Seattle, Washington Doom band SAMOTHRACE are pleased to announce that they will be heading across the pond for a spring tour of the United Kingdom! The tour will consist of 14 dates between 27th of April to 11th of May, and includes a date at the highly regarded Desertfest London.

Guitarist Brian Spinks had the following to say about the upcoming dates:

“We (Samothrace) are very pleased to announce we will be returning to the UK for a tour this upcoming Spring. In addition to our Saturday appearance at Desertfest London 2016, we will be traversing across England and Scotland with some additional shows afterwards possible on Western European soil. More info on them in the coming weeks. The few shows we played thru England in 2013 went by in a flash, far too quickly for our speed of life. We are really looking forward to spending more time touring the UK and possibly seeing more sights than just the back of our eyelids, the alley behind the venues and the truck stops for gas….”

Two of Europe’s most promising next-gen Funeral Doom/Death Metal bands, EYE OF SOLITUDE and FAAL have joined forces for a split EP of epic proportions.

The untitled EP, which features a previously unreleased track from each band that will forever remain exclusive to this split, will be offered as a three-panel deluxe DigiSleeve CD and digital download. The CD version is strictly limited to 500 collectors-edition copies that includes a series of photos from French photographer Animalerrant.

EYE OF SOLITUDE‘s contribution, the aptly titled funeral march Obsequies, is the stylistic missing link between their future classic Canto III album (which was included on numerous ‘Best of 2013’ lists) and last year’s single-track, 50-minute monster Dear Insanity. This is Funeral Doom/Death at its finest!

FAAL‘s Shattered Hope sees the Netherlands-based unit blends elements of old-school Doom with contemporary Gothic/Dark metal for monstrous results.

Forged in 2001 by Mäkelä and Lindqvist, TYRANNY was conceived under the strain of a Stranger Will to channel the Ageless resonations of Earth and Oceans and sonorous visions and fevered dreams by the means of epic, Funereal Soundscapes. In 2004 the band unsheathed their debut, Bleak Vistae, which shook the foundation of a small, reclusive yet inexorably devoted funeral doom scene.

Crowned an, “epic masterpiece,” and commended for its, “mystical atmosphere,” and, “crushing wall of sound,” by Ultimate Guitar, 2005’s Tides Of Awakening reaped the attention of critics globally. Metal Bite championed a record that was, “uncompromising and extreme,” while Metal Reviews, in an “Album Of the Month” review likened it to, “a partner piece instructing in the discipline of appreciating one’s own suffering.”

TYRANNY has always operated in the shadows, worked on intuition and done things only when there was a will and the time seemed right for it. Seattle doom merchants, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH, will bring their lumbering odes to stages throughout North America next month supporting Neurosis. Slated to embark on July 31st in Lawrence, Kansas, the trek will coil its way through sixteen cities, including one headlining performance, coming to a close on August 16th in Houston, Texas. OMMADON – UK Drone/Doom Duo To Undrape “Empathy For The Wicked” Via Golden Mantra This July

Following the crushing doom of their critically adored, 2014 double LP, V, which earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014, UK drone/doom duo, OMMADON, continues their perpetual quest to achieve sonic annihilation of the self through unadulterated heaviness with Empathy For The Wicked. Boasting just one earth-rupturing track broken into two parts, Empathy For The Wicked was recorded live, mixed by OMMADON and mastered by recording legend, Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), who gave it the final crushing touches it deserves.

Where OMMADON‘s previous scores were all recorded in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by forest, Empathy For The Wicked marks their first release to be recorded on an industrial estate in urban Northumberland surrounded by the dregs of humanity. DEMON LUNG – Nevada Doom Bringers Unleash “Mark Of Jubilee” Via Decibel Magazine; “A Dracula” To See Release Next Month

Las Vegas-based doom bringers, DEMON LUNG, will unleash the forlorn fruits of their A Dracula full-length next month via Candlelight Records. Captured by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), the record boasts eight dark, devious hymns centered loosely on Juan López Moctezuma’s 1977 horror film, Alucardain which two teenage orphan girls living in a Catholic convent unleash a demonic force and ultimately become possessed by Satan.

“Alucarda is a more relatable story for me than our last album’s [The Hundredth Name] subject matter,” vocalist Shanda Fredrick issues, “which made writing a lot more fun this time around. The heroine in this story is the daughter of Satan, who happens to fall in love with the purest of souls in the convent she resides. She coaxed this soul over to the dark, with only intentions of love but in doing so she dooms her to death by the hands of the nuns. The anger consumes her and she uses her dark powers to resurrect her love and together they kill the convent and then the world.”

As a precursor to its official unveiling, today Decibel Magazine offers up sixth movement, “Mark Of Jubilee” for public consumption at THIS LOCATION.

