Australia can be a harsh, hostile place to live. It is fitting that a continent of arid deserts and every creature poisonous and toothy has produced so much great extreme metal. To those ranks, add relative newcomers SEWERCIDE. The Melbourne-based band has actually been around five years now, building their name and sound across a string of splits and EPs, and through relentless live shows at home and abroad. Now at last comes their debut full-length Immortalized In Suffering, just in time for their first U.S. tour.

EXTERMINATION TEMPLE – Lifeless Forms EP By Obscure Swedish Death Metal Soloist Now Available And Playing In Its Entirety

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on March 5, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Extermination Temple - Lifeless Forms EP - promo cover pic - 2016 - #MO99099

The new Lifeless Forms EP by ambiguous Swedish Death Metal solo outfit EXTERMINATION TEMPLE is out today and available to hear in its demoralizing entirety.

The cryptic EXTERMINATION TEMPLE is another project from the same artist who crafts the Blackened Hardcore madness of Broken Cross, and while the outfit’s self-titled 2014 cassette demo was an equal mix of Black and Death Metal, the impending Lifeless Forms 7″ is undoubtedly overall more Death Metal.

Self-produced and recorded by the artist, the creepy and twisted sound carries direct influences from old-school Swedish Death Metal, with elements of hardcore and experimental/atmospheric influences. Lyrically contemplating such subjects as death, mental illness, and morbidity, the appropriately malevolent cover artwork was created by Dwid Hellion (Integrity, Vermapyre).

In an early premiere of the EP’s “Physical Torture,” No Clean Singing proclaimed, “The guitar leads move from moans to shrieks, with whammy-bar solos swooping and diving like fire-bombers. The pacing changes, accelerating into thrashing assaults with deep, drilling riffs and then dropping back into that huge, pile-driving rumble. And the vocals? Utterly deranged. A menagerie of agonized howls and skin-splitting shrieks that sound exactly like someone undergoing… physical torture.”

About.com’s Heavy Metal sector just posted a 4/5 review of the EP which includes, “EXTERMINATION TEMPLE‘s diseased Death Metal is of a strain purists can get behind. Gnarly and unforgiving, it’s sure to give the ole neck a workout… Lifeless Forms is a nasty little chunk of Swedeath that has this writer excited for more.” Metal Rules agreed with a 4/5 review as well: “An intersection of traditional Swede-death and crusty blackened thrash, it’s a surprisingly well crafted DIY project… the four tracks on Lifeless Forms seethe like a hybrid of early Dismember, Bathory, and Discharge… each tune charging hard and fast with tempered groove and fiery, full-throated exaltations of evil.”

Stream EXTERMINATION TEMPLE’s entire Lifeless Forms EP at Bandcamp HERE and Soundcloud HERE.

The red vinyl 7″ pressing of Lifeless Forms has been slightly delayed, with preorders available HERE, while the digital download is now available HERE. Both versions are released through Apocalyptic Visions, the DIY label operated by the EXTERMINATION TEMPLE architect.

Swedish Death Metallers TEMISTO Releasing Debut Album On Pulverised In February

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on January 4, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Temisto - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MO33ILMLMD99344

Swedish Death Metal Duo TEMISTO will release its debut album on Pulverised Records February 26, 2016.  New track Above Sacred Ground is streaming at this location.

TEMISTO’s debut is the perfect mix of blasphemy and violence. Death Metal with bursts of intricate maze-like passages executed with razor-sharp precision, TEMISTO exudes a zeal for the obscure and unworldly. Formed recently in Stockholm, Sweden, TEMISTO consists of only two members: Leo Ekström Sollenmo and Sebastian Lindbom Gunnari.

The album was produced and engineered by ex-Morbus Chron frontman Robert Andersson with Elias Scharmer (ex-Abduction, ex-Mutilate) and then painstakingly mastered at Necromorbus Studio by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Desultory, Repugnant, etc). Also featuring the gracefully morbid artwork of Obsessed By Cruelty (Enforcer, Sabbat, Wolfbrigade, etc).

