Los Angeles, CA – Following on the footsteps of the hugely successful North American “Surfing to Shockwave” tour, Joe Satriani announces his upcoming European tour dates beginning June 18th in France. The tour will touch 11 countries in all, including Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland – in just one month of touring. A few of these stops will be G3 dates featuring Satriani joined by Steve Vai and the Aristocrats (see below for details).

The North American leg wrapped up late April in Vancouver after a full-on 2-month tour where the hard-working guitarist hit 48 dates in the U.S. and Canada, many of which were sold-out in advance. The “Surfing to Shockwave” tour is in celebration of the guitar icon’s “30 Years of Mind-Bending Guitar Daredevilry,” a phrase coined in a June 2014 career-defining retrospective feature in Rolling Stone. Each night, SATRIANI spotlights music from his first solo album, “Not of this Earth” through his latest release, his 15th solo album, “Shockwave Supernova”.

During the tour, concert going fans were able to enter the “Little Kids Rock” raffle with a chance to win a signed JS 20th Anniversary Ibanez guitar. Over 2000 concert fans purchased a tix with the grand prize winners, Brian & Debbie Currier, chosen last month. On June 4th, Brian & Debbie flew to meet Joe and receive the autographed guitar. The funds raised through the raffle will enable Little Kids Rock to bring the transformational gift of music to more than 700 public school children by helping launch Modern Band music programs in schools that may otherwise be in danger of having their music programming eliminated due to budget cuts.

Little Kids Rock provides professional development training to music teachers and donates all of the instruments and curriculum they need to teach their students to play the popular musical styles that they know and love on day one! Little Kids Rock is proud to support music programs across the country, and specifically in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the program was founded and currently impacts the lives of nearly 12,000 K-12 public school students in more than 100 schools.

In other live appearance news, the previously announced 2016 G4 Experience will take place at the Glen Cove Mansion on Long Island, NY, August 8-12, 2016. Now in its third year, the G4 Experience quite literally brings the Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum guitar legend and innovator back home. SATRIANI famously grew up in the Long Island area, even cutting his teeth at venues in the surrounding neighborhoods. One of his very first students was none other than best friend and fellow native Steve Vai. That makes Glen Cove Mansion the ultimate location for the G4 Experience. Once again, SATRIANI attracted some of the instrument’s foremost talents as instructors, including Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Alex Skolnick, Mike Keneally, and more.

Joe Satriani - promo pic - #22 - 2013

This past August, the world-renowned guitarist released his 15th studio album, hitting Satriani’s highest chart debut at #19 on Billboard’s Top 200 Current Albums Chart. In addition, the album also debuted at #3 on the Billboard Rock Chart and ranks as the highest charting all-instrumental rock album on Billboard’s Top 200 in the SoundScan era.

For two decades, the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all-star “G3” guitar extravaganza. Satriani’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone platinum and four others went gold, with 15 Grammy nominations between them. His side project, Chickenfoot, featuring former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith saw their debut album certified gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.

Joe’s touring band remains Marco Minnemann on drums, Bryan Beller on bass and Mike Keneally on keys & guitar.

Denominate - Those Who Beheld The End - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MOILMGCSO333

Finnish Technical Death Metal band Denominate signs to Inverse Records.

Denominate is a progressive Technical Death Metal band based in Oulu, Finland. Denominate draws influence from bands like Death and Carcass and blends it together with newer, more progressive and technical elements to create a progressive sound with a touch of old-school.

Denominate’s new album, “Those Who Beheld the End”, which is being released on August 5th 2016 through Inverse Records, is an album that further hones Denominate’s sound towards the progressive. “Those Who Beheld the End” has a more polished sound and experiments more with melody, while still keeping the heaviness of Denominate’s debut EP “Realms of Confusion” present.

“Those Who Beheld the End” was recorded and mixed at a private studio in Oulu. The album was recorded and mixed by Joacim U. Belius and the mastering was done in Sweden at Unisound AB by Dan Swanö.

Destroyer Of Light - West Coast Tour - 2016 - promo flyer - #MO99ILMFOT333

Austin doom-crushers, DESTROYER OF LIGHT, have updated their Summer tour, which begins in just one week, then consumes the remainder of June and nearly half of July.

