“Reptile Dysfunction” is the latest single from Chicago riff conjurors MOTHERLESS. The track comes by way of the band’s Do You Feel Safe? full-length, set for release on Friday, September 12th via Prosthetic Records.
Rooted deep within the city’s longstanding tradition of doom and riff-driven metal, MOTHERLESS is comprised of StavrosGiannopoulos and Alex Klein of The Atlas Moth, with Gary Naples and Anthony Cwan of Without Waves.
Together they manifest a raw, unfiltered sound that prioritizes weight and atmosphere over theatrics, combining elements of punk and hardcore with a bleak, driving intensity that reflects both personal darkness and industrial urban weight. There’s no gimmick here, just thick tones, sharp songwriting, and a commitment to keeping heavy music honest: “No fog, no light show, just riffs.”
Comments Giannopoulos on the band’s latest single, “‘Reptile Dysfunction’ was the last track we wrote for the record and is probably the most organic and natural song I’ve ever written. It came together so easily and the lyrics really sum up everything I felt this record was about. It’s a mission statement about feeling left behind, forgotten and returning to the music scene. The song title was actually thought up by my girlfriend Dee, who coincidentally stars in the video as well, which makes it even more special to me!”

Do You Feel Safe? features artwork by Rosario Scimeca and was produced by Sanford Parker with vocals produced by Stavros Giannopoulos, mixed by Sanford Parker, and mastered by Brad Boatright.

As they continue to carve out their place in Chicago’s storied metal landscape, MOTHERLESS stands as a reminder that in a city built on grit, the heaviest voices often rise from the underground. Fans of Intronaut, The Ocean, Kylesa, ISIS, High on Fire, and the like, pay heed.
Carbonized Records presents Dêmocide, the traumatic second LP from Portland, Oregon-based DISPOSSESSED, today unveiling its cover art, track listing, preorders, and lead single, “Exanimate”.
The DISPOSSESSED collective infuses elements of sludge, doom, and death metal into a commanding sound rooted in anger, despair, and political resistance. Formed in 2014, the band emerged from Portland’s metal scene with a mission to confront systems of oppression through uncompromising, feedback-driven music. Their sound combines slow-burning riffs, bleak atmospheres, and a raw, aggressive energy that draws influence from bands like Corrupted, Asunder, Winter, and Grief.
Lyrically and thematically, DISPOSSESSED engages directly with issues such as systemic violence, environmental destruction, and carceral injustice, grounding their work in anti-authoritarian ideals.
Back in 2019, DISPOSSESSED released their debut full-length, Exanimate; a searing critique of societal collapse. They returned in 2022 with the “Makhnovshchina” single, continuing to explore revolutionary themes through crushing, emotionally charged compositions.
DISPOSSESSED now delivers Dêmocide, containing five tracks of devastating, sludgy doom. Recorded by Mike Vera at VeraTone (Juliana Hatfield, Great Falls), mastered by James Plotkin at Plotkinworks (Earth, Sunn O))), Khanate, Amarok), and completed with cover art by Abomination Hammer, the track “If I Must Die” features synthesizers by B. Pierpont and an original poem by Dr. Refaat Alareer. Dêmocide reflects the band’s ongoing commitment to challenging silence and injustice through sound—direct, unrelenting and deeply resonant.
Dêmocide will be released October 3rd on LP, CD, MC, and digitally. Find preorders at the Carbonized Records webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Foundations of Burden (Redux 2025) re-envisioned cover features a painting by Benjamin Vierling
AVAILABLE DIGITALLY ON NOVEMBER 7; PHYSICALLY ON DECEMBER 5
A FULLY RECONSTRUCTED VERSION OF THEIR 2014 LANDMARK ALBUM
Aug. 22, 2025, Little Rock, Ark. – Pallbearer release Foundations of Burden (2025 Redux) this Fall, a meticulous sonic reconstruction of their transformative 2014 album. The newly remixed and remastered version arrives digitally on Nov. 7, with physical editions (2xLP and CD) available on Dec. 5. (pre-orders:
“During the writing and preparation for Foundations, everything was ephemeral and we were practically feral,” recalls bassist/vocalist Joseph D. Rowland. “We had no real practice space, we barely had a single working computer between the four of us. Our demos of the record consisted of something barely discernible from white noise. Nevertheless, we knew we were working towards building a set of songs we were deeply enthusiastic about.
Once in the thick of recording, the feeling went from dream to dreamlike very quickly, as we found ourselves in what felt like an endless churn of repetition. We slept at the studio on whatever soft surfaces we could find, waking each day to discover that some of the previous day’s work had been corrupted overnight. This resulted in some parts of the album being recorded many times over. The guitars in particular mutated into something Sisyphean.”
Rowland continues, “Since the time that we finally committed the original version of Foundations to print, we knew it would be a sonic space we would eventually revisit. Its form did not unfold according to the original version as the numerous file corruptions, delays, and exhausted studio budget compounded into a final feverish push to finish the mix. We were relieved to get those massive and difficult mixes turned into finished songs just in time, but not without a nagging thought; we had to sacrifice much of the nuance we had spent so much time crafting.”
More than a decade later, Pallbearer seized the opportunity to revisit the record from the ground up. Over the past year, the band meticulously reconstructed the album from the original sessions.
“In the time since then, we have played most of the songs from Foundations more times than we can count, and they remain some of our favorites,” Rowland continues. “The songs have grown with us. And while we hold a deep love and attachment to what we created in 2014, we also gained a fuller understanding of how we would want to re-present them if we had a chance. After years of discussion, listening and learning, we found ourselves in the position to fulfill that vision.”
Foundations of Burden (2025 Redux) features new mixes and mastering, plus new artwork featuring a painting by Benjamin Vierling. The six-song, 55-minute collection is produced by Pallbearer, mixed by Mario Quintero (Spotlights), and mastered by Adam Gonsalves.
Pre-orders (https://geni.us/PallbearerFOB2025Redux) are available now with the album available on multiple limited-edition vinyl variants: a band-exclusive metallic gold marble 2xLP (300 copies), a Profound Lore only iridescent blue marble 2xLP (500 copies), and standard black.
Pallbearer performs Foundations of Burden in full for the first time ever on Sept. 6, at Seattle’s Substation’s 10th Anniversary (tickets: https://bnds.us/z2ezd4).

