Blackened Death Metal Storytellers AOIDOS Present “Trauma” With Video, Ahead Of Forthcoming Album: Oizys

Posted in Black Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , , on October 30, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Blackened death metal quintet AOIDOS carve out a fusion of haunting melodies and atmospheres from the realms of black metal in conjunction with the power and groove of death. Storytelling is core to the band, whose name AOIDOS means bard in Ancient Greek. Light your fire, pour yourself a drink and prepare for dark and shadowy tales as the band present their new offering, “Trauma”. The single is the first to emerge ahead of the forthcoming album Oizys that is set for release on November 29th, 2024, via Nox Liberatio Records. Watch “Trauma” HERE

Dynamically, AOIDOS sculpt a thrilling soundscape across “Trauma” which encounters high intensity with brief moments that are almost serene. Delicate piano melodies enthrall among the weight of the heavy instrumentation. “Trauma” includes lyrics in the band’s native language – Portuguese. “The chorus is totally in Portuguese”, the band explain, “and it sings the plea of ‘Trauma’, a force that sees itself not as an oppressor, but as a protector, a shield between the victim and the true extent of the tragedies they went through.”

About AOIDOS:
AOIDOS came to be following a night of mead at the iconic Taberna 58, in Coimbra, Portugal, in 2019. Inspired by storytelling and the Aoidos, who were the bards and minstrels of Ancient Greece, the band bring this element into their heavy and ambient style.

Influenced musically by the likes of GOJIRA, BEHEMOTH and WATAIN, alongside classical piano compositions, AOIDOS strive to create a rich and textural soundscape that embraces the fierce energy of death and ethereality of black metal. To date, the band have taken to stages around South West Europe, including festival appearances at Bajonca Rock Fest, Rock dos Romanos, Mosher Fest, Melena Fest.

Most recently, AOIDOS shared the bill with VADER, SEPTICFLESH and MOONSPELL at Laurus Nobilis Music Festival 2024. With a number of single releases behind them, AOIDOS are now set to unveil their debut album Oizys this November.

Pre-orders + single are live now

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions are set to release the debut full length album from filthy, vicious Canadian Death Metal destroyers Immortal ForceMystic Seance Unrealities is up now for pre-order and will be released November 22nd on CD and Digital formats along with merch.

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions welcome Immortal Force with their debut album Mystic Seance Unrealities! Hailing from Western Canada, this four-piece Death Metal band worships the old analog metal sound, the filthiest horror flicks of the ’80s, and anything bizarre, absurd, and menacing! On Mystic Seance Unrealities, these Canadian freaks forego false trends and instead create something timeless, as seen through an otherworldly lens, with themes such as heinous crimes committed without method; dissecting the prophesied departure from life; propagation of extraterrestrial lifeforms; life manifested and subsequently uncreated.

Mystic Seance Unrealities takes listeners through ten devilish tracks of obscure Thrashing Death Metal steeped in abstract ideas & peculiar affairs and features artwork by Paolo Girardi (Power Trip, Revocation, The Black Dahlia Murder). Immortal Force also unleashes two covers, one by the mighty Napalm Death and one by gore masters Carcass.

For congregants of all that’s unknown and macabre, Immortal Force‘s debut is a MUST-listen for fans of Master, Nunslaughter, Pestilence, Demilich, Impetigo, Mortician, Deicide, Timeghoul and all late 80’s/early 90’s EVIL!!

Dallas Toler-Wade comments on the track:

“For me, Barbarian is a prime example of me doing the thing I love and that defines me the most. Continuously striving to improve my craft as a musician and a songwriter. But also the overall message of this song. Live!! Be free!! Find your own path!!! Question everything!!! And also we don’t need politicians or religion to shape our moral centers. In fact, It seems they distort the truth every chance they get. This whole album cycle has seemed to have this recurring theme about the narcissistic oligarchy that we have all fallen victim to. I Dallas Toler, Wade the barbarian, will fight this mockery until I leave the land of the living, and even after that, my powerful voice will echo through the halls of time!! SARCOPHAGUM – Australian Death Metal Act To Unveil Cinematic Debut LP Via Nuclear Winter Records

Australia’s SARCOPHAGUM will release their debut full-length, The Grand Arc of Madness, on December 6th, 2024 through Nuclear Winter Records.