For fans of AUTOPSY, MORBUS CHRON, OBLITERATION, MORBID ANGEL, etc!

Track List:

1. Above Sacred Ground
2. Descent Into Madness
3. Abyssal Depths
4. Medusa
5. The Ritual
6. Succubus
7. Demiurge
8. Bestial Visions
9. Temple Of The Damned
10. Seance

TEMISTO - band promo pic - 2016 - #MO33ILMFLMD1099

BAND BIOGRAPHY

Leo was previously the frontman of a Death Metal act called Whore, releasing a demo-tape back in 2011. Whore split up around the same time and shortly after; Leo, Sebastian and two other guys formed what would later become Temisto. They recorded a two-track demo back in 2013 but eventually decided not to release it officially. By late 2014, the band realized that they had enough material for a full length album and a good opportunity to record it in a studio with Robert and Elias and so they recorded it all during two weeks in February / March of 2015.

Crusty Death Metal Monsters RAVENS CREED With Members Of CEREBRAL FIX, SABBAT And ORANGE GOBLIN

Ravens Creed - Ravens Krieg - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #MO33499MDF

RAVENS CREED (UK) – ‘Ravens Krieg’

Genre – Crusty Death Metal

Release Date – October 1st, 2015

Record Label – Xtreem Music

Shit, this is good. Xtreem Music is at it again. Crusty Death Metal the way you like it. Formed originally by members of Cerebral Fix, Sabbat, Orange Goblin among others, Ravens Creed from the UK are whipping up a concoction of crusty Death Metal that’s hard to come by these days.

There’s the classic vibe channelled through the glass shards-encrusted and Thrash Metal-spiked Death Metal music that’s just extremely virulent and nasty in its final output. This here is an abrasive mass of Crust/Death/Thrash music that destroys any structure standing. The heaviness is palpable while the unique tone will make your skin peel backwards. This is the second and most potent full length of the band yet and it will rip your face right off and scrub what’s left with acid.

UNDER THE CHURCH’s “Rabid Armageddon” Out Now On Pulverised Records

Under The Church - Rabid Armageddon - promo cover pic - 2015 - #MOSNSM77733

Rabid Armageddon from old school Swedish/Icelandic Death Metallers UNDER THE CHURCH (feat. former members of NIRVANA 2002), is out now on Pulverised Records.

CD orders: http://pulverised.bigcartel.com/

Digital orders/album stream:

https://pulverised.bandcamp.com/album/rabid-armageddon

Be forewarned, the vultures are circling around this grim chapel – the Swedish old guard UNDER THE CHURCH have unearthed the latest sepulture Rabid Armageddon. Once featured as FENRIZ’s Band of the Week, UNDER THE CHURCH have truly stepped it up a notch with remarkably catchy hooks and their already recognizable corpse-decaying Death Metal stench! Rabid Armageddon is proof once again that crass-ridden and obscene Swedish Death Metal is still a winning formula and shall eternally reign supreme. Artwork and layout by Mattias Frisk (Ghost, Vanhelgd, Entrapment, Vampire, etc).

Rabid Armageddon – Track Listing:

  1. Sodomy and Blasphemy
  2. Rabid Armageddon

  7. Mangled to a Bloody Mess
  8. Penance
  9. The Trail of Cthulu

Critical Praise:

“It’s so nice to find a band still early in their discography who consistently kill it with each new release, especially when their weapon of choice is raw, unrepentant, bestial death metal of the old school.” – No Clean Singing

“Putrid and ferocious death metal in the vein of old gods like Grave, Entombed, Unleashed, etc.” – Zombie Ritual Fanzine

Under The Church - promo band pic - 2015 - #000330093MO

BIOGRAPHY:

Under The Church… Death Metal… pure and simple.