Pallbearer is Brett Campbell (vocals/guitar), Devin Holt (guitar), Joseph D. Rowland (bass/vocals) and Mark Lierly (drums). The Little Rock, Arkansas-based band formed in 2008 and have since released four albums: Sorrow and Extinction (2012), Foundations of Burden (2014), Heartless (2017) and Forgotten Days (2020).
Pallbearer has received widespread praise with Rolling Stone dubbing their music “beautiful melancholia,” the New York Times saying, “Pallbearer takes the genre’s distorted guitars and dread and adds an ambitious element of optimism” and Decibel, who have twice afforded the band their cover slot, declaring the Pallbearer’s songs both “majestic” and “extraordinary.”
The most prominent and significant American death/funeral doom emissaries EVOKEN succeed their 2018 landmark Hypnagogia album with their stunning seventh full-length opus, Mendacium, set for release on October 17th on Profound Lore Records. Mendacium is a work that will reveal itself as one of the darkest and most oppressive EVOKEN albums among their unparalleled repertoire.
Where Hypnagogia would see the band capture and focus on a more melancholic, tangible, and even more of an accessible sonic design, Mendacium takes that acute shift back to the monumental dirge-like dread and woeful catacombic and disharmonious heaviness reminiscent of the band’s Quietus and Antithesis Of Light masterworks, all while still encapsulating the tectonic-shifting nature of their Caress Of The Void and Atra Mors releases and venturing more through classic gothic audial textures and even treading a little down experimental mire as well, reminiscing an aura seeping from such luminary artists as Dead Can Dance, Monumentum, and Disembowelment.
To signal this shift in sound harking back to this previous era, the band enlisted the services of producer Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal who worked with EVOKEN on their Antithesis Of Light and Quietus albums respectively. The resulting Mendacium captures a sepulchral heaviness saturated in ambience with even more of an emphasis on deathlike dread and anguish; an ambience reflecting the depths and catacombs of an ancient cathedral or monastery, ultimately defining Mendacium as EVOKEN’s most powerful sounding album to date.
Thematically, Mendacium bestows an intriguing concept and story. It tells the tale of a fourteenth century elder Benedictine monk with malady from illness preventing him from leaving his room within the monastery he dwells within. His faith and service to God can never be satiated. Slowly declining in health and sleepless from continuous pain, the monk encounters a hideous entity emerging through a tear in reality. The story questions, is the torment of this monk by each passing hour being inflicted by this entity or is it all within his own mind?
In advance of the release of Mendacium, today the band unveils the album’s first single, “Matins,” noting of the track, “‘Matins’ is a peek into a reality.”
Dallas (TX) – A storm is brewing. Having just signed to Willowtip Records last year, long-running, atmospheric Blackened Doom quartet, Krigsgrav, is now ready to release Stormcaller, their first album for the label and eighth full-length overall.
Krigsgrav released the following statement about Stormcaller:
“When we started writing the songs that would make up Stormcaller, our intention was to create the most complete Krigsgrav album that took something from every era of the band, while still pushing our sound forward. A culmination of the blackest hues, doomiest of dirges, and most soaring of lead guitars. We think we achieved that, but we also wrote the best album of our career thus far. We trust that when you hear it, you’ll agree.”
The album’s first single and opening track, “Huntress of the Fire Moon,” which features vocalist Jens Rydén (Thyrfing, Naglfar), is available now! Listen at at youtu.be/d1ynS-dbF9Y, as well as on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Haarlem (NL) – Thorndale, the Netherlands-based stoner/doom metal powerhouse, have released the official video for “Battles Fought in Vain,” the second single from forthcoming sophomore album, Spiritual Chains.

