MANTRUM – They’re from Germany. They’re a Metal band. They’re Metal legit. They’re unsigned. This morning, their Metal has kicked me in the face with (accepting) blunt Metal force! They’re MANTRUM. Whoa, am I psyched out that I discovered this MANTRUM band (or make that they discovered me first) on Twitter! That’s the way social media works in 2014 and cool Metal connections happen, more often than I can count, on these sites.
I’ve been listening to their (5 song) S/T EP over and over, the past hour/plus as I write this. MANTRUM plays some serious freaking Metal, my Metal brethren! Death Metal vocals, a ballistic rhythm section and still this band finds a way to add melodic fret work to compliment their speed and riffage. Do yourself a Metal favor right now and click that play button below! Stone would never steer you down the wrong Metal path! Metal be thy name!
In a few short weeks, Reykjavik, Iceland-based Death Metal squadron, BENEATH, will unleash the hellstorm that is their daunting sophomore full-length, The Barren Throne, once again through Unique Leader Records.
With an unrelenting fifty-three minutes of technical death metal cruelty through eleven new tracks, on The Barren Throne, BENEATH has sought to envelope melody, atmosphere and structure within its manic blastbeats and speed-picked guitars. The album evolves lyrically and conceptually around the idea of a being or entity that consumes and devours everything around it until it’s forced to consume itself. The follow-up to their Unique Leader-released 2012 debut full-length, Enslaved By Fear, the dynamic The Barren Throne is BENEATH’s first release with new vocalist, Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason, who joined the lineup in June 2013.
The album’s massive production was achieved by the Wieslawski brothers of famed Hertz Studios in Poland (Behemoth, Dead Infection, Vader, Decapitated), and the album artwork once again sanctioned to the masterful Raymond Swanland. The end result is a complex and procedural, yet dynamic album that rewards repeated listening. The Barren Throne will be released worldwide on April 29th.

Said guitarist Johann Ingi: “We are truly thrilled to be releasing our second full-length on Unique Leader Records. During the writing and recording of The Barren Throne, every single member of the band has surpassed themselves, taking the album to another level. The album is tighter, more focused and doesn´t give an inch when it comes to sheer brutality. We are inspired by many different genres of extreme music and on this record we sought to embrace this and transcend the need to adhere to the common boundaries of the technical death metal genre. This has resulted in what we feel is our most dynamic and relevant release yet.”

Formed in the winter of 2007/2008, the members of BENEATH have all been active in the Icelandic Metal scene for some years, with current and former connections to Sororicide, Changer, Atrum, Azoic and Diabolus to name a few. After making their live debut supporting The Black Dahlia Murder in January 2009 and winning the inaugural Icelandic finals for the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle they became the first Icelandic band to perform at the Wacken Open Air festival in August 2009. More festival appearances followed, amongst others Death Feast Open Air in 2010 and Neurotic Deathfest in 2011.
In February 2010, BENEATH released their debut Hollow Empty Void EP on Mordbrann Musikk which landed them a record deal with Unique Leader Records. In 2012 the band released their first full-length, Enslaved By Fear, which was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at Dug Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. In 2013, singer and founder Gisli Sigmundsson left the band and was replaced by Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason (Azoic).
That CARNIFEX album cover is atop this post for a reason. I bought this new CARNIFEX CD, Die Without Hope, on Tuesday, March 4th. It’s the only CD I’ve bought in the past two weeks. Yes, this new CARNIFEX offering scorches, blazes, burns and tears apart my Metal soul, blah, blah, blah. I highly recommend it too.

As it stands now, I do solemnly believe we live in a world that is runneth over with countless governments and Hollywood fat cats that can give two shits about the people that continue to make them filthy rich. Let the U2 bands of the world sink in the same pitiful ship of arrogant fools that bow at the altar of the billionaires club. Those bands are far too gone; they can only relate to red carpets, narcissistic thought patterns and the plastic societies that they’ve succumbed to.
With so much bullshit going on around us, all over the planet, I hereby plead for all of us Metalheads, Hell Rats, Punks, Children Of The Damned, Bottom Feeders, Classic Rockers, Underground Dwellers and Fiends to UNITE like never before!
Music is our universal language and our passion; therefore, let’s continue to get along like we have been doing and show the artificial idiots of the world how real civility is conducted! Music inspires. Music heals. Music unites. Music is a mystical force that can never be contained. Hallelujah and ring the Metal bell for peace.