Born of the base desire to create raw and pure Death Metal, Erik Qvick and Lars Henriksson formed the band during 2012, after the final rites were administered to the reanimated corpse that was Nirvana 2002. Inspired, a series of tunes were crafted, labored and recorded. After a vocalist search, UNDER THE CHURCH settled on Australian vocalist MiK Annetts, to give voice to the primal compositions that had been conjured. The end result was ‘Demo 2013’; a three song affair that created a surge of interest in the band and their raw, filthy and ugly approach to the essence of Death Metal. Following their seven-track self-titled debut EP on Pulverised, UNDER THE CHURCH are primed and have released a firestorm of raw and bestial Death Metal called Rabid Armageddon.

SINISTER “Dark Memorials” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, rock music with tags , , , , , on October 7, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sinister - Dark Memorials - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #33MMNSS24

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall5

European Death Metal warriors, SINISTER, have released their new studio album of cover songs, Dark Memorials, this past Summer via Massacre Records. Man, this offering of Death Metal from SINISTER is a dandy! In all Metal honesty, I already have Dark Memorials reserved for a spot in Metal Odyssey’s Top Ten Metal Albums Of 2015 list. Dark Memorials destroys! There are tons of Thrash(ness) on this album to satisfy fans of the old-school style, while the raging Death Metal is nothing short of stunning. Seriously, my Metal brethren!

The cover of the Carcass classic Exhume To Consume is breathtaking, even with some flashy keyboards making a brief appearance. Yes, keyboards. From Bolt Thrower to Autopsy, with Kreator and Death in-between, this is a cover song album to hunger for! SINISTER have given these Metal classics all the Metal respect they so importantly deserve. Hell, there’s no better way to give thanks and praise to such legends of Metal, as SINISTER has done on Dark Memorials.

Sinister - promo band pic - 2015 - #MO33MNSS99799

Adrie Kloosterwaard on vocals is a Death Metal monster! Shit, what more can be said. The entire band gets my seal of Death Metal approval for their ear blistering performance on this Dark Memorials album. I have listened to Dark Memorials constantly since September and I’m never gonna stop recommending this album. Dark Memorials is one of the best cover song albums I’ve ever enjoyed in my Metal life! My favorite song on this album? All. Okay, it’s the cover of Autopsy’s Ridden With Disease. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Canadian Experimental Death Metal Band VHOD To Release Debut Album!

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, rock music with tags , , , , on September 17, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

VHOD - Dreamcleaver - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #33MNSSTO4E

After a few months in his home studio in Armstrong, BC, Chris Shaver has produced the debut full-length VHOD album, ‘Dreamcleaver’. Chris mans the helm alone, performing all the instruments and vocals and this album showcases snippets of unused  material spanning many years as well as brand new material. The release is a fair representation of VHOD’s Experimental Death Metal angle and will cement a milestone for Chris in his quarter-of-a-century musical journey thus far.

VHOD - Chris Shaver - promo pic - 2015 - #9936MNSSTO33

VHOD was conceived in January 2014 and is a merger of Godcursed (2004-2014), Morbid Darkness (1989-2014) and Worms Of The Birth (2011-2014), which were all active projects of sole member Chris Shaver at the time.  Early VHOD releases exhibited sporadic styles and were mostly instrumental pieces used as a basis for finding a more focussed signature sound. Said releases consist of 3 singles, ‘The Scornful Winter’, ‘One Fallen’ & ‘Cimmeria’ and an EP, ‘Dreams Of 11.14′, respectively, all released independently.

In December of 2014, work began on the ‘Tor’ Series, which consists of 4 parts: ‘Behind The Shroud Of Mist’, ‘Wrap Three Times’, ‘Portal’ and ‘The Desolates’, respectively. In these independent releases an evident foundation was made with which future VHOD recordings will branch out from. Dreamcleaver is set for release November 13th 2015 on Finnish label INVERSE RECORDS.

Unspeakable Axe Records Release CIST / SOLSTICE Split CD

Cist - Solstice - split CD promo cover pic - 2015 - #0939MNSS4E

Unspeakable Axe Records has released a two-song split CD from CIST and SOLSTICE. Check out the promo trailer at this location or below. Pre-orders are being taken here.