Profound Lore Records is preparing to drop Pain Effulgence, the third LP from INNUMERABLE FORMS – formed by members of Dream Unending, Sumerlands, Iron Lung, Power Trip, Mammoth Grinder, Genocide Pact, and more.
Pain Effulgence sees INNUMERABLE FORMS founding vocalist Justin DeTore and crew – bassist/guitarist Chris Ulsh, guitarist Jensen Ward, and drummer Connor Donegan, deliver their most powerful tectonic-shifting release yet. Pain Effulgence sees the band elevate the trajectory, initially brought forth with their Punishment In Flesh debut and 2022’s Philosophical Collapse, to a new plateau of megalithic death/doom artistry.
Old-school early ‘90s Finnish death metal coalescing with early ‘90s UK death/doom (citing early-Paradise Lost and Anathema) continues to be the blueprint upon which INNUMERABLE FORMS contrives their sound from, and with Pain Effulgence, it continues to become that much more towering and imposing.
DeTore reveals, “Pain Effulgencechannels raw violence into a deeper meditation. It’s bleak—full of resentment, repression, and spiritual exile, yet there’s a constant refusal to submit. Whether clawing through inner torment (‘Blotted Inside’) or rejecting moral weakness (‘Ressentiment’), the lyrics embody a brutal, unflinching defense of personal dignity.”

The opening song from Pain Effulgence, “Impulse,” arrives as the album’s lead single. With it, DeTore states, “‘Impulse’ represents what INNUMERABLE FORMS has been about since the beginning: angry, dark, death/doom.”

Paradise Lost formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1988 and are known for being the founders of the Gothic Death/Doom Metal genre; a style fully brought into existence with their genre-defining second album, the highly influential Gothic.
Having released 2 albums, including Gothic for the UK’s Peaceville Records and later helping to establish Peaceville as home to the finest trio of UK doom bands (alongside My Dying Bride and Anathema), Paradise Lost then signed with fellow UK label, Music For Nations which eventually led to the band breaking through to mainstream rock and metal audiences as their style evolved, becoming one of the UK’s most essential metal exports around the globe in the process.
Lost Paradise was the band’s debut album, released in 1990 and one of the early highlights in the formative years of Peaceville. Featuring more death metal influences, Paradise Lost created a dark and atmospheric style of death metal as opposed to one based on speed, with the sombre guitar leads of Gregor Mackintosh permeating through the compositions.
Lost Paradise was recorded at the famous Academy Studios (My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle of Filth) in Yorkshire, England, and stands as an undeniable classic of UK death/doom metal.