A Dracula comes nearly two years to the date from the successful release of the band’s critically lauded, 2013-released The Hundredth Name. Media applauded the band, especially Fredrick with Decibel Magazine gushing, “She emerges like a high empress, adding real soul to the quintet’s lurch.” Ghost Cult called the debut, “a modern doom masterpiece,” Las Vegas Weekly concurred noting, “Everything about DEMON LUNG‘s debut screams epic,” while New Noise Magazine gushed, “This record is mammoth. KING HEAVY was formed in 2009 by ex-Procession founder Daniel Perez Saa and Luce Vee, known for being the vocalist of Dutch Doom Metal act Hooded Priest. Shortly thereafter guitarist Matias Aguirre and drummer Miguel Canessa were added to the line up and in 2014 the band self-released an EP entitled Horror Absoluto, which was later repressed on split-vinyl by French label Emanes Records.

WAR IRON “Precession Of The Equinoxes” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

WAR IRON returns with another Sludge and Doom Metal offering: Precession Of The Equinoxes. Their style can even fall into a drone-like beat and it still crunches and rumbles along with a dynamite evil attitude, feel and sound. Due to the epic length of all 4 songs, this is an album I had to listen to many times, before even considering how much I like it or what to say about it. The total running time for this rugged album is: 35:62.

To me, the vocals from Baggy can very easily be interpreted as Black Metal. I can honestly say that Baggy comes across with a striking conviction towards the lyrical content of each song. Baggy also has demonic vocals, without question. I absolutely love the riffs and every guitar part played from Ross. 100% Doom and Gloom floods my ears from this album and when the dark chants kick in on Summon Demon Scream The Abyss, the eeriness all becomes so much more punctuated.

While I have listened to this War Iron album, I’ve repeatedly have had visions of being lost inside an endless, dark and cold cave, with stalagmites and stalactites filling the creepy atmosphere around me; thus I am overcome with some sort of nightmarish joy. In other words, this is Metal that honestly carries me away mentally to another world. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Fresh off their Rumors 7” release last October, Seattle doomgazers He Whose Ox Is Gored will embark on a national tour this April, which will include Midwest and East Coast stops for the first time. The tour kicks off in their native Seattle on April 5th with Witchripper and A God or Another at Narwhal.

The band’s full length debut ‘The Camel, The Lion, The Child’ is slated for release this fall on Bleeding Light Records, as well as more new material that will also surface in 2015. GHOULGOTHA – The Deathmass Cloak has been made available, on January 13th, via the Dark Descent website. This group was formed and is based in San Diego, California. GHOULGOTHA do strike the Death Metal hammer down, more than likely splitting speakers and skulls, across the lands, from their debut album. My Metal God almighty, is this album molasses heavy!

Overall, The Deathmass Cloak plays out as a Blackened Death Metal collides with calamitous Doom Metal listen. Heavy as King Kong’s monster-sized, congealed shit and fused with down tempo Death Metal are best to describe this album’s songs. GHOULGOTHA have won me over due their honing in on their own sound and by not following the leader within the Death Metal universe. There are hoards of riffs, that summons the same Metal Gods that have looked down upon Black Sabbath with appreciation and trust me, these guitar parts are CHUNKY.

I have found The Deathmass Cloak to be a rather diverse listen in Death Metal, where both Old Schoolers and newbies of the Modern era should both walk away feeling some deathly Metal fulfillment from GHOULGOTHA’s creativity. The all-encompassing Death Metal vibe on this album is just an overall treat for my senses; GHOULGOTHA has a downbeat aura to their sound that just locks me in, man.

The sonic surprises of both the album’s intro of Solar Awakening and closer, Levitate Within The Curse, are stuff of genius for a Death Metal band; very impressive musical ideas were obviously fulfilled there. I’ll leave that last thought as something you’ll have to hear for yourself, it’s too good to give away. Metal be thy name. – Stone

DOOM PIONEERS’ FIRST ALBUM IN 10 YEARS OUT APRIL 14th

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 20, 2015 – Acid King have unveiled the cover art for their forthcoming album, Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere (available April 14).

The artwork for Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere was done by famed tattoo artist, Tim Lehi. Lehi has done cover art and posters for High on Fire, Earthless and Witch.

Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere was recorded at both Sharkbite and Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco, mixed at Different Fur Studios and produced by Acid King and Billy Anderson. The digital release will be released independently via Acid King while physical copies, both CD and vinyl, will be available via Svart Records.

“We had several songs in the works over the years that we spent most of our time touring Europe but in between working our day jobs, we didn’t put the effort into recording,” explained singer/guitar player Lori S. “I really wanted to accelerate the process and get new music out. It’s time. This music that we’ve been playing for so long, that was initially obscure and underground, seemed to grow over these past 10 years and the timing was right to release this now!”