Relative newcomers, CIST hail from Russia, and their Death/Pestilence-influenced style of Death Metal makes a natural pairing with underground legends SOLSTICE, whose early albums are classics of Death/Thrash metal. This is just a 2-song split to serve as an appetizer for things to come from both bands, and it’s priced accordingly at a measly $5!

2 Song Track List:

1. Synthetic Life [Cist]
2. Eyes Sewn Shut [Solstice]

REX SHACHATH – Announce New Record ‘Revocation Of The Blood Elect’

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, news, rock music with tags , , , , on September 14, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Rex Shachath - promo band pic - 2015 - #03033MMMSS

Having laid low since the end of 2014, Northern Irish Death Metallers Rex Shachath have suddenly announced their return and are back for blood with a brand new record which will be out November 20th via Great Dane Records.

Entitled Revocation Of The Blood Elect, this new EP might not be what people are expecting if they’re familiar with the band’s debut offering Sepulchral Torment. Since that release, the band have had time to coalesce and where Sepulchral Torment had more of a ‘old school’ sound, Revocation Of The Blood Elect is an entirely new animal. Tackling social issues such as the state of modern society and man’s exorbitant desire for wealth at the expense of our natural world, the band have harnessed a sound more befitting to such issues on their forthcoming record.

Old school ideals kneaded with modern Death Metal notions on a much more up to date and punchier production is what we have here. Revocation Of The Blood Elect carries a sound as big, if not bigger, than its message.

Vocalist and lyricist Dave Connolly sums the record up with a quote from French philosopher Denis Diderot, “Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.”

Rex Shachath- Revocation Of The Blood Elect - promo album cover - 2015 - #33003MMNSS24

Artwork (as seen above), was completed by UK artist Godmachine famed for his work with bands such as Suicide Silence, Bring Me The Horizon, Cannibal Corpse and Job For A Cowboy to name a few. The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by Joe Thompson at Sonic Forge Studio, Cardiff, Wales.

Track Listing:
1. Atonement Through Atrocity
2. Impious Axiom
3. Revocation Of The Blood Elect
4. Within The Temple Of Disgust (Featuring Ben McCrow)
5. Colossus Rise

VASTUM – Cult San Francisco Death Metal Horde To Release Third LP, “Hole Below”, Via 20 Buck Spin This Fall

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on September 14, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Vastum - promo band pic - 2015 - #003339MMNSS

Through the verbose horror of their first two LPs (2011’s Carnal Law and 2013’s Patricidal Lust) San Francisco’s VASTUM sadistically carved a jagged dripping wound into an increasingly reductive American Death Metal scene. One of the most lyrically unique, creative and disturbing bands in underground Metal, now arising for their third full length album, VASTUM plumbs the depths of internalized agony and degradation farther than ever on Hole Below.

Characterized by a deeply cavernous trudge through gut churning heaviness, Hole Below both bluntly crushes and rigorously shreds to conceive fully formed grotesqueries of debased brutality. Guitarist Leila Abdul-Rauf wields her axe with the experienced slice of a masked executioner, quartering savage riffs and twisting leads alongside the thunder of guitarist Shelby Lermo. The abhorrent vocal (and lyrical) morbidity traded by imposing frontman Daniel Butler and Abdul-Rauf continues to be the most formidable combination in Death Metal. The intimidating rhythm section of bassist Luca Indrio and drummer Adam Perry steer the war machine through the pooled blood and skull fragments scattered amidst the debauched iniquity of this peculiar hell.

Three albums in, VASTUM has honed their disturbed masochism into a sound manifestly their own and true to the core of the purest darkest Death Metal. Crushingly recordead at Earhammer Studios in Oakland and mastered at Audiosiege by Brad Boatright, the art for Hole Below was created by vocalist Daniel Butler. 20 Buck Spin (also responsible for the release of the band’s prior two albums) presents Hole Below as one of the finest and best executed examples of the genre this year.

Hole Below will emerge on CD and digital formats on November 6th, with the LP to follow in December. Fans of Bolt Thrower, Grave, Death, Asphyx, Shroud Of The Heretic, Cruciamentum and the like are hereby on notice.

