01 – Back on September 28th, 1954, the legendary George Lynch was born! Happy Metal Birthday, George Lynch! This amazing guitarist was instrumental in Dokken’s skyrocketing to the top during the 80’s, with his legendary signature guitar tones and screaming solos, George Lynch gave this band an identity that has proved to be irreplaceable. During his post-Dokken years, George Lynch has worked tirelessly on a boastful Heavy Music career with his bands Lynch Mob, Souls Of We, T & N and most currently KXM.

ACDC - Classic Band Logo - #10014

As reported on The Official AC/DC Site:

02 – 23 years ago on September 28th 1991, AC/DC headlined a “Monsters Of Rock” festival at Tushino Airfield in Moscow, Russia. The show unofficially became part of the “Monsters Of Rock” European tour that was taking place since the later part of August.

Just one month earlier, there was a failed coup consisting of members of the Soviet Union’s government attempt to take control from the Soviet President. The concert was assembled to take place in Moscow’s Tushino Airfield as a thank you from the Russian government, offering free admission to concert attendees. AC/DC were invited to perform just three days prior to the concert date.

The crowd in attendance is one of the largest in concert history, and certainly the largest in “Monsters Of Rock” festival history, at an incredible estimated 1.6 million. Other bands that performed that day include Metallica, The Black Crowes, Pantera, and E.S.T..

01 – One of the saddest days in all of music history was on this day, back in 1986. Metallica Bassist, Cliff Burton, passed away at the very young age of 24, from injuries sustained during the band’s tour bus rolling over, on a rural stretch of road in Sweden. Cliff Burton had so much more life ahead of him. I am forever thankful that I was able to witness Cliff Burton perform, live onstage. God Bless Cliff Burton and his family.

Metalica - Death Magnetic - promo cover pic - large size - #21132

02 – On a happier Metallica note, the band’s ninth studio album, Death Magnetic, was sitting at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, back on September 27th, 2008. I dig this Metallica album, only I wish it wasn’t so damn super polished. At least Metallica returned to what they were supposed to do in the first place and that’s to play Thrash.

03 – In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, back on September 27th, 1943, a future legend of Hard Rock was born: Randy Bachman. Happy Rockin’ Birthday, Randy Bachman! No, Randy Bachman is not a Metal musician; only his contributions to pioneering Hard Rock makes him Metal to me. As a founding member of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, (both Winnipeg bands), the Classic Hard Rock blueprints of Randy Bachman are what the roots of Heavy Music are all about.

Randy Bachman continues to perform to this day; his latest release on both CD and DVD is shown below:

As reported on The Official AC/DC Website:

Rock or Bust, the highly anticipated new studio album from AC/DC, will be released December 2, 2014. Featuring 11 new tracks and recorded in Spring 2014 at Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC, ‘Rock or Bust’ finds AC/DC once again working with producer Brendan O’Brien and mixer Mike Fraser.

“Rock or Bust” is the first AC/DC album in the band’s 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings. Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on ‘Rock or Bust’ and will accompany the band on tour.

Jeff Labar - One For The Road - Billboard Charts - promo flyer-2014

Jeff LaBar’s solo debut album, One For The Road, was released back on August 26th, via Rat Pak Records. This is one Hard Rock CD I picked up on its release date and I cannot get enough of it in my system! One For The Road demonstrates the vocal, musical and songwriting talents of Jeff LaBar; from heavy hitting songs as No Strings, Asking For A Beating, One For The Road and Nightmare On My Street to the mellow acoustic instrumentals of Muse and Ode To Page. Hello Or Goodbye is a mid-tempo track, one that is musically and lyrically one of my favorite of favorites on this terrific album. Whoa!

This debut from Jeff LaBar is chock-full of Hard Rock relevance and loaded with juicy slices of how admirable Classic Rock sounds when recorded in present day! The guitar tones of Jeff LaBar are clear as day and darn fun to absorb! Jeff LaBar plays all guitars and bass, with an all-star cast of guest drummers. Cinderella fans rejoice! Classic Rock, 80’s Arena and Hard Rock fans of any generation should dig what Jeff LaBar has created on his debut. I sure have!

I declare this Jeff LaBar debut as A MUST BUY! Jeff LaBar has done good… real good… so good that his debut album landed in the Billboard charts on September 4th! Metal be thy name! Here is the Rockin’ roll-call:

* #130 Billboard Top 200

Dear Friends,

There is no way to explain the loss of my brother “Jamo.” Over the years we developed a deep friendship. My heart is heavy with sadness as I struggle to express the pain, suffering and deep loss. Though I rest assured that Jim is in the best of places, it still provides little comfort for those of us left behind. His voice was magic and he had a loving heart. I called him “Golden Throat” and for good reason. Jim Jamison had a voice we will never forget. It was massive and huge and yet sweet and gentle. He was a loving soul and a brother to me in many ways. I will miss him greatly.

Peace,
FS

LIMITED EDITION 7-INCH SINGLE AVAILABLE VIA RECORD STORE DAY’S BLACK FRIDAY EVENT

BILL GOULD SPEAKS WITH ROLLING STONE

_________________________________

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2, 2014 – Faith No More, who reunited in 2009 for a series of sold out performances and international festivals, is currently recording their first full-length album since 1997’s Album of the Year.

A limited edition (5000 copies) 7-inch single of the song “Motherfucker” will precede the April 2015 release, available via Record Store Day’s Black Friday event (Nov. 28).  The single will be released digitally on Dec. 9.

“We’ve always shared a chemistry between ourselves that’s unique to this band, but these past few years of touring together have made us aware that we not only play better as a unit, but we like the new stuff we’re coming up with,” explained Faith No More founder and bass player, Bill Gould, who also spoke with Rolling Stone in more detail:(http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/faith-no-more-to-release-first-album-in-18-years-plot-u-s-tour-20140902). “So we’ve decided: we’re going to get busy in 2015…make an album we’re proud of, kick things up a notch, get out there and perform it and maybe even dedicate a little more focus to our fans in the States this time.”

The as-of-yet untitled album is being recorded in an Oakland, Calif. studio with Gould handling production. The release will be the first from Faith No More’s newly formed imprint, Reclamation Recordings, which will be distributed by Ipecac Recordings.

Prior to the new album’s release, Faith No More will headline Australia’s Soundwave Festival in February 2015.  Worldwide tour dates will be announced soon.

Faith No More is Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards), Bill Gould (bass), Jon Hudson (guitar) and Mike Patton (vocals).