Chilean death-doom cult DEVS MORTVORVM have unveiled the second taste of their upcoming EP with the brand new single “Orgy in the Graveyard”, now streaming exclusively via a premiere at Mystification Zine. Drenched in decay and driven by the band’s signature blend of cavernous doom and old-school death metal, this track sets the tone for what promises to be a truly morbid release.
From its lumbering riffs to its sepulchral growls, “Orgy in the Graveyard” drags listeners deep into the crypt, offering a glimpse of the rotting majesty that awaits on June 6, 2025, when the full EP drops via Apocalyptic Productions.
Formed in 2015 by David Briones (guitar) and Claudio Carrasco (vocals), DEVS MORTVORVM emerged with a clear mission: to play Graveyard Doom Death, inspired by legendary acts such as Goatlord, Derketa, early Cathedral and Autopsy. The band is now completed by Andrés Henríquez on drums and Felipe Vuletich on bass, bringing even more weight and rot to their already imposing sound.
This upcoming EP features five tracks, three original compositions, a crushing cover of “Acid Orgy” by U.S. cult legends Goatlord, and a raw live track that captures the band’s visceral stage presence. Every aspect of this release, the lyrics, artwork, and music is a unified expression of DEVS MORTVORVM’s devotion to the morbid spirit of doom-death and necrolatry.
Musically, the EP offers an enticing blend of shadow-drenched, vicious death-doom, where sludgy riffs clash and intertwine with serpentine melodies, creating a dynamic tension that keeps each track unpredictable and alive. It’s a masterclass in sonic decay, where every note drips with the dampness of the tomb.

Italy’s WASTE CULT have unleashed their new single “The Warmest Shelter”, the third preview from their upcoming debut album Blame, out June 6th, 2025 via Aesthetic Death. Marking a shift in tone from the darker, more introspective cuts previously released, this new track channels a warmer, groovier energy, without sacrificing the band’s signature weight and grit.
Built around hypnotic riffs and a swaggering rhythmic pulse, “The Warmest Shelter” brings a dynamic sense of movement to the album’s overarching atmosphere of tension and collapse.
Emerging from Bologna’s underground scene in 2021, WASTE CULT continue to refine their blend of doom, stoner and post-metal with each release. “The Warmest Shelter” adds yet another layer to the rich and punishing soundscape of their forthcoming full-length.
Track-list:
1 – Ad Astra 2 – Delirium Of Manners 3 – Blame 4 – Blended As One 5 – Kerberos 6 – Pictures 7 – The Warmest Shelter 8 – Maze
All the members have experience with other punk/thrash metal projects, including Rake-Off, Hyle, Siege Stompers and Call The Cops.
The aim for WASTE CULT has been to create different sounds and atmospheres to those other projects, exploring a slower doomier approach to their sound. In mid 2022 they self-released an eponymous 4-track EP on tape, and on the back of that started playing shows across Italy.
The first full length, Blame, is the characterisation of all their different influences, with a more defined identity – taking inspiration from the doom classics to the more modern post-metal sounds. This reality took shape after years experimenting in the practice room, with Blame bearing witness to a more introspective and personal approach within both the music and lyrics.
Line-up:
Frank – Guitar and vocals Pilvia – Guitar Noise – Bass Claudio – Drums and backing vocals

