About Slayer:

The Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot wrote that the five-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.”  Their membership in “The Big Four” – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – the four bands that defined the thrash/metal genre – secures their place in music history. Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including RevolverSPIN, and Metal Hammer.  With songs that mirror the turmoil and aberrations of our society – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, chemical warfare, the hideous minds of serial killers and the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, Slayer remains crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the Mainstream.  Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in since.  The band is currently in the studio recording a new album set for an early 2015 release.

TWINGIANT – To Release New Album

Devil Down To Be Released This Winter

______________________________

Phoenix Sludge masters TWINGIANT are set to release their new album Devil Down this winter. Devil Down is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Mass Driver and was engineered and mastered by Ryan Butler (Landmine Marathon) at Arcane Digital Recording.

The band had the following to say about the new album:

“We’ll be releasing our 2nd, full-length album entitled, Devil Down, by the end of the year. We’re really happy with how it’s coming along and it’s been nothing short of awesome working with Ryan Butler (Landmine Marathon) of Arcane Digital Recording. Since Tony (guitars) joined the band last summer, our sound evolved as you would expect. We have more of a 70s/Southern Rock feel now and it’s really evident on Devil Down, more so than when we were flirting with that sound on the Sin Nombre EP. The vocals are probably the most noticeable change from the prior two releases. You can actually understand 75% of what Jarrod is saying and there are more of them now. Devil Down still has all the elements that you would expect from Twingiant, but you can definitely tell that we’ve matured and found our stride. We can’t wait to release it.”

Further details about the album, including track listing will be announced shortly.

Kiss - Love Gun - promotional album cover pic - 1977

New version of 1977 studio recording contains previously unreleased demos, live tracks, 1977 Gene Simmons interview and liner notes by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott

_______________________________

As reported on the KISS Facebook:

Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees KISS continue to celebrate their 40th anniversary with the release of a deluxe two-CD version of their 1977 platinum-plus album, Love Gun, coming out October 27, 2014 on Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). The band’s sixth studio recording, Love Gun was the first album to feature lead vocal performances from all four original band members, and has since gone on to sell more than four million copies.

The two-CD edition will include the complete re-mastered first album, featuring such classics as the title track, “Plaster Caster,” the song inspired by Cynthia Plaster Caster, the groupie famous for taking casts of rock star genitalia; “Shock Me,” written about Ace Frehley suffering an electric shock during a concert in Lakeland, Florida; “Christine Sixteen,” and “Then She Kissed Me,” the band’s cheeky, gender-switching cover of the Crystals’ 1963 hit penned by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector.

The second disc is made up of rare, never released Love Gun demos of “Plaster Caster,” “Tomorrow and Tonight” and “Much Too Soon.” The first four lines of the demo “I Know Who You Are” eventually evolved and became the song “Living In Sin” and the rest of the lyrics and music became “I Know Who You Are.” A glimpse into Paul Stanley’s creative process is demonstrated in “Love Gun (Teaching Demo)” with Stanley talking through the various chords of the song after writing the song. The next version “Love Gun (Demo)” is the complete demo performance. “Reputation,” the only previously released demo, was originally included on this year’s KISS 40 compilation.

Also included is a 1977 interview with Gene Simmons, as well as three never-available live tracks from their show at the Capitol Centre, Landover, MD from December 20, 1977, “Love Gun,” “Christine Sixteen” and “Shock Me.” The package comes with liner notes especially written by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, recently on tour with KISS.

PHANTOM 13 “Out For Blood” – An Album Of Horror Punk/Shock Rock Whoop-Ass!

5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall5

PHANTOM 13 are from Columbus, Ohio and play Horror Punk and Shock Rock that transcends the definition of an unsigned band from the underground. Instead, Phantom 13 is a band that not only plays a sensational live set of songs, they also have nailed it with their new record of Out For Blood. Phantom 13 flavors their songs with Horror lyrics, a Horror Punk/Shock Rock energy and attitude, while seasoned with a touch of Metal.

With the newest album from Phantom 13 comes a most fantastical listen into the spooky side of Rock ‘N Roll. I’ve found Out For Blood to be a euphoric 9 song, non-stop Horror Punk and Shock Rock ride! In other words, Phantom 13 makes me feel great with their Horror Punk whoop-ass and that’s what matters most.

Crank up the title track Out For Blood, below! Whoa!!

I cannot say it enough, hot damn, are all 9 songs a kick-ass sonic experience on Out For Blood! The album opener and title track sets the eerie mood and up-tempo pace of what’s to come; whether the macabre mood is subtle or obvious, Phantom 13 knows how to musically and lyrically ignite the creepy that lurks in the dark. This is an album that post-Michael Graves era Misfits fans should be clamoring for, with Sutter Cain’s eloquent and very ominous vocals. Regardless, any cold-blooded Misfits fan of any era should dig the Horror Punk grooves that Out For Blood is chock-full of.