The upcoming tour is the first extensive tour from DESTROYER OF LIGHT since their Summer 2015 tour with Godhunter, which was booked in support of their Endsville split 2xLP. This new trek sees DESTROYER OF LIGHT taking their Endsville anthems back out to the masses, beginning in Fort Worth on June 16th, then running up through the Central and Midwestern states to the Pacific Northwest, before running down the West Coast on their way back to Texas, the final show going down in the band’s hometown on July 11th.

A brief trailer for the tour is posted HERE or below:

Additionally, DESTROYER OF LIGHT has been confirmed to take part in the second installment of Shadow Woods Metal Fest in Maryland this September, with the likes of Zud, Tombs, Mantar, Wino with Faith In Jane, Ghost Bath, Darsombra, Blood Storm, and countless others, around which another tour is being routed.

Following the recent departure of Keegan Kjeldsen, these tour dates will see DESTROYER OF LIGHT taking to the streets as a three-piece for the first time, with Jeff Klein handling lead guitars, Steve Colca on guitars and vocals, and Penny turner on drums, the trio strategically bulking up on extra amplification for the journey. The band is working on their new album, which will see release in early 2017 on a label to be announced at a later date along with more info on the permanent lineup.

Stream DESTROYER OF LIGHT’s Endsville split with Godhunter RIGHT HERE and see the lyric video for “Electric Shadows” HERE or below:

KING DEAD: Psychedelic Bass And Drum Trio Confirms New Live Dates; Vinyl Edition Of “Woe & Judgement” Now Available

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on June 7, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

King Dead - live promo photo - 2016 - #MOILMNFS99456

Pennsylvania mostly instrumentalists, KING DEAD, will bring their spacious, tripped out, post-metal/doom manifestations to the stage on a smattering of live performances this Summer. The band’s latest excursions include an in-store appearance this weekend at Darkside Records in Poughkeepsie, New York with Geezer and Linear North.

Comments drummer Steve Truglio of the upcoming dates, “It’s really getting fun now. Not only are we enjoying the hell out of playing the new Woe & Judgment stuff, but we just started test driving an even newer song in the set. We are playing cool places with great bands and things are really starting to click.”

KING DEAD undraped their three-song full-length, Woe & Judgement, earlier this year. Having impressed with the spacious post-metal textures of their 2014 demo, the scope of Woe & Judgement has expanded considerably even from where it started. With three tracks constructed to fit on two sides, KING DEAD – Truglio with four-string bassist Kevin Vanderhoof, and six-string bassist Wil McGrath – pushes its way into an encompassing rumble that still seems to hold onto a human core even as it lumbers between airy doom and rawer, thoroughly reverbed noise.

King Dead - Woe & Judgement - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MO990099ILMFSO

“It’s an immersive, thirty-seven-minute stretch,” proclaims The Obelisk, “but lack of pretense prevails, and KING DEAD‘s debut long-player finds them aesthetically locked in and proffering a balance between the raw and the lush, with a patience underlying that only makes the songs seem more methodical.”

Woe & Judgement is currently available on limited edition vinyl and can be streamed at THIS LOCATION.

KING DEAD have been conspicuously haunting the Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania area. Bass players Wil McGrath and Kevin Vanderhoof, recruited New Jersey transplant Steve Truglio on drums in 2013, and have been traumatizing ears throughout Pennsylvania ever since. Their debut record Woe & Judgement was recorded by Dave Reiser in Stroudsburg at Rock Hard Studios. Call it sludge, doom, spaghetti western doom sludge… With virtually no vocals, it’s all about dynamics and the building tempos. Creepy, dreary, sleepy and melodic riffs layered over deep bottom and pounding drums.

FAITH NO MORE – Reissue Landmark Debut Album, “We Care A Lot”, On August 19th

FAITH NO MORE REISSUE LANDMARK DEBUT ALBUM, WE CARE A LOT, ON AUGUST 19th VIA KOOLARROW RECORDS

LONG OUT OF PRINT RELEASE GETS DELUXE TREATMENT WITH NEW MIXES, DEMOS AND LIVE RECORDINGS; PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW

“With We Care A Lot, I always felt like I was part of something new and different than anything else out there at the time. It made me feel privileged to be a part of it. The other guys were so cool, and there was so much camaraderie. And that came across in the music; Bordin’s drums battling it out with Billy’s bass in antagonistic harmony, Roddy’s melodic atmosphere, swallowed up by Jim’s crunchy metal riffs. I found my place somewhere between them all, and when the album was finished, it didn’t sound like anything else.” – Chuck Mosley

Faith No More - Promo Cover Pic - 2016 - #MO999ILMF99333

SAN FRANCISCO, June, 2016 – Faith No More’s landmark debut, We Care A Lot, which was initially released in 1985 and has been out of print for 20 years, sees an Aug. 19 reissue via Bill Gould’s Koolarrow Records.