The album track “Feudal Futures” is now streaming at THIS LOCATION.

SARCOPHAGUM spawned to life in the early half of 2021, during the time of the plague as a new project featuring Golgothan Remains members past and present. The purpose being to provide a channel to explore new ideas and sounds in a studio-only setting.

The dark death metal realm remains the primary influence and a debut EP, Conduits to the Underworld, was released in 2022 through Nuclear Winter Records, followed swiftly by a stand alone single, “This Wrought Creation”. Now their full length debut is here, The Grand Arc of Madness. Poised to unleash a soundscape of disharmony and terror over the listener, the angular horror awaits…

Both a culmination of their already characteristic aesthetic and a whole new twist upon it, The Grand Arc of Madness sees SARCOPHAGUM fusing clanging angularity with haunting atmospherics, chaos with eerie melodicism, epic narrative with primal crush.

Mixed and mastered by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios.

Cover art by Khaos Diktator.

MEMBRANCE – Italian Death Metallers To Release New EP: Undead Remains

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , on September 24, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Today, Venice death metallers MEMBRANCE announce the release of their new EP Undead Remains out October 11th. With the announcement, the Italian band drops the first single “Corpse For Sale”, alongside a music video. Watch it HERE.

The band commented: “’Corpse For Sale’ is a metaphor of Venice seen as an abandoned corpse adrift, continuously stripped and plundered both by the worms that infest the city (Venetian people willing to sell it off to make money) and by those passing beasts (tourists) who just snatch a filthy morsel before leaving. A carcass that everyone is willing to see before it finally rots away”.

On the EP, MEMBRANCE say:“Undead Remains showcases what’s left from the sessions of our last album Undead Island; these are older and slightly more experimental tracks that the band was still working on during the recording of the full-length. For this reason they were not included in the album, as we wanted to give them more exposure in a subsequent release.

In addition to ‘Corpse For Sale’, among the new tracks with a more experimental style there is ‘Vengeance’s Price’, which features Sara Tacchetto, singer of Vallorch, on vocals. This song is inspired by Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice. Each verse is an act with a different character. The collaboration with Sara was born by entrusting her with two acts in which the protagonist is a woman.

To close this release, we have included a cover that is very dear to us, both for the themes covered and for its impact in the live setting, and a couple of live recordings of our most ferocious and punishing songs.
The artwork was painted by Francesco Cagali in the style of his previous work for us, while the mastering of the EP was handled by Luca Cocconi of Audiocore Studio, precisely to link these songs with the latest full-length Undead Island”.

Tracklist:

  1. Corpse for Sale
  2. Vengeance’s Price
  3. Territory (Sepultura cover)
  4. Acid Satanism (Live)
  5. Tarantula (Live)

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Unleashes Animated Video For “Mammoth’s Hand” – Servitude To See Release September 27th On Metal Blade Records

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on August 7, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

“Mammoth’s Hand” is the latest single from THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. The track comes by way of the band’s upcoming tenth studio album, Servitude, set for release on September 27th via Metal Blade Records.

“Mammoth’s Hand” is partly inspired by a scene from Don Coscarelli’s 1982 swords ‘n’ sorcery epic, The Beastmaster. “We usually like to give some idea of what kind of diversity is gonna be on the album with the first two tracks we release,” vocalist Brian Eschbach offers. “[Guitarist] Ryan Knight wrote the music for this, and the slow rhythm made me think of these barbaric warriors riding mammoths out in the snow or that scene from The Beastmaster when the Jun horde takes the village.”

Eschbach further elaborates, “‘Mammoth’s Hand’ is a romp through a fictitious frozen tundra in which a clan of nomadic mammoth riding cannibals conquer villages in a time devoid of technology. The slow groove of this song is a vibe not often implemented by the group but immediately inspired a vision in my mind of a slow moving yet gigantic and powerful beast of antagonistic nature.”