With all of that said, I’d like to share with you all this very cool QUIET RIOT concert flyer for their June 13th, 2014 show:
I love QUIET RIOT and appreciate this concert flyer. For those who might be offended, I make no apologies for being a red-blooded dude who digs art. Just take a long look at the endless line of violent and smutty movies coming out of Hollywood for the last several decades and this concert flyer pales (light years) in comparison. QUIET RIOT RULES.

This USA Winter of 2014 has broken countless weather records for freezing temperatures and snow totals; with many, many death related stories due to this Winter’s wrath. To tally all these bizarre Winter records here would probably take me 24 hours of non-stop keystroking. Electric, gas and fuel bills do not lie about non-stop freezing weather. From this Winter forward, the words greenhouse affects and climate change are filthy rotten words to me… and to think I practically jumped on board that dumb-ass bus of unfounded science!
Certainly, there will forever be meteorologists, scientists and misinformed individuals that live in the mild southern regions and Tropics that cling onto the idealistic view that Mother Earth is losing her polar caps. Everyone, build a bunker!Relocate to a base on the Moon! Maybe, perhaps, they should ALL read that classic children’s book about jumping to conclusions:
Or these same champions of ozone depletion can watch the animated film:
Thank you for visiting, reading or hardly reading this post. Regardless, your visit will make the site stats increase on Metal Odyssey; resulting in my (hopefully) not being fired by my boss. Metal be thy name.

Winnipeg Death Thrash outfit, Endless Chaos, have unleashed the third and final track ‘Condemned To The Pit’ from their three song debut EP ‘Rejected Atrocity’ to complete the full FREE download for its official release today, March 4th.
“‘Condemned To The Pit’, the final track on the EP, really captures where we are going as a band. It is a real heavy and intricate two-part banger with lyrical content about being put to death and being sent to hell. We hope while the listener is listening he/she is overcome with an overwhelming sense to get in that pit and bring a little chaos of their own.” – Comments vocalist Jordan Dorge.
In addition to the EP being available digitally, limited edition vinyl (200 copies) will be released on Filth Regime Records at a later date in March.
The EP was inspired by one of the finest horror movies of all time, Re-Animator, and after sharing the stage with well-known bands such as Skeletonwitch, 3 Inches of Blood, Wretched, Aborted and Kataklysm, the band’s direction was clear to set out to carefully craft their debut EP, ‘Rejected Atrocity’.

Florida exploratory Death Metal behemoths, ORBWEAVER, recently waged audio Armageddon upon the US with a twenty-date run of live takeovers alongside fellow Sunshine State sludge slingers, Shroud Eater.
Relays guitar demoness, Sally Gates, from the van: “The ‘Wintour’ has been excellent so far. We’ve had a great response at all the shows and some very generous hospitality. A couple of highlights from the road including stopping in New Orleans in the lead up to Mardi Gras. We had a massive sci-fi-themed parade go right past the venue. There were even Dr. Who costumes and floats! We also had an archery challenge in Pensacola, New Zealand vs Colombia vs USA. Scores are still being debated…It’s great to be on the road with our good friends Shroud Eater, and the bonus of touring in the Winter is that the van still smells fresh! Thanks to everyone who’s come out to our shows so far, and hope to see the rest of you on the road!”
ORBWEAVER is currently touring in support of their cranium-crumblingStrange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon EP, released last Summer. Recorded at Miami’s Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed), on Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon, ORBWEAVER travels far beyond conventional genre realms with a kaleidoscopic fusion of psychedelia, noise, and a distorted rendering of progressive death metal. Perpetually shape-shifting between these impulsive, trance-like elements, ORBWEAVER manifests interplanetary pandemonium reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled and violently elegiac chaos.
The unsung gem continues to win the approval of adventures fans and critics alike. In a perfect 5/5 review The New Noise boasts, “ORBWEAVER have definitely blended the right mix of atmosphere with the right mix of experimental technical death metal to make a listen that is superbly solid and second to none. Whatever you want to call this stuff, I definitely hope to hear more ‘alien metal’ in the future.” Adds Metal Roos, “From the giant aliens on the EP sleeve, to the freak show, drug crazed blends of musicianship, this EP is an absolute ball-tearer…”
Sea of Tranquility, in a 4/5 rating, calls the head-scratcher of a record “big and oozing and unusual.” Quizzical listeners are encouraged to check out Palm Beach New Times’ recent interview series with Gates, guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro and bassist Jason Ledgard about their rigs, influences and obscure sonic handiwork HERE.

