2011 is the year of the 25th anniversary in the history of BOLT THROWER. It´s about time for an update from the band:

“Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don’t split up and you’ll reach one, whether it’s 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we’ve reached ’25 years of not splitting up’!

We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn’t give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given since 1986, and that we’ve been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We’ve been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that’s the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.

So, we want to organize a Bolty Birthday Bash, where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years. We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we’ll get there in the end! Well, that’s all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon, so keep checking back.”

Cheers,

Bolt Thrower

NILE – Worship The Animal / 1994 The Lost Recordings: 5 Songs Of Essential, Savage Metal

NILE – Releasing on October 11th, 2011, on Goomba Music, is the five song hidden Metal treasure from NILE: Worship The Animal / 1994 The Lost Recordings. Let’s put this (new) release from NILE into Metal perspective here, these are five Extreme/Death Metal songs recorded back in 1994 that obliterate a noteworthy percentage of the average and “good” albums that cross my Metal path in 2011. These “lost recordings” from NILE are without a doubt in my Metal mind, essential to pick up and listen to on a continued timetable. Metal be thy name.

This early demo from NILE is saturated with crunchy riffs from Karl Sanders and a Thrash colliding with Death Metal wall of sound. Haunting vibes run rampant throughout, while slivers of Doom Metal resonate from many guitar parts, with Surrounded By Fright being a fine example of this. No where is there a dull moment on these songs, they are raw and in your face with a real-feel that I cannot deny. The bass of Chief Spires and drumming of Pete Hammoura are stuff of underground Metal legend on these songs… enough thundering stump to create a sink hole beneath your tower speakers.

The vocals are fierce and hair-raising, just what any NILE fan would come to expect. The union of these mammoth vocals and Metal are an all-encompassing experience of just how incredible NILE did sound at their onset. The chant-like backing vocals on the title track are immediately haunting and it’s elements like this that made NILE stand out among their Death Metal peers of yesterday and even now. This title track is my favorite out of the five and I can’t get enough of it. Metal as my witness, I’m placing this Worship The Animal song on my personal list of greatest Metal songs ever. You bet it is, in all of its non-technical, stripped down and riff heavy glory.

NILE has certainly come a long way since these lost recordings were created, always raising their own bar on jaw-dropping technicality heard swirling within their legendary Death Metal style. Listening to these songs makes me realize that NILE and Karl Sanders were destined to persevere and exist with Death Metal authority in 2011. The Ancient Egyptian themes all started here, a lyrical trademark with NILE. These never before mass-released recordings are the building blocks of what has evolved over time, with this ever successful Death Metal juggernaut. The original NILE lineup has easily been anointed legendary, only these lost recordings power-stamp this Metal fact.
