The band have also announced their first tour dates: a four-date west coast run this July with stops in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and San Francisco:

July 10 – San Diego, CA @ Belly Up Tavern

July 11 – Santa Ana CA @ The Observatory

July 12 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Troubadour —– SOLD OUT

July 13 – San Francisco, CA @ Slim’s

Palms came together following the demise of ISIS, with Jeff Caxide (bass), Aaron Harris, (drums) and Clifford Meyer (keyboards/guitar) electing to continue playing music together.  “After a little time Jeff, Cliff, and I decided that it was insane that we all still lived here in Los Angeles and weren’t playing together,” Harris says. “It just sort of happened naturally, probably because we have been playing together for so long, and things started to come together. But we didn’t want to be instrumental: We wanted vocals. We just weren’t exactly sure who that would be at first.”  The band, knowing that Chino Moreno (Deftones) had been a fan of ISIS, thought he would be a great fit and he agreed.  “A chance to work with the guys from ISIS sounded like a lot of fun,” Moreno says, “I’ve always been into the atmospheric sounds they had created with that project and felt my sense of melody would meld well with theirs.”

IMPERIA – BAND BIO:

IMPERIA is an atmospheric Metal band whose sound is as artistic, distinguished and remarkable as the pure and passionate voice of it’s vocalist Helena Iren Michaelsen who sings in a variety of operatic styles which portray deep emotional feelings to extreme and vivid operatic expressions.

The music is full of artistic expression, it is heavy, hard-hitting and orchestral, but it also contains elements of pure Metal. The band is a true cross-border unit of musicians originating from different countries: Norway, Finland, Germany and Belgium. Through hard work and extensive touring the band has earned its reputation as a powerful live act.

In the summer of 2004 IMPERIA played their first gigs and also recorded their debut album “The Ancient Dance of Qetesh”. The album received rave reviews and it even made it to album of the month in Belgium and in Spain.

The band teamed up with Massacre Records and released the second album “Queen Of Light” in 2007, which contained a mixture of power metal tracks, prog metal stories and some of the most beautiful and delicade ballads in Metal.

During 2009 and 2010 IMPERIA wrote songs for their third full-length “Secret Passion” which was once again released via Massacre Records in March 2011.

TRILLION RED – two tongues ep: Take A Dark Descent Into An Ambient Metal Abyss

Posted in ambient music, avant-garde music, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 21, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

TRILLION RED – Comprised of 4 songs, this Trillion Red (debut self-released) two tongues ep combines all the dark ambience, progressiveness and flirtations with Extreme Metal that this Metalhead could wish for. The duo of Patrick Brown (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards) and Max Woodside (drums) from San Francisco, have formulated quite an exquisite Metal sound and style that is as sinister as it is ambient.

While I listened to these songs the first several times, I let my Metal mind journey afar to experience where it would go. I kept envisioning a trek to the center of the Earth, just a few blocks from the gates of Hell itself, discovering what Metal would sound like when it’s created there. I’m not kidding around. Music is supposed to take you places, so if my Metal minds eye has me trotting about somewhere in Middle Earth due to Trillion Red’s dark wall of Metal sound, so be it. Metal be thy name.

As a Metal bonus, there are Metal genres that scream out through the songs on two tongues ep: Stoner and Doom chugging make it’s presence heard on Lullaby. Creepy and atmospherically macabre, Lullaby is not to be confused for a song that let’s the sun shine in while sugar plums dance in your head. The opening track No Visible Help (Hold Tight!) is carried by thumping Metal bass grooves and retrospective guitar tones and riffs that should make Tony Iommi proud. Patrick’s intro vocals on this song indicates to me, an admirable taste for Black Metal.

Forging Two Tongues / A Reckoning has Patrick summoning up the spirit of Jim Morrison in his vocal tone, with a poetic vibe in his calmer verses. Oh, can Patrick switch vocal gears however, giving this song it’s maniacal beauty with his Extreme vocal range. The coda of this song only solidifies my feelings of being a few blocks from the gates of Hell too… whoa.

Right Over To The Helm begins innocently enough with a slow tempo of Stoner fused with psychedelic sound, while Patrick takes a deliberate and eloquent approach to singing, with a near spoken word. At nearly the mid-point, the tempo picks up quickly and shades of psychedelia smothered in Metallic froth boils over. Trillion Red is not delivering the same old here, they are delivering an ambient horn of plenty and I’m listening. Hell yeah I am.

Musically as a whole, Patrick displays his keen talents of being a multi-instrumentalist, while Max is downright good and very cool to take in on drums. A “less is more” style to Max’s drumming fits right into these songs. Songwriting is a plus here, while the layering of all 4 songs gives this ep it’s intriguing delight. Trillion Red have created songs to be digested thoroughly, then savored and reached for again… and again.

With bands that Patrick has looked up to, such as Triptykon/Celtic Frost to Pink Floyd, with Old School Swedish Death Metal, YES, Miles Davis and George Carlin in-between, it is no wonder he has such a savvy grasp on the music he’s created and played on this two tongues ep.

German atmospheric Progressive Metal collective and Metal Blade Recording artists, THE OCEAN,  today kick off a month-long North American tour! The band will perform three headlining shows beginning tonight at Jaxx in Springfield, VA before joining “The Hypersleep Dialogues Trek, ” with headliners Between The Buried And Me, Job For A Cowboy and Cephalic Carnage on select dates. Presented by Peter Says Denim, in association with Guitar World & MetalSucks.net, “The Hypersleep Dialogues Trek”will begin in Farmingdale, New York at The Crazy Donkey, include a stop at this year’s New England Metal And Hardcore fest in Worcester, Massachusetts and hit over two dozen cities before making a final stop in Ashville, North Carolina at The Orange Peel.

Said guitarist Robin Staps of the tour: “We’re excited to be back in the U.S. It’s been three years since our last tour over here with Kylesa, Intronaut, Lair Of The Minotaur and Withered. We’ve been wanting to come back ever since, but it’s just so difficult for a European band to work out tour logistics and working visas are really expensive for us… But we finally made it! Looking forward to these three upcoming headlining shows where we’re gonna play full 90-minute sets, and I’m sure the BTBAM tour afterwards will be equally great, though shorter set times for us. Looking forward to see you all out there somewhere!”

This mammoth conceptual effort took almost two years to complete. From a lyrical and artistic point of view, the albums represent a fundamental and philosophical critique of Christianity. Both albums scored rave reviews worldwide, including Album Of The Month in Metal Hammer Germany, Italy and Greece, and a cover feature in the December issue of Metal Hammer UK’s/Subterranea (their Extreme Metal supplement).