Irish hardcore death metal punks Coldwar have released details of their eagerly awaited fifth album ‘Panthiest’, which will be released via Candlelight Records on 28th April 2014.
The band has today confirmed the track list, which includes ‘Heart Of Darkness’ which was released for free streaming upon announcement of the band signing to Candlelight Records. Check out the track list below.
Jiminy Metal Cricket! I haven’t written a Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts post, since March of 2013! As Frank Sinatra and David Lee Roth have sung… That’s Life. By the way, That’s Life was written by DeanKay and Kelly Gordon; while originally recorded by American born Jazz singer: Marion Montgomery. There’s some non-Metal trivia for y’all. Whoa.
The Zero Tolerance magazine cover (above) has DEICIDE’s (legendary) Glen Benton staring at not just me… he’s also staring at you! One look into those eyes of Glen Benton and all I see is… METAL. Okay, someone may see, (maybe) a tad of evil. Evil is Metal. Cool. However, the glaring eyes of Glen Benton can be open for interpretation and still one Metal fact remains: those eyes of Glen Benton have undoubtedly seen it all.
I bought this December/January issue of Zero Tolerance at my nearest Barnes & Noble store, yesterday. Yes, I’m psyched. I cannot give this magazine enough Metal praise. It’s released every two months and costs $9.99 (U.S.). This mag is a UK publication and also comes with a CD of 18 songs; real songs that y’all won’t hear on American Idol.
L to R: Ghostbusters – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
Yesterday, the sad news spread across the world that the legendary Harold Ramis, a comedy filmmaker, director, writer and actor passed away. Man, have I been a lifelong fan of Harold Ramis! I have thoroughly enjoyed, time and again, every movie that Harold Ramis touched! Beginning back to my middle school/high school years, the comedy films that Harold Ramis was responsible for included Animal House (1978), Caddyshack (1980), Stripes (1981), the Ghostbusters franchise, National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Groundhog Day from 1993 and many more. An American comedy film icon, Harold Ramis shall forever be. His ability to make me laugh will forever remain and that’s a Metal fact. May Harold Ramis rest in peace.
Above: That’s the KISS frisbee I own. Pretty cool, huh? I bought it at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Yup.
Apparently, KISSwill not play in any band lineup for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. It would have been extremely cool if every available member of KISS (past and present) could perform together onstage, for one kick-ass jam medley of KISS classics. A video backdrop showing the late Eric Carr and Mark St.John during this “fantasy” performance would have been an ultimate fan experience and profound moment in Rock history. Alas, what the hell do I know? Right?
Regardless, anyone who follows KISS on a daily basis, via their Facebook and website, will surely agree that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have NOT forgotten about their past. Their roots are what made them the icons they are today and both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have openly acknowledged (via their recent press release) they want to celebrate the history of KISS. Read it by clicking the link below:

I’d like to now give a HUGE Metal plug to my local indie CD/vinyl record shop: Disc Exchange. Legendary French Death Metal band LOUDBLAST have signed with Listenable Records for the follow-up to 2011’s Frozen Moments Between Life and Death. Due out later this year, the band’s newest album will be titled Burial Ground.
A solid mix of classic and modern influences, the latest output from these Death Metal veterans dares transgressing their traditional Thrash/Death style of yore to achieve a much more malign yet as catchy sound. Burial Ground benefits from a massive production and sees the band evolving in further darker sounds while retaining the original 90s classic Death Metal roots.

