked Death Metal.
Now it’s time for the ancient ones to rise once more from the restless diluvial depths of timeless death, as SULPHUR AEON delivers the rapture of their second album, Gateway To The Antisphere. The album was produced by Simon Werner who was already responsible for the sound of the previous recordings of the band, and the result is a catastrophic and instantly memorable work of extreme metal art. Fifty-two minutes of debilitating yet enthralling, black-tinged, Lovecraftian death, suck the listener in like an inescapable vortex, as visually depicted in the mind-blowing cover artwork (with the emphasis on “art”) was created by Ola Larsson.
The sixth of the eleven harrowing passages on Gateway To The Antisphere has been released through an incredible artwork video. Witness the destruction of “Diluvial Ascension – Gateway To The Antisphere” now at THIS LOCATION or below:
Gateway To The Antisphere, will be released in cooperation between Imperium Productions and Ván Records on CD and as digital download on April 3rd, and vinyl in late April, the album a must-have piece for followers of Ulcerate, Morbus Chron, Abyssal, Vanhelgd and the like.
The Aeon of Sulphur awaits. A crack in the sky. A threshold. The gateway to the antisphere…

Since we all love to revisit our favorite Metal albums from yesteryear, here are myFive Metal Albums I Cannot Live Without: The 90’s Edition, Part 1. This list is in no particular order and you can expect for me to include EP’s for this or future Metal discussions. If you cannot live without any of the following Metal albums as well, feel free to blab about it with a comment! Metal be thy name!
King Diamond – The Graveyard
King Diamond released 4 studio albums during the 90’s and The Graveyard is from 1996. Following his modus operandi, King Diamond’s The Graveyard is an evil concept album, one that never ceases to amaze and spook me, time after time.
My favorite song from this album is I Am; a King Diamond song that sends chills through each molecule of my body and it’s truly due to King Diamond’s jaw-dropping falsetto.
Queensrÿche – Empire
Queensrÿche’s fourth studio album, Empire, was released back in 1990. What a whiz-bang way to start off the 90’s decade for Queensrÿche! I still have my cassette version of Empire and yes I did upgrade it to CD. Jet City Woman is my favorite song from this album; it makes my face all flush and psyche-out shit like that. Whoa!
OVERKILL – Horrorscope
From 1991, Horrorscope is the fifth studio album released by The Garden State’s OVERKILL. I Metal worship this OVERKILL album!! Coma, the title track and OVERKILL’s cover version of the great Edgar Winter’s instrumental, Frankenstein, are 3 songs of pure Thrash Metal bliss! Please read below (OVERKILL – I Hear Black) for more reasoning as to why I love Horrorscope…
OVERKILL – I Hear Black
From 1993, I Hear Black is the sixth studio album released by New Jersey’s OVERKILL. This super-legendary Thrash Metal band stayed very busy during the 90’s, releasing 6 studio albums and a cover song album titled: Coverkill. Whoa, man!
I love this (and the above) OVERKILL album for it kept me solid company during the early 90’s; which was a very sad and trying time in my life. Yes, OVERKILL was there when I needed them most. I still have the cassettes of both titles and did not upgrade to CDs until around 2007.
The mighty W.A.S.P. released 4 studio albums during the 90’s! Hell, yeah they did and Blackie Lawless is a Metal Defender Of The Faith! Still Not Black Enough is the sixth studio album from W.A.S.P. and it was released back in 1995. Holy Metal shit, is this a tremendous W.A.S.P. album!
Blackie Lawless did not waste a micro note of space on this album, every song is an ass kicking that always makes me say (or think): thank you, Mr. Lawless and W.A.S.P., may I please have more sonic Metal beatings sirs?
My favorite song on this album is Rock and Roll To Death. Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale got me into W.A.S.P. in the 80’s and reintroduced me to W.A.S.P. in the Millennium Decade as well! ‘Nuff said. Enjoy the song below and Metal Be Thy Name!
Since we all love to revisit our favorite Metal albums from yesteryear, here are myFive Metal Albums I Cannot Live Without: The 80’s Edition, Part 1. This list is in no particular order and I do include EP’s for this Metal discussion. If you cannot live without any of the following Metal albums as well, feel free to blab about it with a comment. Metal be thy name!
Ozzy Osbourne – The Ultimate Sin
Released in 1986, this is the fourth studio album from the Godfather Of Heavy Metal. With Jake E. Lee on guitar and a powerful lineup of songs, The Ultimate Sin is an album that screams good-times 80’s for me. Never Know Why, Fool Like You and Shot In The Dark are my favorite three songs on this LP. Rest in peace, Randy Castillo.
