Revered metal publishing house Cult Never Dies will release a brand new book about the Finnish black metal band Moonsorrow on 30 September 2025. Entitled “Home of the Waves: Conversations with Moonsorrow” and written by devoted Moonsorrow fanatic Grilo do Demo(the person behind the Unofficial Moonsorrow Biography, the Epic Heathen Podcast, and the Verisivut Moonsorrow Fanzine), this exhaustive hardback offers an unparalleled and candid look at one of the most respected and influential pagan metal bands.

The book covers the band’s history, from the founders’ childhood through their early demo period, gradual line-up additions, increasing touring activity, and their extensive discography. It is built around exclusive and in-depth interviews with all band members: Ville SorvaliHenri SorvaliMarko TarvonenMitja HarvilahtiJanne Perttilä, and what is believed to be the only interview with Markus Eurén. The book explores Moonsorrow’s history, lyrical and visual themes, composition process, ideological background, technical details, and much more.

Home of the Waves: Conversations with Moonsorrow” is the culmination of a two-week immersive project where author Grilo do Demo and visual storyteller Leo Aragón, along with a dedicated team, interviewed the band daily, multiple times a day, across Finland. Originally intended for a documentary, this book utilises all 13 days of filmed interviews, providing behind-the-scenes narrations of the project’s execution, the team’s collaboration with Moonsorrow, and the significance of the locations visited.

The book’s author Grilo do Demo said: “I’m tremendously excited to finally see this material become public. The documentary will surely be amazing, but that will be, what? 2 hours long? Well, that’s why this book has a huge value on its own – we have 20+ hours of interview footage, and ALL of it is contained here, carefully transcribed from the first to the last word. This book offers a new look into how Moonsorrow’s music is created, from the initial concept to the final mastering, and even how colour codes are involved in their composition! You’ll discover how the band formed, the founders’ other early projects, and pivotal moments like the shift from Kivenkantaja to Verisäkeet. There are so many stories, from the tragicomedy behind the Kivenkantaja runestone to why they almost became a grindcore band (or at least they claimed so) – and even a glimpse into Mitja’s outdoor adventures. I can’t wait for it to be available for all Moonsorrow fans out there after all these years. Preorder it now, September is around the corner!”

Dayal Patterson, Cult Never Dies founder and longtime music journalist, said: “Moonsorrow are an exceptional band, and in many ways a unique and influential one, so we are more than proud to be releasing such an in-depth book about this Finnish institution. The author has done a great job of telling the band’s story, and the musicians featured are notably candid at times during the interviews.

“Home of the Waves: Conversations with Moonsorrow” is a substantial 388-page hardback, featuring a 24-page colour photo gallery and a total of 150 images, most of which have never been seen before.

JUST BEYOND THE LIGHT: Making Peace with the Wars Inside Our Head cover

JUST BEYOND THE LIGHT: Making Peace With The Wars Inside Our Head – Arrives on February 18, 2025

NEW YORK – Oct. 10, 2024 – Grand Central Publishing (GCP) is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of JUST BEYOND THE LIGHT: Making Peace with the Wars Inside Our Head by D. Randall (Randy) Blythe, which is scheduled for publication on February 18, 2025.

In his gripping, bestselling debut memoir Dark Days, Lamb of God vocalist D. Randall (Randy) Blythe unflinchingly wrote about some of the most harrowing episodes of his past.

Now, in his highly anticipated follow-up “Just Beyond the Light,” Blythe shares how he works daily to maintain positivity in a world that feels like it is spinning out of control. In his own words, “Just Beyond the Light” is a “tight, concise roadmap of how I have attempted to maintain what I believe to be a proper perspective in life, even during difficult times.”

Written with a scathing balance of hard-edged reality offset by a knowing humor and a razor-sharp wit, voiced in in his inimitable, conversational, everyman-philosopher style, Blythe clearly breaks down his approach to life, which is a personal and idiosyncratic mix of sobriety, art, and surfing.

He writes movingly of his childhood in the South, of fallen friends, of what he’s learned touring the world as the vocalist of a successful heavy metal band, and of the very real ways he is doing what he can to leave the world a better place. Above all, he offers readers hope that balance, real balance, is possible, even (or especially) when things seem hopeless.

Compelling, compassionate, and refreshingly honest, “Just Beyond the Light” ultimately reminds readers that “as long as we keep our feet (and minds) planted firmly on the ground that is reality, the sky isn’t falling— it never has been, and it never will.”

“For me, the single most gratifying aspect of being an artist is learning that your work has been useful to others in some way. I’ve been told by lots of readers that my last book, ‘Dark Days,’ helped them – I hope ‘Just Beyond the Light’ does the same,” says Randy Blythe, about this highly anticipated follow-up memoir.

“In chaotic times, Randy’s outlook is a bulwark against despair. His perspective is hard-earned, and ‘Just Beyond the Light’ reminds us that we can all work daily to achieve balance in our lives and strive to implement it in the world,” says Ben Schafer, Executive Editor, Grand Central Publishing.

D. Randall Blythe is a writer, photographer, actor, and musician best known for fronting the metal band Lamb of God. He is also the author of ‘Dark Days.’ He lives in Richmond, Va.

About Mike Hrubovcak:

Mike Hrubovcak is an American illustrator who lives and breathes metal. Although highly versatile in creating a broad array of fantasy and horror-themed visuals, he has become best known for his extremely graphic and gore-laden death metal album covers.

Introduced to metal at a young age, Hrubovcak began his album cover ventures in 1993, drawing the demo covers for his high school death metal band Disillusion. This was also the jump-start of his extensive vocal career, which was later spring boarded by the formation of the band Divine Rapture with his brother J.J. Hrubovcak (now in Hate Eternal). While creating artwork for his band, Hrubovcak also did pen and ink, airbrush, and oil paintings for other bands and fanzines.

Hrubovcak’s vocal and musical career also flourished over the years, featuring on many records and touring for the bands Divine Rapture, Azure Emote, I.C.E, Vile, Hypoxia, and the early ‘90s Tampa death metal legends, Monstrosity.

Hrubovcak has created art for Relapse Records, Century Media Records, Revolver Magazine, Headbangers Ball, The Party.San, Maryland Death Fests, Hate Eternal, Sinister, Grave, Mortician, Decrepit Birth, Cattle Decapitation, InHume, Pathology, Guttural Secrete, Avulsed, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Cephalotripsy, and many others. He also had a monthly feature called Nightmare Visions on MTV’s Headbangers Ball Blog (taking over for the discontinuation of Paul Booth’s weekly art posts).

Hrubovcak’s artwork even branched into illustrating B-movie DVD covers and being used as background set dressing for a Universal Pictures feature film and has been displayed in many art galleries and featured in collective art books worldwide.