BEHEMOTH – There’s no question that the tenth studio album, The Satanist, from Poland’s BEHEMOTH has made a lasting Metal impact upon the Metal masses. I see this current album/digital chart success as a telling reminder to the status-quo mainstream: that quality Metal exists and will never say die! Both the commendable Metal and artwork of The Satanist, coupled with BEHEMOTH’s (ever-growing) loyal fan base have made a profound Metal statement during this month of February.
Album chart success for an Extreme Metal band is not an example of selling-out; instead it’s an example of the Metal cream rising to the top. Hard work and dedication to one’s craft shall pay dividends; in the case of BEHEMOTH, the Metal dividends are (in my opinion) well-earned. This recent chart success for BEHEMOTH also means that their fans have spoken and spent their hard-earned money on The Satanist, while any illegal downloaders can march straight into the douche-bag posers lounge and drink stale prune juice.
The Satanist was released in North America, via Metal Blade Records on February 4th. Below you will see the chart numbers for both the U.S. and Canada. This information was posted on the BEHEMOTH! Facebook page, on February 12th. – Stone

Italian Death/Thrashers OMNIVORE have unleashed their self-titled debut album through Unspeakable Axe Records. This blood-soaked slab of old-school thrash aggression is now available at: www.unspeakableaxerecords.com.
A promo video for the song “I Hope The War Comes” is now playing below:
Like their name suggests, OMNIVORE are equal-opportunity devourers. Their raging full-length shows that they clearly consumed old Death/Thrash acts from Europe and the U.S. – think Massacra, Merciless, and Sadus – as well as the more-familiar Bay Area bands, represented here by the use of gang vocals, some melodic lead parts, and even a startlingly well-played acoustic passage. Of course, one of their biggest influences is revealed by the hidden bonus track at the end, a cover song that implores you to “Arise!”
Hailing from Varese and spawned in 2011 from the ashes of Nightmare Of Fallen, Omnivore is already a project on hold. The band’s lone album (so far at least) is going to burn down villages and consume the fleeing villagers.
Danish Death Metallers DEATH COMES PALE have officially signed to Deepsend Records for the release of their debut album, World Grave.
World Grave is Danish Death Metal, plain and simple. Expect a heavy, crushing assault as only Denmark can unleash. Thrashing riffs with melodic daggers that are sure to find their home deep within your flesh. Percussion that pounds like a beating heart ripped from the body and vocals that set an ominous tone towards a World Grave.
Northern California’s Death Metal juggernauts EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT are back with their latest slab of Progressive Technical Death Metal, Reptilian Agenda. Out now on Deepsend Records, the album has forged a whole new level of brutality for the band and sees them continue to push the beyond boundaries of Death Metal. Reptilian Agenda was mixed and mastered by Colin Davis (Vile).
The hooded hooligans of Creepsylvania, GHOUL, are bursting blood vessels to finally announce the second installment of the Weapons Of Most Destruction Tour! Set to launch this April, team GHOUL will lay waste to seven unsuspecting metropolises throughout the West Coast alongside their hardcore thrash mutant accomplices, Iron Reagan and experimental punk/hardcore rippers, Occultist.
Following their pillage, the band will spread their ghoulish delectables all over Oakland, headlining the first night of this year’s edition of Brainsqueeze Fest, which features more than a dozen iconic ear-bleeders including Municipal Waste, Final Conflict, Negative Approach, Fucked Up and Cannabis Corpse. For more info, point your browser HERE.
Proclaims GHOUL from their underground headquarters: “Loyal numbskulls, the Weapons Of Mosh Destruction Tour is rearing its ugly head again, and GHOUL is looking forward to burning your towns, raping your pets, and drinking your beer as we unmercifully bombard the West Coast of your United States on our way to the Tankcrimes Brainsqueeze in Oakland, California. In the unlikely event that you are lucky enough to survive the blitzkrieg assault of Iron Reagan and Occultist, you will be decapitated and disemboweled by GHOUL‘s razor-sharp riffs and after that, our razor-sharp razors. All survivors will be brought back to the catacombs in cages, where GHOUL will keep you alive on a cocktail of morphine and energy drinks while we carve away chunks of your flesh to devour while you watch in horror… I may have said too much. Come to the show! Nothing bad will happen to you!”