Truth be told, I’ve found this new album from Phantom 13 to be just as good (if not better) than anything Wednesday 13 has put out. I’m very serious about that. I’ll even state that Out For Blood has an impressive notch (or two) more hefty kick in its songs than the Misfits last studio album The Devil’s Rain. Bassist Chuck Black makes certain the Horror stomp and roll tramples all in its path, throughout Out For Blood. Excellent songs all. My favorites are: Voices Of The Dead, the title track, Death Comes Calling and Demon Girl. I can state with clear certainty, that Out For Blood has become an all-time favorite album for me and will appear on the Metal Odyssey Best Of list for 2014. Metal be thy name – Stone.

ACDC - Back In Black - promo album cover pic - #1980

On October 13th, 1980 AC/DC’s Back In Black is certified platinum by the RIAA. This was the first AC/DC album to feature Brian Johnson on vocals, replacing the late Bon Scott. If you don’t own Back In Black, then hold your head down in shame.

KIss - Creatures Of The Night - promo album cover pic - #7740

On this day in 1982KISS releases their comeback studio album: Creatures Of The Night. This would be the last KISS album on the Casablanca Records label. I highly recommend this KISS album, their heaviest and finest album from the 80’s decade, in my Metal opinion. Vinnie Vincent plays guitar on this album instead of Ace Frehley. Still, to me, Space Ace looks really cool on this album cover.

Baroness - Blue Record - promo album pic - 2009 - #9902

On October 13th, 2009Blue Record, the second studio album from Baroness is released, via Relapse Records. This album is SOLID from beginning to end, in my Metal opinion. Call me bias, yet Baroness ROCKS.

BLASTFEST 2015 IS EXPANDING!

Posted in Extreme Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on October 11, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Blastfest - 2015 - promo festival flyer - norway - february

Blastfest has accepted the challenge and has delivered! It is official, Blastfest will be even bigger! With very positive results and excitement of a recent poll, the Bergen, Norway festival have decided 3 days of Metal madness wasn’t enough and have expanded the festival into a 4 day event with a total of 60 bands! That’s 4 days, 4 venues, and 60 bands! Yes. 60 BANDS! The festival is now running from Wednesday February 18th to Saturday February 21st.

And that’s not just the only announcement the festival will make today because just like the recent spate of updates the festival are keeping form and have just confirmed another 4 bands to the already exploding poster! So without further adieu, we are pleased to report the addition of true Norwegian Black Metal veterans Gehenna, British symphonic Back Metallers Hecate Enthroned, Norwegian Death Metal titans Blood Red Throne and death thrashers Wyruz!

Gehenna - promo band pic - 2014 - #10016

GEHENNA

All of our grenade prayers have been answered; the word became flesh! It’s with a shivering voice of the utmost excitement that Blastfest welcome Norwegian Black Metallers Gehenna to the lineup of 2015! These purveyors of the dark arts have long been regarded as one of the most important acts to come out of the Norwegian Black Metal scene in the 90’s. It’s therefore with great delight that the festival welcome them back to Bergen for their first ever Blastfest performance.

Hecate Enthroned - promo band pic - 2014 - #4032

HECATE ENTHRONED

Back in the 90’s a band made its way to the forefront of the Symphonic Black Metal scene alongside bands like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir, receiving praise for their ability to be both extreme in their expression as well as incorporating symphonic elements. We are of course talking about UK act Hecate Enthroned. As of today the band is still going strong, if not turning towards an ever heavier expression with their now Death Metal-infused take on the black arts. Blastfest are very pleased to have them cross the North Sea to perform live in Bergen for the very first time ever, as part of the festival!

Blood Red Throne - promo band pic - 2014 - #4499

BLOOD RED THRONE

If you were asked to name a Norwegian Death Metal band, chances are that the first name to enter into your mind would be that of Blood Red Throne. Ever since the release of their first four-track demo back in 2000, they have been a household name in death metal circles. It’s therefore with great pride that Blastfest welcome the ravenous war machine, the primitive killing machine that is Blood Red Throne into the fold. Be prepared for blood spatter and arterial lust!

Wyruz - promo band pic - 2014 - #W1320

WYRUZ

Some say Blastfest needed to add more Thrash Metal to the lineup, so they have decided to include prime Death/Thrash act Wyruz! These guys have been going strong for over a decade now, and are dead set on destroying everything at Blastfest 2015.