VASTUM will strike with new tour dates in support of Hole Below, including the band’s debut East Coast performances which are being slabbed for early November. Stand by for tour specifics in the coming days.

Hole Below – Track Listing:
1. Sodomitic Malevolence
2. Amniosis
3. In Sickness And In Death
4. Intrusions
5. Hole Below (A Dream Of Ritual Abuse)
6. Empty Breast

VASTUM:
Daniel Butler – vocals
Leila Abdul-Rauf – guitars/vocals
Shelby Lermo – guitars
Luca Indrio – bass
Adam Gailey – drums

Grave Ritual - promo band pic - 2015 - #0990MMF

Five years removed from their acclaimed debut album, the maniacs of Grave Ritual have re-emerged from the crypt with Morbid Throne. The band’s newest burnt offering delivers nine tracks of blasphemous, old-school Death Metal in the vein of Incantation, Death and Autopsy. Dark Descent Records will release Morbid Throne October 30 on CD, LP and digital formats. Cover art for the album was done by Daniel Desecrator.

Formed from the ashes of Alabama bred duo Meathole Infection in 2009, Grave Ritual’s sole purpose is to create dark and primitive Death Metal. The band’s self-titled demo was released in 2009. A year later, Dark Descent Records released Grave Ritual’s first full-length album, Euphoric Hymns from the Altar of Death. Since the release of their debut album, Grave Ritual has focused on perfecting their devastating live assaults, sharing the stage with such bands as Proclamation, Revenge, Black Witchery, and Inquisition. They have played Rites of Darkness II and III, as well as several appearances at Destroying Texas Fest. The band is now stationed in New Orleans. Grave Ritual’s highly anticipated second full-length album, Morbid Throne, is set for release in late 2015 on Dark Descent records.

ARKAIK – Progressive Death Metal Goliaths To Release Third Full-Length This October, Via Unique Leader

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on August 30, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Arkaik - Lucid Dawn - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #03039303

Record Features Guest Appearances By Members Of The Black Dahlia Murder And Bay Area String Quartet Amaranth + Fall Headlining Tour Confirmed

___________________________

Californian Progressive Death Metal outfit, ARKAIK, are set to unleash their third full-length via Unique Leader Records this Fall. Entitled Lucid Dawn, the ten-track magnum opus was engineered, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, Wrvth, All Shall Perish et al.) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, and takes ARKAIK’s multifaceted sound to an entirely new dimension, showcasing each musician’s creative potential and upping the proverbial ante of the brutality and technicality of their back catalog.

With the addition of guitarists Miguel Esparza (ex-Hatriot) and Greg Paulson as additional composers, Lucid Dawn delivers a fresh approach to the band’s sound and the entire progressive Death Metal genre. As an added bonus, the album features guest appearances from Death Metal heavy weights, Trevor Strnad and Ryan Knight of The Black Dahlia Murder, as well as Bay Area live string quartet, Amaranth.

Arkaik - Lucid Dawn - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #03039303

Lucid Dawn is the second installment in a series of concept albums revolving around Cyrix, a disillusioned character in a dystopian society. In Cyrix’s world, dreaming is systematically controlled by a tyrannical ruler named Khaal-Li-Phar and his army of dark shamans, where people are forced to build monuments to the tyrant to stifle their imaginations and inhibit their ability to achieve a multi-dimensional existence. Lucid Dawn is a death metal take on American mythologist, writer and lecturer, Joseph Campbell’s monomyth and the beginning of Cyrix’s “Hero’s Journey.” Musically and conceptually, Lucid Dawn carries the listener on a visceral exhibition through the depths of evil and beyond the threshold of mundane reality.

