Las Vegas-based doom bringers, DEMON LUNG, will unleash the forlorn fruits of their A Dracula full-length next month via Candlelight Records. Captured by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), the record boasts eight dark, devious hymns centered loosely on Juan López Moctezuma’s 1977 horror film, Alucardain which two teenage orphan girls living in a Catholic convent unleash a demonic force and ultimately become possessed by Satan.

Alucarda is a more relatable story for me than our last album’s [The Hundredth Name] subject matter,” vocalist Shanda Fredrick issues, “which made writing a lot more fun this time around. The heroine in this story is the daughter of Satan, who happens to fall in love with the purest of souls in the convent she resides. She coaxed this soul over to the dark, with only intentions of love but in doing so she dooms her to death by the hands of the nuns. The anger consumes her and she uses her dark powers to resurrect her love and together they kill the convent and then the world.”

As a precursor to its official unveiling, today Decibel Magazine offers up sixth movement,Mark Of Jubilee” for public consumption at THIS LOCATION.

A Dracula comes nearly two years to the date from the successful release of the band’s critically lauded, 2013-released The Hundredth Name. Media applauded the band, especially Fredrick with Decibel Magazine gushing, “She emerges like a high empress, adding real soul to the quintet’s lurch.” Ghost Cult called the debut, “a modern doom masterpiece,” Las Vegas Weekly concurred noting, “Everything about DEMON LUNG‘s debut screams epic,” while New Noise Magazine gushed, “This record is mammoth. Bass riffs tuned low drag the listener into a dark, solemn swamp of evil. The atmosphere created is as important as each note plucked from Lucifer’s hairy hind quarters.” Added This Is Not A Scene accurately, “The future of doom seems to be in safe hands.”

DEMON LUNG is vocalist Shanda Fredrick, drummer Jeremy Brenton, guitarists Phil Burns and Brent Lynch and bassist Jason Lamb. A Dracula will be released via Candlelight Records on June 16th, 2015 with tour dates to be announced shortly. In the meantime, preorders are available at THIS LOCATION. Neurosis - promo band pic - 2015 - #052715MON

As their thirtieth anniversary nears, NEUROSIS will be hitting the road in their most extensive touring of the North American continent in over fifteen years this Summer, the announcement falling as the dust still settles on Baltimore following their crushing performance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest.

Not since prior to the turn of the millennium has the mighty NEUROSIS embarked on a tour of this size, as this week the band confirms more than a dozen new tour dates between the end of July and the middle of August throughout the Midwestern, East Coast, and Southern US states and the lower Eastern portion of Canada. Besides the extensive nature of the tour, they will also be playing in cities and states which they have not visited since the ’90s.

For this widespread endeavor, NEUROSIS will bring an array of excellent acts to the stage with them, including support from labelmates Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, featuring Tad Doyle, for the entire trek, as well as eight shows with nomadic doomsday cult, The Body, five dates with expansive rock duo, Sumac (members of Baptists, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis, etc.), and one show each with Pinkish Black and labelmates Iron Tongue. This all comes in addition to NEUROSIS’ previously announced inclusion in the massive, three-day Heavy Montréal Festival consuming August 7th – 9th, where the band will perform the opening night with the likes of Mastodon, Meshuggah, Gorguts, Arch Enemy and many others.

Tickets for the impending NEUROSIS tour will go on sale for all shows this Friday, May 29th.

As their ongoing legacy nears its thirty-year mark, NEUROSIS has become an institution of heavy music. From their beginnings as a hardcore punk band in the mid-’80s to their gradual evolution into a transcendent and genre-defying collective, the Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights including Isis, Mastodon and High On Fire and inspiring endless legions of fans with their expansive, mind-altering works.

In 2012, NEUROSIS released one of their most ambitious albums to date, with Honor Found In Decay, cultivated through their own Neurot Recordings. Recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mastered by John Golden of Golden Mastering, the album showcased the band taking their esoteric but leveling and categorization-free style of extreme music to even diverse areas of exploration.

Following the record release show, the outfit disbanded with the longtime visuals that had accompanied their live set nearly since inception, empowering their anthems in a drastically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been more active tour-wise than they have since before the turn of the millennium, and seemingly shows no time of ending the campaign any time soon.

POISON IDEA – Declares Indefinite Hiatus; Cancels Upcoming Tour Dates

Posted in hardcore, hardcore bands, Music, punk, rock music with tags , , , on May 28, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Poison Idea - promo band pic - 2015 - #052715PIMO

Upon returning from their successful European Tour which consumed the past several weeks, POISON IDEA has returned home and announced that the band is going on hiatus for an undetermined amount of time. The band has issued that they need to address some health issues and personal matters, and all upcoming shows for the indeterminable future have been cancelled or postponed. Additional details on the band’s future plans will be announced at a later date.

Portland, Oregon’s undisputed kings of punk, POISON IDEA released their critically acclaimed Confuse & Conquer LP through Southern Lord Recordings in April of this year. Setting everything in its path ablaze with the energetic pummeling assault the band has assaulted the planet with for three-and-a-half decades, and by incorporating the use of epic piano segues, the album is an instant classic for all POISON IDEA fans as well as one of the most undeniably important releases in the punk/hardcore realms this year.

The band’s first new album since 2006’s Latest Will And Testament, and first since the passing of their great friend and guitarist, the iconic Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts, Confuse & Conquer boasts thirty-five minutes of thundering, infectious rage recorded in the band’s hometown by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise) at Audiosiege, and proves that absolutely nothing can stop this legendary act and all attempts are a futile waste of time.

Confuse & Conquer LP is available on colored 12″ vinyl and CD including shirt and vinyl bundles HERE, and the album is streaming in full and available for digital purchase HERE.

Poison Idea - Confuse & Conquer - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #052715PIMO

Formed in 1980, POISON IDEA became a household name in the hardcore/punk scenes early in their career, and are known as one of the most notoriously in-your-face acts in the American musical underworld, with an enraged, high-energy live set even more rambunctious than the massive roster of singles, EPs, full-length studio and live releases and more, across a realm of labels including Pusmort, Alchemy, American Leather, Bitzcore, Tim/Kerr, Taang!, Farewell, TKO, Southern Lord, Candlelight, and their own Fatal Erection.

They’ve been an incredibly influential act to major performers including Nirvana, Pantera, Napalm Death, Machine Head, Eyehategod, Emperor, Turbonegro and an endless list of others. Soaking up respect from generations of hardcore punks and dishing none out, the dastardly denizens of mid-paced punk shred are in trademark form on Confuse & Conquer.

POISON IDEA‘s new masterpiece proves itself both identifiable and rewarding to listeners who have encountered them at any point from their 1980 birth onwards. Their forceful hardcore pummel is underwritten with dark humor, rage, disdain, and moments of real melancholy well beyond the usual remit of the genre, but it’s to be expected of Portland’s nihilistic champions, proudly unaligned with any other sound out there.