Acid King bubbled up from San Francisco in 1993 through a fog of revved up riffs, thunderous drums, and a hypnotic vocal howl. They unleashed three EPs and three full-length albums, starting with Zoroaster in 1995, the 1999 full-length Busse Woods, and their most recent release, Acid King III, coming in 2005. Their seismic chemistry transfixed audiences everywhere from high-profile festivals such as Hellfest and Roadburn to now iconic shows alongside peers such as Sleep and Mystick Krewe of Clearlight.

The band recently confirmed their participation in Desertfest, April 24 to 26 in the UK. North American tour dates will be announced soon.

Libertine Cyst To Release On January 20, 2015

LAMENTATIONS OF THE ASHEN, the blackened Doom Metal project of Bon Vincent Fry, will release their long-awaited album Libertine Cyst on January 20 2015.

Consisting of four epic tracks, Libertine Cyst is the follow-up to 2011’s EKIMMV. In regards to the album, Bon has released the following statement:

“Finally, after 3 years, I am pleased to present my 3rd full-length album, ‘Libertine Cyst’ to the world. This album was the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do musically. I was dealt an endless amount of obstacles (some self-created) which constantly resulted in delaying my progress. I feel that this record stands as a testament that the path of maximum resistance produces a more thoroughly honed work of art. I think the material contained here marks a new height in my song writing and atmosphere for this project. It’s hard to express how pleased and relieved I am to finally have this behind me and shift my gaze even further into the blackness beyond the stars. LIVE BURIAL – The self-titled EP from Live Burial has made me proclaim it as: over 22 minutes of savage and doom ridden Death Metal, that can easily rip and tear your Metal soul apart. This is some of the most enjoyable Metal I’ve listened to in 2014; Live Burial is Death Metal with hefty doom influence that’s 100% underground and the real deal. Originating from Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, this is a Death Metal band I’m more than elated to welcome across the Atlantic.

Jamie Brown offers up some disgustingly violent vocals and growls and the entire band plays some solid Death Metal, across 4 scathing songs, to my ears. Excellent! Live Burial prove they can play at eye-popping breakneck speed or slow it down to an evil Doom death march for the gathering of innocent mortal’s souls. The guitars without a doubt have some Tony Iommi influence snuck in there, with the rhythm section playing at a constant resounding capacity. Live Burial is an EP I won’t be forgetting about for quite some time, both nefarious and old school. Metal be thy name. – Stone

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2014 – Electric Wizard, the UK-based Doom outfit led by the provocative Jus Oborn, have the outfit’s highest chart debut to date, with their Spinefarm Records’ debut, Time to Die, entering Billboard’s Top 200 at 62.

The nine-song release, featuring singles “I am Nothing” and “SadioWitch,” is also one of the band’s most critically acclaimed to date with Mojo Magazine declaring the album “the most uncompromising album of the year” and Pitchfork saying the album “deserves every accolade thrown its way” and going on to say “they’ve surpassed expectations and proved that they’re still as vital as they ever were.”

Produced by Oborn, the album was recorded at Toe Rag Studios in East London, with analog gear used exclusively throughout, with finishing touches done at Skyhammer Studio in “deepest, darkest” Cheshire by Chris Fielding.

Doom Metal legends Electric Wizard visit Fopp to sign copies of their eighth studio album ‘Time to Die’. Limited edition ‘SadioWitch’ 7-inch singles will be available in store.

Electric Wizard release the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2010’s ‘Black Masses’. ‘Time to Die’ saw the temporary return of original drummer Mark Greening, along with the addition of new bassist, Clayton Burgess. Latest single ‘SadioWitch’ is accompanied by the band’s first music video, created by the mysterious and alluring Shazzula Vultura.

The short film’s content is concisely summarised by frontman Jus Oborn, who describes it as ‘clandestinely filmed scenes of Luciferian depravity.’ The Guardian refer to the album’s tracks as ‘the mutant children of Black Sabbath’s revered blueprint’, while Pitchfork suggest that the track ‘Funeral of Your Mind’ is ‘the garage-rock-tinged psychedelic rocker… that Birmingham’s finest could’ve written if they had stuck with the drugs and off the telly’.

Formed in Wimborne, Dorset, the band bonded over a mutual fascination with Black Sabbath, the occult, horror movies, vintage recording equipment and the 1970s. For over 20 years, Electric Wizard have recorded a series of landmark Metal albums, which amalgamate elements of Sludge, Stoner Metal, Black Metal and Doom. The band have recently performed a series of festival dates across Europe, including ‘Sonisphere’ UK, Portugal’s ‘Reverence Festival Valada’, ‘Hellfest’ in France and ‘Roskilde’ in Denmark.

The Electric Wizard creative core of Jus Oborn & Liz Buckingham will visit Fopp ahead of their gig at The Ritz, Manchester.