Private Judgement Day, the newest bone-breaker from Russian Death Metal slam monsters ABORTED FETUS is out now on Comatose Records.
The band’s third full-length picks up right where 2010’s Fatal Dogmatic Damage left off. Private Judgement Day explodes with violent guitar riffs, ruthless drumming, and immensely powerful guttural vocals that will expose listeners to the ravaged sounds of inhumanity and leave you with the savory after taste of murderous gore. ABORTED FETUS is Ural massive brutality!

Widespread Critical Acclaim For The Legendary Behemoth’s New Studio Album – The Satanist
_______________________________
BEHEMOTH – The legendary Nergal and Behemoth have received a quantum amount of Metal attention in recent weeks, due to the release of their tenth studio album: The Satanist. From all corners of the Metal community, the reviews for The Satanist have been pouring in, from favorable to perfect. The largely circulated Metal magazines have been featuring Nergal and Behemoth as their respective cover stories, from Terrorizer to Metal Hammer and many, many in-between.
The Satanist was released on February 4th, in both North America and in Behemoth’s home country of Poland, via Metal Blade Records. A February 3rd release date happened for Europe, via Nuclear Blast. I bought my copy of The Satanist (CD/DVD edition) at Best Buy for $9.99 (U.S.) on release day and the cover art differs from the art that has been more widely shown and marketed for the CD:
This silver cover version (above, with band logo and upside down album title) is a tremendous piece of art unto itself! Truthfully, the black band logo and upside down album title, atop the silver background, speaks for itself. This is, in my Metal opinion, a perfect example of less ismore,in the world of art.
The liner notes for the CD/DVD edition are done with graphic design elegance, featuring pages dedicated for the words of Nergal pertaining to the lyrics and development of every song, with an added overlay page of vellum for each. The loyalty that Nergal has towards Satan is very forthright, within these pages of liner notes. The DVD contains The Satanist: Oblivion – Live Barbarossa. An incredible package of liner notes, and additional artwork; simply stunning!
Denis Forkas Kostromitin is the artist for The Satanist cover (above). A Russian painter and occultist, Denis Forkas Kostromitin is world-renowned and created a brilliant, haunting and nightmarish dark work of art, in my Metal opinion. This painting even included the addedmedium of Nergal’s own blood. That is a fascinating way to become a personal part of your own artistic and spiritual vision and Nergal has done just that!
I will soon write a review for The Satanist and will (as always) be non-biased when it comes to the lyrical content based on spiritual beliefs. Metal music is an art form that I cherish, therefore my already instilled belief systems on spirituality, morality and ethics can never be swayed at this point in my Metal life. However, I’ve never been bashful to critique a bad album cover. Perhaps it’s due to my past college experience I’ve had with all of my fine art classes.
As a past student of the fine arts, I took a beating from critiques and was commended as well. With that said, I’ve always believed the Metal genre to be the crème de la crème of artistic vision when album cover and liner notes art are discussed; and The Satanist visual art is a radiant gem. Nergal, Behemoth and Denis Forkas Kostromitin should deservedly be proud about the visual side of The Satanist.
For me, the music of Metal and its corresponding visual art is what I gravitate towards; while the personal and/or theological beliefs, ideals and lyrics of any respective band falls under individual liberties and free speech. These freedoms none of us should take for granted. The Satanist raises the bar for Metal visual art, for many, many years to come. Metal be thy name. – Stone

NEAR DEATH CONDITION was spawned in Switzerland thirteen years ago and unleashed their Delusional Perception Of Reality demo in 2005. More a full-length than a mere demo, the punishing offering reaped instant praise among the Death Metal underground and earned NDC a place on Unique Leader’s reputable roster of extreme. Their first official long player, The Disembodied – In Spiritual Spheres, which Masterful Magazine commended for fusing “traditional death metal aesthetics with its more modern counterparts while retaining heaviness and dynamics throughout,” came to fruition in 2011 and grossed critical accolades from fans and media globally.
NDC has leveled stages alongside the likes of Origin, Hour Of Penance and Darkane, ravaged the third edition of the infamous Silence Festival and plan to infiltrate the masses throughout 2014. A journey into the kingdom of sickness and insanity awaits!
Evolving Towards Extinction will be released via Unique Leader Records on March 18th, 2014, with preorder opportunities and further info to be announced in the coming weeks.