“This was an album that started as a demo, before any label had any interest in us,” explained Faith No More bass player Bill Gould. “There were a couple of reasons we decided to release this now: first of all, it’s been 20 years since it has been commercially available. Secondly, when cleaning out my basement, I discovered the original master reels, and we all thought that resurrecting this from the original tapes would be a great way to reintroduce We Care A Lot into the world. Lastly, this has been a band effort; we are releasing this in the same way as we recorded it, deciding everything amongst ourselves and getting our hands deep into the nuts and bolts… just like we used to.”

The original 10-song album, remastered by Maor Appelbaum via the original reels Gould alluded to, is enhanced with nine bonus tracks including demo versions (taken from the original 8-track tapes) of “Greed,” “Mark Bowen,” “Arabian Disco” and “Intro,” live versions of “The Jungle” and “New Beginnings” and new mixes, via Matt Wallace, of “We Care A Lot,” “Pills for Breakfast” and “As The Worm Turns.” Liner notes from keyboard player Roddy Bottum and behind-the-scenes photos will be included with the physical release.

We Care A Lot (Deluxe Band Edition) is available now for pre-order on CD:

Faith No More - We Care A Lot - 1985 - promo band pic - #MO99ILMFN33

We Care A Lot arrived in November 1985 via Maximum RocknRoll editor Ruth Schwartz’s Mordam Records. The seminal album, boasting the timeless title track, which can still be heard daily on radio stations worldwide, confounded music fans and critics alike. As Pitchfork said in a 2015 article dubbed “The Misunderstanding of Faith No More,” the unpredictable and hard-to-define band “had radically altered the parameters of popular music years before the fabled alternative revolution.” Rolling Stone called it a “raw punk album” while Select Magazine dubbed it “a lustful marriage of mutoid metal and dance floor verve.”

“When strangers ask what Faith No More is I’ve always said, ‘well, it’s kind of an art band…’ I say that mostly to distance us from the hard rock world that we’re often times lumped into. I mean, hard rock, sure, that was part of it, but our roots most definitely and pointedly stem from a specific freakout art time and place in San Francisco, a time that no longer exists. In 1982, the hippies mingled with the punks, the artists hung out with the musicians, the dance people and the punks were one and the Satanists and the sexual pioneers… all part of the same scene,” Bottum explains, colorfully setting the scene for the original inspiration for the band and We Care A Lot. “That weird SF window provided a platform from which we were free to express and cultivate a really uniquely odd sound experience. In Los Angeles, no one really cared much, but SF was always super supportive, encouraging us, directly and not, to get our collective freak on.”

“We felt like it was time to take the next step,” adds drummer Mike Bordin. “We raised as much money as we were able and booked time at Prairie Sun Studios just north of San Francisco. I can’t remember how long it took us to record the album, but not a lot, maybe a few days. The songs were sharp from having played most of them at various shows. Very stripped down, basic as could be. The place was on a farm in chicken country (Petaluma). Hard work, but a ton of fun too.”

We Care A Lot (Deluxe Band Edition) Track List:

1. We Care A Lot
2. The Jungle
3. Mark Bowen
4. Jim
5. Why Do You Bother
6. Greed
7. Pills for Breakfast

ABNORMALITY are a young Death Metal band that exhibits the talent, energy and drive to go very far in our Metal world. Experiencing ABNORMALITY live has only solidified my previously positive Metal opinion about them BIG time. Originating from Massachusetts and fronted by vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy, ABNORMALITY are signed to Metal Blade Records. I was fortunate to witness the live Death Metal fury of ABNORMALITY at Oddbody’s Music Room, in Dayton, Ohio, on May 7th, of this year.