Lucid Dawn – Track Listing:
1. Intro
2. From The Void
3. Digital Shroud
4. That Which Lies Hidden
5. Awaken The I

PROFANITY – Powerful German Death Metal Band Has Released “Hatred Hell Within” EP On RISING NEMESIS RECORDS

Release Date – December 19th, 2014

_________________________________

The legendary German band PROFANITY, going on since 1993, have braved many trends and style-drifts and have remained more or less true to their art but have also updated their sound to remain relevant – that’s the way it should be. Evolve or die. Originally sounding comparable to say Barnes-era CANNIBAL CORPSE or the powerful style of death metal propagated by the German overlords OBSCENITY in the ’90s, PROFANITY have since wonderfully evolved, turning more technical, flashy and coining their own style.

Profanity - Hatred Hell Within - promo EP album cover pic - 2015 - LBLHFGBM0633

Every song on this EP is raging with intensity, booming with power but there’s an element of surprise where the band just takes off into a different uncharted territory and having your jaw drop to the floor. Their latest EP ‘Hatred Hell Within’ can be called old school death metal, technical death metal, brutal death metal, whichever sub-style you prefer, and you’ll still be right. PROFANITY are taking a serious effort to get noticed and are refusing to be outmoded.

They’re bringing their inherent old school might with them and knocking over the weak-sounding gimmick-ridden bands of today out of contention. A band with so many tricks under their sleeve deserve to be heard and all this while remaining true to their roots. Immensely powerful, chock-a-block with colorful variations, and still remaining more brutal and active than your local band, PROFANITY are here to stay. And conquer.

GRUESOME – Death-Saluting Metal Collective Announces Live Dates; “Savage Land” Out Now Via Relapse Records

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Gruesome - Summer 2015 - promo tour flyer - #33003MOSMNMS99

Death-saluting Metal collective, GRUESOME, will take to the streets next month on a short run of live performances. Following an appearance at Obscene Extreme America Fest in Montreal next month, the band – which features guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed), drummer Gus Rios (Malevolent Creation), guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed) and bassist Robin Mazen (Derketa) – will kick off a mini tour in September, waging their classic Schuldiner-styled odes upon the ears of Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Cave-In-Rock, San Diego and Los Angeles. See confirmed dates below.

Issues Harvey of the trek, “We’re beyond excited to finally take this beast out on the road and deliver some Schuldinerisms at full fucking volume to the folks out there. It’s gonna be a blast to see the tunes come to, ahem, ‘life’ onstage and in the pit as well. See you there – bring beer!”

GRUESOME:

9/05/2015 Churchill’s Pub – Miami, FL

9/13/2015 The Complex – Los Angeles, CA

Gruesome - Savage Land - promo album cover pic - #2015MOG0223

GRUESOME pays homage to Death Metal’s most celebrated founding American acts, Death. As such, their debut full-length, Savage Land, released earlier this year via Relapse Records, is a delightfully punishing display of late-’80s/early-’90s Florida-styled death metal that keeps the true sound and spirit of Chuck Schuldiner and Death alive.

Check out Savage Land in its gruesome entirety (including two bonus tracks – a cover of Death’s “Land Of No Return” and Slayer’s “Black Magic”) at THIS LOCATION as well as the band’s unrepentantly brutal NSFW video clip for the title track HERE or below:

Savage Land was tracked by Gus Rios and Daniel Gonzalez at Riversound Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, mixed by Jarrett Pritchard at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida, and features a guest guitar solo on “Closed Casket” by James Murphy as well as cover art by legendary illustrator Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Massacre, Athiest et el). Savage Land is out now via Relapse Records on CD, LP and all digital outlets. Physical orders are available now at THIS LOCATION, and digital orders HERE.

Critical Praise:

“…less an exercise in nostalgia than a perfect reconstruction of a lost world.” – Decibel

“This isn’t your crusty, nasty, run-of-the-mill retro Death Metal. Hell no. This is the advanced, dripping-rot-from-the-corners-of-a-coffin, putrid, vile death metal throwback that you’ve been waiting for.” – Metal Injection

“Metal needs more albums like Savage Land… The legacy and sound of Death lives on ever so faithfully through bands like GRUESOME, and wherever he is, Chuck Schuldiner is undoubtedly windmilling ferociously and smirking ear to ear at the deathly sounds of Savage Land.” – HeavyBlogIsHeavy