Polish funeral death doom entity POSTMORTAL will unveil its debut album Profundis Omnis on May 9th 2025, via Aesthetic Death.
Meticulously crafted with an unwavering passion for the genre, this release sees the band channel the bleak, monolithic essence of funeral doom’s greats. With a deep understanding of the style’s fundamental elements, POSTMORTAL shape their sound into a crushing and immersive experience, delivering an interpretation that is both hauntingly atmospheric and devastatingly heavy.
Track-list:
1. Fallen 2. Darkest Desire 3. Decay of Paradise 4. Prophecy of the Endless 5. Queen of Woe 6. The Masterpiece of the Thing That Once Was but Will Never Be
The idea to create a funeral doom band was born in 2015 during the Czech metal music festival Brutal Assault, where most original members of the band were present: Michał (guitar), Karol (guitar), Sludge (bass) and Kamila (drums). In those days POSTMORTAL was officially created, joined soon by Dawid (vocals), and Sludge later replaced by Paweł.
Rehearsals and writing of the first songs began and by late 2017 and early 2018, the band were able to do two gigs in their hometown of Krakow, the only gigs to date. In April 2018, Karol was replaced by Kamil and the band recorded the EP Soil. Shortly after these recordings, the drummer left the band. Despite a lenghty search, it was not possible to find her successor and as a result the band went into hiatus.
Line-up: Michał Skupień – music Dawid Dunikowski – vocals, lyrics
In 2024 two original members, Dawid and Michał decided to reactivate POSTMORTAL as a two-person project with ideas and focus on creating a debut studio album. In the same year, Profundis Omnis was recorded, adapting tracks that were mostly written during the band’s early period.
Monolithic, bleak and primal, POSTMORTAL embraces the atmosphere of funeral doom overlords such as Thergothon, Tyranny, The Funeral Orchestra, Catacombs, Evoken.
Helsinki-based doom metal band Denigrate released their fourth full length album titled To the Goddess Unknown on November 29th 2024. In the beginning of March 2025 their founding member, guitarist and main composer of Denigrate Seppo Nummela passed away suddenly. Their new music video was filmed earlier and now it’s finished and released to honor the memory of Seppo.
Denigrate’s Singer Galzi tells about the Song and the music video:
“In The Light was one of the first compositions for the album “To The Goddess Unknown” -the last individual of the album release as a music video. Also the song was the only one from the album that kept its’ work name from the beginning until completion. We wanted to make this a proper art-and-headbanging-video to underline the sheer joy of doing what we do. Huge thanks goes to Markus Saarela for capturing the moments.
Though the song tells about taking and giving nothing in return, there dwells a glimpse of hope for a change at the end. This we will dedicate to the memory of our key-member, the founder of Denigrate, Seppo Nummela. We’ll keep carrying the torch, don’t you worry brother!”

Chicago, Illinois-based doom metal outfit ÇÖKÜŞ presents a new video for “Never Gone,” found on their debut record, An Hour Of Lies.
Influenced by the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Trouble, Dio, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Kyuss, ÇÖKÜŞ – pronounced cho-koosh, which is Turkish for “decline” or “collapse” – was formed by several members of Earthen Grave upon its demise, carrying that band’s sound forward with a refocused energy. Following nearly a decade of creating songs remotely, the band put everything into the creation of An Hour Of Lies, which saw release in 2024 through Qumran Records.
An Hour Of Lies was recorded in three different states, the drums and vocals recorded by John E. Bohmher, Jr. at Berwyn Recording, the bass recorded by Patrick Green, and the guitars recorded by Jason Muxlow. The tracks were mixed by Chris Wozniak and mastered by Chris Hanzsek (Melvins, Soundgarden, Helms Alee), and the cover art/visuals were handled by Tom Denney (Soilent Green, Weedeater, Rwake).
ÇÖKÜŞ’ new video for “Never Gone” comes alongside the announcement of a lineup shift, which sees new bassist Paul DiPego (Salt Of The Earth, Maiden ’81) and new lead guitarist Mick Stone (Scare Machine, Sunset Empire) joining drummer Chris Wozniak (Vanishment, Earthen Grave, Lair Of The Minotaur), guitarist Steve Ligeza (Torg, Makahiya), and vocalist Mark Weiner (Earthen Grave).
The band writes, “Losing someone special to you, that you never knew in person, could make you lose yourself.”

The band confirmed a hometown show in Chicago on March 22nd, which will be livestreamed on the Reggies YouTube channel. They’ve also just announced a short eastward run late this Spring leading with a livestream from Stone Studios in Chicago June 18th – to be broadcast on the band’s YouTube channel with a limited live audience – followed by a set at Maryland Doom Fest 2025 on June 20th and a show in Pittsburgh June 21st. Additional performances are expected to be announced for later in the year as well.
ÇÖKÜŞ Live:
3/22/2025 Reggies Music Joint – Chicago, IL w/ Pale Horseman, Deepspacepilots
6/18/2025 Livestream from Stone Studios – Chicago, IL
Set for release on March 28th, 2025, via Aesthetic Death, the fourth album by US doom noise entity THE SLUMBERING reaches an inevitable convergence, where the sinister, drone and hypnotic sound has merged with doomsday scenarios and an endtime conclusion.
The only glimmer of hope within their music is found in the prospect that humankind is quickly reaching its (un)natural end; that it can exact no further harm. There is an ultimate calm in the knowledge any clock will tick no more and that all we will see is what the next realm brings forth.
The track “Chapel Of The Damned” is now streaming at THIS LOCATION.