With ABNORMALITY‘s new studio album Mechanisms of Omniscience just being released on April 29th, they are touring to support their Death Metal album achievement; supporting mega Metal monsters BATTLECROSS, SUFFOCATION and the legendary SOULFLY. This is quite an impressive supporting slot to have, considering the enormous influence that SUFFOCATION has had on the Death Metal family and the unparalleled Metal history of Max Cavalera’s SOULFLY. Whoa.

Being in the pit for any Metal show at my age now is usually not that stinking easy. I do feel the hits, slaps and random punches more than I used to, say, twenty-five years ago. Despite my being older, I am more wiser; therefore being up-front and against the stage for ABNORMALITY was a no-brainer for me! I took the numerous hits! F*ck yeah. I wanted to be a part of Death Metal history, being able to say I experienced ABNORMALITY as close as I could get! This band is that fun to see and hear up-close; combined with their Death Metal assault, grooves, vibes and obvious future potential, it’s freaking bragging rights to only see them this way and not from afar.

ABNORMALITY played to a packed house at Oddbody’s, with their battalion of fans that were unmistakably in attendance. Forget about the song list here; I was too busy taking in ABNORMALITY‘s deadly wall-of-sound, while doing my damn best to sustain the physical barrage upon my body. That’s Metal. Pure and f*%kin simple. Mallika Sundaramurthy‘s guttural vocals are eye-popping! Do not underestimate Mallika. Her stage presence is commanding, while working the fans into a Metal frenzyregardless of her petite size and seriously cute looks. Mallika’s vocals and the entire band, without a doubt, kicked my ears into Death Metal submission! Amazing.

I obviously had a blast being a part of this ABNORMALITY moment in Metal time. For thirty minutes or so I didn’t care about any other band in the world; my entire Metal soul was focused on what I was feeling and hearing from ABNORMALITY. The body hits I was taking didn’t matter; nor did my head getting dizzy spells from the entire pit encounter. This was my Metal moment with ABNORMALITY and I was going to savor every f*#kin second of it; as well I did. Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

Pictured below is the psyched-out me, with Mallika Sundaramurthy. Metal be thy name, what a funtastic night!

VERWOED – Cult Black Metal Outfit, Formerly Named Woudloper, To Release New Bodemloos LP Via Argento Records In July

Posted in Black Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on June 4, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Verwoed - Bodemloos - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MO99ILMFSO4321

Argento Records proudly confirms the label’s next official release, with a newly recorded album by Dutch Black Metal act, VERWOED, titled Bodemloos, marking the outfit’s first recordings since converting from the moniker, Woudloper.

Utrecht-based soloist Erik B. began paving his path of destruction as one-man project, Woudloper, in 2014, creating an ethereal yet scathing style, heavily rooted in traditional Black Metal, yet reaching into more psychedelic realms of inspiration. Breathe Plastic released a critically acclaimed, self-titled demo tape in 2015, yet immediately subsequent to its release the project changed its name to VERWOED, as an even more exploratory epoch of the band was taking place.

On the maiden official VERWOED release, Bodemloos sees this artisan peeling back even more layers of this project, exposing incredibly dense and much more psychedelic and hallucinogenic cosmic textures than before, while remaining yielding in its nihilistic and violent tactics. Bodemloos brings three massive new movements into existence, its immersive tones recorded, mixed, and mastered by John Bart Van Der Wal (Aborted, Herder), the album completed with cover artwork created by Joost Vervoost (Terzij De Horde). Argento Records will release Bodemloos on CD, digital, and 180-gram one-sided LP, the vinyl’s B-side featuring an etching handled by Reuben Sawyer (Chelsea Wolfe, Hollow Sunshine), on July 8th. Audio samples, preorders and further info on Bodemloos will be issued in the days ahead.

Following the release of Bodemloos, VERWOED will transform from a solo outing into a five-piece lineup, and begin performing live, the first shows to be announced shortly.

IRON IMPERIUM - Dead Ahead - Band promo pic - 2016 - #MO990333ILMFSO

IRON IMPERIUM is an Alternative – Heavy Metal band from Jyväskylä, Finland, formed in 2012, with music inspired by bands like Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down and ’80’s Heavy Metal. The band’s lyric poetry swims in the dark waters. The band could be described as Modern Metal, among which has a little bit of 80’s Metal, darkness and Grunge, yet it’s still energetic and honest Metal music.