Watch THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’s video for “Mammoth’s Hand,” created by Marco Pavone, at THIS LOCATION.

Servitude will be released on digipak CD, cassette, and digital formats. Find preorders at: metalblade.com/tbdm.

ANCIENT ENTITIES – Unleashes Debut Tech Death Album: Echoes of Annihilation

L-R – Live Lineup – Luke Veranth – Bass, Bernardo Mendia – Drums, Brian Gulliford – Vocals, Alex Rausa – Guitar, Jake Falk – Guitar

Debut Album Out On WormHoleDeath Records

Ancient Entities, coming from Milwaukee, USA, are pleased to announce the release of their debut album Echoes Of Annihilation on WormHolDeath Records. The nine-track album is a mythical sonic odyssey with each song offering a unique glimpse into the past. From the burning of Rome in “Empire In Ashes” to the creation of the human race in “Creatures Of the Sand”Ancient Entities masterfully capture the essence of ancient history through sound. They comment on the recording process:

“The album took 6 months to produce, mix, and master. The legendary Wjotec Wieslawski from Hertz Recording made sure we got our best work on track and did not compromise when it came to making a perfect album. We recorded here in the States at multiple studios and Hertz mixed and mastered the album. We wanted to work with Wjotec ‘cause he produced some of our favorite bands growing up such as Behemoth, Decapitated, and Hate. In our opinion, he helped create a masterpiece of an album and we hope everyone else thinks so too.”

The album artwork was made by Burns who handles most of the artwork for the band. It combines different pyramids that are cinematic, but still very obvious that this is a death metal; album. Listeners who dig into the album will find there is a refreshing mix of styles of death metal – modern, old school, and some sounds in between genres. Over the last two years of playing and testing out local markets, Ancient Entities is confident that their massive sound will be well received by all fans of metal old and new. They are recommended listening for fans of Blood Red Throne, Nile, and Aeon.

CASKET ROBBERY – Launch Video for “The Lacryphagist”

Posted in Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , on June 19, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Midwest death machine CASKET ROBBERY has posted the official music video for their newest single, “The Lacryphagist.” The song marks the band’s first new material since their 2022 album, Rituals of Death.

Vocalist Megan OrvoldScheider comments on the song, “I had so much fun writing for ‘The Lacryphagist’. When we decided it was finally time to sit down and begin writing for the next release, we came up with a really awesome concept and this is a really cool piece of the puzzle. Initially, I got inspired by the stories of Victorian tear vials and I loved the idea of this creature that feeds off of human tears and collects them in various states of emotion. We were able to put in some really grotesque imagery into both the lyrics and the video we shot. I think this single shows our natural next progression as a band and our writing; lyrically getting darker while staying true to our tongue-in-cheek horror vibes that we have so much fun with. We cannot wait to hear what you all think of ‘The Lacryphagist.’”

BLOODBATH’S ‘GRAND MORBID FUNERAL’ Special Tenth Anniversary Edition Presented On Limited Marble Vinyl, Out June 14TH

THE FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM OF SUPREME DEATH METAL FROM SWEDEN’S MASTERS OF HORROR

“Apart from being really sinister, cruel and dark, Grand Morbid Funeral was also the album that kicked Bloodbath into a higher gear. The hunger and determination behind it, made us go from a rather passive side/studio-project to a real active live band, for the first time.” – Blakkheim

Swedish death metal titans Bloodbath’s fourth studio album ‘Grand Morbid Funeral’ turns 10 this year. To mark the anniversary, Peaceville will be reissuing the album on limited edition silver/black marble-effect vinyl. Recorded at Ghost Ward Studios and the City of Glass Studios in Stockholm and mixed by David Castillo, ‘Grand Morbid Funeral’, was undoubtedly the band’s darkest and dirtiest opus upon its release in 2014; an organic collection of filth-ridden tracks straight from the grave, boldly eschewing the approach of somewhat over-produced modern death metal in favour of something altogether more rotten to the bone.