METALLICA – Ride The Lightning
Before there was a Master Of Puppets, there was Ride The Lightning from 1984. I can remember holding this LP jacket in my hands and staring at both the front and back covers, wondering how a band could play such unbelievable Heavy Metal. It did not take me very long to realize what Thrash Metal was about, once I took ownership of this album. Rest in peace, Cliff Burton.
ANTHRAX – Armed And Dangerous
Released in 1985, this was the first EP from the great Anthrax. I bought it at a (now defunct) chain store named Strawberries Records & Tapes. I bought this EP without hearing a single song from it and it did not disappoint! The cover song of Sex Pistol’sGod Save The Queen is whiz-bang, baby!
Queensrÿche – (self-titled)
Released back in 1983, this self-titled Queensrÿche EP is as necessary to my Metal world as bottled water is. I remember first hearing the song Queen Of The Reich on a syndicated FM radio show called: Metal Shop. When I heard this song, my life changed for the better, I swear it. My other favorite song from this EP is The Lady Wore Black and it’s a Metal gem!!
NUCLEAR ASSAULT – Handle With Care
From 1989, this was the third studio album from Nuclear Assault and I still have it on cassette! Metal be thy name! It rages from start to finish and now I am pumped-up to slap this cassette into my car stereo! With such songs as Critical Mass, Surgery and a load of others, this album is a keeper! Nuclear Assault are a Thrash Metal band that (without a doubt) helped shape their genre into the Metal force it is today. ‘Nuff said.
On March 14th, 1971 – The hit single, Me and Bobby McGee, by Janis Joplin was at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the United States. This hit is featured on the 1971 album from Janis Joplin: Pearl. This song was written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster and originally recorded by Roger Miller.
On this day in 1974 – The legendary Aerosmith performed at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. Aerosmith were touring in support of their second studio album: Get Your Wings. Yes, this album features the memorable song: Same Old Song and Dance.
On March 14th, 1975 – The great Led Zeppelin performed at the Sports Arena in San Diego, California. Whoa!
On this day in 1980 – The sensational Def Leppard released their debut studio album: On Through The Night.
On March 14th, 1989 – Boston’s very own Extreme released their debut and self-titled studio album. Yes, this album features the song: Kid Ego.
On this day in 1992 – RUSH performed a concert at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. RUSH had released their 14th studio album in September of 1991: Roll The Bones.
On March 14th, 2015 – Master Of Puppets from the super-mighty Metallica has returned to the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, sitting at #192! Whoa, man! This third studio album from Metallica was released back in March of 1986, peaking at #29 on this same chart. Master Of Puppets has spent 73 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200. Without this Metallica album existing, life would super-duper and 100% suck to the maximum. Metal be thy name. – Stone
Doyle Bright of Rigor Mortis and Hallows Eve fame has launched a new band: S.O.G. aka Special Operations Group.
Special Operations Group has signed with Hallows Eve Media and are currently recording their debut album entitled “If It Bleeds” in Atlanta, Georgia, with a release set for mid Summer of 2015.
S.O.G. has signed on to perform at the Maxima Distorzion Metal Awards in Houston, Texas, on June 18th 2015, where Doyle Bright will be receiving the Texas Metal Legends Award as well.
A YouTube link for the teaser cut of “If It Bleeds” is below:
“Get ready for brutal metal with real feeling from the fucking third world! We are gonna put the mosh pit on fire so pay attention and join us!”
Heady advice from vocalist and guitarist Marcus D’Angelo on what Europe can expect when Brazilian Thrash heavyweights Claustrofobia come crashing into town on their headline Visceral European Tour.
The band announce a 29 date tour taking in eleven different countries over nearly two months on the road, and include appearances alongside the likes of Primordial and Fleshgod Apocalypse at Portugal’s SWR Festival [01/05/15]. More dates will be added in the coming weeks.
For now to give you a taste of what to expect on the tour, watch the band’s video for track ‘Bastardos do Brasil’ from most recent album release, Peste [2011/2014]:
Claustrofobia has been causing brutal Thrash mayhem in Brazil and beyond for the past twenty years and the band is looking forward to celebrating their anniversary with their European fans! Comments Marcus, “To play live is the real ambition of bands like us. We don’t like ‘internet bands’; we prefer to play face to face. We will play gigs almost everyday so we will spread our music around.”
The band has also released an exclusive DVD entitled Visceral 20 Yearsshowcasing Claustrofobia’s journey to the well-oiled Thrash machine that it is today.
And it’s not just about the celebration of the past twenty years, it’s about looking to the future too as the band is only recently out of the recording studio with none other than producer Russ Russell [Napalm Death, The Exploited, Evile] at the helm.
“We are very excited with the results!”, states Marcus. “It is gonna be a great album with a futurist vibe and it will hopefully open up our own sound in a new way.’ The untitled album, which as of yet does not have any label attachment, can be expected nearer the end of 2015.