“When A class songwriting meets supreme death metal played by and for fans, don’t even try to resist”

METAL HAMMER

“Bloodbath have perhaps never sounded quite so sinister as they hammer, bash, kick and spit at anyone getting too close to the aural war they declare from the outset

Formed in 1998 with a mutual fascination for horror & the glory days of death metal (especially the old Florida & Stockholm ‘Sunlight’ scenes), the band has remained a leading light of extreme metal since their ‘Breeding Death‘ EP was unleashed back in 2000, and a formidable force in the metal world for over twenty-five years, notable for the inclusion of KatatoniaOpeth and Paradise Lost members.

With doom-like melodies mixed with raw and savage riffing, and featuring a number of guest appearances including Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler from US gore-masters Autopsy, ‘Grand Morbid Funeral’ marked a new high-point of brutality for Bloodbath.

SOILWORK’s Björn “Speed” Strid to Feature on New APOCRYPHAL Album

Apocryphal sign to The Circle Music for the release of their first album since 1999’s “Black Dreams of Silence”

Melodic death metal outfit Apocryphal have signed to The Circle Music for the release of their new album, and their first since the 1999 debut Black Dreams of Silence. The new album will feature the powerhouse vocals of Soilwork‘s legendary frontman, Björn “Speed” Strid.

After crafting ten tracks of pure melodic death metal mayhem, Apocryphal knew they needed the perfect voice to bring their vision to life. Enter Björn “Speed” Strid, whose aggressive yet melodic delivery has cemented him as one of the genre’s most respected vocalists.

“All we needed was a singer to complete the line-up and take this LP to another level,” says the band. “Finally, the mighty Björn “Speed” Strid completed the line-up and recorded the vocals for the upcoming album.

The album is now ready, boasting stunning cover artwork by Valnoir of Metastazis and mastered at Skull Tone Studios by Nino Helfric.

The band said: “Our new album may come as a surprise to those who know us, but all the ingredients that make us unique are there. Perhaps less atmospheric, but more effective, the mix of melody and aggression will make every song stick in your head from the first time you listen to it.”

“We are convinced that our decision is the best one to spread our next LP worldwide,” added Apocryphal. “The Circle Music is the perfect record label for our new start.”

Formed in 1992 as Post At Funerals, Apocryphal found their current name and sound by 1994.  Their early releases, including the 1995 demo From Depths, showcased their blend of death metal, atmospheric, and progressive influences. After a period of inactivity following the release of their 1999 album Black Dreams Of Silence, the band reformed in 2022 and their new album is set for release in 2024.

About Mike Hrubovcak:

Mike Hrubovcak is an American illustrator who lives and breathes metal. Although highly versatile in creating a broad array of fantasy and horror-themed visuals, he has become best known for his extremely graphic and gore-laden death metal album covers.

Introduced to metal at a young age, Hrubovcak began his album cover ventures in 1993, drawing the demo covers for his high school death metal band Disillusion. This was also the jump-start of his extensive vocal career, which was later spring boarded by the formation of the band Divine Rapture with his brother J.J. Hrubovcak (now in Hate Eternal). While creating artwork for his band, Hrubovcak also did pen and ink, airbrush, and oil paintings for other bands and fanzines.

Hrubovcak’s vocal and musical career also flourished over the years, featuring on many records and touring for the bands Divine Rapture, Azure Emote, I.C.E, Vile, Hypoxia, and the early ‘90s Tampa death metal legends, Monstrosity.

Hrubovcak has created art for Relapse Records, Century Media Records, Revolver Magazine, Headbangers Ball, The Party.San, Maryland Death Fests, Hate Eternal, Sinister, Grave, Mortician, Decrepit Birth, Cattle Decapitation, InHume, Pathology, Guttural Secrete, Avulsed, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Cephalotripsy, and many others. He also had a monthly feature called Nightmare Visions on MTV’s Headbangers Ball Blog (taking over for the discontinuation of Paul Booth’s weekly art posts).

Hrubovcak’s artwork even branched into illustrating B-movie DVD covers and being used as background set dressing for a Universal Pictures feature film and has been displayed in many art galleries and featured in collective art books worldwide.
